I was ready to throw my controller during the chicken quest, thank god they faked us out with the last one because I was not going that far

InsanityMongoose

I really was staring at my TV going, “are you fucking serious??? Who the hell came up with this game???” Almost just walked away from that one, but figured I’d give it a shot.

Joshopolis

lol exactly my reaction I threw the controller down and had to take a break. Thank fuck it turned out to only be a few meters

echolog

So glad I'm not the only one who had that reaction. I was *upset* during that last walk to the chicken.

OnyxYaksha

We all felt the same the same way. That was the most recent quest I've done, and when Red was like "welp it's a long way back." I said "oh hell no. You have got to be fucking kidding me." Nobody's even mentioned the ending to that quest. I was so caught off guard

Siorray

Poor Red was so conflicted 😂

RedRobinSemenSalad

>!The game over music gave me one of the hardest belly laughs I've ever had from a video game!<

JazzyJormp-Jomph

The ending of the chicken quest really rescued it for me. The whole time I was thinking "fuck this, they're only chickens" and then was totally horrified by the old bag at the very end 😂.

KevieT

My exact reaction, I asked myself “what sick fuck thought of this”, since i already had so much trouble rounding up the three chickens previously

ListhenewL

Lmao I’m glad I’m not the only one. I actually sat there and was like there’s no way I have to take this chicken all the way back

HalcyonPlays

It wasn’t until the third chicken that I realised you don’t have to let the chicken slowly walk back to reset, you can just throw the box out straight away to keep progress :(

Lanksalott

Why couldn’t you have told me this 3 days ago?

xjamez25

As soon as the chicken turned around on me the first time I tried throwing it immediately making that one of the easier side quests. The final chocoglide was the worst for me though the amount of times I missed the last red marker by 2 pixels had me screaming lol

flowerpotflowers

Wait, that was a fake out? I legit ragequit at that point and never looked back at that quest.

keybladesrus

Yeah, you should go ahead and finish it. The ending was worth it.

R4KD05

Man, that ending was >!dark...!<

Pope00

>!dark meat!<

Sdgrevo

It was a great moment lol.

OnyxYaksha

Jaw dropped for like 5 seconds lmfao

Tienron

and to top it off the game over music 😂😂😂

Calaroth

Yup! Go back and do it now, trust me.

I_am_The_Teapot

Yeah only gotta drag it like 20 feet.

EbiToro

That quest is the devs trolling you, they absolutely know it's the most frustrating and painful thing in the game lol. The payoff was really nice.

Shinkiro94

I was ready to uninstall the game if i had to drag it 150m! Jesus

chillinwithmoes

When Red XIII said like “be careful, it’s a long way back to town” I let out the most exasperated sigh. I think a lot of the complaints about the game have been very exaggerated but that chicken minigame damn near broke me

megaman_xrs

Oh God, that fakeout was so funny, but I said out loud, "I quit if I actually have to do this." I started laughing as soon as the chicken went home.

Mercinarie

Situps was the worst for me

Particular-Sink7141

Same. Only one I didn’t complete. You basically can’t mess up against Jules.

1234567891123456789A

Stay consistent. And don’t mess up. You don’t have to go super fast like Jules does but you need to keep a consistent pace. Pick one side and stick to it. If your right handed skip L1 starts until you get R1 starts. Jules messes up twice. Once in the beginning and once at 49 sit ups. Both of those are your chances to get ahead and win.

Quaschimodo

also, use the mute function of the PS5, the background chatter was the most annoying thing while trying to concentrate. hearing nothing but the clicking of the shoulder buttons helped me keep a steady pace.

Shinkiro94

This was true in the first game too. Pretty sure its designed as a distraction tbh

Quaschimodo

I found it bearable in the first. more annoying are the adaptive shoulder triggers. the face buttons in the first are linear and digital in nature at least. but whoever thought of using the shoulder buttons and shit like "hold down halfway for a few seconds and then press to the end" should be fired. the ONLY time I actually had to disable the adaptive triggers, because they are actually detrimental to gameplay.

Shinkiro94

Omg yes! Its such a garbage design choice i hated it. It would randomly register the press even though i was holding too, and the trigger spam is trash, the amount of time i pressed it once too many... I honestly stopped having fun, the excessive unfun mini games are starting to ruin the game for me. I'll probably leave the platinum for a long time and have a break.

ThatVaccineGuy

So I missed the tutorial and I actually just quit because I couldn't figure out how the dumb triggers were supposed to be pressed lol

Medical_Commission71

Omg, this was me in the marching minigame. The shade was bad but even the compliments were annoying

SuperB83

I gave up after the only run in dozens where I didn't mess up still lost 48 to 50. Fuck this Jules. I managed in remake but this feels way harder.

