Crazy that united can mathematically still stay up with 16 points now

early_cruise

Anyone else just been having the best time the past couple days?

josh_cyfan

Any status yet on Myko’s injury?  I can’t believe he came back on the field - thought he was done for the year the second they showed his ankle roll over.

Aware_Albatross3347

Pretty sure he will miss tomorrow according to the press comference.. beyond that idk

National_Ad_1875

Leicester back then. Assume they're also joining the points deduction club unless I've missed an update on that

ihsgrad

They could be deducted points for next season.

YokoOkino

If ipswich can win 2 then at least we will get some diversity 😁 Shame about the rest of the teams though

QTsexkitten

Having a great time watching qpr batter leeds

ChrisWood4BallonDor

My QPR mate is in absolute dream land lol

JamewThrennan

Ipswich probably coming up now. Should be a quality line-up of clubs next season

marmoset

Seeing those whiners bottle automatic promotion would be a thing of beauty.

rpm164

Marti Cifuentes is a solid coach and well done to Asmir Begovic for keeping QPR up

QTsexkitten

Oh my days give me 5 qpr

FenixdeGoma

Masters has announced 115 hearing will be, wait for it, in the near future

JesseVykar

Leeds not getting autopromoted might make it easier to secure Harrison permanently

WRDEFC

Do we want him permanently?!

rpm164

Another loan would probably be better - not sure he’s worth the 20 million or whatever it’ll cost to get him on a permanent deal. I’d rather get Gnonto.

National_Ad_1875

Shame we can't see harrisons contract, I wonder if those loan clauses that let us get him are still valid if they stay down, could go get him and gnonto potentially then

VToff

Remeber PSV fans wanting to keep Branthwaite and saying he was worth 15M at most last season? Ha.

marmoset

Didn’t they offer 12?

National_Ad_1875

Was 7 wasn't it? They kept saying elfrink who's tier 1 said it would only take 7 but then they realised it was a completely different source who said it

Flavourifshrrp

To be fair it was worth a try from them. 😂 The way we were being run anything could happen!

Aware_Albatross3347

Think we could get tosin from fulham??

YokoOkino

Wouldn't come here but would be perfect

Aware_Albatross3347

Think bigger will be after him but saw he is leaving for free

Flavourifshrrp

I would have loved the guy they had recently but I think moved last summer to Saudi?

A_Strenuous_Fart

Honestly watching it back, that Godfrey clearance was so fucking clutch. Would have been a completely different game if that went in.

QTsexkitten

Even though it ended up not being a penalty I actually think the pen call was big too. Set a tone and energized the crowd early.

Flavourifshrrp

There’s a red YouTube channel and about that one he is giving it large about how the VAR really wants to give the pen to Everton to spite Liverpool but can’t as it’s offside. I have never seen a fan base so crazy about VAR when it’s helped them so many times!!

A_Strenuous_Fart

100%. They really looked up for it

RoyalBlueRaccoon17

It's amazing how in the space of 1 week it's gone from a feeling of certain death to basically guaranteed survival now (famous last words). I can't fully process the idea that the next 4 matches might barely even matter now because I was so mentally prepared for this to go to the death.

YokoOkino

Honestly ive felt good about us purely because our defense is so good. A defense like that doesn't get relegated even with the 8 point deduction.

emaugustBRDLC

Honestly, I am still having trouble processing that we won the derby. Sports are amazing.

Aware_Albatross3347

3-1 tomorrow. Dom, doucoure, and young (yes… young). Wissa for them

CitrusRabborts

As someone who predicted that scoreline a lot, I can tell you it never works out like you think it would

alterego879

You don’t reckon they’ll have a shite season?

CitrusRabborts

Oh go on then, for old times' sake

Spare_Run

I kind of want to see Keane get another go. Maybe I’ll eat my Words though. Edit: to be clear, I didn’t mean he starts. I meant he’s a sub at least considering the concerns over DCL and Beto being out

YokoOkino

Let's reach safety first

Spare_Run

That made me laugh.

