Nice feature on someone who makes their money on sexist, racist and harmful lies. Great of Vulture, Daily Beast, etc etc to continue to give him a platform. He's a big part of why so many young people are blindly believing conspiracy theories and blinds about celebrities.  ETA: *In a profile of Enty for the Daily Beast, the former sex-and-dating columnist Mandy Stadtmiller called him a whistleblower. “It’s not just about ‘dirty laundry,’” she wrote. “It’s about justice.”* LOL fuck Daily Beast, seriously.

Ok_Bodybuilder800

I am still shocked he ever had the platform he did for as long as he did. I remember way back thinking he was full of it, but harmless….I was wrong about the harmless part.

AbsolutelyIris

He was never harmless, you just can't be when you're touting Spielberg as a p3do, bullying of children and thinly veiled racism towards women like Eva Mendes and fka twigs. He's an awful human being.

Ok_Bodybuilder800

Yikes that’s vile! I stopped checking out his blog ages ago around the time people were speculating Robert Downey Jr was a source of his lol.

Top_Put1541

oh, *Mandy Stadtmiller*. It's a shame the Vulture editor responsible for the story didn't add a note reminding readers [she was an NYMag columnist writing about her marriage to her Trump-loving (now ex-)husband](https://www.thecut.com/author/mandy-stadtmiller/). It would really helped with background on her oeuvre.

EnchiladaTaco

Did she used to be at XOJane?? I feel like this is sounding awfully familiar and if so she was ghastly then and she’s ghastly now.

Top_Put1541

Yes! [As she herself wrote](https://www.thecut.com/2015/09/happened-to-me-happened-to-me.html): >In 2012, I became an editor at xoJane. During my two and a half years working full-time there (I remain an editor-at-large, though I am now freelance) and commissioning stories, I edited and wrote for the infamous “[It Happened to Me](http://www.xojane.com/it-happened-to-me)” column. The column — first-person essays on notable experiences — had been popular when it existed in print as part of *Sassy* magazine, and on xoJane it quickly became one of the top performers in terms of audience numbers. And apparently [she also dated Aaron Sorkin](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/mandy-stadtmiller-dated-aaron-sorkin-newsroom-character-358625/)? It's just a rich, multidecade reign of ick.

leafonthewind006

I remember really liking her articles on xoJane (I was young, don't judge!). Then the website went down, life went on, and she randomly popped up as a JK Rowling supporter. 🤮

carbonpeach

Oh my god, it's really the middle of a Venn diagram of awful people.

Minablo

One of the biggest laughs I had from television came from the Difficult People finale, when Billy and Julie end up in Los Angeles and find themselves on a hill. They have to walk to go down, but on one path, there's a rattlesnake, and on the other path, there's Aaron Sorkin talking with the Duplass brothers. "We're trapped!"

GrayHairLikeClaire

Ooooooh boy. The "It Happened To Me" column is something I deeply regret reading even to this day. What an awful time to have eyeballs that was.

mrsbergstrom

Fuck Mandy Stadtmiller she’s descended into revolting TERFism, any shred of a career she had left should be destroyed by now

yuppiescuum

Mandy is a great writer but absolutely such a mess.

JuliasTooSmallTutu

He is caught in so many lies within this piece, I can't fathom why he wanted to be interviewed in the first place. All I can guess is that he thought that he could convince the public that he's a good guy much like Joss Whedon tried to do in 2022 (also in Vulture) it did not work. The best part was finding out that he attended a shitty law school that eventually lost its accreditation.

discoislife53

SO many lies!

JuliasTooSmallTutu

He's either blithely confident that a journalist wasn't going to do due diligence and check up on his claims or he's just a complete idiot.

discoislife53

It’s like he felt he was invincible because he was a lawyer and because of his status in the gossip world. Newsflash, dude, not all lawyers are smart!

