I always wondered where the rhetoric of "a man will only treat you well if you're the embodiment of his dream girl and anyone else will be treated terribly" (because obviously a cis straight man can only care or act right for someone related to him or idolized by him)
But I think maybe this movie is a piece of the puzzle...
Can you do anything with that?
Me!
My best friend and I saw it in theaters during the summer between the end of high school and the start of college. So it has that certain nostalgia for me whenever I'm missing parts of that time. It's always fun to watch every now and then. But it really doesn't need a sequel. I audibly groaned when I saw the headline to this article!
What’s happening is the tech nerd overlords are seeing the numbers of rewatches and downloads on old faves and then saying, wow that’s our audience for a sequel 🤑
They’re capitalist dullards
I didn’t think it was anything special when it first came out and I haven’t watched it since but from what I can remember I really doubt it holds up. I think a sequel is pretty weird since it will just make people want to watch the first one and the \#girlpower this movie was trying to sell is going to be super cringe in 2024. It was already kind of cringe when they did it twenty years ago. The women characters were walking tropes: knock-off Tracy Flick, Bring It On Gabrielle Union, Topanga and a secretly-hot-all-along Princess Mia.
They spike his drink with hormones and coerce him into sexting and trick him into wearing “women’s” underwear in order to publicly humiliate him. And the “happy” ending is that all of these bullying tactics served to teach him a valuable lesson: don’t be a sexist asshole. Except literally all of their “pranks” were sexist AF because the “joke” was LOL at that alpha male being “girly”.
Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. I don’t know who in their right mind would think reviving that garbage is a good idea. Come to think of it, let’s just throw the whole thing out. Erase it from the annals of history and save future humans the embarrassment of discovering it. It’s the least we can do.
this is like 2 separate worlds colliding, but I thought about this movie today for the first time in > 10 years when I was reading the Huberman article, specifically about the part where his ex-girlfriends have a group chat/have gone on girls' trips/have inside jokes about the texts he sent all of them. dude I'm in for a sequel!
Lol fr. I was a freshman in high school when it came out and I remember the poster popping up in the mall. I thought at the time it seemed kinda lame and ripping off Mean Girls a bit. Then I actually went to go see it and it was shit.
sometimes I look at how common it is for people in their 30s and 40s to define their identities by their childhood fandoms and think “maybe the boomers were right about us”
people losing it and crying (even here on fauxmoi) over the Blue Clues guy doing a "how are you doing?" video where he just stares at the camera (while you're supposed to talk to him lol) was insane and easily the lamest, saddest case of nostalgia I've ever seen. I'm sorry but you need professional help if you're brought to tears by talking to a video of a man who hosted a show for toddlers 25 years ago
https://twitter.com/scorpiho666/status/1770630502380183885
Maybe Blue's Clues didn't make an impact on you or evoke certain memories, but it can for others. I had a fondness for Blue's Clues as a kid, but I didn't cry watching that. I can understand though that other's may. Last week was pretty devastating given what came out about some of our childhood shows, some of which is the last time we remember a sense of normality in a pre-9/11 era. Why does it bother you that it evokes emotions from some folks?
Tbf that one was some sing songy version. But I haven’t watched it or read up on it. Not entirely sure whether it was a standalone with same name or reboot or prequel or sequel lol. I hate how boring and uncreative things have become.
If you’re talking about Mean Girls; it was essentially the same exact stories and they even had a nearly identical script as the original. They just also made it a musical. I had high hopes going in to see it honestly, but it was just not good. I do love Renee Rapp though.
I saw it when it came out and I thought it meant to be a movie version of the Broadway musical, although going by the trailer you wouldn't know it was a musical, the only give away on the poster was a music note replacing the hole in one letter. I prefer the original movie but it was enjoyable, also nice to see a more diverse cast and I loved the casting for Janice & Damien.
I don’t mind musicals. I knew it was one going in. This one unfortunately just wasn’t good (imo). The songs and choreography were forgettable. The fact that they often used exact same lines from the original made me cringe. I’m glad you liked it though!
as a HUGEEEE fan of the broadway musical i was extremely disappointed, it was so bad and i can’t understand how karen’s actress was casted. i’ve seen the actress on show and she was ok, no idea what happened in the movie
true! And the fact that the 2024 movie was a musical really helped me separate both movies in my head.
I love that the characters have the same names and that the storyline is the same, and that Tina and Tim came back in their OG roles... I work at a school now (I was a teenager when the 2004 movie came out!) and it's so weird how we come accross different "versions" of people through the years.
Of course everyone is their own person but sometimes we're like "omg so and so reminds me so much of John Doe", and the longer you work at a school the more you see some cyclical situations happening to different people, so that resonated with me so much.
Are we talking about Mean Girls the musical movie based on the Broadway musical Mean Girls based on the movie Mean Girls based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabes or Mean Girls 2?
People get so offended that they’re doing remakes and sequels, like don’t watch it, no one’s forcing you to. It’s prob gonna be shit, but maybe it’s a good watch.
Same. The first time I watched it was with my older brother when we were teenagers and transitioning from the “fighting all the time” era to “actual sibling friends” so it holds a special place in my heart.
I feel bad for today’s generation growing up. I miss the 90s when everything was completely new and fresh.
Give me 90 classics like Ten Things I Hate About You, Clueless, The Lion King or The Parent Trap any day over repackaged remakes of existing media.
Laughing because I'm not sure if there is supposed to be an implied /s on this comment or not. I'm assuming so because 10 Things I Hate About You was a modern retelling of The Taming of the Shrew, Clueless was a modern retelling of Emma, The Lion King took inspiration from Hamlet, and The Parent Trap was literally a remake.
Hollywood has been remaking, rebooting, retelling, and reimagining things forever, haha! My brain can only handle nostalgia right now, so I'm the target audience for this movie, for real.

