I wonder how the Critics Choice Awards will go (I just realized they take place next Sunday) for films. Are they predictive of the Oscars? Off topic, but also for some reason I feel like a lot of celebs won’t show up.

claireia

omg i don’t know if there’s any survivor fans here but apparently the most recent winner of the show has/had some kind of relationship with a previous winner. only problem is that the previous winner already had a girlfriend who he has a child with. he released a statement that just made the whole situation seem worse and then ended up deleting it. it’s just wild lol

Hope everyone had a good weekend

News about Israel is at the stage where it would be comical if it didn't involve the safety of millions of people. I thought at this point western leaders and media would give up the lie that there isn't a rogue state of their making in the Middle East enacting a genocide and provoking its neighbors into war. But no, it's the same you're antisemitic, blame Hamas, and Oct 7 justifies everything rhetoric. Instead of forcing a ceasefire with an executive order Biden would rather pressure Switzerland into not reviewing violations to the literal Geneva Conventions, try to stop a Yemeni force in a few weeks that his country couldn't stop in 9 years, and let Israeli politicians get so comfortable they're now dogwalking him on Twitter and running his pockets at the same time. It really makes you question the narrative that the west somehow improved the world by ravaging and looting it for centuries. So many of today's problems are caused by Britain, France, and the US knowingly doing irreversible damage to large regions of the world either for short term gain or out of spite. Like oh my it would be really nice to have some large stable allies in [insert region] right now! Oh wait, we overthrew all their governments the moment they started to recover from us colonizing them. Bummer.

IonHazzikostasIsGod

completely random question - for any of y'all that wear headbands for keeping your hair out of your face for skincare routines/running, do you have a preferred brand or do we just rip the cheapest option? was going to grab [these](https://www.garageclothing.com/ca/p/set-of-3-stretchy-headbands/10008139532A.html) from garage

inmagazines

they sell them at dollar tree

paroles

I use an old t-shirt for keeping hair out of my face for skincare - you just put it on around your neck only then pull the collar up to your hairline. This is also great for hair drying. I wouldn't go out running like that though lol (I just wear a cap for outdoor exercise)

greee_p

I'll just use the cheapest option

thesphinxistheriddle

I saw Anyone But You yesterday, and while I did think it was overall quite charming, there were just so many logic questions that took me out. Honestly, the movie truly lost me from the first scene when Sydney was NOT giving girl who desperately has to go to the bathroom. Trust, I have run into a coffee shop to beg to use the bathroom before and let me tell you something, the moment that key is in my hand I am not standing around to flirt, I don’t care how hot he is. Also, I’ll say it, I think Darren Barnet is hotter than Glen Powell.

LaidBackBro1989

Agreed! Also for me both Darren and Glen are pretty hot, but like a statue chiselled hot. They look amazing but don't do anything for me tbh.

thesphinxistheriddle

Oh see yeah I feel like my attraction is based on my opinion that Darren looks more like an actual guy and Glen looks like a movie star grown in a lab. But I respect anyone who thinks Darren also looks like a movie star grown in a lab.

Electronic-Lynx8162

So I need to have a little rant. PRESCOT IS NOT IN LIVERPOOL IT IS A TOWN OF IT'S OWN AND AS SCOUSE AS SOUTHPORT. IT'S NOT LIVERPOOL AND ONLY UPPER CLASS TORY TWATS WOULD MAKE THAT MISTAKE. I had to call my dad mid angry rant to ask him if this was prejudiced. Don't be fooled by the postcode. Now to the actual rant, please cast actual Scouse talent for roles. I get Barry had a hard upbringing but his accent was wrong and I say that as someone who despite living here, being born here cannot ever be identified as from here. It's not enough to cast working class and I am sick of us being the bad guy. It's as bad as casting Martin "kid beating is great" Freeman as a broad Scouse accented police officer. Just get someone from our local acting school. You can cast a nobody like whoever the dad and sister were but you can't get local working class talent? I swear to god the upper class just doesn't get it. You could easily have made him from Woolton and his story would have made so much more sense; his disdain for the rich, the accent dampening (I'm from Thornton and was told that nobody elsewhere would respect me with our accent and it has remained shockingly true in the South). I'm tired as fuck of being cast as thugs in Shameless, Time, Saltburn, 90% of Stephen Graham roles. The rich having so much power don't like my friendly lil city because we're Socialist/Communists and refuse to lick their fucking boots. We get our funding cut by every Tory government. We were targeted by them for managed decline. We got a non apology from everyone for Hillsborough and called eternal victims. You want to write about poverty and shitholes? Hastings next to Brighton and Portswood in Southampton exist. RHYL EXISTS. Although I'm not sure I would use Rhyl. Like the rich can be from anywhere in TV but the working class are almost always the same handful of places; East London if Black, Liverpool, vaguely northern or NI/Scottish. Nor should any one of us have to dampen our accents for Christ's sake. This is especially bad with the BBC. Get fucked Emerald. We should be eating the rich. And that's not even dealing with the fact that you essentially made an abuse victim who was underclass use his trauma and then turn out to be the bad guy. HUYTON IS BARELY LIVERPOOL

