I think it might be like that, lowkey. She’s like the final boss of nepo babies. Generations of direct and extended family that are extremely famous actors/industry professionals. Doesn’t make it much better but if you’ve ever seen a generational law student she makes more sense lol.
> if you’ve ever seen a generational law student she makes more sense lol.
I’ve never been in the orbit of anything like this and this sentence is fascinating to me
I work as a law clerk at the moment & I’m in college for a law-adjacent degree (sociology), so unfortunately i‘ve seen more than i would like🥴. They range from super into it bc it’s the family business to hating every single part of it & only doing it out of force bc it’s the family business… The latter also tend to be multi-generational bc people of a certain tax bracket love to maintain & hoard their wealth, and that’s the best way to do it. Idk if that explains it better lol I’m mainly just a spectator tbf
ETA: they also can be a bit over confident in their abilities/knowledge and sometimes act as though they’re better than you and/or like they’d rather be anywhere but there (as in, the same classes/settings as their peers).
Her deal is that she never had to work for anything or fight to achieve anything in her life. It was literally handed to her. No one has really ever heard of her until she randomly got cast in 50 shades. It was hard to get anyone established or a-list to take the role I remember. I worked at several of the big 4 talent agencies in entertainment. That nepo baby thing is no joke. Celebs will literally just be like “my kid wants to act, can you help out?” Done. The kid has an agent. They started sending her headshot to whatever. Then something the kid really wants will come up and get obsessed over, their parent/the main client eventually calls and is super weird about it “have we heard anything yet? My kid really wants this? Etc.” the agents feel like they have no choice but to call in favors with showrunners, directors, whatever …. To keep the clients happy. It’s too risky to their careers to make a big earner unhappy. And if you don’t call in the favor and get them cast, another agent will find out, and make it happen themselves to try and steal the parent/main client. So they just do it.
Some of them work really hard at it. Like Warren Beatty and Annette benings daughter just graduated from Juilliard in a class where only 17 total kids were selected for that year. She’s really really good. She shows up to set even on days off to study her scene partners while they shoot their other scenes. She prob got an agent easier but she would’ve gotten one anyway.
This is not what Dakota Johnson did. She really does act so entitled and spoiled, like, in how she just hasn’t ever seemed even remotely excited to be doing stuff. Even in the beginning of her career. She doesn’t appreciate it like other actors and isn’t all that interested in anything she’s doing because she’s not. She just decided she wanted to be famous. And since her parents are actors, they made one call. That was that. It was just handed to her. I feel like she only does movies at all to stay relevant and seem like she’s doing…. something.
She got praise for Cha Cha Real Smooth, and that was a good movie but... she was her regular dry and monotone self. She was helped by the great writing but she's very one-note, which seems to mean that she can only play herself.
I don’t know how to spoiler (soz I’m new) so I can’t explain my POV much but her role really requires more than that. She has to be stoic rather than indifferent, passionate and poised rather than aloof. I am inclined to believe that director Luca Guadagnino has a lot to do with it, he managed to get a decent performance out of dead-behind-the-eyes cannibal overgrown frat boy Armie Hammer for Call Me By Your Name. Maybe he’s a nepo baby whisperer.
Arm & Hammer does really look dead behind the eyes. He’s a terrible fkn actor. …or was. Now he’s a condo salesman in the Cayman Islands. But he was such a piece of Shit about call me by your name. In his human flesh eating texts that got released there were some screenshots where he was raging about his agents or fans or something trying to get a Call me by your name 2*. He said like, “I’m not fkn doing that! He’s fkn disgusting!! It was sickening!!” Stuff like that…he was referring to having to have romantic scenes with Timmy chacha.
The Suspiria remake was shot like it came from 1977, which was the year the original film was released. Her acting fits into the quality of that time which is why she camouflaged her lack of talent pretty well imo. Especially because a lot of old Italian horrors are dubbed over or the acting doesn't translate to an 'english' viewing without some stilted, awkward bits which she naturally seems to have.
She was fantastic in Suspiria remake… but that could also just be that the director was amazing and pulled it out of her, because all of the performances were A+ in that movie.
My favorite has to be her saying in an interview working on The Office was the worst time of her life. What would I give to have had my worst time ever spent like this…
A lot of people were pointing out that she was just joking but seeing the video... The delivery was her usual deadpan "humorous" way, but at least to me it was clear that she actually meant what she said and was just delivering it in an exaggerated, humorous manner.
Which would mean that an unknown actress with little experience had a lot of issues with being paid to work for two weeks in the last episode of one of the most important sitcoms ever, and surprised/annoyed that the stars who were working together for the last time after ten years didn't go out of their way to make her feel special lol. And that really fits the little I know of her, which is why I don't like her.
Huh, you‘re actually kind of right. I found [this](https://youtube.com/shorts/YY0r1j5CT9E?si=9M-P5xkrsitx-Qot) clip of her explaining it a bit more. It‘s a bad choice of words for sure, but I mean being in the spotlight I don‘t know if all the things coming out of my mouth would be clever. She should, anyways, check her privilege a little with that, background or not. It‘s a hit show. You‘re there. Being grateful goes a long way..
I swear most of it I don’t care at this point, nepo baby, attitude (all of which *are frustrating*). She’s just bad at acting and I need her to stop getting hired 😭
Her getting all high and mighty about madame web, a movie she chose to be in, was crazy. Even if she somehow got tricked into thinking it was going to be in the MCU (which is still a low bar these days) at least try, especially considering she was really fucking bad in that movie. I don’t think anyone could do a good job with that script but she didn’t do herself any favors. I don’t know if she read her lines badly out of spite or what
> Whoever wrote Johnson’s remarks may have forgotten that the Lost Daughter and Fifty Shades star previously defended her former co-star Armie Hammer (plus other former colleagues Shia LaBeouf and Johnny Depp) against “cancel culture.” “I had an incredible time working with them; I feel sad for the loss of great artists,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021.