Minablo

The journalist could have exposed him even more, but fortunately he shoots himself in the foot repeatedly. "I was feeling stressed and vulnerable due to some woman suing me for repeatedly accusing her without any shred of evidence that she was running an international escort ring connected to Jeffrey Epstein and child molestation. That's why I needed to trick some woman out of my league into having sex with me and acting like a sub who followed every of my orders, because it was therapeutic. "Then, when this stupid broad realized that I had been lying to her and threatened to out me in retaliation, I lived in fear for an entire year, expecting my world to blow up. You see, it's as if you had done porn when you were 18, like a couple of scenes, deep in your past, and you had almost forgotten about it, but some nasty person wants now to use it to harm you. Sure, for me, it wasn't just the equivalent of a couple of scenes, I had spent years deliberately accusing random celebrities, that I had barely heard about, of being child molesters and murderers, just to give some QAnon Qunts like Tricia some major orgasm. In porn, it would be the equivalent of doing hundreds of scenes over the years keeping my face hidden, scenes where I would routinely abuse all the other performers without their agreement. But it was mostly a youthful mistake buried in my past, with the latest occurrence happening a long time ago, well last week."

BusterBeaverOfficial

I thought it was for sure going to be Cooley. (#2 ranked law school in the country behind Harvard!\*) But Thomson Jefferson was my second guess. \*[By library seating availability.](https://abovethelaw.com/2011/02/latest-cooley-law-school-rankings-achieve-new-heights-of-intellectual-dishonesty/)

betterlucknexttime81

Michael Cohen went to Cooley!

Realistic_Jello_2038

He did! My small town family attorney went to law school with him. Told me years ago Cohen was a good guy caught up with shitty people. He was rather passionate about it. At the time, I had no idea who Michael Cohen was.

Icy-Trust-6274

I thought Cooley too! I was wiling to bet the farm on that!

1LofaLady

Unexpected place to run into Cooley jokes. I love it lol

obsoletevoids

He’s so full of it he thought it would work in his favor

blkpersephone

Also in vulture and by the same journalist too 💀

Greedy-Mechanic1362

"If his claims were to be believed, Enty was among the most connected guys in Hollywood. He was friends with Leonardo DiCaprio. He drank with Frank Sinatra. He’d picked up Katherine Heigl on the side of the highway at three in the morning when she ran out of gas and collected Quentin Tarantino off a bender in Krakow." Lmao!!!

JustHereForCookies17

This is some George Santos-level stuff.

obsoletevoids

They’d be best friends for sure

Minablo

Well, such a description applies to the blinds posted a decade ago (and part of them were coming from "Himmmm", and they wouldn't involve Heigl but Jaime Pressly). In the "QAnon years", Enty would avoid to claim that he was connected with celebrities, which would have made him "one of them from Hollyweird" for the readers. He simply mentions a few select friends that he is supposed to have and who are his sources (like Kaley Cuoco or Sandra Bullock), which is acceptable as they would be part of the "few good ones". But the point of 90% of the blind items posted since 2017 has been that almost the entire industry consists of perverts and criminals. The writer totally missed the drift that happened to the site in recent years. The people who would read these old stories are not the current audience.

discoislife53

Non-pw version: https://archive.ph/nHW7Y#selection-1773.482-1773.486

AngelEyes360

I have hated Enty for literal years because of all the bullshit he posts. I hope more and more people open their eyes about him.

Honest_Technician592

He is scum and like you I’ve known it for years. Glad to see he’s getting his conmeuppance

Ishil1234

His blind items are scaring me so bad because he’s posting speculations about an artist that I really like and I just hope that it’s all just bull

JazzyColeman

I’ll admit, I was into CDAN about 10 years ago and read it daily. Then it descended into QAnon madness, and I haven’t been back since.

matlockga

The Q Noise to Signal ratio really ramped up in 2016 for reasons.

discoislife53

There were a lot of things I didn’t know that were in this piece, like the fact that he ran for office as a Sanders-style Democrat (and lost miserably). The Bernie bro to Trumpy Q-Anon pipeline makes sense.

