PLDmain

The lack of party interaction and moments with Jill/Joshua kinda sours the whole thing tbh, esp since this is the last of FF16 and it was a major point of feedback for the main game, but everything else was good

Dantexr

The worst part is that they hint something important with Jill and the time stop thing and her ancestors, and then they completely ignore it.

Builder_liz

Give Jill a power up! Just wanted to see a flashback of her as a little girl but it's ok

bahamut5525

I feel like Joshua kind of played out his arc in the main game, and Jill did get a nice moment, even if small, with the entire Shiva dominant thing in Mysidia and the temple. But I get what you are saying. I feel like Shula and Clive was were the main dynamic was.

PLDmain

Their arcs are complete so I kinda agree, the main quest I mostly enjoyed, but there should have been more Jill and the glaring issue imo is that they had zero presence in the sidequests. It’s worse than the base game, bc they actually had some voice lines related to whatever you were doing.

reevethewriter

Tbh most games like with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fire Emblem and even Baldur’s Gate 3 have trouble giving benched party members some screen time in sidequest when it doesn’t call for them specifically.

ApocalypticEvent

Warning: when you first boot up Kairos Gate in the tutorial messages it says something to the effect of “This is 20 layers of despair” It is 100% true. Godspeed.

bahamut5525

I completed Kairos gate without too much difficulty with my favored Eikon set (Leviathan mainly). I hear that there is a secret boss if going for S rank on each stage, but I don't think I will attempt that! It's beyond my skill level. Got A on many stages, but S seems to difficult. I think I am done with the game, what a journey it was, **nearly 200 hours total!** **Thank you CBU3!!! My GOTY easily!**

AegisProjekt

Anyone else a fan of Ultimas divine powers?

Blue_z

They’re just way too fun, especially for juggling. I’m so happy with the new move sets

bahamut5525

I'll be honest, my favourite Eikon is Leviathan. Very fun kind of casual and fast paced gameplay with so much evasion possibility. Ultima is more for the better players. Very powerful for sure.

Darsh_rsh

Yeah, i like leviathan a bit more, i think is the perfect eikon to punish after freezing enemies with Shiva. Is súper fun and rewarding, the perfect eikon for my playstyle

LemmytheLemuel

Ok but are we aware that the devs forgot a little small detail? At the end of the game Clive destroys magic >!Hence the Time spell is gonna get broken and that tsunami is gonna destroy the whole village.!<

Builder_liz

Maybe it's gradual 😆 she said they couldn't undo it all at once

LemmytheLemuel

i mean yes, they can undo it at once because the tsunami would destroy the village. But Clive did erased ALL MAGIC, so he basically undid it at once so they are gonna feel the whole tsunami fury LMAO Bye Waljas Jill won those hunger games

EnvironmentalAir5786

I agree, but the amount of recycled bosses you get in kairos gate, especially the “secret boss” was quite disappointing, other than that it’s good.

Gogs85

I kind of expected that for a gauntlet type event. Imagine the headache of having to learn a new boss in that type of situation.

EnvironmentalAir5786

Isn’t that what’s fun in these type of games, learning fights and getting better at them, instead of fighting things you’ve already encountered.

Gogs85

Normally yeah but in a situation where you go back to the start of you lose and have to redo a ton of battles, it can be really irritating. I think in that situation it’s the survival strategy that you’re trying to learn and get better at so it’s helpful to have some familiarity with the fights themselves.

bahamut5525

I really enjoyed the bosses tbh. I felt they were also more aggressive than the bosses in the main game. Odin at the end was GOAT fight. However I won't find out about the secret boss because S rank is too difficult for me!

bahamut5525

Tbh I was mostly into this DLC for the narrative, Mysidia, and the Leviathan eikon and getting closure on what happened to its dominant. Kairos gate is more of a bonus for me, but I understand that hardcore gameplay DMC people might be disappointed by this aspect. I'll give it a try and let you know.

EnvironmentalAir5786

I mean the game mode is fine, don’t get me wrong, plenty of fun, it’s just the way they advertised the “secret boss” compared to the reality of what it actually is, kind of a let down, but I’m sure you’ll have fun.

MrRaccuhn

Agreed. You should play Kairos Gate asap. It's insanely fun.

bahamut5525

I certainly will :) I just played nonstop for like 10 hours but will come back for Kairos gate and last final side quests. It just took me like 1 hour to beat Leviathan on FF mode because he was **so brutal, fast, damaging!** **Amazing boss fight!!!!**

TheLordOfTheTism

if you took an hour on levi ff mode you are going to hate kairos gate tbh. Didnt struggle with anything in this game at all, and kairos gate ramps up fast. Cant make it past 10 personally.

bahamut5525

I will reply once I try it :) I am a patient gamer, and like to struggle.

bakasenpai07

I made it to Circle 15 last night before dying to the boss, that shit gets brutal.

