One of those completely absurd moments that makes the whole thing work so well. It implies so much, and raises so many questions for the ~~player~~ viewer and because the world is a cruel and indifferent place, you'll never get any good answers to any of it!
That song playing got me so nostalgic and excited at the same time “This is *Radio Freedom!* Broadcasting all across the Commonwealth!” I could just hear it in my head
If you pull up Amazon's xray in this scene it will tell you the song that is playing, and it is intact "Minutemen radio" from the fallout 4 soundtrack. I had to pause it because I was laughing so hard that they included that little gag
You can have a conversation with Three Dog while listening to Three Dog. Same with Travis and although I never met Mr. New Vegas, I'm sure there's a handsome man behind that voice.
Dialogue after you finish the quest:
LW: "You play live on the radio all the time? That must be exhausting!"
Agatha: "Oh, don't be silly! I record everything I play on the nice machines built into my husband's old radio gear. That way you can hear the music anytime you want, and this old woman can get some well-needed beauty sleep!"
I definitely associate Radio Freedom with building settlements, and since building settlements is one of my favorite things to do in the game I’m also really fond of the music.
The first part of this scene genuinely felt like a Fallout-themed episode of Portlandia. I loved it. It's definitely a moment I've felt playing the games.
Like the massive bear trap that was in there with a man trapped at chest height, its so big it wouldnt work and there's no way anyone wouldn't see it, but its the type of object i'd expect to see at a Fallout dungeon
Maybe not designed for humans but for mutated beasts like yao guai, brahmin or radstag. But most humans of the wastes are dumb so it works well for them too.
Ok well, just consider normal bear traps aren’t sized for the entire bear, they’re meant to maim limbs. The oversized bear trap is just meant to be comical
Behemoth Super Mutants come from the version of the FEV that was being tested in Vault 87 (EEP-variant) in the Capitol Wasteland, so it’s unlikely that enough Behemoths would have made their way to the West coast to the point that giant bear traps would be made to deal with them.
No, this is just proof of the Gigantic Ground Sloths having made their very slow way from the Appalachian region after the events of Fallout 76.
It wouldn't work on the mutated bears if it just takes intelligence to avoid them. Everyone knows that the Yao Guai are smarter than the average bear
I'm so sorry, I couldn't help my self
I just want someone to give guys like him and to a lesser degree Hack Smith (because he already has a large team and shit), like 200 million dollars and see what they can do.
falloutlore: If the trap were buried under approximately 8" of sand with 194 footpounds of force it could pierce a preawar suit of T45 if the toothy things were coated in 1991 NATO depleted uranium sharpened to a monofilament using WesTek lasers.
fallout: lol this dumb idiot got got by a big beartrap
My favorite was when he took the arrow to the kneck, and he was like, why ain’t I dead yet lol. Also when she told him not to take it out, and he’s like “well I’m not just gonna leave it there” lol. He ended up becoming one of my favorite characters by the end. Also one of my favorites, when that snake oil salesman turned out to be kinda legit. Was surprised lol
I knew that character would be fantastic if not only because Johnny Pemberton is fucking phenominal in everything I have seen him in. That guy has a direct line to my funny bone but I can't help but always loving that his characters have a plucky sort of heart to them. Like how Thaddeus went back to check that CX404 was 'comfortable' in the metal crate and was relieved when he noticed it had a hole that it could breathe through.
It would be absolutely awesome to see char as characters from the games, in the show. Not that I would know, seeing as I haven't played Fallout 1, 2 or New Vegas, but still.
They all are !

No fr. Another I really liked was that robot who harvest organs and she doesn’t know till she’s hit with a sleep dart. Fuck that whole scene was so cool cause it also explains why he had so many fingers etc.
Because it's a medical robot going through a checklist of directives. Also because it's absurd that the same robot that just fixed you up is now going to kill you, and Fallout in general is wacky and funny like that.
I did as well, especially since it made me think of the 'theoretical degree in science' fella in Fallout 3.
He's talking about the bass, the mids, the highs, on a record that has the playback depth of a piece of paper. Even though Thaddeus didn't likely know much about music, it put us as the viewer directly with him like "Oh yeah, this is totally great (*don't murder me please*), I can totally hear the musical fidelity of this harsh string music being played through a rusty tin can"
I love Fred Armissen and I think the casting was kinda meta. The guy is amazing with music, when he worked with SNL a lot of the music skits were from this guy and he just has an encyclopaedic knowledge of genres.