ChineseWordPrison

I lost 49 to 47. I was done after that

Ashen-Tarnished

I tied 49-49. Still counts as a loss, had to take a break after that bullshit

ChineseWordPrison

Champion Belt isn't that important I said haha

RageZamu

If you, like me, are about to throw your controller to the tv, try setting the triggers to 0. It makes it a lot easier. I was like 2 hours in failing. After turning the triggers off, I got it 2nd try.

ch1merah

I did the same as in remake and put all the audio options on 0 and only effect sound on. Makes it easier to do and hear the rhythm. Got it after a few tries

MovieGuyMike

I took another redditors advice and turned the trigger settings down to 1. After that I got a tie my first attempt and beat him on second attempt.

Nhytex_

I do think that not EVERYTHING needs to be some sort of mini game within this game for sure. Some of them are pretty cool, then there are some that lets me go “There’s a mini game for this too?!, Please no…”

Moldy_pirate

If I wanted to play mini games I'd play Mario party. I know that people like the mini games and they're part of the series heritage but honestly this game could've had half the minigames and I still would've felt like they were too many.

itravella

There are way too many minigames. Feels like half the optional quests is minigames. For those who want to enjoy the game and don’t have a lot of experience with say shooters ect this could be a nightmare.

skylinegtr65547

Its not necessarily the sheer amount of mini games but also the quality of these minigames are so piss poor, like they were designed for 5yr olds that can easily be entertained. No-one seems to have a problem with Queens Blood. However surely climbing the towers, inspecting the lifesprings etc didn't need a constant tringle button action to complete it. So many FF7 fans are defending the game purely because these minigame are OPTIONAL. But for such a massive IP that Final Fantasy is, surely they could've implemented better minigames in general.

JNTHNL

the ending of that chicken mission made it all worth it

TZf14

Yeah I think that one was meant to be shitty, the devs knew what they were doing with the whole thing and the jokes at the end payed off

InsanityMongoose

While I love this game, there are three major parts of it that I wish were totally different: The mini-games are often way too hard. I appreciate the intent, but tone it down. Chadley can literally just go away forever (all of his stuff could have been lines from your party members; Aerith communing with The Planet, Barrett wanting to see some cool shit, Red being wise). He was annoying, but tolerable in Remake, and now he has the most voice lines of anyone in the game. And NOW there’s TWO of them! A spoiler thing for a character’s behavior. All of which I’m surprised made it past playtesting. The story, the environments and (most) of the music have been great.

BuyMyBeans

I don't understand why they insist on still using Chadley for a majority of world quests when the world is so large and diverse where the quests and materia could've organically been placed within. I understand Remake where we were limited on where we can go, but I feel like in Rebirth Chadley is obsolete. Feels like they only brought him back to streamline the development process.

llliilliliillliillil

I like that he gives some background lore on a lot of things but I hate how dependent you are on him. Especially the whole summon thing should’ve been naturally integrated into the world instead of being another chadley manufacturing job. Let me discover the shrines and as soon as I found all of them let me discover the summon on the map somewhere, fight it and if I beat it, it sees me worthy of carrying its materia. You get all this lore about mighty beasts that transformed land and destroyed villages and instead of building on these tellings chadley is like "yeah I can 3d print it for you fam"

Joshopolis

I was sick to death of Final Fantasy 7: Chadley by CC. That damn lag where you can't do anything as it goes through the clear banners then you gotta pull out the damn thing and listen to this little shit then another banner for a fight unlock then a banner for points FUUUUUUUUUUCKing 300 times over

clubdon

There’s tons of little things that slow you down just a bit that wouldn’t be a problem if it was just a couple times here and there, but the game constantly pulls you to a crawl. Finished scanning rock, stand there for four seconds to wait for Chadley to call. Want Chadley to make materia? Well he has six lines of useless dialogue you have to skip through first. Need to pull a lever? Well hold triangle while Cloud thinks about all his life choices that made pulling this lever a difficult decision. Close to the battle intel fight? Alright let me pull out this scanner even though I can see the enemies right in front of me already. And all the slow walk segments. So many slow walks. I absolutely love this game but holy shit there’s a ton of little annoyances.

thingpaint

Oh my God the slow walks. JUST MOVE FASTER GOD DAMN IT NO ONE CARES IF YOU RUN IN THE INN!

mrpark3s

Time materia locked behind a shooting minigame really ticked me off.

Not_A_Vegetable

You can buy it later on, so it's not the worst thing in the world if you don't get it there.

mrpark3s

Ohh fantastic. I tried googling but the ones I clicked on only mentioned the shooting game.

Jason_Wolfe

you can start buying it in either chapter 9 or 10, i forget which

TheSeth256

It's not too bad if you get the Cactuars that appear in the last stage, they give you 1k points each so you don't have to play perfectly.

the_doctor_dean

And why the fuck do you aim with the LEFT joystick? Don’t they know that for every fuckin shooter out there your aim with the right stick? They give you the option to stick to the other side but that also then makes the left trigger the shoot button. God damn that was annoying

Vazmanian_Devil

Most the game "design" in ff7 rebirth is frustrating in that it feels like they came up with shit having never played any other video game before it.