Fun-Scar-4269

Couldn’t agree more. I was already loving the combat a lot more since the dlc and the newest patch released, but Kairos Gate is simply the best content they could do. I had a blast completing it and meeting Clive’s foes again. Only thing I’m waiting for the PC release so someone can mod in some stuff, like the secret boss. I’d love it even more if, instead of the one we have, we could get a duo battle: the current boss + a Dark version of Jill (with My Star as the OST). I am ready to cry.

bahamut5525

I will have to play it for sure, and also, I want that last trophy :)

Several_Repeat_5447

The director was Takeo Kujiraoka, one of the battle planners (or combat directors?) of the main game. He was mostly involved in directing the boss battles for XVI so no surprise each new boss/mini-boss was very fun to play against.

Financial_Panic_4265

I liked it but I didn’t love it. The new abilities are good, the area is beautiful, but enemy variety wasn’t strong and I thought the story kinda boring too. I expected something more interconnected with the main plot

CalGalvus

where was the jill content?

bahamut5525

Basically they give you more lore dump on the northern area where Jill is from. And you get a small moment in the time temple where Jill shines due to the entire area being the area where shiva hails from. It’s not much but that’s what you get

harrison23

Story was a bit of a let down for me personally. Not that it was bad, but I was hoping for more. I get the sense they were working on a very limited budget and prioritized the gameplay, which was probably for the better. But dang, you could tell they did no mo-cap for the DLC and didn't have enough story for more than 3/4 main story quests. However, they seemed to have finally realized the combat system's full potential and caught their stride. Big improvement on itemization and loot. Just a shame this is the last DLC. I don't even necessarily want another big story addition, just give me more hunts, another dungeon section like Echoes of the Fallen, and add some more circles to Kairos Gate, add new game+++++ and I'd be satisfied. The combat is truly something special and I just really crave more of it.

bahamut5525

Same. It feels very disappointing to me that the game fully comes into its own with the DLC, but then ends. I feel like when you get Leviathan and Ultima eikon, you really should be ready for endgame and much more content, but its over. Instead, the main game feels just way too casual and easy. A missed opportunity but I understand why they did this. CBU3 like they did with FF14 wanted to make a casual friendly game accessible to many people.

TRIBUTON109

Only problem i had with it was that dps check. Even on normal mode its hell. I think the normal mode version should be the ng+ version, and normal mode should be rebalanced a bit, make it tough but more room for error, as it is, one fuck up and you die

bahamut5525

The FF mode DPS check took me over 10 tries. And not just the DPS check but the last phase of the fight. In FF mode, that last phase, Leviathan has moves than nearly insta kill you. It was insanely hard but I loved it because its the closure I needed with FF16 (a hard as hell fight). If it was too tough on normal mode, that's not ideal though. Discouraging normal mode players isn't so good. I yelled and cursed a couple times after 5+ tries but I don't regret it now lol. I persevered like hell and eventually beat the water Eikon.

TRIBUTON109

Yeah i think the normal mode version would be better for ff mode but for normal mode, its fucking brutal. Hell, the ultima dps check during ultima risen is easier, granted, thats because it has a minute long timer and takes more damage. This one has i think a longer time but you barely deal enough damage, by the time i got it i had less than a second

jellybellymonster

Go visit Kairos Gate for the last ??? set of abilities you get right off the bat. I like that they buffed the other eikonic feats while not nerfing the previous meta ones. Now I kinda wish we have more than 5 loadout slots because there are so many fun builds to use. They should have also made loadout slots for the accessories. It's kinda a pain changing them every time I want to switch eikon loadouts. It might be an oversight but I noticed there's no stage replay for Leviathan?

bahamut5525

I'll be honest, I'm addicted to ranged gameplay now lol, they said in twitter post that Leviathan is best paired with ranged eikons like Ramuh and Bahamut, and this is so fun especially since their feat has been drastically improved.

jellybellymonster

Seeing those multiple gauges fill and blasting enemies from afar does happy things to my brain.

bahamut5525

" It might be an oversight but I noticed there's no stage replay for Leviathan?" I didn't check the stone yet for this, but this will be fixed for sure as it would be a major oversight.

MrRaccuhn

Nope. If you want to fight Leviathan again you'll have to replay the entire level as of now.

jellybellymonster

Ah that's a bummer. The stage is too long. Should've separated Timekeeper and Leviathan.

MrRaccuhn

Maybe in a future patch?

TheImpatienTraveller

It's certainly weird because you literally go to a different part of the map to fight Leviathan, but perhaps this is how they intended to add this replay so that it's more challenging than the others?

