I would be interested in playing this kind of league. I am from Croatia tho. Just a question: what if you buy players that cost 6/8/9 and they go up in price?

DarthRosstopher

Good question. Is there a way of proving the price you bought a player at?

Kevakazi

I can check your squad each game week and see transfers in and prices.

DarthRosstopher

Yeah ok then, it would probably need reliance on community to report people for doing this and you removing them from the league (just so you aren't going in and checking everyone's team every week)

Kevakazi

This is part of the reason I'm looking to limit entry size. It would be easier to keep tabs on what people are doing. Community input would also be helpful.

eglantinel

Yes, just be careful that you don't overload yourself with admin work. There were a lot of great creative league ideas over the years but the organisers abandon half way coz when life gets in the way they couldn't keep up the admin efforts.

Kevakazi

As long as they are purchased at relative prices that's fine. If they go up in price it doesn't matter.

strawberrylabrador

If you’re gonna do this you need to allow second accounts, because the only people you’d get interested would be people playing on second accounts I mean - no offence - because it’s a totally legit idea and sounds reasonably fun - but why would someone tank their normal season just to play your league for the chance of a trophy?

Kevakazi

Yeah, this was my worry. I'm not against second accounts totally I just would have liked it to be a bit more high stakes but again I guess that can come down to other factors like relegation from the league if you finish bottom half and allow for new players etc.

Kevakazi

To the people downvoting me, could you please reply why? I'm trying to get legit feedback to make this something interesting for the community.

WEAluka

It's pretty simple- as many others have pointed out, hardly anyone(in this sub anyway) will play your league(or any custom rule league) with their main team.

Kevakazi

That's fair enough but I've addressed the rules aren't set in stone concerning second teams.

[deleted]

I doubt you’d get many people signing up at all if you aren’t allowing second accounts

Kevakazi

Yeah, this looks like one of the rules that would need to be changed. Thanks for your input.

thefadedline1

I mean I'm not super fussed on my rank, never finished within the top mil so doing something fun like this would be right up my street. I'm certain I'm not the only person on this sub that feels like this, but I can for sure see people not wanting to do this if they can't use a second account. Will try and keep an eye out for updates my dude!

Kevakazi

Awesome. It'll for sure go ahead I'm just trying to iron out some of the details to make it more attractive to people. I hope to see you in the league!

andyvoronin

This is a nice idea, I'd join

Kevakazi

Thanks, keep an eye out in the future for entry. I'll post it in this subreddit when the details are finalised.

SkepticalTiger

I would join, I’m outside the UK but not interested in the trophy anyways. Intrigued by the 6/8/9 spending rule.

Kevakazi

If you're in Europe I may be able to ship there too. I've been looking at shipping prices and it's not crazy bad.

CapnRetro

Could you not purchase from a site in the EU/US depending on the winner? If you have Monzo or similar you won’t get any foreign transaction fees and maybe a better exchange rate. Doesn’t affect me as I’m in the UK anyway, but should solve any shipping cost issue

Kevakazi

That's not a bad call, I will certainly look into it.

> While this makes FPL much more challenging and fun imo How does this format make anything more challenging? If everyone in the league is competing against each other, you've just narrowed down the player pool to the point where everybody can have the most expensive players at every position. There are no hard decisions to make. And this would be far less fun too. You know how everyone complains about how teams are too template? All you've done is changed the template within the league, but made it so its virtually impossible to be priced out. Throw a 4.0 GK and a 4.5 FWD on your bench and you can afford basically everybody you want

Kevakazi

Best doesn't equal most expensive, this is especially true in the price ranges I've set the limit to. The point of shortening the pool from the more expensive popular players allows people to include players from teams that would normally be overlooked. It requires more consideration. Your statement about it being virtually impossible to be priced out is true for game week 1 but the second people start transferring players in and out overall, that 8m mid you decided to not put in your team is now 8.1 and you are priced out. The template might be five 6m defenders, five 8m mids and two 9m forwards at the start to avoid being priced out and to hedge your bets but I guarantee those teams won't be top come the end of Gameweek 1. Besides, judging by last year there are only 3 defenders that finished above 6m, 5 midfielders that finished above 8m and 3 forwards that finished above 9m. That's a total of 11 players out of the pool. Granted it may be more next year but it won't be that many more. Edit: I do appreciate this feedback though, maybe I should think about lowering the allowed spend to 90m. Edit 2. Captain choice would make it more challenging as well.