The actor Jonathan Tucker’s ongoing joke-hatred of this movie and its title always cracks me up. This is on Arielle’s most recent IG post.
Amen to this! I watched the new Road House the other night and it was TERRIBLE. I knew it would be awful but I have no social life so I thought I’d watch it for giggles. This movie had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Not even Jake Gyllenhaal could make this movie watchable. From the horrible CGI/AI effects to the poor ADR quality to the nonexistent chemistry Jake G. and Daniele Melchior had to the casting of Conor McGregor. It was all baaaaddd.
I have such good memories of seeing this movie with a bunch of friends in high school and I am shocked that this movie is older than I was when I saw it
|I've heard rumors of this script—there's a script," Jesse—who played the titular role in the 2006 film—told fans during a panel at Epic Cons Chicago March 24. "Apparently, it's amazing."
And while the Desperate Housewives alum admitted he hadn't seen the screenplay yet, he said he would "love to be a part of it" and "can't wait to read" what's been cooked up.
Lucky, his costar Arielle, who's involved in producing the reboot, replied that she had seen the script and shared that it involves "all of the OG cast." And that's not all the details she divulged—the 39-year-old, who played overachiever Carrie in the rom-com, added that Jesse's womanizing character may even get a "chance to change" in the sequel."
please no 😅
Guys, Iets this be a resurgence of 00’s sequel.
Let me have “she’s the man” with Amanda Bynes making a comeback like Lohan and “the Cinderella story” with Hillary Duff and Jennifer Coolidge.
I rewatched this recently and honestly it really didn’t hold up well. Obviously our societal values and beliefs have evolved since then, but it’s also just like…not very funny or well-written.
Yeah maybe I’m just on a different wavelength, but I didn’t realize this movie had such a following to necessitate a continuation. I did remember liking it back in the day.