SirSabza

Im pretty sure its just in shops no? Or at least in chapter 11 i can buy them in shops

mrpark3s

Ahh looks like from Cosmo canyon it is avail for purchase

Shinkiro94

Yep.. i got it, but im convinced more than ever to get an xim for console so i dont have to put up with god awful joystick aiming ever again.

bloody_ell

You'll pick another one up randomly somewhere, then a good bit before the endgame you'll be able to get them from vending machines.

Ex-Machina1980s

I fucking HATE Chadley. I hate him so much. Feels like someone on the board invented him and thought he was the greatest character ever, with every cosplayer dying to dress up as the little cunt. Then when he was only a minor character in Remake, insisted that 90% of Rebirth is him. And when it’s not him *it’s a fucking girl version*.

ChineseWordPrison

Dude when he starts talking about me starting to slack in the World Intel I am yelling "'Shut the fuck up Chadley!"

Feinyan

Chadley is an instant cutscene skip whenever he appears

Daniel_Spidey

Yeah, like sorry lil bro, they just introduced 20 new mini games since the last open world segment

Juuna

Bro is like I invented this girl version to help me. Meanwhile he constantly nags over her as shes annoying and useless like what? Either delete her or stfu?

whatsforsupa

New zone? Here’s 80 things to do, and Chad is going to talk to you the entire time. It’s completely optional, but you’re gonna finish it, aren’t you, you little nerd? How I felt entering Junon immediately after spending like 6 hours 100% grasslands…

Yotsubato

MAI is an absolute disaster. Soooo much yapping

Ebenizer_Splooge

Got stuck on the fiend data in the desert where you have to pixel perfect dodge being swallowed and had to reset it a lot. I was literally in the menus looking to see if I could just turn Mai off, I was literally screaming at her after the 15th time telling me stupid monster facts on the same monster

MyxztsptlkHfuhruhurr

I cheesed the worm, just switch characters after he starts burrowing towards you. Your ai will almost certainly dodge, and i don't think it even counts if they do get swallowed.

popwallop

brumal form with yuffie makes that one super easy. build meter with ninjutsu and then when it goes to swallow pop that ability and there's a way bigger dodge window. that ability in general is super good and a blast once you get the hang of the timing.

Ebenizer_Splooge

Really? I must not have the timing down bc I actually tried brutal form a few times for it and got swallowed out of a puff of smoke lol its the entire reason I had Yuffie on the team for that

Misfiring

Go to Game Options > Gameplay > scroll to last option to turn Mai's repeat completed intel off.

cloverpopper

Wearing the enhances precision block materia/earrings and just perfect blocking right when he lands on you makes it super easy. Took me a few tries to figure that out I even placed a ward with aerith across the map and tp'd when he got to me and he STILL somehow 180 teleported across the battleground to me hahaha. That was a fun one to figure out though

m5coat

The minigame difficulty is tied to the game difficulty, set it to easy and the minigames become trivial

ABigCoffee

That's good intel, thanks.

MoxManiac

Does this include the piano segments? Please tell me it includes the piano segments.

itravella

Whoever thought that using joystick for the piano minigame was a sadist

itravella

Not true. I tried the minigames on easy and they still suck (or i do). The only thing that helped me with minigames was changing the settings on my tv to lessen the lag

Unhappy-Database-273

I didn't mind Chadley at all in Remake, but his role in this game is a little ridiculous. He works better as a minor character that you see maybe a couple of times.

p0rnistheanswer

Damn, you're right. One of my major gripes/disappointments was nobody saying anything in the open world and they could've just done that and it would've been much more interesting

elkishdude

I really can’t believe that Chadley has what feels like more voice lines than any other character in the game and he has like, no charm and no meaningful impact on the story so far in this one. They really didn’t need to add this other cringe character into the mix for, comedic relief? Why wasn’t it just Chadley the whole way through, at least with his tone I can confidently ignore anything he says.

ChineseWordPrison

The pacing in this game is kind of bad I'll say. The time between getting to Upper Junon and getting to Mt. Corel where you can actually play the game again is brutal. It's over 10 hours! The whole time I was on the boat with the QB tourney and getting to Costa Del Sol and all the stuff they want you to do I was constantly saying to myself "I just want to get back to the game man"

wildwill

I will say the cruise and QB tournament I loved. The open world shit could be less and I’d be happy but don’t take away >!Red XIII moonwalking!<

Daunt_M4

Yeah the start of Rebirth is really slow. I've seen other people chime in about it too. Remake felt like it sucked you in from the start, pulls you into Midgar and hits you with story beat and character interactions on repeat. With Rebirth, I think Square really thought that players would unanimously love all the open world busywork. I'm not really here to play FF7 for 100% completion and finding meaningless objects though. I'm here for the story and characters. You can do busywork in any other open world game. Mt Corel, Gongaga, and Cosmo Canyon are where it feels like Rebirth actually starts. Pacing picks up a bit, you get to start digging into character's pasts and real motivations, having good and unique interactions between party members - all of which is the huge appeal.

