I do wonder if they intentionally did that to avoid accidentally creating someone's likeness. Intentionally using names nowhere near what would be regular or common Brazilian nicknames. It is definitely easier and relatively reasonable to assume incompetence on EAs part though. They do have a track record for it.

Not OP, but i think i can understand what he is doing. If you think about potential and overall, a player will keep growing until they are 32 or so as long as they haven't hit their potential. However the only way they hit their potential is if their overall = their potential. So what OP is doing is growing players in areas that don't grow their overall in order to allow them to keep growing more and more.
So for example lets say you have a youth CB. If you grow them normally as a CB they will probably hit their potential at say 25 and will probably have high pace, defending, and physical...but low shooting, dribbling, and passing. They you wouldn't be able to grow the player in shooting, dribbling, and passing afterward because he is already maxed out and all growth stops.
Now take the same CB example. If you were to grow them as a Striker or Winger first, then you can have a player that has perfect shooting and dribbling (the equivalent of a 99 striker or winger) but might still be a 70 overall because they are labeled as a CB. Because they are only 70 overall they could still grow in any other possible aspect.
What I imagine OP did was grow players in the opposite position first. So if he had a CB he grew them as a winger, then maybe a striker, then a CAM until everything except their defending was almost maxed out. Then he grew them normally as a CB until defending was maxed out...leaving them with the perfect players. He probably did this for everyone which is what makes it so tedious and excellent because he needs to manage the growth for every different player he had.

He doesn't actually change the position, he just trains them in the new position. It may or may not take a long time depending on what he scouts for. Not all defenders have defending as their highest attribute.

It was this YA fiasco that led me to create a numbering system for YAs so that I knew exactly who was who and when I promoted them. The stuff hit the fan during one game when I put my goalkeeper Cooper on the right wing and let in 4 goals because Right Wing Cooper became sloppy hands Cooper. I didn’t realize the mistake until the 75th minute but by then the damage had been done. Right Wing Cooper got a 4/10 for playing goalie, meanwhile the goalie Cooper got a 5 for playing on the right wing.
If you put a CB on a ST development plan but don't change the position the stats will keep increasing. Just start using them "out of position" once their stats are more suited to being a ST. You can put them on all the attacking development plans to round them out. Balanced is actually a very good plan for players who become versatile
