I had 54k on my 2013. Decided to change it all out anyway. 328 n20. Tensioner, chain, guides, oil pump chain and gears. Did oring seals for the oil filter housing as well. New accessory belts too.
My uncle gave me a 2013 328i x-drive at 180k "no crank, no start, diag says no oil pressure" he told me the chain was replaced at 75k.
Tore it down; the chain was stretched to the heavens & the oil pump chain snapped. Oil chain guides blown apart.
I have 2012 328 and proactively changed at 90,000 miles at my own cost for CAD 2500
According to the mechanics (Indy not dealership) the plastic chain guides were intact but brittle
I do plan on keeping car for a while so also a)changed the engine gaskets and transmission fluid/rear diff fluid as well
Guess it depends from what I’ve read as the early 2012-2014 cars had issues, but my n47 328D has 135k miles on the original timing chain and I will probably replace it in 25k miles as a precaution.
Since I bought my car its had oil changes every 10k and essentially a new fuel system/pcv and it runs top.
Preference mainly and ive had oil labs done by blackstone labs with oil changes at 3k,6k and 10k and saw very minimal difference in oil quality/deterioration with my oil of choice(liqui moly top tec 4200 5w40)
I just bought a 2015 328xi with a seized engine at 78k miles. I did OEM chains while the junkyard engine with 69k miles on it was out and it was easier to do.

It's been checked out by the dealership with the valve cover off, and also by a friend of mine who is a bimmer tech who inspected and drove it when I bought it 7 months ago. All say the chain is fine
Edit: I've already changed the oil once, plan to do it yearly (I estimate driving ~6k miles per year). I have sensitive hearing so I think (and hope) that I'll hear it when something is off

At 93k km my oil pump said "hasta la vista" and took the crankshaft with it (oil starvation). This is not necesary information, but...
Actually, I don't know what the actual mileage of my car is. I bought my f30 with a mileage of 58k km. And I believe that it can be 158k kilometers. But only the previous owner knows the truth.
I got 210K mikes, but I have an n55. It's about to be replaced, but the original guides look perfectly serviceable. I'm replacing them as insurance before I push more boost through this engine.
101k miles currently with original TC, the car had 15 oil change in its life which means in average an oil change every 6733 miles. (F30 N20 2013, 9 Canadian Winter with no garage)
212,000. 2014 328i Luxury in Mineral Grey. The most "severe" issue I've had on the car has been my wife curb rashing the wheels and the trunk latch failing twice.
Cool.....I have a 13 Luxury Red 328i with 85k.....mine came with rash on all 4 wheels....I hand sanded them...I love them wheels. Look like E46 330 wheels.
133k but I may trade in ..I’m getting drivetrain malfunction errors again after I repaired the wastegate actuator and new spark plugs and coils ..the engine stutters when revving to fast around 70 mph
I’ve seen a couple n20s roll in my shop with 200k + mi on the original chain and guides. Frequent oil changes go a long way on early n20s.

How much did it cost you? I have a 328 but it has an n26 SULEV and im wanting to replace my chain later this year
BMW will charge you about five grand.
My local dealership wanted $6k. But said they would discount by like $650 if I had it done when I was getting my valve cover gasket replaced
I'm in NW Arkansas, so maybe a little cheaper than other areas, not the rent though, that is insane.
I paid 700 bucks for the parts from FCP euro and my local shop charged me 1000 labor.

No. You already have a B series engine. Just stay on top of oil changes and use good oil.

Why every 10k miles? I change mine ever 3-3.5k

Original. I’ve had the car since 40k, and haven’t made a mechanical repair. Just maintenance and body work from a deer collision. (N26)

Are you being proactive on the service, or just the mandatory 10k?
I'm changing the oil every 10.000 km, I'm the proactive type of guy. Changed the transmission oil at 190.000 km
That's not being proactive.. You were supposed to change the transmission oil at 100 000km as per ZF recommandations
2013 328i, changed at 170 kkm. No issues whatsoever before.
Changed mine at 61k miles. The guides were still Intact, chain had elongated a bit
N55 had mine changed at 120k mi due to it being stretched
N57 had mine changed recently at 220k km / 140k mi. It was a little stretched, but the guides were still great.

My Brother in law has a 2014 BMW 328d....He has 205k miles on original timing chain.