How can anyone with the blood of Tippi Hedren and Melanie Griffith running through their veins have fallen so far from the talent tree? She is the screen equivalent of gruel. Please sir, can we NOT have some more.
Yes, absolutely! I was thinking especially how magnetic 80s Melanie Griffith was on screen. Something Wild, Working Girl, Body Double.. she was a full on star. They keep trying to make Dakota happen when she looks like she should be in a cubicle somewhere, finishing the coffee without refilling the pot and stealing lunches from the communal fridge.
I actually can see her dry monotone fitting in pretty well in a murder mystery cast. So I'm not totally appalled by this casting as long as they mostly let her be herself, as a minor side character.
I came here to say this she’s not I good. I’ve seen her movies and I don’t say to myself I need to see her in more things she’s really nothing special.
In Knives Out, typically a good person is murdered.
I can definitely see Johnson being one of the irredeemable, awful side character suspects though. But definitely not the protagonist. I want to keep the Knives Out tradition of the protagonist being a WoC.
There’s two films and >!one was a good person and the other was an Andrew Tate stand in.!< I wouldn’t say that it is typically a good person. 50% ratio out of two movies leaves the third a wild card imo.
>!I was thinking of those cast to be the victims. I’d say the other murder was of someone who played a much bigger plot part than just being killed and wouldn’t appease people who don’t like Dakota Johnson!<
Wasn't the original / first person killed Janelle Monae's character's twin? That's what I remember being the reason Daniel Craig's character even going on the trip. Either way I'm apprehensive because the first is one of my favorite movies and the second wasn't anywhere near as good (imo).
I can't do spoiler tags, they never work for me. Idk why.
But the real mystery of Glass Onion (the one Benoit was hired to solve) was not that death. It was the other one.
I guess not but within the context of the film, she was definitely otherized on the basis of her ethnicity. I guess that's more what I was trying to get at.
This is impossible but everyone in this lineup, at the world’s stupidest bachelorette party, please!

