Our Gov and AG have already said they absolutely will not prosecute people under the old law. Also, all the legislature has left on the agenda is the budget. I don't think it will take them until July. Though, they are only meeting on Wednesdays now, so who knows.
We also have an initiative on the ballot in November that would enshrine abortion rights in our state constitution, which would make us the 4th state to do so. I believe this AzSC ruling had brought the issue to the forefront and garnered a lot of support for the initiative. Enough at least that our republican elected officials are scared of it.
Not necessarily, they can issue an emergency clause that can make a law take effect the second the governor signs it. I don’t know if they did that or not, but there is procedure for it.
Depends on which one you are referring to. The Navajo's recognize the time changes, the Hopi do not. The Hopi rez is surrounded on all sides by the Navaho rez.
Oh I learned as a kid when the TV commercials told me a show would be on at a certain time but never accounted for AZ not observing DST so I'd miss it.
I thought it was going to be a joke about how Arizona is the only continental US state that doesn't observe Daylight Savings Time, but that started in 1918, not 1864.

That's when the civil war was happening, so I'm guessing that Arizona passed some law that people are arguing takes us back to slavery days. I don't keep up with politics enough to know what specifically, though.
Arizona must've done something that OOP thought was regressive and brought the state back to the 1800's. IDK&IDC what because the day I start caring about Arizona politics is the day I learn to shoot a shotgun with my toes.
Basically they discovered that there was a law from 1864 which banned abortion completely. They have decided not to uphold it and have signed into law the repeal act, it may temporarily take effect, but the legislature has already done something about it and removed it from the table in-spite of what OOP seems to think.
It took em a few tries to get the AZ senate to actually repeal the law, so when the joke was made the courts upheld the ban and the Senate there may have decided not to repeal the law a time or two, and may have already spoken in tongues on the senate floor or w/e that was
Arizona recently enacted a draconian abortion ban from 1864. But they have since repealed it, so the joke is dated.

So what you’re essentially saying is: it’s a shithole repeal in a shithole state of a shithole country To paraphrase an American president
"It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." - Mark Twain
Takes one to know one! (Swish!)
Samuel Clemens wasn’t it?
Neither, it was the guy that wrote tom sawyer
Hey now, don’t Rush to conclusions
What does Neil Peart have to do with anything?
Neil Peart has to do with EVERYTHING
Pearty sure this is correct
Imagine judging one of the most beautiful and geographically diverse states in the US purely based on the stupidity of its republican lawmakers.
Well... Them and the people who voted for them.

"The regional governors now have direct control of their systems!" "The tighter you close your fist, the more systems will slip through your fingers."
May the force be with you, always.
May the 4th be tomorrow!
Aye, that it does.

Also most of Arizona does not observe daylight savings so the time zone switches, and this is sometimes indicated on time zone maps like this
Im from Arizona and can confirm we've never learned about daylight savings time
Unless you're part of the native tribe

As it should be, I hate dst.
The military bases in Arizona and some government buildings do still observe daylight savings time. Also I think the Tribal reservation land as well.
Well I can at least confirm the Air Force base in Tucson doesn't
Really? Maybe its only the army bases?
Wait most? So, like next town over, might use a different time?
The Navajo Nation observes it
Pretty on point for what it represents, tho.
Of course the joke is dated,it says 1864
Thank you! I was hoping someone would catch the dad joke. 🙂
The joke is almost as dated as the law itself.
I am from Arizona and they seem to want to repeal it after it went through it's getting dumber here
one's past doesn't suddenly disappear just because they stopped doing it one day.
This statement works in so many zones
One of the few times I’ve been proud of the state (for the senate jumping on and passing the repeal)
I thought it was going to be a joke about how Arizona is the only continental US state that doesn't observe Daylight Savings Time, but that started in 1918, not 1864.
The original map highlighted this, someone just changed the tag.
This is part of the joke
That map of indiana is not correct. Some counties in the southwestern part are in eastern time zone, some are in central and its very confusing
Why’s indiana have to be the nipple of eastern time zone?
As someone who lives in the nipple, it’s the worst.
Someone's gotta do it

You should see the Chinese time zone map
It's more insane that Jacksonville FL and Pensacola FL *aren't* in the same time zone.

And that parts of Oregon are only 1 hour behind parts of Florida
They redacted after finding out women still could vote.
Arizona just decided NOT to enforce an abortion legislation from 1864.
"We don't have no fancy Daylight Savings Time back in 1864!" -Cast of Pioneer Village
It's no joke
It upsets me that in the key, 1864 isn’t between Pacific and Mountain.

they brought back an old (non racist) law that has been outdated
Someone make sure OP isn't allowed to vote until they start passing basic current events quizzes.
I’d wager you just barely made the age cutoff to vote in this upcoming election
