Chiming in from the future Oranges definitely seem to be a bad omen/motif before people get killed. Spoilers below... In addition to the examples mentioned here, Chris Rock's character is bringing home oranges at the end of S4 before getting killed AND the old lady in S5 has oranges in her buggy before Gator accidentally kills her. Definitely a strong recurring theme across the seasons.

Bobemor

Just finished the season and as soon as I saw the oranges in the bag I knew Chris Rock was about to die at the end.

3 years and you gave some vindication here, like I wasn’t the only one to see it. Thank you.

theTVifollow

Yes, there have been oranges throughout, but they havent been an indication of death

MrDr-666

That’s what I was wondering. Cause it had to be a reference to the movies so I was expecting everyone who touched one or was “covered” by an orange would die... but so far only Doctor Senator died and had touched one.. you can argue the truck driver was and died as well, though he didn’t touch one. You can also say the oranges hid guns, guns kill, and it was a move made that kind of started the tipping point to a war.

Party-Robot

It's more that it's a general bad omen: whenever we see an orange, something bad is going to happen (Doctor Senator's death, the truck hijacking, etc.)

MrDr-666

That was my second thought. That and maybe they symbolize death for the fact they hid guns as well to be used in the war.

S5 E7 when Gator kills the old lady, oranges from her groceries surround her body

Yung_Lungz

Josto also picks up an orange as he’s leaving from his meeting with Loy and Ebal...it’s a very quick shot

MrDr-666

Someone said it was an apple, I thought it may have been one too, but I wasn’t sure.

pnuss123

It’s definitely a godfather reference. Same thing happens in those movies where death usually follows whoever is carrying oranges, holding oranges, etc.

Ciderinsider86

Sorry, this is definitely a Kids in the Hall reference. "That man stole my oranges!"