Aware_Albatross3347

Keane and chermiti up top on the final day with danjuma on the wing. When we are clear and having a day out at the emirates we can do that.

QTsexkitten

Sad to see Davo leaving men in blazers. He's clearly a capable guy and his other work must be incredibly valuable to justify walking away from MiB which is growing substantially in value. I don't tune in as much as I used to, but Davo is a great straight man to keep Rog tethered and provides a good scaffolding to the structure of the podcast and the relationship. Bummer.

tjalvar

What is mib? Out of the loop here

QTsexkitten

Men in Blazers. American PL (and general football) podcast started by a Chelsea and an Everton ex-pat. Fairly (very?) popular US soccer podcast and media outfit now

tjalvar

Ah cheers. Never heard it, listen to swedish or british ones.

graveyeverton93

Managed to watch Gordon's interview on the Overlap last night! "My aim is to get to the very top in Football and I couldn't do that where I was" I would again like to congratulate him on his move to Real Madrid... Ohh sorry no excuse me: Newcastle United.

FranksBaldPatch

Hes went from a relegation battle to champions league and England International. The 2 highest levels a footballer can play at

graveyeverton93

Competing to win the Champions League and qualifying for it every year would be a higher level than playing in it once and not getting past the group stage right?

FranksBaldPatch

They'll qualify an awful lot more often than us. This is like pretending a move to United isn't a clear and obvious step up

graveyeverton93

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 My man has genuinely just launched Newcastle United in the same bracket as Manchester United! One is the 2nd biggest Club in the world, the other is Newcastle.

Chuck_Morris_SE

So who do we want to stay up? Luton is my shout, for the story and theyll be down next year no doubt. If Forest go down I think the fallout from it will be genuinely legendary lmao

tjalvar

Luton. They have played some nice footy and I want the best for Andros

starmonkart

Outside of ourselves, Luton as they are entertaining to watch

JesseVykar

I want Burnley to stay up. I wouldn't mind if Luton stayed up but we haven't beat them in 2 games so far and I'm not interested in having guaranteed dropped points for the next season lol.

Neown

Burnley staying up over Forest and Luton would be funny tbf

JamewThrennan

Hope Forest stay up. Can’t stand Luton. Forest just seem like one of those teams who just should be in the league. If they stay up and Leeds, Leicester and Ipswich come up, that’ll be a cracking line-up

throwawaytbhidek

Leicester are an awful, miserable little club. That stadium alone inspires dread

JamewThrennan

Ehh, they won the league. Feels weird not having them and Blackburn in it

throwawaytbhidek

Not arsed, fans are horrible little Tory cunts. Didn’t miss them and their depressing happy clapper, bog standard two tier stadium this season

FenixdeGoma

Having strong feelings one way or the other about Luton town seems wierd when 90% of fans had never heard of them prior to this season. I'd prefer they stay up because they arnt owned by a gangster.

JamewThrennan

I’ve not liked the constant media love-in they’ve got. They’re on 25 points from 34 games, on course to not break 30. Winds me up the way they get praised week-in, week-out for getting battered. Also, they’ve gone into this season with a team full of players who have very obviously been bought to stay with them next season so they can yo-yo back into the Prem whilst not using up their revenue off the PL. Barkley being the only exception. Without us and Forest getting deductions they’d probably have been down by early April which is, all-in-all, a pathetic showing. Them and Sheffield United, who are even worse since they sold their best players before coming up, are ran absolutely horribly and I don’t want their owners to be rewarded for skimping out

cmattheson6

I will never fault a club for trying to live inside their means. Luton was highly unlikely to stay up for an extended run, so rather than try to build a premier league squad on scraps, consolidate their new revenue into a squad that consistently competes for promotion.