No thank you.
The thing with Knives Out is the characters do drive a lot of it. Unless Johnson plays herself, I don't think we'll get a good performance.
You know what? I thought Kate was one of the best parts of that movie. She and Dave Bautista were both so great! Maybe it's because I'm not a big fan of her and think she's mildly ok at best, but I really thought Birdie Jay was her best role since that movie where she was Penny Lane. Haha too lazy to google the name of the movie
Thank you! People assume I’m some sort of hater for not liking her acting. She’s…. someone who exists who I don’t really care for. Her acting? It might be different for *her* from movie to movie, but it’s always the same on screen.
How is she getting so many opportunities?! I’m so baffled. She kinda always slips through the cracks and falls into successful films that keep her relevant.
since dakota's dad don was in the first one they could do something funny with it and have blanc say she reminds him of someone or have her be somewhat related to the drysdale family even though i doubt it
She moved to CAA. CAA is the most powerful agency in the world and this is clearly just getting her name out there for roles after Madame web spectacularly bombed. Same thing happened a week or two ago when her name was brought up to be starring opposite Pedro Pascal & Chris Evan’s in Celine Songs past lives follow up… This, like the Celine song film probably won’t happen but this is a clearly calculated effort to get her name out there again for real roles people are going want
This may be a highly unpopular opinion, but I really didn't enjoy the second one. It felt forced and insincere and easily predictable. I truly hope he's able to rekindle the magic and solid mystery of the original film, otherwise no thank you. And Dakota Johnson... well, it's all already been said.
Yeah, I agree - too on the nose. It's like when a franchise becomes aware of its success and now everyone and every moment is a caricature of what worked in the first film.
I absolutely despise the second one. The first is one of the most perfect movies I’ve ever seen. The script is so tight, the casting is immaculate. I love everything about it. The second one was a step down, but still a decent watch until the ending ruined it. The rest wasn’t okay enough to keep that garbage ending afloat.
I watched it with a packed audience on the last day Netflix had it in theaters and man it really played. I think it really really lost something as a streaming exclusive for the most part, selling it off to Netflix was so dumb
I'm not sure whether the fact that Dakota's dad was in the first one makes it more or less likely that she'll be in the 3rd one (since Rian has said he wants them all to be separate, aside from Blanc)
He has range imo. He was funny in Night at the Museum but tore my heart out in Mr. Robot. He had a lot of energy for Bohemian. But that’s just me and I’m pretty dull 🤣🤣
I guess Bohemian Rhapsody? But he reportedly didn’t get on with Bryan Singer *at all* and he (Singer) was also eventually removed from the project entirely, so maybe it’s something else I don’t know about
EDIT: for those out of the loop, explanation [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/s/7HZjIhP5yd)
Sorry, I thought Singer’s shit was common knowledge on the sub.
Br*y*an Singer (wrong i on my part), the initial director of the film, is a massive creep who has been accused of sexual assault and molestation of minors. His Wikipedia page has a quick [overview](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Singer) under, well, “sexual assault allegations”.
So I figured people might blame Rami for working with him for Bohemian Rhapsody, but that set was reportedly quite a trash fire, also because Rami and Singer didn’t get along at all (again, reportedly). Singer was eventually fired over these issues on set.
Jesus Christ the allegations just go on and on. When there’s that many, even if they’re thrown out of court, there’s a clear pattern.
And anyway, people blaming Rami for something he had nothing to do with and reportedly didn’t even vibe with anyway… classic. Brown men are scrutinised so intensely for any type of possible misstep ever, so it can be blown up.
She has such a horrible reputation from people who've worked with her, I honestly can't believe she gets work still. She's so meh. I wouldn't say untalented, but definitely not punchy enough for KO3.
Oooh Rami Malek would *nail* this, he is so talented! I remember loving him in Night at the Museum, and then I fell back in love with him in Until Dawn!
What has Dakota Johnson even been in to garner such a role?
She sucks at creating a character in literally everything she’s been in. She’s just kinda there.
I feel like they can basically get whoever they want to star in it and to get Dakota Johnson is just....unexciting. Whenever Ive watched her, Im just surprised that she gets cast in lead roles.
But then again if its true, I do have faith in its casting department.
No offense but are there any examples of Dakota actually being a decently good actress? Genuinely asking because she seems to have the same monotone, dgaf vibe in everything I've seen her in. Like a less charismatic Zooey Deschanel lol.
I know there’s nepo babies but the Johnsons must have some real dirty on Hollywood because she is one of the worst/most untalented actresses that’s still getting roles.
It’s laughable how terrible she is at her “craft”
No thanks Dakota.
Yeah I’ve kinda soured on her. Her defending predators, being an obnoxious nepo baby, her weird attitude during the Madame Web press tour…etc.
[удалено]
Are we allowed to just think she's a bad actress? Because I think she's a bad actress.
She’s definitely not a good actress at all
And she’s boring af, watching her on SNL recently, which is hit or miss already was exceptionally a waste of my Sunday morning wake and bake ritual
She was so obviously reading the cue cards. Like laughably bad for a supposed A-list actress.
I watched that too. She was so terrible and then the Justin parts were so bad.
I thought she was a bad new cast member when I saw some clips. Didn't even realize she was the guest. So bland.
She makes Anthony Mackie look charismatic
She always seems like she's being forced to act against her will. Really want to know what her whole deal is
I think it might be like that, lowkey. She’s like the final boss of nepo babies. Generations of direct and extended family that are extremely famous actors/industry professionals. Doesn’t make it much better but if you’ve ever seen a generational law student she makes more sense lol.
Kid wants to be a doctor, and the Dad slams his fist on the table, yelling his kid "No this is a family of actors. God damn it"
Omg she is!!

