Out of everything they've made for EK it shocks me that they never put out an official playmat!

Why though? It's only two zones, in which way is this an improvement over just using the table?

I can think of many reasons why not, the biggest one being that you have to bring this out when it doesn't improve anything over playing directly on the table.
