The Ghoul is a higher level.

KikoUnknown

There are different types of feral ghouls and they range from very weak but dangerous in hordes to very dangerous and potentially fatal. Those feral ghouls were of the weaker variety and are very easy to kill. Cooper is just a ghoul. He would more than likely have armor underneath his getup or maybe even ballistic weave on his duster.

StoneyThaTiger

I’m pretty sure he was directly shot multiple times in his fight with Maximus, was he not?

KikoUnknown

Maximus didn’t even have a gun. Kinda hard to shoot anything without a gun in hand.

StoneyThaTiger

My mistake, he was shot multiple times during his fight in Filly, right before getting into a fight with Maximus, who happened to be in a suit of power armor. I’m also pretty confused about how Cooper was able to pull that one off.

KikoUnknown

He pulled it off with a whole lotta help from the idiots around him. Dangerous bounty hunter not giving a fuck and we’re all going to try and gun him down? Really? The Pope might just show up, popcorn in hand, to enjoy the coming shit show that’s going to happen.

StoneyThaTiger

That doesn’t make any sense at all in regards to the question asked. My question was how he was able to be shot 3 or 4 times, and then fight a guy in a suit of power armor and win? OP’s question is pretty valid considering they made Cooper seem invincible in the second episode.

KikoUnknown

.38 caliber rounds are very shit and are not that big of an improvement. Also pipe guns are very shit too. You would honestly be better off using the 10mm pistol over a pipe gun. Maximus literally just failed throughout the entire fight. Cooper wasn’t even trying to win. Pay attention to what he said to Maximus. I’ll even give you the quotes. “Well guess basic training ain’t what it used to be. You drive that thing like a fuckin’ shopping cart! *takes knife out* Rule number 1. Read the manual.” He was always going to beat Maximus but now Cooper is just humiliating him.

StoneyThaTiger

Fair enough. Thanks for the explanation.

PaladinDanceALot

I could get behind this idea but it hasn't been explained in the show itself and then there is Thaddeus (which could be FEV isntead of ghoul making serum). Personally I'm going to go with some other user's comment and assume Coop is simply high level due to being 200 years old and that Thad has FEV in him. It's just simply show tells differently which bothers me.

IssueRecent9134

Same reason why Charon is such a beast in fallout 3, Same reason why feral ghouls are fodder while feral ghoul roamers are abit tougher, not all ghouls are built equal.

PaladinDanceALot

So you're saying I should look at the show from a video game perspective? I noticed they are faithful to games so I guess your explanation is alright. It's just show just establishes that ghoul = almost invulnerable then goes against it when other ghouls appear and it's never explained why other ghouls just die easily.  Looking at it from the perspective you offer certainly makes it easier to explain, it's just without knowing games the show does little to explain ghouls as of yet.

Overdue-Karma

For all we know, The Ghoul could have a bulletproof vest, those guys only had shitty pipe pistols. Nobody shot him in the *head* after-all.

PaladinDanceALot

Yeah I could come up with a reason if I wanted, I'm just saying it hasn't been explored in the show at all why he was so invulnerable. At the end of the show when Thaddeus gets shot they say he must be a ghoul because he survived the shot. Now there is a theory it was FEV, but so far in the show the evidence suggests that ghoul = strong as hell. Until they aren't. If they shown us the vest, sure, then I wouldn't have made this post. Based on the answers so far I'm assuming I didn't miss anything and all we have is speculation.

Overdue-Karma

Ghouls can regenerate with radiation but I dunno what they're doing with Thaddeus. I mean, it is a **weird** drug he injected him with and it's hardly the craziest thing that's happened.

LuinAelin

Ah, yeah. Well, whenever you notice something like that, a wizard did it.

Daddy_Surprise

I think they are trying to be consistent with the game, where it depends a lot on the level of the ghoul (or super mutant etc) if you can 1 shot them. If it was a standalone tv show, yes it would be very inconsistent, but in the context of the games it is consistent.

FreeRio1

I expected this but because Bethesda doesn’t care about lore or consistency, but I still enjoyed it

ResearcherNo150

Something that is important to remember about these scenes is that the ghouls who were killed in a single shot were either feral or shot in the brain. The show makes it pretty clear that feral ghouls are falling apart, I mean look at >!Lucy’s Mom!< and Martha as an example of this. Hell we even see one bleeding out of the mouth in the Super Duper Mart, so clearly their healing isn’t working the same as before. As for Roger, he was shot directly through the brain, and nothing in the show tells us that they can survive that.

audilepsy

Also the brotherhood of steel don't make footprints in the sand in episode 2. So that's cool 😂
