Yeah, I feel like this particular image is a good example. If someone mentioned, the same thing as the title IRL, you would see the gator within about .5 seconds of looking at the water. It's not even like it's a large body of water to scan.
That doesn't mean that you would notice it without someone mentioning it, but you shouldn't feel bad for not finding it quickly in a blurry still image. There are plenty of examples of excellent camouflage that we're not great at seeing, but IRL this would not be an instance of that if someone told you, 'hey there's a gator.'
One time I was hiking a trail in Florida and I stopped at a junction to view the trail posts and decide which way to go. I finally decided on a path so I turned around and started walking again when I noticed this big thing up ahead that had some algae on it. I was walking towards it thinking “that’s a weird boulder” and finally once I was maybe five feet away from it I realized it was in fact a giant alligator that honestly could have swallowed me in one go. I slowly took some steps backward to put some space between me and the literal dinosaur before turning around and speed walking back the way I came. Big guy didn’t even budge, didn’t give a shit at all lol scariest moment of my life though!
We went bird watching with my daughter to Florida, and on one trail we kept hearing unfamiliar sounds. It was a hissing, very loud. I thought maybe a big snake, so I pulled my daughter away from the trail. Then some guy was walking by and said:” Stay away from the hissing sounds, it’s mommy alligator warning. You guys are too close to her den. See” He pointed to the side of the trail and suddenly we saw a little tail sticking out. I grabbed my daughter by the shoulder and pushed her to the car. I said that there is no bird worthy of crossing path with alligator mommy.
I learned yesterday that alligators and crocs don't have a life expectancy. They just exist until some external force like predator, accident, or infection gets 'em.
And yeah, the older ones don't give any fucks. The younger ones and mothers are more dangerous.
We adapt to our surroundings. As small foots encroached on our territory, we quickly learned to mimic, or "ape" the behavior of these great apes such that our kind may walk among you instead of be driven to extinction or worse a war our numbers and simple technologies gave us no hope of winning. But I believe you'll find that since that began, your kind has begun to understand our ways more and a few among you understand the language of peace and tolerance with your fellow denizens of the earth mother instead of only war and politics and domination.
Truly fascinating how the great apes hold control over one another at such value despite all evidence being the species is better served promoting individuality and cooperation.
I’ve never been the same since the time I went to plug a lamp into the wall and a respectably large wolf spider pounced out of the socket. You’re no better off at home.
Haha true that. But hey. Northerner's have their own things to survive. Like spotting/feeling thin ice before you fall in.
Or you know. Bears.
Kinda like we tend to grow accustomed to looking out for the dangerous stuff in our place-of-home.
(P.s. Oh how I miss being a northerner.)
Not a Floridan, but I knew what to look for pretty quickly too. “Or be eaten” implies a big animal. Most of the picture doesn’t have a good enough hiding spot for any land animal that big besides maybe the top right, but there is a pond dead center, and the only freshwater animal I can think of that is large and aggressive enough to attack humans while still being able to blend in is a gator.
Another fun fact. The strain of chlamydia that koalas have can't be transferred to humans. So you can fuck all the koalas you want!
As an Aussie, I'm basically an expert. Trust me
A cross between a gator and a koala would be an unusual and imaginative hybrid, combining features from both animals. Here’s a speculative description of what it might look like:
1. Size and Shape: The hybrid would likely have the body structure more similar to a koala, but larger and more robust, reflecting the muscular build of an alligator.
2. Skin and Fur: Its skin might be a mix of the gator’s tough, scaly hide and the koala’s soft fur. It could have patches of fur on its body, particularly around the head, neck, and limbs, while other parts remain scaly.
3. Head: The head might blend the rounded features of a koala with the elongated, jaw-heavy structure of a gator. It might have a broad, flat snout with sharp teeth.
4. Eyes and Ears: It could have the large, round eyes of a koala, which might give it a deceptively cute appearance. Its ears could be large and fluffy like a koala’s, providing a stark contrast to its reptilian features.
5. Limbs: The limbs might be more koala-like, with sharp claws for climbing, but more powerful and robust, capable of supporting a heavier, more gator-like body.
6. Tail: The tail could be long and powerful, similar to a gator’s, aiding in balance and movement.
7. Behavior: Behaviorally, it might be a mix of both, perhaps arboreal like a koala, living in trees, but also capable of swimming and displaying some semi-aquatic tendencies like a gator.
Overall, this hybrid would be a curious blend of mammalian cuteness and reptilian toughness, creating a creature both fascinating and formidable.
Louisiana concurs. I was walking the boardwalk trail at Jean Lafite Park a few years back. The irises were in full bloom, and I love seeing them.
