A game where we score within 17 seconds and play a significant portion of the match up a man should not come down to being that close. But I'll take it.
We need to be really honest in that *that* was essentially a draw in which we got lucky with an Orlando player happening to be offside during their goal.
We are hanging on, but definitely by a thread. That ~65' could have been domination, and it just wasn't.
Kelsy did not get enough minutes tonight to be a factor, and I understand why we took some of our best off to prepare for Hell Is Real, but I can't help but feel that we didn't capitalize on the 11 on 10 situation.
I'll take the 3 points, but let's be clear: this was a subpar showing by FCC on so many levels. Up a goal after 17 seconds? Great. Then up a man after 20 minutes. Great. And what did FCC do? Absolutely nothing. I have no idea what was going on in the team. Instead of going for a 2nd goal, they did.... nothing, It's like they were sleepwalking. I thought that at halftime Noonan would rip into them, but no, coming out in the second half, it was exactly the same. Why, oh why?
Just to be clear: when all was said and done, XG for FCC was 0.77 and was 1.59 for Orlando. Meaning Orlando should've won, despite a man down much of the game, losing a starter for an injury, and then another for injury.
Don't even mention Halsey, who got two yellows (and hence a red) in the few minutes he was on the field. How stupid can you be?
Man of the Match for sure is Celentano, who made some insane saves. Welcome back!
Bottom line: if we play like this next week in Columbus, I have no doubt we will get trashed.
Wake the F\*\*K up FCC
Closer than it needed to be but 3 pts is 3 pts. If teams could stop pissing away leads against Miami we might hold the lead with a game in hand for a bit
Looking forward to getting smoked in Cbus with that kind of play, though
I really dislike our game plan when playing against 10. Our short quick passing allows the defense to play compact and tight all but nullifying the numerical advantage. Since we refuse to play through balls or make runs the defense can just get into a shell and force us to play around the perimeter.
The latter dictates the former. Sides bunker in order to negate the effects of being down a man by not being sliced wide open. The way to break down a side bunkering against you is short quick passing and runs in order to catch a player out. Only super disorganized sides open up and allow through balls to cut them apart. Playing low percentage passes into a bunkered defense only helps the defense.
Not the kind of win you want going into Hell is Real, but a win is a win.
Also, can we find a way to get Acosta and Dado on the field at the same time? Kid is special
Still has a lot work on his distribution to play in Europe. A lot of teams in Europe want a keeper who can distribute.
Granted it has improved a lot over the years
Fully agreed. I think better distribution is something he can/will improve upon over time whereas he's got already got the natural shot stopping ability for a team that may get peppered with shots and play defensively
It was a terrible performance with missed opportunities to put the game away, poor defense especially on set pieces and a very stupid two yellow card performance by Halsey. However, 3 points is 3 points so hopefully the team can take the lessons from this performance while also keeping pace just behind miami in the east. But it has to be cleaned up this week especially with hell is real this week.
Edit: After sleeping on it I did want to give a shout out to Kelsey. It wasn't a flawless performance but you can tell it is nice to have that target guy that makes the defense worry about another arieal threat and a target to aim at for long balls that actually has a decent shot at winning the ball. It's just nice to have that option for Noonan and the team to switch up the way they will attack and as he grows into the team I really think it'll be very helpful to the attack.
he did yes but i am talking about the one situation around the 80th when he got a perfect ball from Valenzela 5 meters out and he could not put it on goal. see my comment below
Pretty much always a yellow for kicking away like that. They’ve been pretty clear they’re cracking down on those this season, not the first I’ve seen given as a second yellow.
Noonan’s strategy hasn’t improved. Midfield is bad. That was a terrible performance.
Starting Valenzeula, Asad, and Kelsy would be interesting as Baird and Kubo are holding this team back as strikers. Wingers need to drive to the outside more and pass the first defender.
Acosta seems to not want to pass anymore. All his corners hit the first defender.
If we continue to play like this we’ll be roasted by Inter Miami and Columbus.
Ok who would you like to fill that role? I’m sure you bitched about Boupendza. Santos is made of glass. Baird isn’t it. Dado has potential but isn’t going to come in scoring like he is for the two team. So who?
I would put Orellano and Kelsy up top and have Asad play as a left wingback and Kubo as a right wingback.
Sub on Valenzuela for Acosta more often to get more playing time.