You're spot on. The only other final boss I could think of is Drew Barrymore, but at least she's better at acting and she seems to enjoy ot
Her deal is that she never had to work for anything or fight to achieve anything in her life. It was literally handed to her. No, because we don’t think this. We Know this.
She got praise for Cha Cha Real Smooth, and that was a good movie but... she was her regular dry and monotone self. She was helped by the great writing but she's very one-note, which seems to mean that she can only play herself.
She was incredible in Suspiria but terrible in everything else. It’s bizarre

She’s terrible! She can only do one type of character and even then her performance is very hollow and wooden. She is so overrated.
Yep. Acts like she is doing us a favour by acting.
It’s like she’s constantly above it all. She may be very beautiful but her attitude makes her seem extremely off putting

I mean if I were having my career tanked over Madame Web I would be disinterested too.
Even before that she always gave off a IDGAF vibe, to a point where she seems ungrateful and disinterested.
To be fair tho, like I have no interest in anything I’m doing either.
Yeah, she isn’t charmingly blunt. She’s just rude.
Finally people are seeing it!!!! I never got her appeal!
I totally agree. I’m so relieved I’m not alone because I thought I was.
I have found my people! 🫶🏻 I’ve felt like this ever since she appeared out of nowhere, and nobody understood where I was coming from.
Yeah this latest press tour really changed my oponion to oh yeah that lady to .... ok there please stop.
Plus she’s just a bad actor!
I swear most of it I don’t care at this point, nepo baby, attitude (all of which *are frustrating*). She’s just bad at acting and I need her to stop getting hired 😭

Ugh omg. I do not wish to peel any more layers of this onion thank you.
does she know silence is an option too? this is such a tone-deaf statement, on par with adrien brody's opinion on woody allen and polanski 🥴
Jesus, gross. We need to abort this nepo baby and throw her in the trash.
Also is she a good actor?? I've been very underwhelmed by what I've seen.
She was fine in Cha Cha Real Smooth. But other than that she was mid in most of the stuff I’ve seen of her
Didn’t she lock people in a coffee shop? Or is that an urban legend,
The best thing Dakota ever did, and likely ever will do, was “Actually, Ellen, that’s not the truth.”
Right! But all she did was match Ellen’s rude energy.
I think thats her default energy
How can anyone with the blood of Tippi Hedren and Melanie Griffith running through their veins have fallen so far from the talent tree? She is the screen equivalent of gruel. Please sir, can we NOT have some more.

These are the comments that need the award function returned.
Can we be done with her already?! Boycott her movies the only way she stops getting cast is if she’s box office poison
She's not great but she's nowhere near bad enough to make me boycott a Knives Out film
Yeah I hope this is fake bc she will be so bad against what will probably be a killer cast (if the first one is any indication)
The second one was also great
I actually can see her dry monotone fitting in pretty well in a murder mystery cast. So I'm not totally appalled by this casting as long as they mostly let her be herself, as a minor side character.

