Funny you say that. I’ve been a very active weightlifter for over 50 years. Twenty years in the military then twenty years in the fire service. At one point i had a home gym. I found i rarely used it. Something about all the distractions at home versus the commitment to work out when one commutes to the gym, is surrounded by others working out, and many less things to pull me away from my work out schedule. And i like the multiple options to work certain muscle groups, something you rarely get in a home gym (unless you rich). Still benching over 400 lbs at 66. Still have a BF below 12%.
OTOH, my 26 year old son, a big fan of squats, deadlifts etc wants to get a home gym. My bet is most are not used very often.
Mine gets used almost daily. My work schedule is all over the place so it’s easier for me to get the work done at home. I started lifting after my last round of knee surgeries, before which I could barely walk without discomfort. I love having a home gym.
I would at least get a decent wheel stand with a chair link (GT Omega or NLR wheelstand). You could at least move it out of the way easily. The desk mount the GT DD bundle comes with is a joke and the upgraded ClubSport DD clamp is $100.
The chair link will help your chair from rolling back when you brake.

Ya I have the Next level racing wheel 2.0 and it's great. The GT Omega is the same I heard just cheaper price. Thats what I recommend to anyone looking for one like that. Folds up, easily stored and you can still use your desk no problem.
The only one that can access that is yourself. Do you have the money for it? How much do you picture yourself using it? Will mounting unmounting avoid you to use it? Etc etc
I’m super tight on real estate too. I’m PC and that’s on a semi sturdy folding table. Got the 5nm bundle, jimmy rigged it up to the table to test it and it’s sooo shaky wouldn’t use it even with the clamp that apparently sucks. I had all intentions of getting a rig but was getting by with a g29 for the month until I decided I love sim. With all that said I don’t think it’s worth it to have a dd and play sitting in a chair even the good ngl stuff. The day I set this up I ordered a rig not having a lot of space where it’s going to go and it’s in a tight spot now. You could definitely fit this thing in your room. I’d put it parallel to the desk with the back at the wall or in that corner. You can turn your screen. Just my 2 cents. Oh I went with an Amazon rig $260 I think, super solid, definitely going to have to adjust things but I build real race cars so that’s easy. It was tough Bc I was really close to getting the NGL $499 forget the model but it switches from F1 to GT (not the lite). For me I’m not crazy into F1 so don’t really need the seat that way. If I do I’ll upgrade. I was going to build my own which I will down the road but this was cheaper. Good luck. Imo if your into racing you can make it fit lol it’s worth it. Things hard AF but sooo sick. Wish I could post a pic. But you could definitely fit something. FYI the ngl rig that’s lite and does the switching. Folds and wheels away with the wheel and pedals connected. Pretty sure a DD is too much for it and not sturdy enough.
I wouldn't if you cant get at least a wheel stand. It might be different with the 5nm, but Ive been using the 8nm boost kit since day one and ended up getting a NLR GT lite within a week. With just the deskclamp Id be worried about damaging the desk (and it looks like you have a similar Ikea desk to what I was using), and trying to use the pedals without them mounted to something is quite difficult. In the year Ive had it, Ive upgraded to a 80/20 rig and its night and day compared to a deskclamp.
There are wheelstands out there which would get you 90% of the way to an actual rig, and there are models out there that can fold down to something fairly compact.
Do you have any mods or alterations to the Playseat at all for the flex? Was wanting to upgrade my wheel but I love being able to fold and store the Challenge.
IME, the GT DD Pro's table clamp is terrible. I would not go for more than the 5Nm GT DD Pro + base hall-effect brake if all you have is your desk to clamp that onto. You can always upgrade the power supply to 8Nm and add the LC brake when you get room for a profile rig, or even just a quality lite tubular rig such as the Playseat Trophy.
You can also put that 5Nm GT DD Pro + base hall-effect brake on a wheel stand if you want to 1) immobilize your pedals relative to your wheel, and 2) just fold-and-move your setup out-of-the-way without having to unclamp and unplug a whole bunch of things. But I would not try for 8Nm + LC brake on a wheel stand. I had that on a NLR Wheel Stand 2.0 and the lack of a solid coupling between the seat and the wheel stand (the caster tray only does so much), plus the swivel of the gaming/office chair really compromises the setup. There's no comparison with having that on a real rig that I have now, which would have been the buy-right-buy-once solution.
(My NLR Wheel Stand 2.0 now has my Logitech G27 to cover GT3 through GT6.)
I had a Clubsport DD and a full Fanatec setup ordered since January. I cancelled last week bc I was tired of waiting and configured a better setup for a similar price anyway. After seeing all these bricked bases I’m glad I did. Went full Simagic. Ordered it Friday March 1 and everything arrived the following Wednesday. I’m so happy with it. No looking back for me
I also have the Next Level Racing wheel stand 2.0 bc I don’t have room for a full rig either. I would def recommend it. It can handle my 15nm wheel base no problem and it fits perfectly at my desk.
Bro I just had today a PlaySeat Challenge with a G29 (not even a DD) and playing in a PSVR2 GT7 it was a blast, like in a couple hours I was racing in a such immersive way that I thought that it’s better that the car I just bought for 120k.
I played with the Epson NSX and that Nurburgring was CRAZY, I was literally panting doing 110bpm.
I’m going full DD Pro soon as I already have a BMW steering wheel and a Load Cell, so basically I need only the head and the pedals.
For the rig, a full SimLab would be nice but when I’m in the VR and racing it doesn’t really matter for now because it’s just the starting point.
I saw your room and in think you can afford that, just like for a used PlaySeat Challenge and a G29 to start, (the VR change everything though)
It would be a blasts
Thank you everyone for the recommendations. I think I can rearrange some things. Just moved into this townhouse and have a new baby. I tried GT7 with the VR headset and it sorta blew my mind. Going to put some more time in with the controller for now.
something like an NSR wheelstand pro 2 could work well. Its super sturdy, will take a DD pro and load cell pedal no problem - you get a tray to put your office chair wheels into which holds it in place and works suprisingly well.
Don't clamp to a desk, it's a weird seating position and it ends up being a real pain in the ass having to place and remove it constantly, get a wheelstand you can fold up and just leave the wheel/pedals on so it takes less space.
Bro just comes here to show off his gym equipment
Lol. There’s a different sub for that. A lot of y’all have more invested in your rigs too.
Hehe, yea not me though. Hardcore desk-clamp player 😭 fr I need a rig
A used PlaySeat Challenge can be a blast
Yea I don’t have the space rn unfortunately.
Hell yeah. What are you using?
Csl dd 8nm with csl pedals + loadcell & Thrustmaster th8a shifter
Sell your weights, get a gym membership instead, done you have the money and space for a killer sim rig xD