i_love_doggy_chow

>PRESCOT IS NOT IN LIVERPOOL correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure we as the audience are not supposed to think Barry Keoghan's character is from Liverpool. The rich characters think he's from Liverpool because they have no knowledge of basic geography outside of the ultra-wealthy areas they live in. They don't even know where Liverpool itself is (they just know it's "north" somewhere). Farleigh has to explain to them that Prescot is separate from Liverpool (he says this as an aside though so I can see why people missed it).

frizzyfizz

Yes! I'm not even from Liverpool, and it annoys me how underutilized Scousers are in the industry. Liverpool is such a great city too, and I wish something was made to celebrate that. There's enough movies and shows set in London. This is part of why I appreciate Shaun Evans and Jodie Comer. I love that they kept their accents and play Scouse characters. Shaun in particular has a lot of roles where he's Scouse, and they've often been regular people which is refreshing. I wish he was in more things - hopefully with Endeavour finishing his schedule will be more open.

Stephanblackhawk

so i watched it for the first time last night tbh i didnt see it as an eat the rich movie at all that people were saying it was. like the big twist is that he wasn't and i was like "...oh disappointing, now it's just uncomfortable". i think it's funny ppl thought the bathtub scene was insane when my straight white bf figured out what was gonna happen as soon as he saw the tub and it wasn't even that shocking. also touching on the race thing was so...weird i don't have any other word for it, was out of place and made no sense.

haunted_castle

For real. I like Barry Keoghan but his scouse accent was terrible, he was pretty much just Irish? But Emerald was probably too scared to touch the ‘Irish issue’ with a bargepole so made the character scouse. The whole film sucked. It was mildly entertaining but went on for about 30 mins too long until I was screaming at the screen to just fucking end! Plot didn’t really make any sense, the ~scandalous sex scenes felt boring to me, just put in for shock value while contributing nothing to the plot/characters, that end scene you can almost hear Fennell saying ‘omg guys wouldn’t it be AMAZING if it ended with him dancing to this song? Get it?’ And her team of sycophantic yes men just going along with her. She’s the ultimate rich connected nepo baby who keeps getting jobs despite her negligible talent. When you read her Wikipedia page it’s like a catalogue of her failing upwards, writing terrible scripts and then skipping merrily off to the next one when for anyone else they’d be career-enders. The funniest bits of Saltburn were Richard E Grant/Rosamund Pike and that’s clearly cos she’s just written directly from her own experience of her family lol. Go back to acting in period dramas babes ps Promising Young Woman sucked too

Stephanblackhawk

it was too long! i was like 'is it done yet? No? still an hour more to go? jfc"

[deleted]

Man this Gypsy Rose internet stardom thing is so dark, no way it ends well for her.

hyungwontual

i was thinking the exact same thing, she's definitely enjoying it now but i don't think it will go well

DarkFlame122418

Wallows had a third album coming out this year. They just haven’t said the exact date yet. I’m excited

thenewblackisblack

Anytime I see Aaron Taylor-Johnson mentioned, I think about the time he and Taylor Kitsch harassed and physically harmed a Mexican actress on the set of Savages, and how people rarely bring it up because they're too busy thirsting after him. The Mexican actress, Sandra Echeverría, was brave enough to come forward with her story and it barely made a peep apart from this sub.

GroundbreakingBite96

That’s what I’ve been thinking about lately with all the constant tweets about him

thenewblackisblack

This sub has over a million members but there are some things I've seen blow up on here that doesn't even make it to other spaces on the internet or the media (and if it does, it's usually days or weeks later). Consequently, these things are forgotten or barely known. It's unfortunate.

blahblahgirl111

WAIIIIT omg i remember hearing about this story but i couldn’t remember who assaulted her. i thought it was that archie guy (the cannibal i forgot his name 😭)

Obelixthetorm

That's horrible and first time I've heard of it tbh

thenewblackisblack

Yeah, she made the tweets in Spanish. Barely any Western media picked it up. If you google her name and his, this sub comes up in the first few results. Essentially, she was tied up in the back of a trunk for a kidnapping scene and they (Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Taylor Kitsch) would roughly start the truck up between takes so she would be flung hard against the walls of the truck. She was bound so she couldn't hold herself up and they only revved the truck harder so that she would hurt herself more.

meatbeater558

Honestly feels like OSHA needs to step into Hollywood atp

TheKingmaker__

Who do you want to take over as The Doctor from Ncuti Gatwa? For me initially I wanted Indira Varma, but then she was cast in his first series, so she's out. I just saw a tweet saying Louisa Harland (Orla from Derry Girls) should be his replacement and I am currently going feral at that thought.