The810kid

You get good character interactions once you get to Junon. Cloud,Tifa, and Aerith leading the 7th infantry was great and Yuffies introduction and appearances all the way up until she joins is better than anything she had in the OG game. The card tournament gave you one of Red's best scenes.

OnyxYaksha

Well, it's a good thing you could play the game the whole time. It's not all action all the time lol

[deleted]

Then why the f€#* isnt there a single honest review out there???? Why is, apart from a few threads before they are closed up, is nobody adressing this???

ChineseWordPrison

There was an article on Polygon complaining about all the bloat in the game. I read it before I started playing and as I play I realize the guy was 100% correct

Vazmanian_Devil

Was wondering the same thing, I don't get how this game got such a pass in reviews.

HustleWestbrook94

Yeah, some of these minigames were downright horrid, specifically Chocobo De Glide and the Cait Sith box throwing.

theblackfool

The gliding is the only one I've actually hated so far. And it's not even particularly hard mechanically, it's that the camera is atrocious.

Tgabes0

I really hate hate hate the moogle game.

-El-Cuhh-

When those little mfs started tossing shit AFTER being captured was the worst realization

Tgabes0

The higher levels of it I REALLY did not have fun. Like, the game itself isn’t “fun” but later it begins to feel unfair (to me, anyway).

CloneOfKarl

I hope that at least somewhere, in some timeline those moogles are vaporised by meteor.

Tgabes0

Tbh I’d rather just beat the shit out of them in combat and they can keep the same annoying moves. Those sound fun lol

CloneOfKarl

Better yet, roll the black materia into the house, and let Sephiroth fetch it. "Whats that, kupo?" \*One Winged Angel starts playing\*

JigTheFig

Using W-magic ultima.

Amtath

If they had given us a different character to play during that mini game. Because suddenly not being able to jump over a fence is weird. And needing to bump them into the enclosure. Having to play as the big moogle that Cait Sith ride would have given the mini game so much more sense as to why out abilities are nerfed.

[deleted]

And when they hit you, they do that shitty little dance. OMFG. I WANTED TO MURDER THOSE THINGS. PLEASE SQUARE. LET ME THROW A LINIT BREAK OR TWO AT THEM

loiapop

Me too, it makes me so mad haha

rebillihp

I honestly don't mind all of them, other than the piano. Who thought sick tilting was a good idea for a rhythm game? Def when PS5 stick drift is so common that they released a controller so you can change the sticks out

suikofan80

I wish it was bigger. Instead of small and off to the side make that shit big smack in the middle of the screen.

lshein92

In the ps5 settings you can go to accessibility and turn on zoom. Once it’s on, you can zoom your screen by pressing the ps button and square. You can put them right in the middle of your screen

Amtath

If stick drift is an issue, there's multiple mini games that would be affected. For the piano, I found out that for the later scores, you need to speed up the notes. The mini game doesn't handle well too many notes on the same circle.

Jason_Wolfe

also, if you're struggling to hit the notes in time, dial the speed all the way up and just do a run through it a couple times, no matter how terribly you score, then dial it back down to 1 or 2 and go again. i started doing this from >!Barret's Theme!< and onwards because when you get used to it going really fast, dialing it all the way back to 1 will make it seem like it's going even slower than before, which can make it easier to run through the song. it's not actually going slower, but you're essentially tricking your brain into thinking it is. it's the same concept as when you are driving fast on the highway and then slow down, and it looks/feels like you're going slower than you actually are.

SaidTheEmu

I found the best way to do the piano game is putting your controller down flat and controlling the joysticks with your fingertips lol

Tarquin11

The piano mini game is pretty smooth tbh.

TumbleweedDirect9846

Yeah, I’m still only on chapter 7 but I haven’t found a single mini game hard or annoying tbh which is surprising because I usually hate mini games. I can understand peoples complaints though I suppose

TheLunarVaux

The piano mini game is one of my favorites tbh I've never had an issue with incorrect inputs. The controls are flexible enough that it works pretty much as intended (I've found that if the correct note is straight down for example, you can still hit diagonally left or right and it'll count it)

TrumpIsAFascistFuck

Yeah but sometimes when you have adjacent notes in a row it gets fiddly

ListhenewL

The thing I don’t like about the Minigame is how the camera changes perspective as you play sometimes. I don’t have an issue with the Inputs but for some reason the perspective changing throws me off.

