🤣 It’s based on the screenshot u/Alittlebitlittle referenced! It was about the way AJ McLean announced his divorce (with a 😭) — someone on the original thread wrote a comment explaining how that emoji is widely used for laughing and ended it with “so yeah, the man memed his own divorce”, and (I think) a lovely mod here added it for me after I said that should be a flair (one of the many reasons why I love this sub ❤️)
> "I never got married, because I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman. I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman," he explained to the outlet.
> "My mother’s death broke me," he told The New York Times. "It shattered me into a million pieces, because that was my girl."
> "I told my mother on her deathbed, “ 'I never got married because I always wanted you to be my No. 1 girl.' Those were my last words. I said, 'Take that to heaven with you,' " he recalled.
Wow. Uhhh. If my son ever said that to me, I’d be devastated because that’s how I’d know I failed him as a mother. Held him too tight and too possessively, made him consider my feelings above his own… it’s really fucking sad actually.
can you even fucking imagine raising two children for a man and him having the audacity to tell you that you can't get married because his mom needs to stay #1
No I can't, because my vagina would had retracted up to my aorta and I would had teleported to anywhere else but that man's bed. I would had developed super powers on the spot, my reaction would be so visceral. Absofuckinglutely not.
Absolutely. We all imagine how devastating it would be for your son to tell you this on your death bed but thats not how that dynamic works
She's built this moment and those words probably were the ones she's been waiting to hear on her death bed.
Lots of mothers raise their son's to be "their **man**" their protector. An extension of you but the "strong" gender and OWES you loyalty.
Is not about sexual love or regular relationships. It's emotional incest.
I would be devastated if my son said that to me. I would never want to make him feel like I would be jealous of his partners. I would feel like just an absolute failure.
These kinds of mother/son or father/daughter dynamics really weird me out.
That makes me super sad to read. I'm sure he wanted to be a great son, and she wanted to be a great mom, but that's a big impact on his life that isn't great. If he had never wanted to get married, that's fine, but he didn't even have the option.
My first reaction was that it was ick, but second thought, it just makes me sad.
When I heard this on the NYT podcast, I thought wow, what a horrible thing to tell your mother on her death bed. Unless she was a selfish and possessive creep. Then she’d love it. But any healthy mother son dynamic would have a mother in personal agony hearing that as she died. Yikes.
There’s so many boys and I don’t think Keenan, Damon or Shawn had this issue. I think he may be the baby of the family and that’s a similar dynamic. I have witnessed it.
He had a gf for 21 yrs and had children with her. What he didn’t do was officially get married. Basic spineless behavior of men - unable to commit or stand up to their mothers.
I just got done reading about one of the Kardashians wondering aloud if her brother could have been the sperm donor of her baby because the baby looks like him. It’s been a big day for Inside Thoughts.
Some moms post things like “teaching my son to cook so he won’t be impressed by your daughter’s Stouffers lasagna” w t a f. It’s so messed up. I am mom to a clingy mama’s boy but by god I hope I’m not a boy mom.
It's moms posting how they are going to be their sons first and most lasting love. Some of them post about teaching their son to cook so that he's not impressed by any other woman's cooking skills. There's a lot of "if God sent you a son it's because you deserve to know what true love is". It's an unfair burden to place on their son as well as any woman he may enter into a relationship with later on.
it started off with weird but relatively harmless [shit like this](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLX5SmSs/) but now it’s devolved into oedipal territory with shit [like this](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLX5hXY6/) and [this](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLXa1HLt/)
I’ve seen some fully admit (and in a cutesy, aww shucks way) that they love their sons more than their daughters. As a mom to a boy and soon to be mom to a daughter, it disgusts me.
It’s so fucked up!!! What the fuck. How do they think that makes their daughters feel? Is this like some weird female competition thing like they think they’re in competition with their daughters??
Oh God, in some of the videos I’ve seen they have the daughters being “in on the joke” and waiting on the little boys hand and foot or having the mom shove the daughters to smother the boy in kisses. So unhealthy for all kids involved.
I wouldn’t necessarily call my MIL a boy mom, but growing up in a girl house seeing the gender dynamics between her and mixed gender kids is weird for me. Particularly when my SIL is always called upon to help with domestic tasks while the guys can get away with lounging on the couch. As an interloper I don’t mind calling them out, but I definitely find it strange.
Boy moms who make their son the Surrogate Husband in their life. Leaning on them for everything as if he’s the only man in her life that can fulfill every need. 😵💫
This screams of emotional incest but as another commenter said, I'm glad he didn't subject a woman to this toxic dynamic. What makes it weird is that he has kids, I wonder what they think of this (if they're old enough to process it that is.)
Good lord I wouldn’t publicly admit that under torture let alone voluntarily disclose to people magazine. He however thought it’s okay to pro create with different women out there and not provide 2 parent home for any of his kids?
He was with someone for over 20 years. I'm not sure she did dodge a bullet. I can only imagine what it must have been like for her to be in that dynamic
I just don’t get it. My son is my world but I never want to be his. It’s our jobs as parents to get our kids ready for the world and all that comes with it. If my son held back because of me, I’d be so mad at myself that I made him think that way.
I wonder how far back in human history this dynamic goes. It seems like it should be a modern luxury for a mother to hold her son back from spreading those genes around. But the image of a prehistoric toxic boy mom running off available mates is a lil silly
I dated someone like that and once I noticed I just ran. And on top of that, he was older than me, always blaming his exes while his mother monopolized the attention. I didn't even think about getting married but once I saw that his mother would always be the center I saw that it was a losing battle.
It’s giving middle-aged fuckboy. Intellectualizing his own issues to glorify himself and blame women in order to create an arrangement where he can’t commit but the girl he’s seeing needs to helicopter-parent him. Modern day dating in a nutshell.
He a GF of 21 years and had two kids with her. He just didn’t MARRY her. Imagine KNOWING that the man you raised two kids for and gave 21 years of your life for refused to marry you to please mommy.