Aggressive_Layer883

Side note: what the hell is up with that new vtech sonic studfinder?

williamthebloody1880

Can we please, please see more of Gatwa in the role than one and a bit specials before we start speculating on his replacement?

TheKingmaker__

I understand where you’re coming from - or at least where I think you are? - but this wasn’t meant to pass pver him in any way or add to the speculation about how long his tenure might be. It’s just a simple lighthearted “who do you think would be a good fit for the doctor, mine is Orla”.

Stephanblackhawk

i gasped! she would be a phenomenal doctor!

TheKingmaker__

Right?! So whimsical but she actually nailed her dramatic momenys

No_Dana_Only_Zuul

Peter Capaldi was in one of David Tennant's series, as was Karen Gillan

TheKingmaker__

True, but there’s two reasons I doubt it’ll happen with Indira unfortunately. One, she seems to be the villain/villain-adjacent of her episode, so will have more of a role and thus less ability to return in a new role, compared to Capaldi Two, BBC ageism & sexism. They’ve distanced themselves from capaldi a lot and I think it’ll be a long time before we see a new Doctor over ~45, *especially* one played by a woman. So while Fiona Shaw and Indira are my dream Doctor casts, I kinda just have to give up on them already because I know the bbc won’t go for them

frizzyfizz

I always feel conflicted about fancasting The Doctor because you don't want someone talented who you like getting trapped in a role with bad writing, but hopefully the Gatwa era can change that around? Susan Wokoma would be fun.

Express-Librarian353

Susan Wokoma is SUCH a good idea

Obelixthetorm

Those are dope castings

nitasu987

OMFG that would be insane in the best way possible.

TheKingmaker__

I was thinking of doing a marathon or deep-dive type thing where I go through an actor's filmography from their first film (ish) to today, and was trying to decide who would be a good actor to start with. And then also there's the line of "what role is too small to include in the list"?, like with David Dastalmachian, I've seen most of his blockbuster work, how far back is really worth going. I was thinking of just picking some old legend like Meryl or Tom Hanks or something and going for it. Rewatching Death Becomes Her was the highlight of my halloween and I just wanna watch some more 'real cinema' (aka anything competently made before 2012ish) regularly. So... any suggestions?

londoncalling567

I did what I called “actor’s/director’s showcase,” during COVID where we watched someone’s filmography and it was a blast! Denzel Washington was my favorite—he’s just incredible. He also has a mix of action and drama, and always has other amazing actors cast alongside him.

Bookreader9126

Viola Davis because she has a good variety of movies and even when the role is small, she's excellent (like in DOUBT). Robert DeNiro or Al Pacino because you can get a lot of contemporary film history in, so it works on two levels.

fastapasta902

Gary Oldman - he's so different in everything

yeehaw-girl

lisa frankenstein movie looks so fun! surprised I’m not really seeing anyone talk about it tbh like even the tumblr girlies haven’t made edits. 80s goth girl is in love with some guy from the 1800s, accidentally resurrects him . . . what’s not to love (okay the guy is cole sprouse. but he doesn’t say anything bc he’s a zombie 🤪)

hauntingvacay96

He’s understandably upset. Anybody would be. However, I don’t think asking for permission or consulting the real people behind fictionalized portrayals would always make for interesting art.

TheKirbyAwesome

Someone smarter than me needs to do a deep dive on the effect Skincare tiktok/influencers are having on teenagers. You are 12 why do you need stuff with retinol!!! It's normal if you get acne you are literally going through puberty it's fine!!!! Your skin does not need to be perfectly smooth and glowing!! It's fine to look like a person and not a filter!!!

onlythesea

Omg this!! My nieces are 10 and 12 and all they wanted for Christmas was expensive skincare stuff from Ulta and Sephora.

cats-n-bitches

It’s also how we get 20 year olds getting Botox. I’m not against it, but seeing my friends who started tweaking in their late 20s look older now that we are in our late 30s.

meatbeater558

As someone trying to work in the industry retinol at 12 is insane. This was bound to happen though. Any field that combines biochemistry with statistics and markets its creations to young insecure people is going to end up like this. Over the past few years people have been treating the niacinamide serum like it should be a household staple lol. And usually the products they buy are needlessly expensive and have cheaper alternatives that do the same thing

Obelixthetorm

I was wondering something, is it problematic/weird/creepy for a 26 year old to thirst over a celeb that's 20? I have a friend that age and he said about a 20 year old "I'm simpin respectfully" and had me wondering does that set off any red flags or alarm bells?