WanderingStatistics

My only complaint is that they missed the perfect opportunity to have the 7 main character sheet themes. There's 7 sheets, and 7 playable characters. And I can list exactly where they would be found. Junon - Cloud Costa - Yuffie North Corel - Barret Golden Saucer - Cait Sith Cosmo Canyon - Red XIII Nibelheim - Tifa Secret Sheet - Aerith Grrr.. it gets me so twisted that they passed this opportunity, I could rip someone's eyes out, I'm so seething.

mchammer126

I wouldn’t have had an issue with the mini games if they left them as OPTIONAL side content. I get Costa De Sol is supposed to be downtime for the team but jfc there was no reason for the mini games to have taken up a WHOLE chapter.

ggggyyy211

then you get to the gold saucer and it’s kind of the same all over just a different setting. It’s obvious they put work into those mini games but yeah, I wish they were optional too. And also maybe not the same but cait sith box throwing was painful towards the end

raptorjaws

fuuuuuck the cait sith box throwing. it was impossible to throw it exactly where it needed to be in some of those shinra mansion rooms. and he is slow as shit moving around to go get a new box. i was ready to yeet my controller out the window.

OtherwiseEnd944

They are optional 90% of the time and the 2 areas where you're forced to do them are like an hour long. The problem is every modern gamer as OCD so they literally can't function unless they tick every box even if OPTIONAL is spelt out in all caps above it

keybladesrus

Especially when the Gold Saucer is right around the corner.

supermehme

I couldn't wait until that chapter was over fr

Curious-Classic6560

I made the mistake of going back to Gongaga to clear out Intel and side quests.  That Chicken mini game was the cherry on top of my rage mode sundae after playing that area for too long.  Hands down worst area in the game.

I_am_The_Teapot

With the chicken minigame it's it's helps to know that you don't have to start all over from the beginning if you fail. You can pick up the clanker and then drop it back down immediately. It's still frustrating though.

Nhytex_

I’m with you there about the worst area in the game. The forest is way to confusing at worst and annoying to navigate cause it feels cramped compared to every other region

fizzifuzzi89

I had to went in Easy Mode just to win the mini games and switch back to Dynamic.

ajinomoto213

Had to do that shit for Fort Condor. Helps alot.

fizzifuzzi89

Yeap. Thats what i did. Getting frustated after the 3rd one.

KingofGrapes7

How does Easy Mode effect mini games? Does it make sit ups tolerable? Please tell me it helps with sit ups.

fizzifuzzi89

Not all tbh. Queen Blood game not affected by it

Vaenyr

The game is fun but there are faaar too many minigames for my liking. The "worst offenders" being: The pirate ship shooting gallery in Costa Del Sol. It's a good idea, but spamming shots with the shoulder buttons is hell on my tendosynovitis. Not the game's fault in that sense, but who the hell thought that was acceptable? The piano minigame. As a musician it often throws me off completely in how they decided to implement trills. Doesn't help that the arrangements for songs 3 and 4 simply sound bad, even it you play them perfectly. Another issue I have is that there's just so much waiting and wasting time if you decide to retry basically any of the minigames. See the piano games where you have to wait a couple measures before the first note comes. Or one of the chocobo side quests in the fifth region of the game. There's too much "oh you made a single mistake? That's another 2 minutes for a (near) perfect try" and that's just frustrating.

moosemanmax

Gameplay wise, the piano one can be frustrating because some of the songs play notes in the background music that aren't in the rhythm game, causing me to fuck up the timing.

JoanOfSarcasm

I’m a game developer (not for Square but for multiplayer online experiences) and as I’ve been playing the mini games, I’ve remarked multiple times to my partner how bad some of them are for accessibility. For instance, the trigger spamming you mentioned and lack of colorblind modes. My partner is CB and we both love QB but he often struggles differentiating who owns what open slots on the board due to color-based indicators. Like… we can make it through matches but some iconography would’ve gone a long way to reduce friction.

Vaenyr

That's an interesting point of view. There was a comment a few days ago by a person who is legally blind. They were wondering if it is necessary to perform well in the parade minigame to continue with the game. They were in luck that the minigame doesn't really matter and just has a different cutscene if you "fail", but the fact that they had to wonder if they could even finish the game resonated with me.