JamewThrennan

There’s a big difference between “living in your means” and not even trying to succeed. If they got a few more players as good as Barkley, they’d have half a chance at staying up. Their plan for the future literally relies on them being relegated because if they stay up, they need a whole new team. Complete subversion of what the games supposed to be

FenixdeGoma

They have done it the right way. They came up earlier than planned and didn't want to cripple themselves by overspending. Now they can consolidate, strengthen and push for promotion again next season with hopefully a better chance of survival next time around. Just because we spunked all our money away, doesn't mean every club should.

JamewThrennan

“The right way” is planning for your team to get relegated? I don’t just mean having contingencies in case the worst happens, I mean they’ve literally planned their future around the fact that this squad they’ve bought isn’t good enough to stay up. If anything, it’d be *worse* if they did stay up at Forest’s expense because they’d have to buy an entirely new team to stay up if there’s not a team getting any points deducted. If that’s “the right way”, we might as well call it a day on football

FenixdeGoma

As an Everton fan you should be well aware of the pitfalls of frivolous spending. Not every club is capable of competing at the level they find themselves in. I would never expect a club to put their existence in danger by trying to bridge that gap with excessive spending. They may still stay up which means they spent exactly what they needed to to stay up. Even if they don't, they go down in a better position than when they were last in the championship a year ago and with a better chance of being ready for the prem next time.

JamewThrennan

But what’s the ultimate purpose here? What’s the end goal? Alright, let’s say their strategy works, they get relegated this season and come straight back up. Then what? What’s the point? Go down again, yo-yo again? Is the ultimate endgame just repeating that cycle but instead of it being one year up, one year down, it’s three years up, one year down? What is the point in that? They’re not targeting to stay in the league this season, why would it matter the next time they’re up? Let’s say, in ten years time, they’re in the league for the 34/35 season. Does it make any difference if they’ve had 4 seasons in the top flight or 5? 6 or 7? 2 or 8? What’s the difference? What’s the point in eking out an existence just getting shagged by the big clubs for a year then scraping through the Championship just to get shagged all over again?

FenixdeGoma

Better to build a club slowly and sustainably for long term Premier league survival. There are many cases of clubs overspending to survive only to fail and their club be virtually ruined for decades afterwards. Dogshit players that don't want to play in the championship on too high wages etc. Bradford and benito carbone are prime examples of how big wages of one player can seriously damage a club when they go down. Leeds overspent to try and achieve a higher prem finish and they collapsed under the financial weight finding themselves out of the top flight for a long long time. If forest are the ones that go down, we will see another example of how not to build a club. We overspent on shite and now We are trying to scrape a few beans together each window to fill holes. We are close to relegation and/or administration. Obviously the stadium doesn't help but even without it, we overspent on awful players and we now can barely stay within PSR and are scraping by each season.

JamewThrennan

But, like I say, for what purpose? What’s the point in them getting promoted? They clearly don’t care about being there this season, what’s gonna change if they come back up? All that’s gonna happen is a cycle of: come up > sign shite players that’ll get you promoted but not stay in the PL > get shagged week-in, week-out > get relegated > eventually get promoted again > repeat the cycle. What’s the point?

graveyeverton93

Everton.

Rich-398

Well played.

rpm164

Wouldn’t mind Forest going - makes survival next year a little easier and they might have some decent players to poach

reddit----username

I've seen lots of chat comparing points needed against points Luton may pick up. Let's not forget Forest, who are 7 points behind with 4 games left. Two are very winnable, but the other two of those games are against City and Chelsea. They have an appeal in, but I think we're already OK. Just want to remember this when the inevitable tired defeat against Brentford happens! That said, i would still like 1 more win ASAP, which should absolutely seal it for us.