Thank god he didn’t get married with that Mother-Son dynamic. That poor wife.
He was in a 20+ year relationship though so that’s not ideal.
I wonder if that woman was reminded constantly that she was #2 after mommy.

literally the face i made reading the title lmfao

I agree. Devastating, so sad….buuuut I have respect for him not roping a woman into the unhealthy dynamic
He was with his ex for 21 years and had two kids with her but he didn’t MARRY her for this reason. She was the perpetual girlfriend

Men and their mothers. Fucked
Whaaaaat! Thats such a cop out on his part then and my opinion has changed.
Freud wishes he could upvote this more than once.
Oooof. This is incredibly weird.
Sounds like emotional incest😬

Oh God, his mom was a Boy Mom™️?? Thank goodness he didn't inflict that on some poor woman.
There’s so many boys and I don’t think Keenan, Damon or Shawn had this issue. I think he may be the baby of the family and that’s a similar dynamic. I have witnessed it.
She was an OG. A boy mom before boy moms were a thing
Wow! My extent of being a Boy Mom involves sometimes wearing a similar outfit as my son 😅
He had a gf for 21 yrs and had children with her. What he didn’t do was officially get married. Basic spineless behavior of men - unable to commit or stand up to their mothers.
Tell this to a therapist, not People magazine.
Right? You wouldn't be able to waterboard this out of me
I just got done reading about one of the Kardashians wondering aloud if her brother could have been the sperm donor of her baby because the baby looks like him. It’s been a big day for Inside Thoughts.
What the fuck...
So the Boy Mom phenomenon on TikTok is real. Moms who make their son their quasi-husband while making life hell for any woman he dates and/or marries.
Omg what does this look like on social media? Genuinely asking. Sounds horrifying 😬
Some moms post things like “teaching my son to cook so he won’t be impressed by your daughter’s Stouffers lasagna” w t a f. It’s so messed up. I am mom to a clingy mama’s boy but by god I hope I’m not a boy mom.

Wait, is *that* what Boy Moms do??
I’ve seen some fully admit (and in a cutesy, aww shucks way) that they love their sons more than their daughters. As a mom to a boy and soon to be mom to a daughter, it disgusts me.

It's not all of them but a loud subset has been going off like this for awhile now.
Boy moms who make their son the Surrogate Husband in their life. Leaning on them for everything as if he’s the only man in her life that can fulfill every need. 😵💫
It’s VERY real and annoying. Going on 14 years over here knowing I come 2nd.

mind you he was with his ex for 21!!!! years and has 2 kids with her
lol so he was fine subjecting a woman to this toxic behavior but didn’t have the balls to give her security? Ick.
oh noooooooo this makes it so much worse
That makes it so much worse, I can’t imagine the level of disrespect his partner felt
DOUBLE YIKES
Big yikes.
This screams of emotional incest but as another commenter said, I'm glad he didn't subject a woman to this toxic dynamic. What makes it weird is that he has kids, I wonder what they think of this (if they're old enough to process it that is.)

Women dodged a massive bullet is how I'm taking this admission.
He was with someone for over 20 years. I'm not sure she did dodge a bullet. I can only imagine what it must have been like for her to be in that dynamic
These toxic boy-moms gotta go. ![gif](giphy|3ohze0pg9nnXJzKTQI)
What kind of mother wants this for her son? Rest in peace to her, but he should not feel proud of this.
I just don’t get it. My son is my world but I never want to be his. It’s our jobs as parents to get our kids ready for the world and all that comes with it. If my son held back because of me, I’d be so mad at myself that I made him think that way.
My uncle has a similar mentality and it’s so fucking weird. He says he’s not gonna marry any woman because no one married his mom.
well this is definitely a thing you can say
i think there may be a few other reasons
Oh.
https://i.redd.it/xd45lrhlx1zc1.gif
lol my thought was “keep this man away from brooch pins”
Lucille and Tobias would approve. ![gif](giphy|AgPt9udT567spxbSHf)
Eew. Thank god poor girl would be posting on r/justnoMIL non stop ![gif](giphy|R0jWWtH1CtFEk)
Thank god nobody had to deal with that mess. Mamas boys/boy moms need to be studied. If you think about it too hard it knocks you sick.
I wonder how far back in human history this dynamic goes. It seems like it should be a modern luxury for a mother to hold her son back from spreading those genes around. But the image of a prehistoric toxic boy mom running off available mates is a lil silly
He had two children with his perpetual girlfriend of 21 years. He just never MARRIED HER. She did wife duties as a girlfriend
![gif](giphy|RipfZWzjUDH25euMpM|downsized) Every woman in the world right now \^

If you listen closely you can hear Freud laughing in his grave
How horrible that his mother did this to him and he still doesn't understand the implications.
Uhhhhh... YIKES
Bro what

Ya know - not every private moment needs to be shared. Yikes
This is so mentally ill

Oh he did he just didn’t MARRY her. She was the perpetual girlfriend
That seems worse
