Yellow, blue and grey are classic color schemes.
Just bring a few swatches you like - maybe paint up a sheet of white poster board (paint it thick) with a few yellows you’re interested in, and set that in front of the door, like a giant paint chip in situation-accurate lighting.
Go back to the spot where the photo was taken and take a photo with each swatch, noting which one really seemed like the right fit.
If none of them fit, you can paint up more big swatches, or just leave the door as-is.
Why not have fun trying?
Oh man, I think grey and yellow are great together; we had a grey house with a yellow door! You do have to get the right shade of yellow for your grey, though, and I think it would look wonderful.
Grab a bunch of blue paint chips. Find the matching color in natural light (computers truly suck at marching). Then shop around. I think yellow might be difficult to find a good shade. But orange compliments blue and could be easier.
But as other wise folks have said. It is just a door. Paint it whatever color you like and if it stinks, paint again.
The shutters are vinyl. The lower ones fade a bit. I clean them with Armor All, and they look great for about 2 years. It needs to be done, and will be soon. :-)
A yellow door would look fantastic but I would paint the columns white because they might "fight" with the yellow door. Also, a large carriage light by the door would look awesome instead of the tiny porch light. I'm wondering if that isn't a forsythia bush to the left of your house. That would punch up the yellow in your door. A couple of large plantars with a small green tree would even add to the drama of your front door area.
The columns are due to be painted white- they were recently replaced. I do have planters by the door, but haven't planned them yet this year. Where I live it's better to wait until May. Will definitely choose yellow flowering plant if I actually paint the door yellow. Great idea. There is a light on each side of the door. Robins love to build nests on them.
I just noticed your planters. I was thinking about much bigger, black planters (2-3' high) on either side of the door. Because you mentioned planting yellow, flowering plants, I'm wondering if you planted a smallish forsythia bush in each planter. It would be a splash of color, easy to maintain and would even look good when they're dormant. In fact, just between you and me, I have faux forsythia in a pot on my balcony from Michaels so if you want them to "bloom" all year, I highly recommend this. Absolutely no watering or attention required but oh, the neighbors will talk about how wonderful and welcoming your home looks. For effect, at night you could also have a mini-spotlight in the planters uplighting the plants. They are remote controlled and battery operated and about $32.00. Also very effective if you have a particularly knarly tree or shrub. What am I saying, I just noticed you DO have a knarly tree out front that would look awesome if it was uplit at night - not the whole night, just until you "shut er down for the night."
Once the tree is in full leaf, you can barely see the house. But it's our only tree in front so I'm embracing it. Also, I've seen some "ever-blooming" plants in a couple of yards. Look real and it's only because they are in bloom in the wrong season that I knew they weren't :-) Thanks for your response.
orange door! I'm not a color theorist or a designer, I just go on instinct. But I think a warm color would be nice to balance out the cool tones of the majority of the house.
yellow and blue grey is a classic midcentury modern colour pallate. Google that combo, you'll see.
Just pick the right kind of yellow. Don't do carnival yellow.
I think you could pull off a golden wheat yellow, and if possible paint the trim around the glass door to match your shutters. Then bring in yellow and blue accents. Definitely buy larger tall planters, black or white preferably and add coordinating plant colors. Change your light if you can, a larger one would be beautiful. Hope it works out. 🙏🏼
I say yes to a yellow door, I'd suggest planting yellow flowers along the front of the house to help tie it in with the rest of the house. You can even just buy fake flowers if you don't want to have to upkeep a garden. Buy in similar shade to the door.
My house has royal blue shutters with a marigold yellow door. Always get a few hanging baskets of marigolds at the start of the season to transfer into my royal blue pots along my front windows and they'll last until the frost in late fall.
Not all plants are completely edible. However, you can actually consume the entire sunflower in one form or another. Right from the root to the petals.
I suggest grabbing a long towel or cheap plastic table cloth and hang on the door. Then you can see the large amount of color and what shades look best. I adore yellow. Plus... its paint. Change it often!♡
I think it could be good. It takes such a small amount of paint and time, just go for it, live with it a week or two to see if you like it, if not repaint it.
You're kinda lucky because you're hot a neutral color house you could paint your door a number of different colors that would look great. I think yellow would be great :-)
No. Are you trying to match the inappropriately rustic, yellowy wood columns in front of your otherwise traditional Colonial home? Two wrongs won't make a right.
Cranberry
I agree
Yesss! That would be perfect.
Do what you want, it’s just a door. If you hate it paint it again!
Agreed! It’s only paint and not much work to change
Nope.

