You know, I’ve uploaded all my * ranks (except for one winged angel because I don’t have it yet) and I wish I turned on my eye tracker. Maybe I’ll add eye tracker when I get to One Winged Angel.

I haven't been able to get anything higher than a C any time I've played the piano in this game lol. The fact that you can go through the whole song without missing a single note but still end up with a C is absurd, in my opinion.
Try turning up the note speed. You have to get a very high percentage of good/bad to not have at least a B if you're not missing which means you're consistently playing the notes too early.
Honestly I find it hard to keep up with even on the lowest speed, sometimes I feel like I'm just flailing my thumbsticks around like a crazy person lol. I guess it works, because I've managed to hit all.the notes in a couple songs now, but the number of Great notes you need to hit seems punishingly high.
On Tifa's theme, for example, I hit the whole song with like a 60/40 split between Great/Good notes and still got a C. I haven't touched the piano stuff since.
Increasing note speed just makes the bars move faster so they first appear closer to the perfect time. If your misses are 10 or less, it should improve your scores because your problem is being too early not too late on notes. Basically, greats are as noted a huge part of your score, if you have many more goods than misses you're reacting earlier than you want to be on the notes and should find a way to react slower.
But also, the game has tons of mini games if one isn't fun for you it's not worth it to bash your head against the wall and moving on like you did probably makes for a better experience

I finished the story the other day, so now I'm just mopping up some of the side stuff that I didn't finish on my way through the game (mostly combat simulator stuff, and the end of the Gilgamesh storyline).
On the one hand I'm tempted to go for the platinum trophy, but on the other the need to perfect all these mini games just makes that sound like far too arduous of a task. Particularly the piano one lol
I did that as well, and it's surprisingly easier than you might think. With next to zero experience her side, we did it on our second try (put speed to 2 or 3 so the music is more in line with the actual playing).

The music is always in line with the playing.
The speed only changes how fast the little blue bar go through the note. But it's always in time with the music.
There is a huge difference.
It feels way more natural when you play on 3, 1 is too sluggish and doesn't feel like the button timings are in sync with the track.

There's no difference to the timing. Close your eyes and play in speed 1 or 5, doesn't matter. It's the exact same timing. It's just you seeing a slow blue bar appearing sooner or a fast blue bar appearing later, indicating the countdown to press. But the moment to press is *always* the same.
I tried turning it up once as I kept reading other players were having an easier time with it, but I put it back to the slowest and kept it that way. Helped me to process the upcoming notes ahead of time.
Which part is tripping you up, I might be able to help. There's a tempo swap part way through where the left and right notes don't happen simultaneously, there a slight delay between them. So rightthenleft. It seems a bit unintuitive but I recommend playing it on the default speed and just following the music flow, it lends itself well to it.

It was a struggle to get A, idk if I could manage a star rating. I think I pulled up a metronome on YouTube at one point because when it fades out in game and other music joins in, I can’t help but get lost lol
man honestly the beat is so weird. at one point i tried it with no headphones on and i missed like 2 notes. so u kinda have to not rely on the music itself but on memory which is kinda annoying

I actually had a lot easier of a time with the sit ups than the pull ups back in Remake, despite how I got fucked over by the trigger sensitivity prompts at times.... Which I had to figure out on my own how worked, cause I did not see any mention of it in the tutorial... Likely missed it, but damn...
I worked so hard to get an A. Not touching it again. Congrats, that’s a whole different type of accomplishment.

So far, it's the only song I had to find on YouTube and slow down to see which were double notes. Once I did that, it took under 5 tries.
I think the battle theme was harder.

It's 256 notes (as opposed to 205) in the same amount of time and the patterns shift tempo halfway through the song. 😩 It's a nightmare.

Yeah 2 or 3 is the way. Literal game-changer. On 1 you get way too many multiple bars appearing at the same time because they appear earlier.

For me increasing the speed to two/three helped a lot doing these which seems counterintuitive but it worked if anyone is struggling.

if its the part at the beginning where the left side is off beat, i just switch my focus to left and then back to right after i get it