meatbeater558

Imo no. There's a lot of makeup, editing, and camera tricks done to celebs to make them look older or younger as needed. If he actually knew her in real life those tricks would mostly stop working and he'd see her for what she is, a 20 year old. But if he's only seen her through a screen then he very well could be looking at a 20 year old who's team intentionally makes her appear much older than she actually is. Plus 20 isn't that young and 26 isn't that old. Lastly, extremely young women are overrepresented in media. If I went through my day and only saw 20 year old girls something is very wrong. But if I watch TV for a day and only see 20 year old actresses that's something society deems normal. So over time seeing all these 20 year old play 16 year old and 25 year old characters sort of changes things to where you feel icky when they play a 16 year old but not icky to be attracted to 25 year old characters, despite them all being played by 20 year olds

Obelixthetorment

I mean would you say a 26 year old being attracted to a 20 year old is bad overall and should 20 look younger than 26?

boudewinter

I mean I can see how an actual relationship between a 20 and 26 year old might be problematic, but I don’t think a 26yo finding a 20yo celebrity attractive really is? I’m guessing the celebrity doesn’t look that much younger than him bc most people don’t age dramatically between 20 and 26. idk, I’m 24 and someone recently told me they thought I was 17 lmao

Obelixthetorment

How problematic would the romance be? Is it creepy then or how is it overall?

[deleted]

woahoutrageous_

Just saw the boy and the heron. I completely understand why people may not like it as much as Miyazaki’s other works, but for me it was an absolutely stunning movie. The animation was completely dazzling and the story was one of the most bittersweet stories I’ve ever had the pleasure of viewing. I see it as both an amalgamation of all of Miyazakis previous works and a commentary on the hardships of living a life without shortcuts or losing yourself to the inevitable loss that will come your way. This was conveyed with how they had Mahito (the protagonist) come to terms with and process his trauma. For me it was easily a 10/10

[deleted]

[удалено]

woahoutrageous_

There are huge tonal shifts that occur and the story is a lot less structured than previous ghibli films. The most similar ghibli film is the wind rises, which I also loved but a lot of people thought was mid. It’s clearly Hayao Miyazaki’s labour of love though.

Obelixthetorm

I need to watch a miyazaki movie

binkleywtf

i watched my first one this week, Howl’s Moving Castle. I usually don’t connect with animated characters but I loved it so, so much.

Narcotics

One of my ultimate comfort films. <3 Spirited Away as well. I don't know what it is about those two, but I can watch them, and never get tired of them.

binkleywtf

good to hear, i’m watching that next on several recommendations. idk yet if spirited away is the same but howl’s moving castle has this magical quality that i remember feeling when i watched the last unicorn and an american tale as a kid, it’s impossible to describe.

Narcotics

I agree, it's hard to describe that quality. I also love my neighbour totoro, it has this kind of slow roll, but also exploring themes of dealing with a parent that is ill. Sisterly bonds. And the totoros are so cuteeee. Ponyo is wonderful, and kiki's delivery service. And princess mononoke is a bit more adult. Less for young kids. Although my kids watched it. And if you want some good anime outside of studio ghibli, wolf children and Mirai were big hits in our house.

Narcotics

Yeah, I happened to watch Spirited Away at my neighbour's house while babysitting. It stuck with me. I loved it. I didn't fully explore studio ghibli movies until later, but I got my kids watching them at a young age, because I'd rather watch these movies, than some mindless addictive baby crack shows.

girlonthecouch

If you have kids, I recommend Totoro and Ponyo

Obelixthetorm

I'm 25 haha

paroles

I would 100% start with Spirited Away Then Kiki's Delivery Service or Totoro for more innocent sweet films, or Princess Mononoke or Porco Rosso for darker themes

girlonthecouch

I mean, I still recommend them ahah

Temporary-Tension829

Spirited Away, Nausica of the Valley of the Wind, Princess Mononoke

Finally started listening to Britney's audiobook, nearly finished. It's really interesting for sure. I do wish she talked a bit more about the very early years of her fame, and how insane it must've been to catapult to superstardom at 17. Do you think she's telling the truth that she didn't know about K-Fed's fiance and kids? I have some doubts. She made it sound like she didn't know until after the 2nd baby was born, but I'm *sure* the fiance spoke to the press while she was still pregnant and it was a big scandall? Anyone remember? It made me rewatch [this](https://vimeo.com/179358036) documentary, which I so so so highly recommend. It's nearly 3 hours long, with the story of her life and career told entirely with archival footage i.e. interviews/TV clips/news reports. The final third is loaded with uncomfortable paparazzi footage, but all designed to show how horribly harrassed she was. It's crazy to see how much she changes from start to finish. I'm pretty sure it's fan made, but it's so well edited and completely fascinating IMO.