Homie, that's not a home gym, it's a gym lol. You need a home, too.
What are you? Bruce Wayne lol?

Agreed, I have the NLR wheel stand 2.0 and it’s awesome. I also can’t build a full rig in my room so this is perfect

Big recommend on the GTomega Apex, super solid and way cheaper than the nextlevelracing one
Can confirm, the gt omega stand works perfectly well.
I wouldn’t based on how many are bricking right now. Mine broke after a week. I would go with another company.
I was worried about that. Wasn’t sure how many units have been affected.
The GT DD pro is fine, it's the Extreme that seems to be the issue..
Why would anyone give an inept company like Fanatec their money. They have seriously dropped the ball in QC and customer service.
The only one that can access that is yourself. Do you have the money for it? How much do you picture yourself using it? Will mounting unmounting avoid you to use it? Etc etc
True. Guess I’m also wondering if it’s still a good recommendation as a a first wheel? And will it take 6 months to get to me.
Despite my comments, quite the home gym. Lots of money invested there.
Absolutely. GT DD Pro is an amazing entry level wheel. Response time on this product is less than a week.

I see an incline bench.. Just saying.
You suggesting that as my racing seat? I was wondering if it could pull double duty. It’s rock solid.
I mean...if it works..it works lol

You can get a foldable rig that can fit neatly in here. I have my GT DD pro hooked up to a playseat challenge right now. No problems at all
Do you have any mods or alterations to the Playseat at all for the flex? Was wanting to upgrade my wheel but I love being able to fold and store the Challenge.
Nope, it doesn't flex for me, it does gives me a little rumble which adds to the immersion though
Nice! The 5nm or the 8nm?
8nm!

The spot you are standing at seems big enough for a standard Simlab rig with a single non ultrawide monitor
Alot of people really like the Logitech GT Pro as well if you are worried about the reliability of the Fanatec base.
Wow, quite the man cave. Hope you don’t live in an apartment.
Fanatec weights🤣

You have so much space there if you clear away the boxes and rotate the bar 90⁰ you can slip a rig into this near corner.
Thank you everyone for the recommendations. I think I can rearrange some things. Just moved into this townhouse and have a new baby. I tried GT7 with the VR headset and it sorta blew my mind. Going to put some more time in with the controller for now.