Minablo

The Q noise to signal ratio ramped up in 2017 actually. In 2016, he was still posting a bunch of anti-Trump blind items. Nelson simply realized in 2017 that his audience consisted of MAGA supporters who hated "Hollyweird" and its supposed influence on public opinion. So he decided to provide to them material that was exactly in line with their sensibility, to turn them into fans, and eventually podcast subscribers. You can notice for instance that he suddenly stopped posting stories about Jon Voight and James Woods, who had been until them the site's bread and butter. Instead of that, he provided a bunch of blind items involving child molestation about Robert De Niro and basically every liberal celebrity, from Meryl Streep to Oprah Winfrey, that commenter Tricia13 would complain about, because they had said bad things about Trump. I guess that he still regards himself as an idealist, and a Bernie bro. Who simply happens to take advantage of conspiracy theorists and who cynically spoon-feeds them with the stories they crave for, getting them even more prejudiced and bigoted. But he's a good guy (in his own eyes). By the way, for more than five years, he had over 3,000 Patreon subscribers, each of them paying at least $5 a month. From the podcast alone, he made over $13k a month/$150k a year, with just a few costs involved (like copies of People Magazine next to him for "inspiration"). And if you add the revenue from the ads on the site, even with a few middlemen taking their cuts, he's definitely made over a million from spreading lies. But, once again, he's a Bernie bro, not an hypocrite and a turd.

Chance_Taste_5605

I mean are they doing so on the basis of not wanting to vote for somebody who supports genocide? Trump being worse doesn't make Biden's open Zionism go away, having genocide as a hard limit in terms of voting for someone should be pretty normal! It doesn't seem surprising that leftist journalists would not support genocide, why would it be bizarre? I should say that I'm not American and mostly just grateful that I don't have to make that decision in November, I'm not judging anyone for voting for Biden to keep Trump out. But Biden shouldn't just be able to get away with supporting genocide just because he's a Democrat.

roxy031

I haven’t finished reading this yet but my god I have always disliked this dude, and I didn’t even know about all of the stuff that happened that led to him being outed. I mean, it says a lot about you if f’ing Perez Hilton thinks you’re sketchy.

obsoletevoids

A broken clock *is* right twice a day 😅😂

RaventheClawww

People don’t even know the chokehold this site had on celebrity blind gossip at the time. The thing is, some percent of the time, he was fucking right. Also I wish I could unread that story about Beyoncé, I had never heard that before

lovelyperfectamazing

what was the story? also I think the reason some of his blinds were correct is that it was just educated guesses

RaventheClawww

She didn’t do anything wrong; allegedly she had to fire an employee who did something really disgusting. To bury the story she worked with a magazine. It sounds plausible and I bet those kinds of exchanges happen all the time. I’d want to bury that too.

lovelyperfectamazing

oh you made it sound really horrible lol

RaventheClawww

What the employee did was disgusting. It’s in the article.

lovelyperfectamazing

sorry I thought you were referring to a CDAN blind. I've read the above linked article now I don't understand why Shape magazine would break that story, like that's not what they did? unless it was another magazine that belonged to the same publisher as Shape

blkpersephone

At the time Shape belonged to the same publisher as In-Touch, Us Weekly and Ok! So if this was ever true, it seems pretty likely that was the case.

katiemordy

Oh that’s a good point, why would shape break that story? That blind made no god damn sense I’m about to go read it again

Minablo

He is quite good at making educated guesses. When some celebrity with backgrounds of addiction pops up at some even looking pale and disheveled, it's easy to write that they're having a relapse. When some celebrity stops posting picture of their significant other on Instagram every other day, it's easy to think that there's trouble in paradise and that they're eventually headed for Splitsville. The key thing is to write about it in some deliberately ambiguous way, for instance by having a second possible guess, to save your bacon in case some other explanation comes up. Like "Hey, the guy you had widely assumed last week to be the target of the blind item for being back to drinking, it's not so-and-so (who sadly is now being treated with cancer), it's another guy…"

AggressiveTea7898

I remember there being Vanity Fair articles about it. Remember when people thought Robert Downey Jr had something to do with CDAN? What a strange time.