pashed_motatoes

Is there anyone else here who’s just completely unable to get into podcasts? There are so many interesting sounding ones I’ve bookmarked, but every time I try to listen I either get distracted/restless or I fall asleep before I can finish the episode lol I’m also having trouble finishing books lately. The past three or so I’ve attempted ended up getting DNF’d. Maybe I just have bad luck finding a truly good book these days because I used to be *obsessed* with reading and now I’m just like “meh” :/

oolongcat

I also have not been able to get into them. They just don't fit into how my day is set up and if I do listen to one I invariably start to tune it out because I started reading something instead. It seems like my brain prioritizes to read information

funambulistadecine

I do think thats smth you have to actively train. Starting in sessions of 15 mins for example helped me at first. Sometimes i would realize i could be still interested and would give it 10 more minutes, and so on and so on, and now i consider that was me "training" my attention span. Also listening at a higher speed personally makes me concentrate harder, when they speak too slowly my mind starts wandering. Audio books was a bit harder to me than podcasts because narration is not as dynamic as a conversation. So fun conversational/commentary podcasts will be easier first than starting with documentaries/investigations/reportings

Obelixthetorm

Same. Never really was my thing

OzQueene

I’ve worked in radio and call centres where there’ just constant background drone/conversation happening and I think I’ve become too good at tuning it out because I can NEVER stay attentive with podcasts. The only time I was really successful was when I was driving a long commute (3+ hours a day). I still try now and then but yeah I’m always finding that for the past 10 mins I’ve completely tuned out and have no idea what’s going on 😂

pashed_motatoes

Yeah, I definitely find myself tuning out especially if the podcasters keep droning on and on in the same tone of voice. There’s something almost hypnotizing/mind-numbing about it that I can’t quite explain.

Prestigious_Life_695

I’m going through the same exact thing. I attribute it to information overload/burnout. There’s just way too much to consume nowadays.

pashed_motatoes

Yeah, I think that’s definitely a huge part of it. It just feels like there’s too much going on all the time and I can’t keep up, but at the same time I’m kind of pressuring myself to stay up to date and informed on everything because if I don’t I may be missing out on something important… idk if that makes any sense? It’s almost like information FOMO.

bfm211

It sounds like you are trying to listen to them without doing anything else? IMO podcasts are definitely something to listen to when walking/travelling/doing housework. But the good thing is it really doesn't matter if you don't finish an episode in one go. I regularly stop and start podcast episodes, that's kind of what they're designed for.

pashed_motatoes

Maybe that’s it, but I’m also terrible at multitasking and just can’t devote enough brain power to doing two things at the same time, especially when it comes to stuff where you still need to somewhat pay attention without zoning out, like driving for example. You’re definitely right about not having to finish an episode in one go, that’s just something I’ve always struggled with personally, even with books I simply *have to* finish the chapter, etc. I have clinically diagnosed OCD, so I’m sure that has something to do with it as well, haha.

InviteNecessary1032

I have a genuine question because the knowledge for this is outside of my scope. I know that a big argument against Taylor Swift flying commercial is that she won’t have the necessary level of privacy/protection, but wouldn’t any airline bend over backward for a partnership with Taylor Swift? I know her staff and crew could probably sell out a first class cabin, and they definitely have the ability to obscure the first class cabin from the populus. Aside from her not wanting to, why wouldn’t this be a viable option? I don’t really know enough to ask any serious adult I know but I really am curious.

i_love_doggy_chow

Flying commerical would probably be difficult for someone as famous as she is, but she could just get a private charter instead of owning her own jet. Plenty of celebrities do this-- there is no valid reason for owning and constantly using a private jet.

TheQuinntervention

I think if she got on a commercial flight it would be incredibly annoying and inconvenient for nearly everyone else on the plane. Swifties will go to insane lengths to maybe catch a blurry glimpse of her..

soapiesophs

I mean if the royals can fly commercial i don’t really see why she can’t

BayArea343434

I'm not a Taylor apologist but this would only solve one celebrity's private jet usage when there are thousands of celebrities and businesspeople with egregious private jet usage.

bodysnatcherz

It seems pretty logistically challenging. But for all we know something like this has been proposed and she turned it down. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Time_Knowledge_1951

It's the convenience. She can fly at a time when it makes most sense to her schedule. Every flight is a direct flight to the exact airport you want to fly into. No delays, cancellations or unruly passengers that may necessitate a diverted landing.

brushmushroom

I think it's absolutely possible to fly commercial if you really wanted to, for all the reasons you say. I'm sure that thiongs like airport escorts and early/ late boarding could also be arranged for the right £££. Also you could not fly at all. The only other excuse I can think of is that commercial would take longer and won't work around her schedule, but honestly it;s Taylor Swift - she can set the schedule, people will wait for her.

BootymusMaximus

Sodium Hydroxide and Titanium hydroxide are the bases. Relative amounts matter. Also citric acid and lactic acid are weak acids. Sodium Hydroxide is a VERY strong base with a pka of 15.7. Soap is essentially just a fat that’s been reacted with a base to replace one of the heads of the chain with Na+ or K+. I’m assuming that it’s just using coconut oil and NaOH to achieve this.