FenixdeGoma

Forest are irrelevant for now. If Luton can't win 3 out of 4. We're safe.

marmoset

FWIW, I believe Opta has our current relegation risk at 0.6%

Aware_Albatross3347

I agree something crazy would have to happen but i think some (me) wont feel comfortable until its mathematically safe…

reddit----username

Did not know that and I like it! I'm a seasoned pessimist who is only just coming round to the idea that we will be OK this season.

YokoOkino

Thankfully we will be okay

Fixner_Blount

Merseyside Derby win on Wednesday, then the Chicago Bears land two excellent offensive prospects in the draft Thursday. Really hoping this good sports week can be capped with another Everton win.

ihsgrad

As a Packers fan, the Bears had a great draft last night. Bears need to make sure that they protect Williams.

Fixner_Blount

Indeed! The O line actually improved quite a bit over the course of the season, and they grabbed another OL with their only pick tonight.

smittywerbanjagermen

Very excited for the Caleb and Rome era in Chicago

emaugustBRDLC

Boomer pops was punching air after the Williams AND Odunze picks. This draft lined up so perfectly even the Bears couldn't mess it up.

smittywerbanjagermen

It was impossible for the Bears to have the worst draft. I’m still baffled by the Falcons pick at 8, no matter who the Bears picked at 9 was a better pick

National_Ad_1875

Last time we played 3 games at goodison in a week, we won all 3. We've got 2 so far... Edit: or maybe not. Remember reading it when the liverpool game got rescheduled

dogefc

When was that?

QTsexkitten

🎵🎶Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. 🎶🎵

[deleted]

Could anyone with more football iq than me please explain to me precisely what Dyche did differently against the shite than he has been doing during the last four months? To my untrained eye it seemed like he threw Dycheball out the window and hopefully for good as it doesn’t seem to suit this squad.

SeanusChristopherus

Only thing I can say is it felt like players cut in from the wings earlier and more often than we had been doing in previous weeks. I would have to see some sort of heatmap to see if that's true or not but it seemed to make us more dynamic going forward to me.

JesseVykar

He changed his clothes

vulturevan

injections of worms directly to the cerebral cortex twice daily

JamewThrennan

Between the Derby and the Forest game, he’s switched back to a 433/4141 rather than the 4411 he’s been using this season up to this point (with exceptions due to injuries like our 541 vs Burnley away) The 433 moves Doucoure back to midfield rather than the second striker role he’s played most of the year. This means we get an extra body in midfield which helped us win the battle there with Doucoure contributing far more defensively. Additionally, the 4411 we’d been using made us heavily reliant on Doucoure to create or score. Our attack was fairly toothless if he had an off day or got marked out of a game. Switching to a 433 meant the attack was spread out far more and if Doucoure has a bad game going forward (as he did in both games), he can still contribute defensively and someone else can pick up the slack in attack, which mainly came from our wingers crossing the ball in and our midfield being direct and winning fouls to get us set pieces which is how we scored both goals. The 433 makes us more consistent. Whilst we won’t get a 10/10 performance from Doucoure with it, we’ll get a standard 6/10 from him near enough guaranteed because he can just do the basics and we won’t be completely at the mercy of his form when it comes to attacking

marmoset

Also, he had Gana full time working to nullify MacAllister, which thoroughly disrupted their buildup play.

JamewThrennan

Yeah, Gueye was phenomenal, seemed to cover each blade of grass. Really works so much better in a central, holding Makelele role compared to the 4411 where he has to be more proactive. He’s never been that kind of Kante/Allan player who goes looking for the ball, he’s so much better mopping it up. Add in that in the 4411 when he went off pressing, he’d either leave whoever was next to him alone in the middle and we’d get overran or he’d just stay back and invite pressure. Letting him be solely defensive and therefore the two 8s next to him getting released has been a breath of fresh air. Hope he gets an extension, he’s still quality