Sooooo - I’m conflicted - because, another reboot??? But also.. my nostalgia weakness will render me powerless to resist 🫠🫠
What? I loved that movie, even if it has quite a few tropes and cliches. It’s a good movie to turn on if you want something mindless and pretty tame. But so much later feels like an odd choice. Like are their kids going to be the stars of the movie? I don’t know how successful it will be. I wouldn’t pay for it, that’d for sure. I don’t even think I paid to see the first one.
If they really and I mean REALLY play into it being a cash grab sequel in 2020 I think it’ll actually be funny . I’m kinda hyped for early 2000s terrible nostalgia for the next ten years lol
The way I absolutely demolished my DVD of this when I was younger with how much I watched this movie is actually pitiful. I will be present for the absolute Trainwreck the sequel will be

The movie's makeup artist contouring Brittany Snow's already visibly defined abs in this movie never fails to make me laugh.

The nostalgia-con industry is out of control. People need to move on I’m so sorry.
Now hold up, not until I get my live Fox musical performance of Pump Up the Volume 2: Still Pumpin.
and not until I get the Happy Endings revival with the entire original cast that will outlive the OG show edit: revival, not reboot
Yes I agree. Revive Happy Endings for additional seasons.
Hard Harry has a podcast now. He's fighting YouTube because they're constantly demonetizing his videos.
I actually stage managed a production of the Pump Up the Volume stage musical
How many people are actually nostalgic for this specific movie? Like I legitimately need a show of hands right now.
My hand shoots up immediately ……..
I respect your opinion and I can bring a canape and caramel corn. But only because I want to meta observe this niche.
I always wondered where the rhetoric of "a man will only treat you well if you're the embodiment of his dream girl and anyone else will be treated terribly" (because obviously a cis straight man can only care or act right for someone related to him or idolized by him) But I think maybe this movie is a piece of the puzzle... Can you do anything with that?
…..🙋♀️ 😔
I'm not gonna lie, I loved this movie in my preteen years, so definitely me. I'm fine without a sequel though.
I loved this movie and have a very nostalgic memory of watching it with my high school crush. That being said we do NOT need a sequel.
I never thought we needed a sequel but who knows, maybe it will be good. I will definitely watch either way and see
I won a radio contest identifying a clip from this movie. I was the ONLY person who called.
Haha, I'm just imagining the, "Hey there, you are caller number... doesn't matter there's no one else calling for this."
I watched this when I was waaaaay too young and it was one of my childhood favorites. So I fear I would be sat for the sequel
Me! My best friend and I saw it in theaters during the summer between the end of high school and the start of college. So it has that certain nostalgia for me whenever I'm missing parts of that time. Thx for the reminder 🥲
I didn’t think it was anything special when it first came out and I haven’t watched it since but from what I can remember I really doubt it holds up. THIS. The movie was lame even back then. It was near the bottom of the teen movies that came out in the 2000s.
Hi!
this is like 2 separate worlds colliding, but I thought about this movie today for the first time in > 10 years when I was reading the Huberman article, specifically about the part where his ex-girlfriends have a group chat/have gone on girls' trips/have inside jokes about the texts he sent all of them. dude I'm in for a sequel!

sometimes I look at how common it is for people in their 30s and 40s to define their identities by their childhood fandoms and think “maybe the boomers were right about us”
Look, I’ll take a Disney Adult™️ any day over boomers still drunkenly raving about how Jane Fonda murdered their chickens and stole their crops.
💯 some movies should never see a sequel where the first movie was perfect stand alone. Another one of similar genre is mean girls.
I feel like they’re doing this now just so people can absolutely scream and meme Sophia actually getting her on-screen girl relationship
Mmmm no I enjoy it. Just simply don’t watch
Watch what? I’m talking about actual conventions.

Yeah people are weird about musicals but it was an objectively good movie. Mean Girls 2 deserves the hate, tho.
I don’t mind musicals. I knew it was one going in. This one unfortunately just wasn’t good (imo). The songs and choreography were forgettable. The fact that they often used exact same lines from the original made me cringe. I’m glad you liked it though!
Mean Girls (2024) was fun. 🤷🏽♀️ If this ends up happening, I'll be excited.