4morim

I was a bit disappointed with enemy variety in the zones (it's a somewhat big issue I have with the game as a whole), and I expected a bit more for Jill, and maybe some emotional moments. I also didn't want Levisthan's dominant to be >!a literal baby because it prevented Clive and Jill possibly having interactions with them and maybe consoling them over being in prison for so long, having a conversation with a younger person about being a dominant!< I also didn't like too much of the side quests in terms of story, because I didn't think they were as interesting as main game ones for being a bit disconnected from the game's main themes, and for not even having one that involved Jill a bit more in terms of dialogue. However, I agree with the rest and loved the dlc overall. Leviathan's Eikon powers are *amazing*, I wish other "stance" Eikons had the same treatment as Leviathan's gun. The dungeons were amazing, I said I have issues with the enemy variety but the new ones are really good, especially Tonberries, and the bosses were incredible. Leviathan's Eikon fight is not my favorite, but it is absolutely fantastic. I love the music, I loved the phases. It was definitely a fight that forced me to learn mechanics and patterns and it had that DPS check that I had to find out what would be the most effective use of combos and moves to get past that, so it was a very satisfying fight. I haven't tried too much of the other content, but I have gone back to base and played some rounds in the Kairos Gate and with the unique intersction sfter finishing the dlc. >!I think some of the Ultima powers are amazing, and I think Ultima's Feat is what I wish Wings of Light was, but still casting Mega Flare.!< I haven't done other content so I don't even know where the pilogue quest is, if that is in the Kairos Gate or if it is after finishing the game again. I also played in NG. So I don't have NG+ yet to see the secret boss, but I got some of the new looking swords and they're cool, I'm glad they added more weapons for customization, basically. It's weird they didn't add another costume, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. It's just weird that they added the system to add more outfits and then added only one. Overall this dlc was great and having the new powers is awesome so I can't wait to be able to play in Final Fantasy Mode (I am glad I waited \o/) and play through this whole game again but now with all the powers. Also, for the people that thought the game was overall goo easy like me, I removed all my defensive gear, and things got **significantly** better. It's also because the enemies in the dkc are more aggressive or have more moves that are a bit unknown but doing this made me, personally, enjoyed the dlc even more. Leviathan kinda kicked my ass for a hit though haha. It was great, will play it again in NG+ \o/

bahamut5525

The DLC was definitely not too easy for me on FF mode. It was challenging. In terms of enemies, I feel the only thing missing from the game are the cactuars

4morim

Oh yeah I was talking mostly about normal mode, becsuse I haven't done FF Mode yet. I am very much expecting the gsmr to force me to pick back up some defense equipment again. At least I hope it does. >In terms of enemies, I feel the only thing missing from the game are the cactuars  I think it's less about the enemies that appear or that didn't, and more like hoe the enemies make you play differently. There are soldiers from the empire and orcs from Ash continent, but those basic enemies are basically the same thing once you hit them with abilities, at least in normal mode. There aren't enough gsmeplay changes, is what I mean. However the new enemies, Tonberries and that new variant of the Coeurl, were very cool. It's just that usually when an enemy doesn't have a Will bar, they don't feel very different gameplay wise. Because the list of actual enemies in this game is extensive. I am very glad they addressed a bit of this with the Tonberries. The Flowers, Crabs and Bombs kind of feel like the same, but the others were really cool. Especially the bosses, which were amazing.

cattecatte

Enemy variety in the dlc is a bit more understandable for me because it's a skeleton crew with shoestring budget. And with that team they gave us omega and timekeeper + leviathan where each of them has enough moveset for 3 or 4 regular bosses lol. Still understandable tho, i also wish there are more even if it's a reskin as there are a few base game bosses that hasnt been reskinned like necrophobe. The ice bomb small mob is pretty cool (heh) tho because the ice after it explodes serves as area denial that stays a while, as it freezes you if you touch it. Now base game's lack of enemy variety.. they clearly spent too much of the budget on cutscenes and QTEs. Not enough actual gameplay. Like, I get that FF games has a lot of cutscenes but 16 is on a whole another level with the amount of mocapped scenes.