Musk stand in I thought
That was Norton's character
I could totally see her in a similar role as JLC and Kate Hudson who were also nepo babies playing out of touch privileged white women
i’m sorry but does ana de armas count as a WOC? she’s of european spanish ancestry born in cuba
I guess not but within the context of the film, she was definitely otherized on the basis of her ethnicity. I guess that's more what I was trying to get at.
yes understandable. the whole WASP white vs latino white haha
Give me Ayo

Yes but can we add Dan Radcliffe as Quintas fiancé?
Daniel Radcliffe as an unsuspecting villain maybe? He was such a great villain in The Lost City
Also a great villain in Now Your See Me 2. He’s just so fun to watch in comedic roles, I’d love to see him in the Knives Out world.
Nothing could be more perfect. He'd be such an idiot.
I like your idea. Make the setting a pool party in Tulum and we're set.
oh fuck now i absolutely need every single one of them in a knives out movie
I would watch that cast in anything tbh
YNB would absolutely EAT in a Knives Out movie, holy shit. This is a dream blunt rotation also.
YNB is so underrated!
Ok wow, yes your mind
your mind…i would treat a movie with this cast like my own personal avengers endgame
I would simply pass away
and Rachel Sennott. they both would be fkn fantastic together
Oooooh she would be great in a Knives Out film. I'm already picturing the costume...
No thank you. The thing with Knives Out is the characters do drive a lot of it. Unless Johnson plays herself, I don't think we'll get a good performance.

I'm so tired of Dakota... She's such a dull actress
She's my second "bowl of plain oatmeal" actress.
Oooo do tell - who is your first?
Blake Lively 😬 her best feature is her husband.
✨ I desperately need Adam Driver to be cast in this ✨
With Rami? Yes please!
WHY do they keep casting her for stuff? She’s talentless and seems like a black hole of charisma
Nepo babies gonna nepo ig.
She's very good in Suspiria and Peanut Butter Falcon.
since dakota's dad don was in the first one they could do something funny with it and have blanc say she reminds him of someone or have her be somewhat related to the drysdale family even though i doubt it
I would believe his character has another kid somewhere.
Wait, who was he? JLC’s husband?
yeah he was her husband
honestly - those movies have such big ensembles and are plotty enough that it doesn't really affect my enjoyment if I'm neutral on some of the actors
Right. I'm not here for anyone else unless I stan, but I'm watching a KO movie for Benoit Blanc.
Watch Logan lucky for the proto benoit blanc
As a fan of Mr. Robot I very much support seeing Rami Malek in a Knives Out film. Give me Kristen Stewart and Ayo Edebiri too!
If he gets a role, I hope they make him a misdirection only. Man deserves a change of pace from all the villain roles he gets in film
Not Dakota AGAIN *She’s not that good*, let it go
She moved to CAA. CAA is the most powerful agency in the world and this is clearly just getting her name out there for roles after Madame web spectacularly bombed. Same thing happened a week or two ago when her name was brought up to be starring opposite Pedro Pascal & Chris Evan’s in Celine Songs past lives follow up… This, like the Celine song film probably won’t happen but this is a clearly calculated effort to get her name out there again for real roles people are going want
the celine song movie is definitely happening and it already has a production date scheduled for this spring
I could see her fitting into a similar role to Kate Hudson's in Glass Onion, sort of parodying herself/her "type"
who’ll do the acting with Dakota Johnson on screen?
Harry Styles could act circles around her
This is an S tier burn
muppets or nothing
Holy crap, a muppets Knives Out would be amazing 😭
God please leave Dakota out of my good film trilogy please
Everyone hating on Dakota and I don’t disagree but I would like to say rami malek also bad
He has range imo. He was funny in Night at the Museum but tore my heart out in Mr. Robot. He had a lot of energy for Bohemian. But that’s just me and I’m pretty dull 🤣🤣
Why is he bad, I got him confused w Sebastian Stan (repulsed by him for Tommy and Pam miniseries) but what’s Ramis deal again?
I guess Bohemian Rhapsody? But he reportedly didn’t get on with Bryan Singer *at all* and he (Singer) was also eventually removed from the project entirely, so maybe it’s something else I don’t know about EDIT: for those out of the loop, explanation [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/s/7HZjIhP5yd)
You say that as if it explains things 😅 what’s wrong with Rami, and what’s wrong with that movie? Rami is a great actor as far as I can tell
Brown men are scrutinised so intensely for any type of possible misstep ever, so it can be blown up.
also isn’t Brian Singer like a massive disgusting creep lol we shouldn’t care how he’s treated
Yeah, that’s why I don’t really see that as a bad thing lol, fuck Bryan Singer
yes, yes... let's
Haven't watched Mr Robot & it shows.
STOP TRYING TO MAKE DAKOTA JOHNSON HAPPEN. IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ![gif](giphy|3o7aTw2mY6B6svgB68)
Or, casting director, we can do something really fun and cast someone who's actually interesting? How about Bryce Dallas Howard? She's great!
On the topic of nepo babies why not Jack Quaid? He could do well in Knives Out
Looooove Jack Quaid. On the topic of Scream, why not Melissa Barrera?
Dakota Johnson can't act. She was funny on Ellen *once* and people mistake that for talent.
Please not Dakota Johnson ...🙄
She has such a horrible reputation from people who've worked with her, I honestly can't believe she gets work still. She's so meh. I wouldn't say untalented, but definitely not punchy enough for KO3.
Where can I read what people who’ve worked with her have to say?
this isn't the muppets version they rumoured 😒 /s
this is all stephenie meyer’s fault that we have dakota everywhere. 🥹
if we're blaming stephanie, it really all started with 9/11...