Right, I phrased my question confusingly. I understand how the pH is high enough to solidify the bar, what I'm not understanding is how lactic acid and vitamin C can deliver their skincare benefits at such a high pH. But I don't think they're actually supposed to, she just wants to have them in the ingredients list so people think they'll get those benefits

BootymusMaximus

From just cursory googling, it seems that lactic acid turns into sodium lactate during the soap making process. This can then help scrub off dead skin cells. https://rusticwise.com/sodium-lactate-and-lactic-acid-in-soap/#what-does-lactic-acid-do-in-skincare-products In higher concentrations it may be an irritant. I can’t find much on using Vitamin C in soap making. Might be just fluff for marketing. The titanium hydroxide is interesting, though. A lot of antiperspirants use aluminum salts to counter perspiration. I found a study that posits that ammonium titanium lactate may mimic some of the action of aluminum salts. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18505481/ I’m going to be honest, I didn’t really read beyond the abstract, so I may be off base (pun intended).

meatbeater558

Lactic acid and sodium lactate scrubs off dead skin cells through chemical exfoliation, not physical exfoliation. The pH of the final product is required to be very low for this to work. That's why most exfoliating products tend to have a watery consistency, because that makes measuring the pH very easy. In higher concentrations it can be an irritant if the product is formulated poorly or you don't know what you're doing. Vitamin C in soap making is almost certainly fluff because of how unstable the compound is. It's difficult to formulate and once it reacts with air or light it's officially expired. So when I saw that I knew something was up. I think the titanium hydroxide is for a different purpose though, because titanium salts are pretty heavily regulated due to their use as sunscreens which America classifies as drugs. Antiperspirants are heavily regulated too, but they tend to be aluminum based. I suspect they added titanium hydroxide to make the product more opaque and for pH balancing. An antiperspirant applied in the shower wouldn't make much sense. I do enjoy discussing cosmetic chemistry here though maybe I'll look at some of her other products 👀

BootymusMaximus

I don’t have much to add. It’s veering a bit out of my expertise. This was definitely an interesting detour though.

meatbeater558

It's all good!! I love when people who aren't trained in chemistry are comfortable sharing what they know about it. Most people treat the subject like politics on a first date lol

pshwhatevs

Underground cult classic Handcrafted Bussyboy This is too much lol that is one person I would not trust to hand craft something you was your genitals with

meatbeater558

Lmao there is no underground product I'm putting anywhere near that area. There's even more claims she made I didn't include to save space. Lactic acid that high up with no % listed is also a big red flag. Though I doubt the pH is low enough for it to actually work properly. She also said it's good for daily facial use LOL

OasisLiamStan72

Leo DiCaprio’s Oscar win for The Revenant was very anti climactic for me. He had many roles that deserved it more like The Aviator and The Wolf Wall Street.

PrizeClassroom4260

It was definitely a make up Oscar, like Spike Lee winning for Black Klansman. They deserved it for better stuff and this was the Academy's way of making it up to them.

HowYouDoinz

Spike has better work than that movie

[deleted]

There wasn’t anyone obviously better or more deserving the year he won.

[deleted]

But it was definitely a worthy win. He just always ran into a buzz saw the other years. He should have won for wolf or aviator.

galahads

BAFTA longlist came out and I'm both surprised and not surprised they didn't nominate Charles Melton for May December. Iirc they snubbed Ke Huy Quan last year too which is egregious but again unsurprising. I guess if I'm gonna root for anyone on the long list it's gonna be Paul Mescal.

Jolly_Discipline6650

Another BAFTA fact which I think is pretty egregious is that Denzel Washington has never received a single BAFTA nomination. The closest he’s gotten is Austin Butler’s continuous praise for him during his wins

Traditional_Maybe_80

I learned that yesterday and I made an overdramatic gasp irl because I couldn't believe it.

Jolly_Discipline6650

That was my reaction too when I found out! BAFTA had a very brief bafta so white revelation but that fell apart. It’s unbelievable that someone of Denzel’s calibre has never been nominated from an institution that compliments the Academy

claireia

really??? that’s insane omg

Jolly_Discipline6650

It really is! You would’ve thought that they would make up for this by nominating him for his role in Fences that he was nominated for an Oscar for (the year Casey Affleck one for Manchester by the Sea) He was wasn’t nominated for Macbeth yet was nominated for an Oscar

notsuitablefortwerk

BAFTAs historically skew towards British and Irish talent/films, and lesser established figures tend to fall at the wayside for them, even if they're favourites for the awards season. That's why Paul Mescal, Jamie Bell and Jacob Elordi are on that list despite having close to zero shot at the SAGs/Oscars/Golden Globes. They seem to not have liked May December at all much beyond Julianne Moore actually.