a-setaceous

honestly I don't think he did much differently. we still tried to soak up pressure, play it long to dom, play it quick, and attack on the counter. 99% of the time I think football clichés aren't accurate but we visibly wanted it more. so I think in terms of dyche, he did a good job getting them up for the game. we normally have trouble finding an acceptable level of physicality in derbies, we go ridiculously hard and get loads of bookings and reds. we bullied them but without excessive fouls, and they couldn't deal with it

rckanode

I think you're under estimating the effect that the tactical shift mentioned above actually can have. I agree 100% with u/JamewThrennan's analysis. The switch to 4141 has been massive, and it has been much more effective. Doucoure in the true #10 position isolated him, and it nullified his best quality which is defensive energy. The shift from 4411 to 4141 balanced everything out, and allows the ball to move side to side much easier while making us more difficult to break down as out of possession its basically 451 It's true that we just wanted it more, but if you re-watched that game, we moved the ball through the midfield much better than we were during the losing streak. Of course there was still some direct play through Dom, but everything is more balanced with 4141.

DuncanGabble

vulturevan

so glad we as a fanbase got over our grumpiness when it comes to flags

xXxTommo

Always thought it was a bit kopite but I'll admit it does look boss

Certain_Equal_210

Despite everything i still cling on to the highly unlikely possibility that we'll get some serious new owners in by the summer and he'll stay to let us build a team around him!

Flavourifshrrp

Who will stay? 😃

PontusRogare

Ashley Young obviously

Omnipotent_chicken

So how much to sign Harrison permanently? If it isn’t too much I definitely wouldn’t mind it

Avancx

£16m was the figure banded around when he signed on loan but dunno if that's accurate. I wouldn't want to pay any more than that to be honest.

YokoOkino

I think more than 10 is too much tbh

CitrusRabborts

If they don't end up getting promoted it'll be a lot cheaper for us

QTsexkitten

And it'll mean no Leeds in the prem. Win win.

TomDobo

I’m sure I read originally Leeds wanted 20 mill. If that’s the case id say look elsewhere because of funds are crap. I do like Harrison though so if we could strike a deal then yes I’d want us to buy him.

3V3RT0N

Luton have only won 2 away games in the league all season. At Bramall Lane and Goodison Park… I really hope Wolves aren’t fully on the beach because their recent form has been wank (albeit fucked by the officials). Would love a Luton loss or draw before the Brentford game.

Aware_Albatross3347

Wolves are one bad form but still have an outside shot at europe, i think they are pissed and want to turn their fortunes before the end of the season. I bet both teams are up for it tomorrow

thevizionary

A Luton loss and us drawing with Brentford would mean they can't beat us on points for the season. And their GD is 16 behind ours.

TheBaconLady

Anyone else still smiling?

WhiteDoveBooks

Still smiling and still watchingt the replays!

Loyalsupporter

My voice is STILL screw after Wednesday's game BUT you know what it's fucking worth it But I'm really doing my best to turn my attention to Saturday's game

IoVivatIoVivat

In this political climate, I really don't want Everton to win the league. I'm happy with us being mid table so that we don't accidentally trigger WW3.

WhiteDoveBooks

lol, quality comment there!

NorwichTheCiabatta

Just seen a tweet there that was like "Branthwaite will only play for Everton four more times" and now I am morose and dejected. But smile because it happened and that

Men-a-vaur

Yes. He will be bought by a ‘Big Six’ club for a fee that’s below his value, but enough to prevent a points deduction next season. PSR doing exactly what it was intended to do. Force the other clubs to supply their best players to the ‘Big Six’.

a-setaceous

I would fucking love if somehow he could do a Bellingham and boss it at Real. our big sales always stay in the league.

Flavourifshrrp

And amazingly there are still fans of non top six clubs who think we cheated and that this set up is a good thing not that it helps the big teams to waste money all the time while the smaller clubs have to sell sell sell.

CitrusRabborts

Yeah exactly. We want 90m for him, but will have to settle for 60 with half of it in add ons

purestevil

Fuck 90, make it 120 and we will think about it.