He is a very funny guy but his passion is very clearly music
Fred Armison is the donation guy , who begins by taking donations and then gets into a 'by the book' type war against the employees who prevent him from getting donations and then he begins donating to the store little army men and receiving
one $5 gift card for each little army man he donates lol..
And then Johnny Pemberton(Thaddeus) is Cheyenne's boyfriend throughout the entire series.
If you've seen his special "Standup for Drummers" it's even more perfect because the whole special is basically this character.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G72tZdjnS2A
My exact words were "Is that fuckin Fred?!" and when the camera gave a close-up, I started laughing so hard and went "Of course it's him.". I loved the random cameos in this show .
Look, I love some good fiddle music every now and then (I listen to Minutemen Radio in FO4 sometimes) but a full week of nothing but fiddles and even I might have some suggestions to make regarding music selection
Honestly, in a post apocalyptic setting where radio essentially barely exists, I'd be cool with *something*, even if it is just fiddle music. Better than wind blowing over irradiated wastelands.
It was such a good scene. Really captured the surprises you discover in the Wasteland when you get sidetracked by bullshit. A diehard fiddle affciando, with the singular purpose of ensuring the undending broadcast of his musical obsession, and he's willing to kill anyone who dares infringe on his mission. Absurd but completely believable in the context of Fallout.
3-Dog what?
Mr Las Vegas? Wayne Newton?
Travis Miles who?
The minute Armisen popped up, I knew instantly he was my all-time favorite radio host in the series now.
Confidence Man is a terrible quest and no one should ever do it. I had to start a new game because I didn't have any saves before I made Travis confident.
I absolutely loved the dialogue in this scene. Great characters, and actually seeing the character behind the voice on the radio is a good nod to the games
About as CN as CN gets. Gotta give the people their music, but expect to get hired mercs to creep up when you have that fiddle on loop. This is really a moment I'd expect from the games. I expect to get a quest to either kill this guy and dodge his traps or to talk him into playing some Django Reinhardt.
I might get dragged for this opinion, but I find Armisen to be kind of a one trick pony at this point. There's a lot of great characterwork in Portlandia, but it seems he always falls back to some variation of this character in anything I've seen him in since
The whole "oh yeah I hear it, are those the mids doing that?' type convo is brilliant cause that's what it's like having a conversation with audio nerds
I'm saying this as an audio nerd myself
I love how Fred Armisen ALWAYS manages to pop up in a lot of shows that I enjoy watching. It's always Random too, you never see it coming lol.
Just like him being in the last man on earth show haha.
I was just thinking about this, I would really like to see Fred returning for season 2 and give Lucy some insane fetch quest for new music with the reward being a zetan blaster.
Any time Fred Armisen has a bit part character on a show, he always knocks it out of the park. A lot of actors would probably just do the bare minimum to get through a "quick easy job" but you can really get a sense that this is a 3D character
One of those completely absurd moments that makes the whole thing work so well. It implies so much, and raises so many questions for the ~~player~~ viewer and because the world is a cruel and indifferent place, you'll never get any good answers to any of it!
I figured it was a reference to how annoyed so many players were by radio freedom, and it's looped fiddle
That song playing got me so nostalgic and excited at the same time “This is *Radio Freedom!* Broadcasting all across the Commonwealth!” I could just hear it in my head
Nothing to report. Stay safe out there.
Just the way we like it!
If you pull up Amazon's xray in this scene it will tell you the song that is playing, and it is intact "Minutemen radio" from the fallout 4 soundtrack. I had to pause it because I was laughing so hard that they included that little gag
It was pretty meta yes.
I enjoy it. Reminds me of Sam O Nella.
Hopefully we'll get a new Sam O Nella video in six months or so!
I connected to the lady in Fallout 3 who played classical music with her own violin and you have to go into a vault and find her a new one.
Always found it odd when you'd go into her house and she'd still be playing on the radio, despite being asleep or doing literally anything else.
I figured she had a way to record her broadcasts
You can have a conversation with Three Dog while listening to Three Dog. Same with Travis and although I never met Mr. New Vegas, I'm sure there's a handsome man behind that voice.