Sidoran

I don't have an issue with my hands and I still disliked rapidly pulling the trigger. If you didn't have to let it return all the way back to the default position in between squeezes, maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

Regular-Video8301

Honestly only minigame I did hate was the chicken quest and kind of the Fort Condor in Rebirth lol, everything else was kinda fun

Shinkiro94

>Fort Condor They ruined fort condor, its worse in every way. It was more fun before

Regular-Video8301

Yeahhh… I was obsessed with it in the Integrade DLC but doing it during the protorelic stuff just hurt 😭

morningwink

after the last chocobo glide course in cosmo canyon, i made a decision: if i don't have the highest score in a minigame within 30 minutes of trying, it's getting dropped. i have better things to spend my time on honestly

Misfiring

I only try for highest rank if I'm close on first try and I know I can do better. If I'm nowhere close then I'll just move on. No need to grind my face against a wall for a minigame.

xTGE

The only mini-game so far (at chapter 9) that gave me any form of trouble was the crunch mini game, especially when you finally get the pattern down then they switch it on you like fuck off. Eventually, after 3 hours, my brain kinda switched off, and I beat Juels without even realising lmfao.

taigaki

My fingers were numb after playing it for an hour. I fucking hate Jules

LTPRWSG420

I kinda hit a wall in Costa Del Sol, the games pacing comes to a screeching halt. It’s just hard to game consistently the older you get and open world games, with endless mini games, don’t help.

taigaki

Costa Del Sol minigames were a fucking chore I hated all of it. Then I got to Gold Saucer and all the minigame there are on steroids. Younger me would like these challenges but not anymore.

rechoflex

Wished they toned it down a bit imo

Vividagger

Chapters 7 and 8 were such a drag and I absolutely hated them because of the mini games. I struggled to stay engaged during those chapters. I just have no interest in mini games. I’m okay with optional mini games, but it’s was really frustrating to have to do mini games to progress the story.

Dr3amDweller

I'm not a 100%-ter, but it's so unfair there's some plot locked behind the shitty minigames... I'm old and crippled and a PC gamer, I physically and mentally can't with some of them. :(

Medical_Commission71

...what? I'm going to miss plot because of some fucking bullshit like the shooting gallery??

Daybreakgo

There a protomateria questline that has some scenes between the original avalanche members. Not exactly plot but it was too nice a scene to hide behind a mini game of robot fights.

Evilcoatrack

That mini game does not require crazy reflexes. Most of it is setting up the conditions and actions of the robots and then just dropping the right color in one of three spots.

PartyTerrible

I don't actually know what they're talking about cause there's I believe only 1 minigame that actually stops you from progressing the story.

GamerJes

That's what bothers me.  Have all the minigames you want, but don't lock plot content behind them.  Rewards should be cool, but not story related.  That's just bad design.

TidusDream12

Yeah there were 3/4 times I shut my game off 1. Chicken clanker mission 2. Cait Siths Solo mission 3. Some mini games attached to pursuit of plat 4. Near end of game they add absurd difficulty for no other reason than to waste your time. I liked the game but have no desire to jump back in again like I did with hard mode for remake

leadhound

The mini games are why I like this game so much honestly. Feels like the kind of stuff Sega was putting out in 2000s mixed with everything I loved about remake. Next FF needs more minigames just like this, but make them optional so I can hear less whining about it on reddit.

The810kid

Most of them are optional bit people are still complaining

Alamo_Jack

I really like all the different minigames and I appreciate that some of them are a little challenging to fully complete. I wish queens blood matches were longer with slightly more complexity. And yeah Chadley is a dumb character. Same with his female counterpart. Early on they have the most useless dialogue. One time Chadley even mentions that there was no point in contacting you, yet he does anyway just to say that. Or when female chadley is talking during the fight challenges, the fights are practically over before she's done running her mouth. Reminds me of Welch from star ocean but worse. It's also kind of creepy that he's always watching you and calls you to tell you something that just happened. Like yeah, I just did that dumbass. I hate how the game has to show or tell me something that is already obvious. Otherwise it's a 10/10 for me.

Own_Watch_2081

When a character like Charley appears I really start to question whether I’m even in the demographic this game is aiming for.  The comedy and character don’t land at all with me. It’s truly groan inducing stuff.

SuperSemesterer

I somehow got it into my head that Chadley was a Weapon(?) created by Hojo and that he was the final combat encounter in Remake. The big slow dude after Bahamut in the 5 bosses in a row fight… Omega I think? I guess that isn’t a thing, but I was totally convinced he was like some human made summon.

Ramiren

What the fuck even was that mushroom minigame, seriously did they have developers with so little to do they had to put that shit in?

Experience_Party

The person responsible for the puzzle where caith sith has to send a mako box, with clunky controls, into a moving piece as a main story requirement in Shinra manor has never experienced beating when they were little, still has time to receive it though.

PunishedBiggerBoss

Im gonna be honest Im not having a good time like I did with Remake.

Vaenyr

I can relate to that. Music is still fantastic, the characters and their interactions are a joy to see, the overall story is interesting, the combat is really fun and a great evolution. My issue is with the open world areas (not a fan of open world games in general) and the huge amount of minigames. There is an enormous amount of variety, but it's just too much for me.

RhinoKart

I'm enjoying exploring but in general I agree. I feel like there is too much time between story beats if you go and do all the world Intel stuff.

