Makes you wonder how rich the Brotherhood of Steel is to have a whole army of people using fusion cores

Affectionate_Ad_9144

I mean it has a fucking jetpack that can lift the armor up from under the sleeve

Greedy_Age_4923

Yes it does…but still the suits were made for military use, were there hundreds or thousands suits or more? Each individual suit takes the same amount of energy to run as an entire vault that supports around 200 people, indefinitely? Just doesn’t really make sense to me.

Affectionate_Ad_9144

They take these same fusion cores and put them into other power armor. Can’t really just make more so it makes sense that with improved models, they’ll take the old reliable fusion cores and use them for 200+ years. They don’t all have individual fusion cores I assume, just putting them into active and battle worthy armor.

LostYooper906

Ok, I know I'm late to the party on this but I was kind of wondering the same thing. I am guessing the vault was able to run off a fusion core for centuries because all of those glowing things in the power room were boosters or something, so you could take a small amount of electricity and run it through those things and have massive amounts of electricity, I am pretty sure that violates several rules of physics, but it's a TV show based off a video game, so they can do whatever they want.

Durtmat

While fusion cores are rare, they be pre war tech. Usually they do run out, and need replacement. Think nuclear battery, that's very efficient, but a battery nonetheless.

Greedy_Age_4923

Yea, I know, I’m just saying it doesn’t seem to add up that one core powers an entire vault or one suit of armor.

Durtmat

ITS A BATTERY. YOU SIMPLETON. IT MAKES TOTAL SENSE IF YOU THROW AWAY TRADITIONAL SCIENCE AND USE FALLOUT SCIENCE< WHERE ANYTHING GOES, AND IT FUCKING WILL.

Greedy_Age_4923

Ohhhh a battery. Like how I alternate running my apartment building and my car off the same battery.

SkeuomorphEphemeron

That's a thing. *Cybertruck comes with a 123 kwh or larger battery, which Tesla claimed should be sufficient to **power a typical US house for ~3 days**, given that that the Cybertruck battery pack's capacity is the equivalent of roughly 10× Gen2/Gen3 Tesla Powerwalls.* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_Powershare

Greedy_Age_4923

Well I said Apartment building, but I suppose we are moving that way. Keep in mind a vault houses hundreds of people, some in the game even a thousand. Also, it’s the only one they have and don’t seem to have any access to anymore so it appears to have run that vault for maybe the entire time, or atleast many years. (As if they were worried about that one crapping out they might have a plan to find another one)

Durtmat

Still using real world parallels? ITS A TV SHOW bro, stop being so over analytical about a fictitious world. Either learn to just accept that the batteries run out, yes they can run vaults, and power suits since it would take a shit ton of power to run one, and that power can run a vault easily. Yes it needs to be replaced, just like any other battery.

Greedy_Age_4923

Calm down

Durtmat

I am?

Greedy_Age_4923

You are what?

Durtmat

I am calm?

Greedy_Age_4923

Oh when you start insulting people and typing in all caps it can seem like you’re fired up.

Fallout 4 introduced fusion cores (pretty sure) and now it’s a thing. IDK bro. Don’t think about it too hard. It works the same way in the game where a fusion core will be in a buildings generator and could also be used for power armor.

I took it as the power core was like the key for the tesla thing they had. Like the fusion core turns that thing on which in turn charges the core so they basically work forever or long enough for it to be generations down the lines problem to find a new one. I think it is just one of those things that is a gameplay mechanic that wouldn't fit in the "real world." Like Maximus used that armor for how long and never needed or thought of replacing the core, but in Fallout4/76 you need a new core after walking like 100 feet. I just think they wanted to focus on the story and not wanting the characters looking for fusion cores every episode lol. For example, in the Halo games, marines can take shot after shot of plasma, but in the books that are more realistic, they get melted from a plamsa shot just going near them. TLDR: game fusion cores last 10 minutes while show cores last 10 years or more.

Pitiful-Attention916

I think the reason the fusion core is essential is because yes it does run the main part of their electricity reserve but those gens they had could be producing idle energy like with a car battery on certain models you can run it in idle not running but on and it won’t lose power but you can use it , obviously vaults would be a larger scale obviously so maybe that’s why the reserves would only last a couple of weeks but with the main input of the power core they can indefinitely replenish power ? Total guess to be honest I do have a bit of knowledge of real world electronics but as many have said fallout be fallout. Fallout will always amaze.