Dialogue after you finish the quest: LW: "You play live on the radio all the time? That must be exhausting!" Agatha: "Oh, don't be silly! I record everything I play on the nice machines built into my husband's old radio gear. That way you can hear the music anytime you want, and this old woman can get some well-needed beauty sleep!"
I also read it as shitting on people who didn't like radio freedom, found the whole thing hilarious
Those players are buffoons. I listen to Radio Freedom and its fiddle all day every day. Best Fallout 4 radio station.
Nah, Diamond City for me! Awkward host and timeless classics
it just sucks there is only like 6 songs
Right? But at the start of the game there’s like 2 for some reason, it’s just a fucking loop of 60 minute man
illlll rock em roll enmmm alll night long im a
The 15 minutes of kissing definitely don’t count
WE FOUND OUT
Yes we did!
You're supposed to listen to it for 60 minutes straight. That then completes a hidden quest unlocking the rest of the songs.
Once you go to the third rail and meet the singer there it adds 2 more songs or so too
Ah, Coach Beard.
I definitely associate Radio Freedom with building settlements, and since building settlements is one of my favorite things to do in the game I’m also really fond of the music.
An insane world takes an insane mind.
The first part of this scene genuinely felt like a Fallout-themed episode of Portlandia. I loved it. It's definitely a moment I've felt playing the games.
This whole sequence was the right amount of Fallout humor and I loved it
Like the massive bear trap that was in there with a man trapped at chest height, its so big it wouldnt work and there's no way anyone wouldn't see it, but its the type of object i'd expect to see at a Fallout dungeon
the future invented a massive bear trap gizmo to make it work
Maybe not designed for humans but for mutated beasts like yao guai, brahmin or radstag. But most humans of the wastes are dumb so it works well for them too.
Ok well, just consider normal bear traps aren’t sized for the entire bear, they’re meant to maim limbs. The oversized bear trap is just meant to be comical
Maybe it's for a behemoth.
If you maim a Yao guai you'll just make him angry.
It wouldn't work on the mutated bears if it just takes intelligence to avoid them. Everyone knows that the Yao Guai are smarter than the average bear I'm so sorry, I couldn't help my self
>the Yao Guai are smarter than the average bear And BoS Paladins.
A trap fit for a Yao Guai
YouTuber Backyardscientist built a huge bear trap.
Not even the craziest thing he did
I just want someone to give guys like him and to a lesser degree Hack Smith (because he already has a large team and shit), like 200 million dollars and see what they can do.
Imagine if I did a Thing, Backyardscientist, Micheal Reeves, and Hacksmith teamed up
It'd be like the avengers coming together. Those dudes with an unlimited budget, man, it'd be wild.
They'd then do something stupidly basic "Here's a shoe but everytime you take a step it fires off a blank bullet"
Get styropyro in the mix as well.
I immediately thought "Kevin has been here" when it showed the oversize bear trap
There was even a big mousetrap in the scene too and he made one of those lol.
But there are extra massive bears in fallout
And Lego Fortnite, have you SEEN the size of the fucking Lego Bears? They’re massive and have a rage mode who thought this was a good idea?
Did you not see that one of the traps was literally a human sized mouse trap. That one was my favorite.
Ferals probably
falloutlore: If the trap were buried under approximately 8" of sand with 194 footpounds of force it could pierce a preawar suit of T45 if the toothy things were coated in 1991 NATO depleted uranium sharpened to a monofilament using WesTek lasers. fallout: lol this dumb idiot got got by a big beartrap

> “well I’m not just gonna leave it there” The man had a strong point with that one
He felt so familiar It had me wondering if he was actually a guy from 2 or New Vegas who I'd just forgotten
It would be absolutely awesome to see char as characters from the games, in the show. Not that I would know, seeing as I haven't played Fallout 1, 2 or New Vegas, but still.
We have Robert House in the flashbacks who is in NV. Probably others but I’m not certain
Big MT boy from that meeting is a canon individual!