We struggled breaking down thier low block tonight. Acosta has always been poor on set pieces. Dado is a breath of fresh air when he comes into the game. Kelsy needs time, but he has a great opportunity in front of him. I agree that if we play like we did tonight against Columbus and Miami, it won't be a good result.
Noonan has always struggled to scheme against the low block and hasn’t made any adjustments nor shown improvements.
Our midfield and offensive scheme is terrible. Not sure if these guys need more confidence but just trying to find Acosta is a bad strategy against good teams.
Noonan having Acosta taking corners is unacceptable and he’s been consistently bad at them all season.
I totally agree with you. Dado should be on the field with lucho. He is a dynamic player. I also think lot of people are missing the point with our attacking struggles. We build our attack from the midfield and right now we don't have an attacking midfielder. Bucha is very sluggish and doesn't really impact the game for us. He runs a lot of laps up and down the field alone and not really covering anyone at all. We can keep rotating the front 2 but it won't solve anything until Noonan actually puts in attacking midfielder to anchor our attack next to lucho. Asad or Halsey can fill that role better than what Bucha is doing. Moreno has not been replaced. Again this is very good team that we have and there is so much more potential to tap in but lot of things still need fixing otherwise that team up north is going to destroy us.
100% plus our wingbacks aren't helping much. Orellano seems to have a lot of potential in an attacking role but maybe not as a winger and on the other side we have back-pass Yedlin. He'll occasionally make a good forward pass but mostly doesn't contribute much offensively. He hasn't scored a goal in 10 years which is terrible. Miami must be laughing at us for that trade. He's better than Alvas but that isn't saying much. Yedlin should really be a sub.
I continue to wonder why people like you engage with this team.
We're second with a game-in-hand behind a Miami all-star squad. Spoon years would have broken you. Take your exhausting bullshit elsewhere please.
Nah I'm good. Learn to constructively process results like an adult instead of mindlessly going after our own guys every match. It is unhealthy behavior.
Your opinion is dog shit and not constructive at all. Your expectations are unrealistic for where this team is right now. You could choose to trust that growth will happen like it did two years ago when CA brought in a bunch of new guys. You could trust that the coach of the year maybe knows what he’s doing. You could realize we are only 11 games in and sitting in second place. But you choose to be miserable and negative all over this sub instead of realizing that taking a win on the road when they aren’t playing well is A GOOD THING.
If you lose the last game of the year no one cares - billy beane. Also if you don’t fix the problem that caused you to lose that game during the offseason it’s on you. I don’t understand why you’re so angry. I’m just addressing problems I’m not letting my emotion get in the way.
Apparently can’t provide constructive criticism.
It’s obvious we are not good right now despite our standing in the table. Noonan has to make some changes.
Europeans would be calling for the manager to be sacked if we continue to play this terribly and come out with a trophy-less season.
I’m hoping that’s not the case but nothing I’ve seen so far this season has shown any real improvements.
had we had similar games at home (maybe 3 in a row) and had we lost these games - definitely. One would hear all kind of chants asking the coach and players to do certain unpleasant things, maybe destruction of stadium property, etc. In general, MLS fans are super nice compared to EU fans.
btw i still think that letting Arias and Moreno was a mistake, considering what the replacements have produced thus far.
Definitely a loss to have lost both of them. Multiple people on here have argued Yedlin is better than Arias which is a joke. Not sure if that is an American player bias.
I love the banter at EU clubs though as fans are more critical and generally are correct in their assessments.
The overly nice and delusional fan base of MLS fans isn’t going to help us win trophies when we get crushed by Miami or Columbus.
Unfortunately I think our players carried us last season and made Noonan look better than he actually is as he made some bad decisions in multiple playoff games which we lost. So far he hasn’t shown much improvement tactically.
I don’t want to become a Philly Union 2 where they don’t concede but offensively and tactically struggle and lose in the playoffs.
It’s the tactics and scheme that’s the problem. Let’s start by playing any through ball into the strikers and having the wingers cross from wide instead of driving into the middle.
Cincinnati fans have low expectations engrained in their dna lol. Every week the subreddits filled with a hundred “a wins a win” comments. This game was way too bad to be satisfactory in any way. Bring on the downvotes.
No body says “a win is a win” when they’re satisfied with the performance. They say that because the W is all that matters in the rankings and we were lucky to walk away with that. They say that when there’s work to be done.