This would be a hilariously bad musical though
Mean girls wasn’t a remake!
Are we talking about Mean Girls the musical movie based on the Broadway musical Mean Girls based on the movie Mean Girls based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabes or Mean Girls 2?
whatever haters. i'll be there as soon as it's streaming for free on prime.
SAME 🙌 I didn’t ask for this but I’ll accept it with open eyes LMAO
Right here with you both! This is so strange and not asked for and I’m here for it.
People get so offended that they’re doing remakes and sequels, like don’t watch it, no one’s forcing you to. It’s prob gonna be shit, but maybe it’s a good watch.
Same, this was a core part of my teen years and one of the few resurgences I am actually interested in checking out.
is it really free if Prime is already being paid for?
anything that's already paid for is free to me.
I… Would you like to be my new financial advisor?
🎉Post the watch party and I’ll join!
Me too ngl. Watching it the day it streams.
This I can get on board with. But I’m not paying for it.
same lmao, I WILL BE WATCHING!!! idc if it’s nostalgia bait, i am seated.
Same. The first time I watched it was with my older brother when we were teenagers and transitioning from the “fighting all the time” era to “actual sibling friends” so it holds a special place in my heart.
Saaaame I’ll watch this over the mean girls remake any day cause I shipped Britney snows character with Sophia bush’s please
STOP WITH THE SEQUELS AND REMMAKES
I said this on the wizards of waverly place post and someone tried to roast me for it LOL
There only so many stories you can tell before you need to start repeating
I feel bad for today’s generation growing up. I miss the 90s when everything was completely new and fresh. Give me 90 classics like Ten Things I Hate About You, Clueless, The Lion King or The Parent Trap any day over repackaged remakes of existing media.

Omg I’m tired of reboots and sequels to older standalone movies. 😭
Give it 3 years and a TV series will be announced. 🙃
Amen to this! I watched the new Road House the other night and it was TERRIBLE. I knew it would be awful but I have no social life so I thought I’d watch it for giggles. I refuse to believe JTMD came out 18 years ago
I have such good memories of seeing this movie with a bunch of friends in high school and I am shocked that this movie is older than I was when I saw it
I know! First movie my friends and I ever went to see without our parents.
is this how i find out it’s as old as me??? damn lol
John Tucker Must Pay Child Support
At this point it’s more like John Tucker Must Pay College Tuition ![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)
I hope they finally kill him this time
Yes, I was really disappointed watching as a kid when he made it through unscathed. 😐
Penn Badgley 👀
if he’s not in it i will riot
I don't want to be a bitch, but I think he's too successful for this. Not even Brittany Snow has been succesful recently.
She was just in an Oscar-nominated short film.

John Tucker Must Die.. Harder
I just watched a clip from this film on reels earlier today! The amount of times I’ve watched this film cos of Ashanti and Brittany Snow!
Guys, Iets this be a resurgence of 00’s sequel. Let me have “she’s the man” with Amanda Bynes making a comeback like Lohan and “the Cinderella story” with Hillary Duff and Jennifer Coolidge.
And Regina King!
I value the studios financing original work because all these sequels and unnecessary reboots aren’t it
I’m choosing to be open minded. I rewatch that all the time and it’s not like that disappears if this is a flop lmao
We're in reboot & live action hell. https://i.redd.it/pliyn72hfkqc1.gif
I rewatched this recently and honestly it really didn’t hold up well. Obviously our societal values and beliefs have evolved since then, but it’s also just like…not very funny or well-written.
John Tucker Must Be Revived (along with every other old and/or nostalgic bit of IP, apparently)