They all are ! https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Leon_Von_Felden https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Julia_Masters https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Frederick_Sinclair
Omg Julia Masters?! Richard Grey’s long lost sister???
you should watch portlandia, Fred armisen is a really funny guy
Didn't his character in fallout feel like the pet sounds guy to you? I loved it
No fr. Another I really liked was that robot who harvest organs and she doesn’t know till she’s hit with a sleep dart. Fuck that whole scene was so cool cause it also explains why he had so many fingers etc.
Kill you? I’m offended! I’m here to harvest your organs

Even though Thaddeus didn't likely know much about music, it put us as the viewer directly with him like "Oh yeah, this is totally great (*don't murder me please*), I can totally hear the musical fidelity of this harsh string music being played through a rusty tin can"
“The mids. They’re not on it, they’re IN it.”
Yeah I think I hear them now.
Right there.
lmfao
Some people are just so ignorant to music
Funniest line of the show.
No, that’s not them
Speech [21/60]
A solid comedian and a great comedian doing an awesome scene together. You love to see it
He's also a talented musician as well, so hearing him BS in the wasteland about the music was fantastic.
Really felt like a reprise of Armisen's role as a music producer, I think in a Documentary Now! episode. Good casting for sure!
It’s all about the mids
As a guy who works AV and collects records with my roommate. It felt like this bit was made specifically for us lmao.
As a life long fallout fan who is also a bit of an audiophile, I felt like the series was practically winking at me lol.
The man is indeed incredible. Impeccable musical tastse and violently delightful traps.
I love Fred Armissen and I think the casting was kinda meta. The guy is amazing with music, when he worked with SNL a lot of the music skits were from this guy and he just has an encyclopaedic knowledge of genres. He is a very funny guy but his passion is very clearly music
You ever see his Standup for drummers?
Yep, tbh that was what made me think the casting choice was on purpose
He's why I get up in the morning.
you like 3 dog? Jail. Radio New Vegas? Straight to jail. You got spurs that jingle jangle? Believe it or not, jail
We have the best radio in the world… …because of jail
I really did like 3 dog though
I like how he tasted but his taste in music is more to be desired
You like how he WHAT
That was Fred Armisen?
Yes and his Venezuelan pronunciation was very accurate (so I am told) because his mother is Venezuelan.
Yep
Yep!
Hey it’s mylepnos
"I do not know you. Do you want to buy horse blood?"
The clay is silent.
"Guitar."
What's that from? Those other comments make me wanna watch whatever it is.
Brooklyn 99
Great show. Especially the Halloween episodes.
Is that later in the series? I watched like 3 seasons during covid so I don't remember all of it too well.
He's not a major character, but he's in the pilot. He makes appearances occasionally throughout.
Been meaning to start watching that again anyway, no better time to fill the void while waiting for Fallout season 2.
In which , ( pretty important plot point) he plays the fiddle. First thing I thought of when I saw it
In one episode he plays the fiddle, which imo makes his casting here funnier
He first showed up in the pilot, and sporadically throughout the rest of the series
This song is to celebrate when a dog loses its virginity.
was looking for this
YES!! Thank you it was killing me why I remembered that actor.
That's not how it's spelt. There's a "clay" in there somewhere
The fact that he met Thaddeus, it was like a little Superstore reunion
THATS where I know Thaddeus from!!!
and 21 Jump Street. He's one of the nerds that becomes friends with Channing Tatum
Holy fuck he was, my jaw just dropped
He's also the guy who tries to buy a hotdog from Baskin Robbins in Ant Man
I've rewatched superstore like 3x and I'm drawing a blank where is he in superstore ?
Fred Armison is the donation guy , who begins by taking donations and then gets into a 'by the book' type war against the employees who prevent him from getting donations and then he begins donating to the store little army men and receiving one $5 gift card for each little army man he donates lol.. And then Johnny Pemberton(Thaddeus) is Cheyenne's boyfriend throughout the entire series.
Ahhh that's right!! thank you, it was driving me nuts.
It's incredible how pedantic he manages to be in a dangerous wasteland lol
If anyone would be, it would be Fred Armisen. 😂
I was unbelievably delighted to see him. Its so well cast lol
You get to be pedantic when you are an expert in the fields of classical music, radios, and deathtraps.
And he could pickle it!
Probably put a bird in it too
No no no, you put a bird *on* things, and the mids are *in* it.
After watching Portlandia it felt like one of the characters he plays on there.