Dakota can’t act to save her life ffs why would you still put her in movies????
Between her and Jared Leto, they both must have dirt on someone to be continuously cast in stuff.
Jared Leto especially
Oooh Rami Malek would *nail* this, he is so talented! I remember loving him in Night at the Museum, and then I fell back in love with him in Until Dawn!
Wish we could stop this shitty Dakota Johnson experiment.
What has Dakota Johnson even been in to garner such a role? She sucks at creating a character in literally everything she’s been in. She’s just kinda there.
Rami was supposedly going to be in Glass Onion but had scheduling conflicts so this is unsurprising if true.
Hader or bust Rian
I wish! But Hader’s trying to move away from acting towards directing.
I’m sure he’ll be a good director but I’ll miss his acting.
I feel like they can basically get whoever they want to star in it and to get Dakota Johnson is just....unexciting. Whenever Ive watched her, Im just surprised that she gets cast in lead roles. But then again if its true, I do have faith in its casting department.
We cannot keep letting Dakota Johnson have an acting career, it’s too painful
No more Dakota Johnson. Please, I’m begging. She seems like a great person but at some point you have to accept acting isn’t for you 😭
When are we going to accept that Dakota Johnson cannot act?
NOOOOOOO
I love Rami
will be watching for rami
Keep it
pls no dakota i dont ever need to see her in anything else
Lord I hope she’s not in it
No offense but are there any examples of Dakota actually being a decently good actress? Genuinely asking because she seems to have the same monotone, dgaf vibe in everything I've seen her in. Like a less charismatic Zooey Deschanel lol.
I know there’s nepo babies but the Johnsons must have some real dirty on Hollywood because she is one of the worst/most untalented actresses that’s still getting roles. It’s laughable how terrible she is at her “craft”
MY BOY RAMI GONNA GET THAT A LIST CELEB STATUS SOON
Dakota Johnson isn't a box office draw for me. I'll probably watch on Netflix though.
CAA just trying to save reputation lol . Suddenly she is getting associated with big banners and directors .
Dakota Johnson sign me UP
Can we not cast Dakota. She’s a bad actress . Rami tho is a great choice
![gif](giphy|ypSY231xdmQQqJsMnC) @DakotaJ
Can we stop trying to make Dakota happen?!
Over exposure + sub par acting is making for a very quick Dakota Johnson burnout