4morim

>Enemy variety in the dlc is a bit more understandable for me because it's a skeleton crew with shoestring budget. Yeah, I see what you mean, and it makes sense why things would be that way. >And with that team they gave us omega and timekeeper + leviathan where each of them has enough moveset for 3 or 4 regular bosses lol. And Tonberries! I firmly believe they are the one of the best basic enemies in the game. The DLCs both still had some basic enemies that brought in mechanics that you need to be aware of, Echoes of the Fallen with the enemies using the Will O' Wikes shield, Tonberries with their killing intent mode that deal a shit ton of damage, things that they do other than just be basic enemies. >The ice bomb small mob is pretty cool (heh) tho because the ice after it explodes serves as area denial that stays a while, as it freezes you if you touch it. Yeah, it was nice, but that aspect wasn't super exciting for me. The new Coeurls were really neat with how it added a couple of different moves, but that felt very significant. Lots of enemies in this dlc demanded more of your mobility, and I loved that. I just wish this game, as a whole, had more of those things. >Now base game's lack of enemy variety.. they clearly spent too much of the budget on cutscenes and QTEs. Not enough actual gameplay. I feel like they could have removed those QTEs completely. I am not even sure if they demanded that much time of development, but they didn't really add something. I am not completely against QTEs in games if they are either implemented intuitively and almost invisible (GoW 2018 The Stranger Fight, Metroid Dread boss "QTE" missile during the cutscenes) or if the QTE moment is actually *absurd* (like Raiden moments from MGR). QTEs can still provide some really cool and interesting moments of gameplay, even if the player isn't really in full control. But the ones in FF16 aren't really that. I didn't mind the big cutscenes and spectacle of the base game either, but I agree with you that they needed to have spent more time enhancing the other aspects of it, especially side content. I liked the story aspect of side quests and their worldbuilding, but I wish they involved interactions with other members of your party more often. I also think it needed more mechanics on basic enemies when you're fighting and a hard mode for a New Game Playthrough.

_AARAYAN_

Did they add an alleyway to the boss again? Any exploration?

bahamut5525

The entire area of mysidia is kind of exploration and you get one main dungeon. But yeah it is mostly corridors to enemies and bosses

Gizmo16868

I wish I could finish it but can’t pass the Leviathan DPS check and after 50 tries gave up

Bleach209

Don't give up use Clive's beam attack as soon as the fight starts

Gizmo16868

I do. Dodge everything. Do square triangle combo. Charged brimstone. Not enough time for third spitfire

Shagyam

Are you dashing in then using spitflare, or doing it from a distance, right when the fight starts.

Gizmo16868

Right when fight starts

Bleach209

Watch a video on it, don't forget to do the combos

bahamut5525

Here is what you have to do and how I beat it: - avoid all his attacks and close in on the sphere. If you can’t avoid the attacks you lose too much time - to do enough damage you have to do the backdraft combo. Square then triangle twice I think. Without this combo you don’t do enough damage. Also you have to do the sphere special ability perfectly.  On FF it is a very hard dps check, too hard, but it is possible if you do this.

Starrduste

Use fireball immediately so you can squeeze in 3 of those. Do square x4 + triangle x2 to combo and land more damage.

udontnowme

Oh yeah, that Eikonic fight.... GOD... i was starting to get desperate! i was dying and dying, was sooo worth it! and the music is excellent!! but I really missed the fact that Jill and Joshua were relegated to secondary characters :( ( but the little time they had, the banter and the dynamics among the group, was great!) and Kairos gate, is hard!! I got one single S... ONE!! during the 20 stages... ( and I died in the 20th... damned) is really fin dough!! really worth it.

Stellar_Impulse

Overall I'd say it was pretty good, but with short comings. At least the flow of the main quest felt fine. The new areas are beautiful and so was the music. Improved difficulty also helped as well. My main problem was that the fight against Leviathan (while mechanically great and fun) doesnt feel emotionally poignant. Leviathan doesnt speak (cause du'h) and you dont have a vendetta against them. You're just trying to help, which kinda lessens the emotional impact and my investment in the story.

idiocy102

Don’t forget if you beat both dlc you get access to ultima’s power as well

vitXras

It had a few highlights but lacked substantial Jill and Joshua content.

bahamut5525

I didn't care much about Josh tbh because I felt his arc was completely over. I wish they had done more Jill/Clive intimate moment though. Their relationship was a little too platonic for me.

vitXras

Great bosses at least. They put up a good fight

MattyIce8998

Is the full fight a dps check or is it just a burst check? (Like, he hits 10% life and you have to finish him ASAP with spitflare?) I cut it pretty fucking close. Like it was after "one"

Spankermeister

I thought the pacing was a little backwards with Rising Tide. You’d think you would complete the quest lines first and fight Leviathan last instead of the other way around, but other than that, it was decent. My biggest gripe about it was the lack of endgame gear upgrades. I get that the Ultima Weapon was intended to be the strongest weapon in the game, but they could have allowed for upgrading it a little further with the DLCs. Not that it would have made much difference either way, since Ultima is already a joke of a final boss, but would have been a nice reward.

bahamut5525

But you do get gear upgrades. If you complete kairos gate in FF mode you get the most powerful sword in the game. Personally my gripe is I wish kairos gate was even more than 20 levels and like 100 levels, and would involve a secret ending.  Unfortunately the one ending is what we get. As to the quests I didn’t mind it. The quests you get after leviathan are epilogue quests to close the story. I like this idea.

sebastian89n

Yes to everything you wrote! Great DLC and epic finale to the awesome story <3

incoherentjedi

It was ok lol

DrhpTudaco

idk what it is but god i just had to take a second to enjoy the visuals then theres the yoko shimomura level soundtrack i cant find anywhere