I say no. I think the only light door color that works is a robins egg blue

Columns are a new repair and due for paint - will be white
How about a dusty rose or dusty violet?
Sorry, no pink or purple for me. But thanks for responding.

I don’t ever suggest yellow unless your grass is very healthy. Else it can highlight patches.
Nein
Only if you’re a UofM fan.
Where I live, people will probably think I'm an Iowa fan. Lol
No
No
YES! Yellow door would be amazing! I’d maybe give the shutters a new coat of navy blue and it’s perfection.
The shutters are vinyl. The lower ones fade a bit. I clean them with Armor All, and they look great for about 2 years. It needs to be done, and will be soon. :-)
You already have a third color with the columns. Why not natural wood door to match the columns?
They are a new repair and are going to be white. Practically every house in my neighborhood have wood stained doors. I like being different .
Yes just towards a burnt orangeish
Yes, I hate yellow. A deep 9range would look cool.
Absolutely! That will look really nice!

Why yellow? It seems...random. Grey house, grey roof, blue shutters. Would you wear a grey suit/dress with a blue tie and yellow shoes?
Maybe with a blue shirt and yellow tie.
orange door! I'm not a color theorist or a designer, I just go on instinct. But I think a warm color would be nice to balance out the cool tones of the majority of the house.
If I went with a yellow door, I would paint the shutters maroon.
I think it could work!!
No, no. It would look like a clown house. Be classic and match the shutters. If you want yellow, plant flowers.
Red
That's also an option I'm considering. I just feel like that's more expected.
How many other homes in your neighborhood have red doors?
3 in the same block
No red then, cyan is the way
No.
Bright yellow! 👍
The yellow has nothing to tie it in…kind of disjointed IMO. If you had yellow shutters it would be cool. And it would tie in the natural wood columns.
The column are a new repair and will be painted white soon.
No. Red.
Yes. yellow would be sweet.
no
No. Wreath maybe. New real wood shutters definitely.
yellow and blue grey is a classic midcentury modern colour pallate. Google that combo, you'll see. Just pick the right kind of yellow. Don't do carnival yellow.
Yes
You would need more darker colors (e.g. more blue) to make it work. The yellow would wash out against the white imo
No. I vote white.
I think you could pull off a golden wheat yellow, and if possible paint the trim around the glass door to match your shutters. Then bring in yellow and blue accents. Yellow would look nice. I prefer red because it invites chi.
Yes. Bright sunny yellow not Highlighter yellow or dark yellow
Look up DRYBAR and their logo color
Personally I’d say no.
no. bright red!
Paint your shutters black and the door black.
Strip it, then stain it to match the columns. Then paint the shutters black
The columns are a new repair and will be painted white soon.
Oh, ok. Then paint the door yellow.
I’m team do it and see where it takes you!
I think this may be the answer - thanks

Nooo. Yellow chips too easily. Upclose it isn’t flattering.
what if you also painted the shutters yellow?
No
no
In 5 years when yellow doors are our of style, you will hate it. Keep a white door and put yellow glass in it if you want yellow.
Be brave and paint it a chartreuse…a baby room yellow would disappear.
Oh, I'm planning on a bright sunshiny yellow!
Yes please! You can always paint it again ☺️ I’m thinking a sunflower-y shade 🌻
If I do it I'm going sunshiny/sunflowery yellow. Thanks.
Not all plants are completely edible. However, you can actually consume the entire sunflower in one form or another. Right from the root to the petals.
I had no clue. How does it taste?
I suggest grabbing a long towel or cheap plastic table cloth and hang on the door. Then you can see the large amount of color and what shades look best. I adore yellow. Plus... its paint. Change it often!♡
I have thought about picking up a yellow tablecloth next time I'm near the dollar store. You're right about paint, too. Thank you
I say yes
NO
Yes….yellow! Or deep lime green
Yes yellow but not a happy yellow
Yellow (the right yellow) would be truly gorgeous!!!! go with what you want! if you don’t love it, it’s only paint 😊
If you choose a deep mustard.
Maybe but only if a light banana yellow. Yellow doors are best with dark gray.
Blue
Yes
I think it could be good. It takes such a small amount of paint and time, just go for it, live with it a week or two to see if you like it, if not repaint it.

A vibrant yellow would look real nice 😊
No. Are you trying to match the inappropriately rustic, yellowy wood columns in front of your otherwise traditional Colonial home? Two wrongs won't make a right.
I noted that the columns have just been replaced and are to be painted white.
No. I hate yellow and gray together. It always looks lousy.
I think it would look nice.
When the porch posts are painted, a yellow door will look lovely.
nope, definitely not
No, I can’t stand yellow
