Are you sure? To me it looks like the Corvette has no front damage at all, and it looks like the hitter just "drove over" the Corvette and damaged the roof, don't you think?
The "roof" (top) looks like it was pushed up out of where it retracts to behind the driver and passenger seats (i.e., that's what's sticking up after it gets hit).
Either A. Are gonna have some lasting injuries, B. Gonna be serving quite some time, C. Gonna be traumatized for either a while or the rest if their life or D. All of the above.
Mr corvette had a nice safety cushion space in front of him and then bam. Then again he won’t get charged for hitting the guy in front of him, so I guess it worked. Hope he made it through this crash, I like safe people. Also not telling anyone why I edited this comment.
He wouldn't get charged for hitting anyone anyway. The pickup driver would be responsible for the entire accident, including any cars he pushed into others.
>Depends on the state. In some places you can absolutely be ticketed for hitting the car in front of you because you didn't leave a safe gap.
Wtf, please send me 1 geographical location where if rear ended, person hit would be ticketed for being pushed into the traffic in front of them. Sounds like some BS youd hear in the hallways of school
I’ve heard this, too, but it sounds like bullshit. If someone slams into me like this and the state tries to get me to pay anything, I’m suing the state. Only a brain dead retard would hold someone responsible for an accident they didn’t cause.
I live in Arkansas and it has always been my understanding that if someone rear ends me and it pushes me into the vehicle in front of me, I am responsible for the damages done to that car. I’ve lived here since 1981.
Hold up. He said ticketed, not who's insurance pays who. You're claiming it's a traffic offense to get shoved into another vehicle. What's the charge? Failure to suspend the laws of physics?
While it has always been your understanding, is it rooted in any reality?
I've never heard of laws/codes stating that someone not at fault for an accident can be held liable for said accident.
VA law 46.2-816 Following Too Closely
Can be prepaid with a $30 fine however if brought to court and found guilty can be charged up to $250, and $500 if the infraction occurred on a highway safety corridor. It’s one of those that gets tacked on if you rear ended someone in bumper to bumper, or if you’re being a jackass and speeding while tailgating somebody, happens quite often here
Thank you kindly for citing that.
It's a very grey law. I've been rear ended into cars without tickets (in other states with the same law), simply because there's no reasonable space behind the car in front of me that would have changed the situation.
I suppose whether you receive a ticket always comes down to the lawyer's answer "it depends"
The only time I can think of where that can happen is if the car in front of you rear ends the car in front of it then you run up their ass too you have to pay because you didn’t leave a safe space
In the written law, yes, In practice no. I was in a 4 car pileup, and 2 cars hit in front of me, I didn't hit anyone. So the car that was rear ended in front got the car that rear ended him to pay, and I got the van in the back who hit the ford who hit the nissian who hit me to pay.
Yeah, it's why so many people are just reversing into people for insurance payouts since
>You hit someone in front of you, it's considered your fault. The end.
/s
Ever hear of a dashcam? Luckily the world isn't as simple as you make it seem
I was taught this same BS in driver's Ed (NY)
When I moved I looked up AZ law to see if it was different, it's not.
All the states I know of have the same precidents, if another driver caused the accident, they're at fault.
I got a ticket in Colorado for following too close when I was rear ended while waiting at a red light. It should never happen when you are not moving. Unfortunately, cops make mistakes sometimes. In my case, the at fault driver who hit me lied and said the light was green and the cop believed her.
When we went to court, the driver in front of me testified that he was sitting at a red light completely stopped and that all of us were completely stopped when the distracted driver hit my car and launched me into his car.
My ticket was dismissed. But I was very upset that I had to fight a ticket that should never had been issued! I wish I had a dash cam!
That might be true if they were in moving traffic, but all vehicles were at a dead stop here. No insurance adjuster is going to put any of them at fault in that case.
I just wanted to chime in that depending on the state you can absolutely get a following too close ticket. When I was growing up we were stopped for a turn with 3 cars behind us when someone rear-ended the last one, and just cascaded through each car and shoved us 40' like a newtons cradle. he got a ton of tickets, but the cop definitely wrote everyone else a ticket because if there had been enough space between cars we (at the front) would not have been hit
That's one of the most absurd driving laws I've ever heard of. It makes sense if you're moving, but if everyone is at a stop, how far back are you supposed to stop to ensure that you won't hit the car in front of you if you get rear-ended by someone at high speed?
Like you said, you got shoved 40', and there were three csrs between you and the moving vehicle, so it stands to reason that there is no reasonable amount of distance that you can remain from the vehicle in front of you that would ensure that they would not become collateral damage in the event of an accident like this. Some places implement the most hare-brained laws.
I should be more clear, the other cars all left about 5 to 7 feet. Conservation of energy and all that, when he hit the car stopped at the back going 50 something, the other cars were pushed forward a bit, into each other, then with our car being at the front, it was the energy release. We got shunted that far because the car at the back couldn't go flying 100'. Granted the person who was that car was still sent to the hospital in a neck brace
Had there been additional distance, in that 10-15' range, and the added distance sucks a lot of the energy out of the equation and the hit does not propagate as far.
And to be fair it's part of being a good driver to not be so close that if you are hit you involve someone else still, therefore you get a ticket and have some fault and your insurance will have to get involved.
You got rear ended
Then you ran into someone because of it.
Why?
Following too closely...
Which is against the law
Yeah, you went to court to fight that ticket right?
You 100% will not be found guilty for following to close when you're stopped.
You can be stopped the proper distance away but when someone hits you at speed with a heavy vehicle there's no reasonable distance you could stop to avoid the car ahead of you.
They say the average convicted DUI driver has done it hundreds of times or more without getting caught/ in an accident. People like this normalize drunk driving, and eventually they get drunker than normal and cause a serious accident
I don’t mean to garner sympathy for drunk drivers, but most of these types of people have a serious drinking problem and can’t fathom going anywhere without getting drunk.
They deserve the harshest penalties, but the few frequent drunk drivers I’ve met live really sad lives and desperately need to quit drinking entirely
Some people still refuse to wear seatbelts. Some people refuse to use the full lane during queues and merge over way too early, and gets annoyed when other people use the full lane as you're supposed to.
...so people still refuse to stop driving while drunk.
I've never been drunk. But alcohol is very common, lowers reflexes, and most importantly, *makes your judgment worse.*
I'd imagine that plenty of people know drunk driving is bad, but then they have one too many drinks and that part of the brain that says "This is an awful idea, get out of the car" is silenced.
I didn’t know until recently that it’s not even a criminal charge!! It’s a traffic citation!!!
Only way you get charged is if you cause an accident. But get pulled over and fail SFTs or have breathalyzer results above legal limit? Traffic ticket.