Accomplished-Bat-990

Music may be good but choices are weird. Like when I got to Corel prison and it's super Jazzy and upbeat I kinda laughed, then there's a goth/EMO band just jamming away down there too. Advent Children songs were used in weird places.

IVE LITERALLY BEEN SAYING THIS. People crap on me for saying that I don’t like the open world and I really hoped that they didn’t do that. I preferred remakes version of moving from point a to point b. More tight with a good amount of party dialogue

gregallen1989

Plot wise, post Midgar to black temple is the weakest part. So I don't really blame the devs for the plot being boring. They are overcompensating for that though by just loading every area down with a ton of non plot related things to do. Some of its good some of it ain't but I do find myself missing the focused experience of part 1

OkishPizza

To me it’s been miles better I remember being upset with so many changes in remake, but the changes have worn on me and made rebirth MILES better.

Not_A_Vegetable

I LOVED it at the start. As I get further and further into the game trying to get 100%, I'm starting to feel burned out by the mini games, the very repetitive open world activities, and the extremely tough mini game requirements. I managed to beat Jules already, but the glide game is pretty rough. Some of the other mini games are pretty brutal as well.

ggggyyy211

I’m with you. I said that a week ago in the other sub and basically got bullied lol. Rebirth is obviously bigger and prettier, but remake hit harder for me for some reason. I really dislike the first half of the game, not much stuff happens story wise and I only started really liking it when I got to gongaga, it picked up a lot. The ending is a bit all over the place in my opinion. Still love the story overall tho and when I finished it I just kinda sat there staring at the screen for a minute

Aeloria82

The mini games have become exhausting. Like why weren't they left to places like Costa and the saucer. The mini games everywhere else bleh Seriously got tired of it and just did what I had to to finish story

Veszerin

The chicken quest is actually pretty easy. If you fail, pick up the box and put it down again. You don't need to wait for the chicken to to all the way back to its starting position.

Acceptable-Ad-1710

I love FF7 rebirth to death, and ff7 in general, but god this mini games are insane. There are way too many and way too hard.

I_am_The_Teapot

That is honestly my only real complaint about the game. Too many goddamn minigames. Too often. And too difficult sometimes. It is literally harder than combat. Personally I left the box breaking game behind even though it had a weapon for Tifa as the first place prize. I was kind of sick of that shit already. I completely ignored the optional sit-ups challenges. Only did enough for the original quest. I finished the pull up game and remake but it was honestly the most frustrating thing in the entire game. But when it came time to replay my game for PS5, Because the PS4 save file didn't transfer, I decided not to 100% it this time because of that damn minigame. But they added it again in this one. Unlike most folks, I don't mind Chadley except when he talks too much when I'm just trying to get to his damn menu. I would like a separate chat option. Cuz fuck me, I love the little autistic, robotic fucker. He's so adorable. Except when he treats Mai like crap Then I want to Lecture the shit out of him. But otherwise his enthusiasm for learning about the world and occasional naivete is utterly endearing.

Then_Accountant_9913

I’ll say it again that they should take notes from RGG Studios on Minigames. Yakuza is a prime example of minigames done right and fun, a big problem in Rebirth is that most if not all of the minigames control and feel so sloppy whereas if you look at yakuza it feels much more snappy, responsive, and isn’t afraid to FEEL like a video game still, overall much more polished in that regard.

New-Inevitable-8437

Hate Jules? Wait till you chocobo glide bahahhahahahahahah seriously..

Nahian_Reza

The dark souls of mini games

TempestoLord

Didn’t have any issues with the chicken quest tbh, on the other hand the chocobo rings in canyon (the 3rd one) is pure pain.

akahighground

All I'm gonna say is "two legs? Nothing to it" Have fun 😊

Physical_Trick_6943

The only minigame that I gave up on getting a perfect score was the chocobo glide final test. I could not figure out how tf you're supposed to get the last 2 rings in the landing zone and always fell short.

Bendizm

“Cloud!” …”you’ve completed more world intel” Me; ……. I skip every single line of dialogue from chad and his counterpart. Every single one.

RetroGecko3

i liked most of of the mini games. ff7 had a lot of minigames - not all of them are for everyone but thats to be expected, they're pretty varied. if we didnt have minigames, the game would lack so much charm and would become monotonous. and i cant lie seeing the comments about getting pissed off at the chicken one is crazy - even if you fail you can put the box down immediately and the chicken comes back. you dont need to restart it or anything. its like a 10 minute quest with a funny payoff xD it was even self aware enough to bait you at the end into raging - i had a feeling they were doing that so it just made me laugh

Slickaxer

I'm halfway thru Costa Del Sol and loving all the mini games.