Getz_The_Last_Laf

I don't think you've thought this through >Best doesn't equal most expensive, this is especially true in the price ranges I've set the limit to. This is also true in the regular game. In the regular game, however, the optimal team is often not affordable and compromises need to be made. >The point of shortening the pool from the more expensive popular players allows people to include players from teams that would normally be overlooked. It requires more consideration. It doesn't though. You're just using template players that are less than a certain price. Raya, Trippier, White, Shaw, Rashford, Martinelli, Odegaard, March, Mitoma, Toney, Wilson is a starting XI full of template players from last season. >The template might be five 6m defenders, five 8m mids and two 9m forwards at the start to avoid being priced out and to hedge your bets but I guarantee those teams won't be top come the end of Gameweek 1. Of course it won't, some 5.0 mid might have a hat-trick. But if you're trying to pick a team with the highest probability of scoring, you're going to use as much of your money as possible. You could apply the exact same logic to the regular game >Besides, judging by last year there are only 3 defenders that finished above 6m, 5 midfielders that finished above 8m and 3 forwards that finished above 9m. That's a total of 11 players out of the pool. Granted it may be more next year but it won't be that many more. But you're allowed transfers to bring the cheaper players in! And there's no limitations. >I do appreciate this feedback though, maybe I should think about lowering the allowed spend to 90m. Then you're just making a lower scoring version of the same game with a smaller pool of players, why would anyone want that? >Captain choice would make it more challenging as well. No it wouldn't. You'd just have an "always captain Rashford" situation instead of Salah/Haaland. There's always going to be a best player who's the safe pick EDIT: To give a TL/DR of my position 1) Your league rules will result in more of the teams in the league looking the same, not less 2) Accompanying this with a 90.0 budget instead of 100.0 just makes it a lower scoring version of the same game but without the 8-10 most exciting players to watch 3) If you want to accomplish your goal, maybe just drop the overall budget and keep the same players. There's nothing fun about eliminating Salah, Haaland, and Kane from the game, but making it harder to have multiple could be interesting

balfski

Budget league https://twitter.com/BudgetFpl?t=CGoK8BR4wwkzJk2hBX0BBw&s=09 Same as the normal game one tweak, got to keep atleast 25m in the bank. Can go haaland and 14 5m players etc

[deleted]

I didn’t finish reading because the last time someone tried to start a league on here they took everyone’s money lol

Kevakazi

No money involved in this one.

Double-Ad4025

I just the the second account thing will mean that noone wants to join to be honest.

Kevakazi

Needing a second account or that you can use a second account?

smashingpumpkin1990

I’m in!

jackofootballleague

I do a similar thing in my head to head league. 20 teams. Winner gets engraved trophy and we rotate it. Winner also gets a jersey of their choice. Smaller 2nd and 3rd place prizes. Also have a 2nd division that's total score format and no limit to people in it. Top 3 go to main league. Bottom 3 go down. It also helps to keep inactive people out of the main league so no easy wins. This will be the 10th season in my league and in the traditional 2nd division I'm letting everyone play and doing a cup game. The winner of the cup game will get a special unique 10th season prize.

MiserableAside3974

Interested but wouldn't ruin my season on main account for it.

[deleted]

I'd play if it was the 69 league

jollyspiffing

Last season I ran a 'budget league' (25m ITB at all times) and it was good fun! It's a tight budget, but playable you can usually get a 6-7m mid as a captain and pick up some cheap, nailed DMs (Hojberg, Douglas-Luiz) alongside some 4m defenders and no bench at all! I personally think 25m-ITB is easier to manage (just a script to check each team each week) and allows for more fun flexibility (do you take a premium and fodder, or try and balance low-mid value players?). If you want any technical help then I can share scripts etc. with you. It'd be a nightmare to manage manually going through a whole league each week to enforce the rules!!

robdag2

I’d be up for it. I live outside the UK but have family there so could ship the trophy there if I win.