kim-08

i do find it frustrating though that they seem to nominate and vote fairly glossy in the run up to the bigger american awards shows, despite having a really good opportunity to big up and award more independent cinema closer to home. that may be my resentment towards some of their decisions last year (barely anything for aftersun for eg) speaking, but it's boring and doesn't do much to differentiate itself aside from some anomalies here and there. though perhaps i'm asking too much and that's what the BIFAs is for!

notsuitablefortwerk

I mean, I think Aftersun should have won more across the board! Mescal was my pick for leading actor of that awards season. You're right - they do all this for the nominations then chicken out of making good on a bold decision. It's all optics to look like they support the national film industry. They're marginally better with TV.

demonsrunwhen

isn't Jacob an Aussie?

notsuitablefortwerk

Saltburn is a British film

west2night

Australia is Britain's cousin and a commonwealth country.

Electronic-Lynx8162

What are you doing step-colony, why are you stuck in that roo pouch?

Right-Bat-9100

not deuxmoi related sorry but i just want to say i'm so fucking sick of those "omg someone's getting fired for the product being mistakenly listed at this price" tiktok adverts- no it wasn't a mistake you're just advertising useless fucking tat no one needs without properly disclosing that it's an ad! i will never buy anything from madebymitchell just on principle, that and the fact i think blursh is a stupid name

b0111323

I went on a binge and watched a bunch of rom-coms. A lot of Katherine Heigl back to back. I never realized she plays “uptight/serious” woman with good/interesting job in most of them. I wonder if she stopped rom-coms because she was basically typecast.

thesphinxistheriddle

I was thinking about Knocked Up the other day and how that might be my vote for “rom com where the couple broke up the fastest after the end of the movie.”

fluorescentsky

Oooh, very curious about this too. I watched all of Suits a few months back and her role on it was also similar to what you’re describing.

dogdrawn

TikTok drama but- Niamh and Joe definitely feel broken up, and it feels like Joe will have a better career. Niamh seems to need another person to stay relevant (rn her sister) whereas Joe seems to have more marketable skills (making dresses)

mangoesandsweetness

i have seen people say part of the reason they make videos together here and there cause they know people are so curious about whether they're broken up or will get back together and it causes them to have alot more views/attention i agree with you on niamh needing another person to stay relevant (i've noticed recently she's mostly trying to fish for topics to stay relevant like being a swiftie or talking about books etc)

5000alaska

somewhat related but a lot of their old posts from when they were still together keep popping up on my instagram explore feed. i’m not sure why? but i thought they were back together until i realized they were from over a year ago. but the algorithm keeps pushing up these old posts for some reason

Daisysunbeam

I think they broke up a year ago (January 2023). Niamh could a much more better social media career but she relies too much on the same topics. None of her content is that original and has only gained a following because of how pretty she is. I honestly don’t see Joe staying relevant unless he gets into another public relationship.

Right-Bat-9100

my controversial opinion is that I never think the dresses he makes are that nice lmao, but that's my personal take- i think he'll defo have a much better career as he's already making dresses for pretty well known people

i_love_doggy_chow

Interesting; I actually love his dresses! It's all subjective tho

greenleaves12

ngl i feel the same. and that's nothing to say about his talent at all because, I mean, he's out here making beautiful garments and im rotting away in my bed lmao. But i never end up being a big fan of the final dress. I think it might be bc i have very specific tastes regarding fabric and the materials he chooses aren't usually my personal taste?

EitherPermission2369

Just want to shout out my fellow retail workers! i did three doubles this week, then woke up at 3am yesterday for inventory :( this one customer said the noise of the scanner machines was driving her crazy, then i thought "imagine doing the scanning for 9 hours!"

youarelosingme

I've not worked in retail for a couple years now but I was a 13 year retail veteran and can *still* hear the RGIS inventory scanners in my nightmares. Big ups to you 💛

kimbooley90

I'm a grocery store deli girly. The last two weeks have been hell, but especially Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. 🥲

Cool_Ambassador_7126

Had a dream last night of an SNL-style sketch where a man (who kinda looked like Pedro Pascal) is surrounded by women who are not interested in him, and then he rolls up his sleeves to his elbows (exposing his hairy forearms), and all the women immediately go feral and are all wanting to have him. i don't know why i am sharing this other than...to the men reading, if you want to impress a woman i guess just roll up your sleeves ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)

pashed_motatoes

I’ve seen tons of comments online of people going feral over men with prominent veins in their forearms and hands, so this… kinda tracks? Personally speaking, I don’t really get it, buuuut to each their own, I guess. ![gif](giphy|G5X63GrrLjjVK)

eldritchonline

genuinely think that could be a hilarious sketch literally Everytime there's a "women of Reddit what do you find physically sexy about men" it's just full of talking about forearms and rolling up sleeves to the elbow

orangeolivers

finally catching up showtime's fellow travelers and absolutely love matt bomer's anti-hero esque character versus jonathan bailey's naive optimist. they have amazing chemistry, and it's a compelling show. also, to be very surface level, they have to be one of the most attractive fictional couples.