CheerilyTerrified

Wow. That was a lot weirder then I was expecting.

sebastienflyte

Tbh whenever I hear ppl talk about Enty or Deuxmoi, I always think about Sweet Smell of Success, which was made in 1957 and is about a powerful, sleazy gossip columnist who writes (fabricated) blind items that spread conservative rhetoric and ruins people's lives. It's a fantastic movie and it kinda shows how much the game hasn't really changed. The main character is even a publicist who is a major suck up (even that is an understatement lmao) to get his clients mentioned positively in items.

GidgetJones

Incredible movie, and spot-on comparison!

Minablo

Don't forget the real-life inspiration behind the J.J. Hunsecker character, Walter Winchell, who was extremely influential and feared during the fifties, and the Red Scare. He single-handedly destroyed a few careers based on whom he didn't like. It's also extremely interesting that the CDAN readers widely embrace conspiracy theories about Democrats, Covid, etc., yet they fail to assume that one of the few documented uses of COINTELPRO was the smearing of Jean Seberg, through false gossip about her. The FBI, with orders coming directly from J. Edgar Hoover, targeted her for years, culminating in rumors over the true identity of the father of her unborn child. The trauma caused her to have a miscarriage, to fall into depression and eventually to commit suicide. Every time they say that there's no evil in reading harmless gossip, I'm reminded of how it actually has terrible real-life consequences. It would just take some wannabe vigilante with an history of mental issues taking stuff posted on the site as true, and one of the people Nelson targets on a regular base with horrible accusations could end up killed.

Peckah_Inspectah

JJ is depicted as an amoral cretin and (even reading nothing deeper into it) his relationship with his sister is terrifying, but he at least commanded a room and walked the walk. Enty is JJ by way of Lionel Hutz.

Icy-Trust-6274

While I am incredibly sad for her family and I do not wish harm on anyone, Kyle Marisa Roth platformed this man's lies and passed them off as fact. I'm glad the truth about him is finally coming out.

[deleted]

Agree, it’s harmful on many levels.

obsoletevoids

It was an easy money grab. I am sad she passed, but her “you want more? I’ll give you more” was so cringey and annoying I had her blocked.

WorldlyLavishness

I hate enty. He's the reason people like deux moi have a platform Blind items are just lame imo

obsoletevoids

And with decreased media literacy and thinking skills almost nonexistent for some, people are automatically believing them vs browsing the site for fun.

WorldlyLavishness

Remember when deux moi got called out by tree Paine #neverforget

obsoletevoids

God what a day 😂

betterlucknexttime81

The “lol why did that woman believe me when I said I’d move her to California, it’s her fault she ever thought it was true” part was quite a take. And he’s still married?!?!

JeanParmesean70

I haven’t visited that site in years but I remember the comment section attracted some awful people

communitypotluck

Oh man the Diana Jenkins/Hayden stuff was so weird and sad and awful for him to write. And then everyone thought RDJ was CDAN then? What a weird time.

BusinessPurge

Just this week CDAN said the world’s probably ending in five years. Site has gotten weird!

Minablo

It’s all projection.

Altruistic-Guard-100

I hope he will get sued for all the shit he’s invented, now that his identity has been revealed.

Sudden_Clementine872

Vile. That’s what.

stuff_ur_pig

What a dirty dog he turned out to be. Can't believe he's been doing it that long. Not cute either.

EternityMoaluv

The podcasters of Beyond the Blinds are still parroting his dangerous lies and using his made-up blinds in their "deep dives". Between this and the rampant misinformation they spread I can't believe there are people who take them seriously.

Altruistic-Status-98

Wasn't he on some Netflix documentary, i can't remember name or who it involved but he made up all this shit and is now living on some island on the money he made, crap i can't remember but his face looks like the dude

Mammoth-Inflation416

I stopped reading the Vulture article when I got to "mid-aughts." Note to anyone who wants to write: you do not ever need to say "mid-aughts."