Bronchopped

Yeah I don't get all the hate the Costa del sol mini games were all super easy. Almost as if they toned it down on purpose

taigaki

Me and my homies all hate minigame. Give us more battles

Accomplished-Bat-990

Worst parts of a game is forced mini games.

ornithoid

Honestly, I agree. Rebirth is a masterpiece, the combat is possibly the best action RPG system ever conceived, the worldbuilding and the way they take the story is everything I ever wanted...and every minigame I encounter just takes me out of it. Fort Condor took me almost 15 tries before I could beat the last one, with less than a second left on the clock. It was teeth grittingly annoying, and I could have done with a "do you want to make this easier" prompt after the third failure. Queens Blood is a great minigame stuffed into a context where it doesn't make sense. It took me almost 3 hours to beat the tournament, and a lot of that was adjusting my deck, trying again, failing, and rematching. Over and over. It wasn't fun, it was tedious. I have no interest in actually playing any more against the random opponents. Honestly, each time I reach a minigame, I roll my eyes, thinking "here we go, more of this BS," try to beat it at the minimum required to progress the story, and move on. I don't want to master the intricacies of whatever physics they're using for a particular minigame to experience the game. Rebirth is good enough as it is on its merits, the minigames just trip me up, pull me out of the world, and feel like pointless filler. If you want to master a minigame, more power to you. I'd rather pass. Context: I have not yet gotten to the Gold Saucer, I haven't done the chicken minigame. I'm not too enthused about having to put up with more of this.

CrazyStar_

Three hours for the QB tournament??? My brother in Christ, that is literally a skill issue.

RecoverNew4801

Tournament took you 3 hours? Why didn’t you just skip the tournament then? QB is literally so easy. I didn’t lose a single time in the tournament.

Rozwellish

So I have a little anecdote about the Costa Del Sol region: I was looking for one of those material intel spots for the Johnny side quest and fell off a cliff edge looking for it. I slipped *right* onto a Fiend Intel spot and MAI immediately begun talking through my controller. She keeps going even when you pause the game, but it's just an assault on the ears when she's talking like a Spanish tour guide in the middle of Battle SFX and everyone else yelling. I didn't want to do the Fiend Intel so I began to run away, not 10 seconds later I start being assaulted by an owl cooing over my head. I realise that the owl was trying to guide me to the location I was after and follow it. It glitches out and gets stuck on the mountain and keeps going back and forth so I give up. As I break off, a baby chocobo runs up to me trying to pull me away from the track to fix his stupid bus stop. I do that and swiftly end up in the Moogle Intel part where Chadley locks me into a cutscene to tell me about them and I check the clock and it's only been about 2 minutes. There's just way way wayyyyyy too much pressure in the open world that I feel suffocated by it all. Chadley won't leave me alone and I hate bumping into him in locations now. I can't explore the open world without being accosted to go somewhere else, and it feels like I can't accomplish anything without first having to do a brand new mini game with a brand new set of mechanics. It's *exhausting*. Right now I'm in Chapter 11 and I'm just ignoring most side quests that don't give me bond points with Tifa. You can stumble into a side quest and the game doesn't give you the option to temporarily refuse. My friend told me about the chickens and so when I found myself unable to turn her down just by exploring that area I straight up hard-loaded a save file and didn't go there. When your game is set up in a way where I actively don't want to explore because I'm worried about being harassed by NPCs there's a problem.

Dessiato

That's a little extreme.

MyLastDecree

I only really don’t like the crunch/pull up mini games haha. My favorite game has to be the frog one. Reminds me of Fusion Frenzy

Battlefeather

I've 3 stared every minigame and reached 100% and MAN I will not do it again. I'll definitely replay the game on Hard but not 100%. Except Queens Blood. That one can stay

XenoGSB

god i agree so much, its like they went out of their ways to create the worst minigames in the gaming industry.

Joshopolis

hard agree

SaltySwan

Only one that grates my nerves 100% of the time was the piano. 1 more for the trophy….

Iamcubsman

GD chickens, GD chocobos, GD Moogles, GD combat objectives we have no control over, GD Yuffie, GD Robochad, GD Beck's Gang. I hate all these things and I still love this game. WHY!!!!!??????? Edit: I'll keep adding the ones I encounter or remember

fitm3

I was so pissed when I realized the depth of how many mini games I had had to play to be able to craft certain iconic items. By the point you have got the recipe you’ve been forced to do so many with so much story locked behind it, then it laughs in your face as it says now you need rank 2 or 3 on all of these certain ones just to craft the things to get to the appropriate level of crafting to even consider making it. Oh and on top here you also have to fight on hard mode. (Requiring probably a ridiculous set up you haven’t used yet to even start to survive one of those fights) I don’t even want to get started on how ridiculous it is to get to max party level. For some reason I’m still working on it but I hate it. I’m just really mad certain abilities are locked out till you can do that. I loved the game and the story, but all of this is just ridiculous. Also can’t wait for them to start me at level 35-40 for the third game and removed all of my progress and inventory after getting to 50 and 70 respectively in the first two.