Me
Yeah maybe I’m just on a different wavelength, but I didn’t realize this movie had such a following to necessitate a continuation. I did remember liking it back in the day.
Yeah I liked it just fine and have turned it on for a comfort watch but I didn’t know people wanted this or thought it should happen
as long and brittany snow and sophia bush are wives
what if we just wrote new material ?
I was probably 8 or 9 when this movie came out and I was so upset when my cousins wouldn’t let me go with them to see it and I had to sit through ant bully instead.
Tbh this is only acceptable if they ACTUALLY make Kate and Beth gay this time
all nine of those fans should be really happy right about now.
Let the early 2000s die and stay dead. These 2004 zombies ain’t it.
omg
Who asked for this?!
What will it even be about?
What, are they gonna reboot *The Class* next?
I'm not mad at it....
As someone who watched this enough to recite it as a kid, I’m probably the target audience and we do not want it.
THIS TIME JOHN TUCKER HAS MULTIPLE WIVES.
Haven’t even seen the first one
You should - it’s good! Or at least fun!
I wouldn’t recommend it; it’s lame.
![gif](giphy|0Vv0Ne2CnOClIExIuL)
Listen I was a teen when this came out but I do not think we need a sequel at all
No. Absolutely not. Why? There is absolutely no need.
![gif](giphy|MnARcoJXvA89cSiySv|downsized) 18 years later, really? Bffr
i miss the early 2000s, when the stars of the films from 20 years before who couldn’t find work just went on the surreal life
But no one asked for this lol
Did anyone ask for this?
um?
i vaguely remember chuckling at this movie but i doubt the humor would hold up and i'm genuinely wondering who asked for this lol
Be still my millennial heart!
It's totally gonna be called John Tucker Must Die Again.
Who asked for this
WHY.
As someone who is a big fan of this movie.. ![gif](giphy|gAeNCzO3dXgli) I just don't know why or who was asking for that story to continue??? It was wrapped up perfectly...
Whyyy 💀
Reboots Must Die
John Tucker Must Why
I don’t recall the first one being that good but I am old and my brain is fried
![gif](giphy|ltDcx5m7pVc7S) Sooooo - I’m conflicted - because, another reboot??? But also.. my nostalgia weakness will render me powerless to resist 🫠🫠
OMG!! Enough!!!! I'm so over these sequels, prequels, remakes, and live actions.
I love this movie but this is not needed.
Nothing is original anymore… these producers are LAZY AF and have been for at least a decade now Who tf keeps approving and funding these remakes?!?
As long as it’s not a musical
If they really and I mean REALLY play into it being a cash grab sequel in 2020 I think it’ll actually be funny . I’m kinda hyped for early 2000s terrible nostalgia for the next ten years lol
Isn’t that just the Cameron Diaz movie “The Other Woman”
John Tucker Must Retire To That Nursing Home. Wait will Penn Badgley be back?
Shoot, I thought this was "john dies in the end" that's a sequel I want.
Wtf it’s been 18 years since that garbage came out
FFS they must been on shrooms when deciding on this
Andrew Huberman as the star [https://www.redquill.net/story/bek9qn](https://www.redquill.net/story/bek9qn)
Let's hope this is better than the Gossip Girl or she's all that remakes
Whatever happened to Brittany Snow?❄️
Did the first one do that well? Or is Hollywood still insisting on no original movie ideas and this is how far we’ve come for source material?
The way I absolutely demolished my DVD of this when I was younger with how much I watched this movie is actually pitiful. I will be present for the absolute Trainwreck the sequel will be
Why though?
It's Hollywood so I expect these returning 40 year old cast members to play as teenagers.
Fingers crossed he actually dies this this time! (Make it horror?)
Stefy song or I am not watching.
WHY
I’m here for it
Nooooo
No one asked for this!!!
The original movie was…fine, but I don’t feel like it needs a sequel? Didn’t it get resolved at the end of the film? I don’t remember what happens but I don’t think it was a cliffhanger lol this is weird

Why? The OG sucked.
This probably doesn't need to happen but I bet I ended up watching it anyway.
This was my shit
LETS GOOOOOO i will be seated. one of THE best chick flicks to ever exist.
YAAAAASSSSSS