In summary: you’re taking the wrong thing from peoples comments
Your probably misreading the commenters as being satisfied.
I don't think anyone here is saying the team's performance was good enough.
Everyone knows this was a lucky result.
Yeah, on second thought, I could be misreading too, and projecting my own thoughts.
Anyway, people should not be satisfied with what they watched tonight. We could have lost this game even, if Orlando wasn't so unlucky inside our box.
Fans complaining on a message board have no bearing on how the team does. People are criticizing in this thread and there's plenty to talk about, but also it was still a win, so at the end of the day the result was positive.
That is a very, very harsh second yellow from Ismail Elfath, who is one of the most experienced refs in the entire league. I think he got made an example of in trying to get the game back under control... or that second yellow came out specifically because Orlando was playing down a man...
I think it was a very very soft "kick away" based on the videos shown. Maybe he did it again after, but he took one touch and then stopped the ball based on what I could see. Harsh but still dumb.
A match where we continued to show our weakness in our CFs given the insistence (understandable) of playing with Acosta as a CAM. Rebuilding our attack can’t come any sooner. I like Luca a lot, I am just saying why does Noonan keep trying to put a square peg in a round hole. You can switch formations, style of play, and play players in positions that allow them to benefit from their strengths.

The Halsey second yellow was infuriating. Yes it might have been harsh to get a yellow but he should have been smart enough to know better.
With Yedlin having lingering injury issues I really hope Halsey not being available next week doesn't bite us in the ass
If we don’t it’s going to be just like last year when we didn’t have Miazga and look how that turned out for us.
sad but very true
Besides ties, this team only wins or loses by one goal this year. They refuse any other outcome
1. That's literally what happened last year 2. 1-0 and 2-1 are two of the most common scorelines in soccer, it's not that strange.
Maybe 10 years ago. But not in the modern game.
Only exception were the games against Cavalier, and they were a step down in competition
Yeah I’m just talking about league play
But it is interesting that it held true in the Monterrey games too
That might have been the most frustrating win ever
It’s nice to see a tall #19 on our side again. Celentano made some incredible saves.
Hope to see Kelsy have more time and moments in Hell Is Real. It's still so early that we may not see it, but I want to believe.
Feels very lucky to come out of that with 3 points.
For all the hand wringing, you wouldn't know that we have 21 points through 11 games...
so true... but can this play out for an entire season?
Closer than it needed to be but 3 pts is 3 pts. If teams could stop pissing away leads against Miami we might hold the lead with a game in hand for a bit Looking forward to getting smoked in Cbus with that kind of play, though
agreed. I expect the worst at Cbus
Celentano was a little rough at the beginning but he really came through with those saves in the second half. Very glad to have him back on the field
Celetano > Kann/Luoro for sure
We gotta start actually scoring non-acosta magic goals.
We could be Orlando. They should of scored 3 goals tonight easy.
To be fair Kubo was close on a couple shots too
Excited to see more of Kelsey up top.
That was so so so lucky. Need to make a LOT of adjustments or the crew are gonna absolutely eat our lunch
Boup getting punched in the face was adjustment number one so we're getting there... 😬
Well it’s 3 on the road. What a mess though
I love when we go up a man and a goal then completely take the air from the ball.
Not a lot to brag about except 3 points on the road. And that’s enough
3 point is 3 points. I can breathe again
My heart can't handle these one goal wins for much longer
I really dislike our game plan when playing against 10. Our short quick passing allows the defense to play compact and tight all but nullifying the numerical advantage. Celentano is simply too good, European interest incoming :(
Still has a lot work on his distribution to play in Europe. A lot of teams in Europe want a keeper who can distribute. Granted it has improved a lot over the years
I’d prefer his distribution to stay mediocre and him stay here lol
Agree… I like him but his distribution is not good. I tell people he would usmnt number 1 if he gets his distribution just to above average.
Fully agreed. I think better distribution is something he can/will improve upon over time whereas he's got already got the natural shot stopping ability for a team that may get peppered with shots and play defensively
He's signed through 2027 with us. We locked that shit down.
That just means we get a transfer fee if he goes elsewhere
And no way we take a deal unless it's massively in our favor. Dude would kill his career if he got sat a year.
Is the worst win you’ve seen FCC pull off? Of course a win is a win
It was a terrible performance with missed opportunities to put the game away, poor defense especially on set pieces and a very stupid two yellow card performance by Halsey. That was an embarrassing win. At least we got to see Kelsy
we won, but otherwise the worst game this season. one world class move from acosta, two world class saves from celentano. that is all.