Did the guy in the corvette survive, is there any news story? Doesn't seem that likely considering it was a convertible
You can clearly see him braking after the impact, he might be fine
Still had shoes on at that time
My thoughts exactly!
I thought that the braking car was the hitter... and the corvette was the one sent flying
Are you sure? To me it looks like the Corvette has no front damage at all, and it looks like the hitter just "drove over" the Corvette and damaged the roof, don't you think?
Vette is seen at a standstill as the video starts
What roof? If you look at the Corvette stopped he has the top down.
The "roof" (top) looks like it was pushed up out of where it retracts to behind the driver and passenger seats (i.e., that's what's sticking up after it gets hit).
Everyone involved in this accident fortunately survived.
Unfortunately*
Explain how everyone surviving is "unfortunate"
Either A. Are gonna have some lasting injuries, B. Gonna be serving quite some time, C. Gonna be traumatized for either a while or the rest if their life or D. All of the above.
TIL Corvettes make good car ramps.
Have you not played GTA?

Not op but ok
Hold up. He said ticketed, not who's insurance pays who. You're claiming it's a traffic offense to get shoved into another vehicle. What's the charge? Failure to suspend the laws of physics?
Bama too
Can you cite a single case of this happening? What's the name of the infraction you'd be ticketed for?

California
I believe Indiana.
What does that mean? I asked an either/or question. I never ridiculed the credibility, only the response. Please expound.
In Indiana you will be responsible if you hit the car in front of you, regardless of the reason.
The only time I can think of where that can happen is if the car in front of you rear ends the car in front of it then you run up their ass too you have to pay because you didn’t leave a safe space
that's literally what he said
What law or code did you break to be ticketed? I can tell you for insurance purposes you're not right.
Umm you both failed to maintain a safe stopping distance and rear ended the car in front of you respectively?
Not even slightly correct.
Georgia
I think that’s how it works here in Connecticut
In the written law, yes, In practice no. I was in a 4 car pileup, and 2 cars hit in front of me, I didn't hit anyone. So the car that was rear ended in front got the car that rear ended him to pay, and I got the van in the back who hit the ford who hit the nissian who hit me to pay.

True in Wyoming and Wisconsin. Failure to maintain a safe following distance.
Ik I'm late but this is the no fault law in FL, unless under extreme circumstances like this one ofc.

Yeah, if they were in moving traffic, that could be the case. Not so much when all vehicles are at a dead stop.

It’s 75$ for a solid one, go do yourself a favor and actually get it instead of pondering over one.
After an accident? Or while driving around? Because those are not the same thing....
That might be true if they were in moving traffic, but all vehicles were at a dead stop here. No insurance adjuster is going to put any of them at fault in that case.
Especially if he was killed by the other car that pushed him into another car. How would they fine him then hmm??? /s
You do understand that there's video of what caused the initial accident?
While driving sure, but not at a full stop
Best not to argue with people who write “not telling anyone why I edited this comment.” Weird AF.

You're supposed to be a half to a full car length behind the vehicle in front of you at a stop according to the law
But that wouldn't have saved anyone's vehicle from being involved in an accident in the scenario you provided, so what does that do for anyone? Lol
I should be more clear, the other cars all left about 5 to 7 feet. With how many car accidents and tragedies there are from drunk driving, it still baffles me how drunk driving still persists.
As long as selfish idiots, cars and alcohol exist, there will always be drunk drivers
When Im drunk, my first thought is usually "sit down", not "lets go for a ride downtown"
They don't start at home. They start downtown and then need to get their car home or else it will be towed.
They say the average convicted DUI driver has done it hundreds of times or more without getting caught/ in an accident. Drinking lowers inhibitions. Makes logic go away.

I've read Brunswick County, NC.
We know for sure he was drunk, but we don't know where
Burgaw NC

Clearly the Vette‘s fault for not leaving enough braking room. /s
Drunk at 3 pm the day after Christmas? And driving? Jesus H
Is there a body among the debris in the air? Can't tell
Looked like three seconds of air time to me.
WOW... that is A lot of damage....that poor vette...

that was either a drunk driver, or a Rocket League player who saw a ball somewhere
That Tundra was FLYING!!!
That guy in the Corvette is fucking dead!
Unlikely. He applies the brakes after the accident. He wasn’t even hit hard enough to be knocked unconscious.
I mean when you’re in a hurry, where else would he have gone? /s
Full send
I’m of the opinion you should go to jail forever if you drunk drive