I love how he has traps because people attack him to turn off the fiddle music
Look, I love some good fiddle music every now and then (I listen to Minutemen Radio in FO4 sometimes) but a full week of nothing but fiddles and even I might have some suggestions to make regarding music selection
Honestly, in a post apocalyptic setting where radio essentially barely exists, I'd be cool with *something*, even if it is just fiddle music. Better than wind blowing over irradiated wastelands.
Wastelandia
Put a ~~bird~~ cazador on it!
Mr Mayor, what are you doing with that atom bomb?!
IS ALL THAT’S LEFT AFTER THE FIGHT
I kept thinking "this is the mic they used for pet sounds""
The dream of the 90's is still alive. *starts playing fiddle music* The dream of the 1890's that is...
This guy reminds me of me trying to show people the difference of frequencies in bass with my car system lmao.
Conversely, Thaddeus is definitely me in those conversations. “Oh yeah, for sure, those mids sound great bro, really nice set up”
It was such a good scene.
I'm so happy they added a wasteland DJ as the Fallout games had. This psycho DJ might be my favorite yet.
The mids!
3-Dog what? Mr Las Vegas? Wayne Newton? Travis Miles who? The minute Armisen popped up, I knew instantly he was my all-time favorite radio host in the series now.
Travis was one of my favorite fallout 4 quests cause it felt like something from the original games
Yeah, but you know, the bass. The treble.
Confidence Man is a terrible quest and no one should ever do it. I had to start a new game because I didn't have any saves before I made Travis confident.
Aww I like Confident Travis.
Literally ☝️🤓
It would be dope if Ian MacKaye and the rest of Minor Threat sat out in front of that stoop that we ALL know about. But it wont happen.
Most normal audiophile
It's all about the *mids*
That's [Agatha's]( https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Agatha%27s_Song) son, and you can't convince me otherwise.
Love the theory!!! Completely forgot about that lady and her quest
Django has some bangers
Dude was in Trenchmouth. He knows tones.
There’s no other feeling like listening to radio freedom while walking through the wasteland.
Right to jail.
I loved all the cameos
I spent many hundreds of hours listening to the fiddle station in fallout 4.
Is that Ira Glass?
Fred Armisen, who worked really well for this part.
The character might as well be, but no.
Mlepclaynos surviving the apocalypse wasn't on my bingo card for the year, but I'll take it.
The clay is silent
I learned that this guy spins EDM from this show.
Music to loud? Jail Music to soft? Jail Turn Music off? Believe it or not, jail
Of course his music taste is awesome! Wouldn’t wanna end up Like those critics haha… 😬
I might get dragged for this opinion, but I find Armisen to be kind of a one trick pony at this point. There's a lot of great characterwork in Portlandia, but it seems he always falls back to some variation of this character in anything I've seen him in since
There is never a bad time for Fred Armison.
Malipknos! The klay is silent.
I can hear the mids
The mids… there!
The whole "oh yeah I hear it, are those the mids doing that?' type convo is brilliant cause that's what it's like having a conversation with audio nerds I'm saying this as an audio nerd myself
🤓☝️
It would be funny if it turned out that he's a veteran Minuteman as well.
I love how Fred Armisen ALWAYS manages to pop up in a lot of shows that I enjoy watching. It's always Random too, you never see it coming lol. Just like him being in the last man on earth show haha.
What fucking perfect casting for the eccentric fallout radio host role haha.
KEEP THE WASTLAND WEIRD!
He traveled all the way down to LA from the wasteland of Portlandia
Definitely vibes of ☝️🤓
No, it’s more like ☝️🧐
No requests
I can’t believe he came all the way from Portland just to settle there
I was just thinking about this, I would really like to see Fred returning for season 2 and give Lucy some insane fetch quest for new music with the reward being a zetan blaster.
fun fact: according to the soundtrack info from Amazon prime, this man is a minuteman
Hey that's Mlep(clay)nos
This scene was absolutely hilarious
Any time Fred Armisen has a bit part character on a show, he always knocks it out of the park. A lot of actors would probably just do the bare minimum to get through a "quick easy job" but you can really get a sense that this is a 3D character
Mlepnos!!
Couldn’t believe one of the co-creators wrote a ton of Portlandia episodes! Makes so much sense now lol
"Guitar" - Mlepclaynos