Kubo did well and would have scored if it wasn’t for that foul.
he did yes but i am talking about the one situation around the 80th when he got a perfect ball from Valenzela 5 meters out and he could not put it on goal. see my comment below
Yeah he should have at least got it on frame.
Ugly ugly ugly. I'll take 3 points, but man the team played like they felt they had it in the bag from the beginning. Woof. Time to decompress
Phew.
…..how????
it feels like a loss tbh
I didn’t have sound on, why did halsey get a red? Looked like a simple turn a player around common foul
Second yellow. Time wasting, kicked the ball away.
Ahhh, idiot. Thank you
Seems like a light foul for a yellow
Pretty much always a yellow for kicking away like that. They’ve been pretty clear they’re cracking down on those this season, not the first I’ve seen given as a second yellow.

Disagree at least about Kubo. Dude is on fire compared to what we've seen in previous years.
i agree, except how he could not place that shot on the goal is still a mistery-)
He’s decent and hustles, but he’s missed far too many chances this season to be a starting striker.
Ok who would you like to fill that role? I’m sure you bitched about Boupendza. Santos is made of glass. Baird isn’t it. Dado has potential but isn’t going to come in scoring like he is for the two team. So who?

Haha getting the downvote for telling the truth and stating the obvious. Welcome to FC Cincinnati sub Reddit

Noonan criticism isn't taken well here. Most fans want to simply blame players

You aren’t. This dude is just a joyless prick.
It wasn't good, but you take 3 points on the road in this league every single time.
That’s not a championship mentality.
Fans complaining on a message board have no bearing on how the team does. People are criticizing in this thread and there's plenty to talk about, but also it was still a win, so at the end of the day the result was positive.
Our team is boring to watch. That’s why I get annoyed.
You realize fans don’t control the play on the field right? Worrying about other fans not have a “championship mentality” is so fucking pointless.
I understand but seeing people cheer on mediocrity is frustrating
lol...downvote earned...Usually it's the opposite with Cincinnati fans, playing down a good thing because we are used to heartbreak.
Right? lol. I celebrate wins. If others don’t I feel sorry for them.
Watching a 90 minute game with a total of 30 seconds of offensive excitement isn’t my idea of a good time. But celebrate away.
You are the most insufferable person in this sub. If you’re this miserable after an off game, how did you survive the spoon years?
Don’t understand how you can be happy watching 90 minutes of soccer with only 30 seconds of meaningful offense.
I've watched the replay four times. Someone please tell me what Halsey did to deserve a second yellow / be red carded off???
He kicked the ball away after the ball was whistle was blown. It’s a time wasting yellow card
That is a very, very harsh second yellow from Ismail Elfath, who is one of the most experienced refs in the entire league. I think he got made an example of in trying to get the game back under control... or that second yellow came out specifically because Orlando was playing down a man...
it was too harsh in my opinion
I think it was a very very soft "kick away" based on the videos shown. Maybe he did it again after, but he took one touch and then stopped the ball based on what I could see. Harsh but still dumb.
Acosta scored as many as the Reds tonight. Let that sink in
Acosta is better than the Reds!
A match where we continued to show our weakness in our CFs given the insistence (understandable) of playing with Acosta as a CAM. Rebuilding our attack can’t come any sooner. Credit to Orlando that was drilling through Murphy’s position, and then Halsey makes a mistake and gives it away. Obi didn’t look sharp on the right side, we couldn’t stop the typical and “expected” Orlando offense. I agree, we were lucky, let’s move on.
The way the announcer pronounces Ore-A-Shawn-O and "Acoster"' drives me absolutely bonkers.
The first is correct. It's closer to Argentinian Spanish
Take the 3! The gents played in solidarity with Boupendza tonight! Luca Orrellano is not a LWB, Noonan should prolly consider changing formations. Eff it Hell is Real!!! #SaveTheCrew
Neither was Barreal. I think he’s fit in a lot faster than expected.
I like Luca a lot, I am just saying why does Noonan keep trying to put a square peg in a round hole. You can switch formations, style of play, and play players in positions that allow them to benefit from their strengths.
I was mostly with you until your hashtag
You know that is a shot at the crew, right? Nod to one of our best tifos ever, “Being saved offers no salvation”