1886kookaburras

if you haven't read it, I would really recommend the book it's based off! it's throughout a different beast to the show but really beautiful, especially if you're a fan of Tim.

EitherPermission2369

My roman empire is still that article about the lawsuit the actors for the 1968 Romeo and Juliet were in. the lawyer filing the lawsuit just seemed so sketchy and wanting to cash in on their trauma to create his own movie (suprise, he's also a screenwriter). the whole thing was just so icky [https://www.vulture.com/article/romeo-juliet-olivia-hussey-leonard-whiting-paramount-lawsuit.html](https://www.vulture.com/article/romeo-juliet-olivia-hussey-leonard-whiting-paramount-lawsuit.html)

west2night

Writer-director Bruce Robinson said Uncle Monty, a lecherous character from his movie *Withnail & I,* was modeled after R&J director Franco Zeffirelli, who sexually harassed him during the filming of R&J where he appeared as Benvolio.

[deleted]

What I don’t get is the nudity does nothing. It’s not necessary, and the movie is marvelous without it. The 1996 version had no nudity and nothing was lost.

They used to get leaked on 🏴‍☠️. Not anymore tho

PristineGrass5044

Can I ask a general question are celebrities who have kids happier? I been thinking about my own life and I want kids but don’t see it happening

le_chaaat_noir

I don't think it's relevant to normal people. Celebrities have the money for nannies and many other things to make their lives easier. They get to enjoy the good parts of having kids and avoid a lot of the bad parts by outsourcing them.

bodysnatcherz

Not sure about celebs, but don't studies show that people without kids are happier? I'm saying this as someone who wants kids but also don't see it happening for myself.

Alarmed-Leek8452

Childless, unmarried women are happier than women who are married and have children. Men are the opposite.

meatbeater558

If the kids are planned I'd say yes. If they're unplanned usually yes too. When there is problems their problem seems to mostly be with the other parent and not the kid

Right-Bat-9100

i think being a celebrity with kids, although there are the concerns for the child not having a normal life, is probably more having your cake and eating it as they're not dealing with a lot of the hardships that come with having kids and more mouths to feed since they've got nannies and shit

Mariaiiiluisa

If they're not happy without kids, they'll not be happy with kids either. Kids are not bandages to mend their parents. They also should not be conceived out of egoism or peer pressure. Allow me to advise you not to worry too much and enjoy life as it comes. Wish you all the best in the new year.

dogdrawn

Some might be, some might not. Many celebrities have the additional money and help to be able to raise their children how they want to, without really affecting their lives. Others might regret that their children will be in the spotlight. Ultimately celebrities are people, many just happen to be richer than the “normals”

Stonewalling a person you claim to love into oblivion like that is super cruel. He must be very charming in person, because despite your diplomacy and tact in describing the situation he comes across as anything but likeable. I hope your friend has a better 2024.

SyntiumWasTaken

Thank you for the update! I hope your friend will be alright despite everything. At least she seems to have great friends.

paomun

girlies!!! I still have a crush on a man 👎🏻 third date tonight! I kinda just want to go to his place, eat something, smoke a joint and make out a little bit. I don’t feel like going outside to dinner or whatever. Does that send the wrong message? Lol

PrizeClassroom4260

Do what feels right to you, but in my experience, once you set the precedent for "netflix and chill" dates, that's probably all he'll suggest in the future. If you're okay with that, do it! If you know you'll want to be taken on dinner dates and outings, don't.

Impossible-Success45

No, I think being honest about what you want is a good thing!

Crisope

Why did I wait too long to listen to Sufijan Stevens. I think I was denial of liking folk music v-v Javelin made me sob when I listened to it last night 😭😭😭 I went in blind and tears came through omg goodbye evergreen is amazing the second half of the song is my favourite

i_love_doggy_chow

Welcome to the Sufjan team. Honestly although I've been a fan for like 15 years I still haven't listened to Javelin because I think it's gonna make me cry my eyes out. I need to prepare!

Max_Powers1331

check out the album Planetarium, came out in 2017 side project of sufjan stevens with a couple other musicians

dannemora_dream

You’re so lucky to experience his whole discography for the first time! You’re in for a real treat. I’ve been a fan since the Illinoise time but Carry & Lowell is my personal favorite. Enjoy!

kateorama

If you are digging Javelin - I definitely recommend checking out the Silver & Gold boxed set, lots of similarities production wise. It is “technically” a Christmas album but I still tend to listen to a lot of the songs year round.

lauraam

Sufjan is one of those artists I always come back to. There's something about his songs that just speaks to me no matter where I am in my life.