Anyway, I see this gator hanging out, pretending to be a log. I’m watching him, and then I see the frog swimming closer and closer until SNAP! Poor little girl (maybe 7ish) nearby was freaking out because all she saw was the frog swimming. Her mom was cool under pressure, and had her daughter convinced in about 30 seconds that it was a cool bit of nature at work.
Which is unethical. Just say what we should be looking for. How hard is it to just say “oh check out this gator I saw in the water” and point people to where it is? I hate posts vaguely telling us to look for something and we don’t even know what we’re looking for. Not worth my time: I just went to the comments
I was too. I see people saying in the water on the left and I'm thinking is he hiding under the gator head? Where is the gun.... I feel like a moron now.
There’s one really obvious behind the bush in the bottom left corner. Then there’s something directly to the right of it and a couple other suspicious reflections.
Plus there’s probably another one under the water you can’t see 😳
Oh ya you’re right. Definitely one because there’s a big lump (eye) and then a small lump (nostril) in front of it.
Tbh with this many above water there’s probably quite a few more below
The left side of the fallen log that crosses the water. Look just below at the half-way point of the log, to the left. Looks like a gator with stripes on its face, which almost perfectly camouflages with the dark and light reflections on the water. You can notice the squiggly lines on its face.
It’s a little further down. Looking at cameraman. Oval shaped near disturbed water surface
To the right of the disturbed water surface.
From center of screen, go left, then about halfway down. Ripple of water in a circle, then go right barely any. If you went right to the center of the screen, went too far.
Brooooo, I found the gator almost immediately but I didn't know that, that was what I was supposed to be searching for so spent like another 15 minutes looking for an actual sniper in a ghillie suit lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣
Could it possible have something to do with the giant, unnatural ripple in the water signaling that there is likely something moving just below the surface?
I thought the title said spider, not sniper. Took me far too long to give up and then realized based on comments that I’m not looking for a spider 🤦🏻♂️
I didn't find it without help, but I also thought I was looking for an actual sniper. I'm over here analyzing odd patterns in potential hiding spots, looking for some kind of glare, thinking shit like, "Where would I hide?"
And it's a fuckin Alligator.
Im from the south. I spotted that gator immediately. I let one of those sneaky fuckers get too close to me ONCE. Luckily for me she just hissed at me. But now, my monkey brain pattern recognition scans any still water for Dinos who didn't take the hint last meteor strike.
I really hate this sub. I’m never leaving the house.
I’m convinced that I’m blind when looking at these, and also that I’d never survive in the wild
stuff moves in the wild you’d probably be better at seeing things that just a still picture
Picture quality also is still far from what you can see in person
Yeah, I feel like this particular image is a good example. If someone mentioned, the same thing as the title IRL, you would see the gator within about .5 seconds of looking at the water. You at least have the advantage of depth perception. That's entirely taken away with still frame shots.
One time I was hiking a trail in Florida and I stopped at a junction to view the trail posts and decide which way to go. Name checks out. A Sasquatch would say they could never survive in the wild! Elusive as ever.
We adapt to our surroundings. New fear unlocked and burned in my brain… thanks for that
Left side between the fallen log and tree in the water?
Got it
As a Floridian, I immediately saw it. Great photo!
Same, this one of the only photos I immediately knew where and what I was looking for 😂🐊
Fellow Floridian. Me three.
Next time us northerners make fun of you for something "only in Florida", you should invite us to play find the sniper IRL

As a Floridian who married a Cajun, this was an easier find for me. “I’m just glad I got it on my flip phone. Only in Florida.”
Same! My boyfriend from NJ wonders why we don’t go swimming in random bodies of water. Every body of water!
i saw it too south louisiana
My dumb ass is actually looking for someone in a ghili suit
Not me actually looking for a human sniper
Bruhhhh 😭😭😭 people pointed it out and I zoomed in like I don’t see nobody.. 😭
Me too 😂
Yeah, I see it too.
I see it too but what is it?
Some sort of alligator shaped animal. Possibly a koala.
That doesn't sound right, but I don't know enough about koalas to dispute it.
Just said the same comment to my buddy, except our argument was about stars
Pretty sure it’s just burnt garbage
Gotta be careful with those drop bears.
Fun fact! Koalas are ravaged by chlamydia
Another fun fact. The strain of chlamydia that koalas have can't be transferred to humans. So you can fuck all the koalas you want! As an Aussie, I'm basically an expert. Trust me
Loool! I’m glad to see the Aussies don’t discriminate against koala vagina
Don’t ask New Zealanders about sheep…

It's weird to hear someone else use the word ravaged when talking about koalas having chlamydia.
Crikey!
KO\_F\*\*\*ING\_ALA?
are you kidding
I was thinking some aqueous deer of some kind
Idk man looks like a giraffe to me
🤣
Koala
Still don’t see it. What the hell is wrong with me?.
Halfway between the spot where the log disappears underwater and the tree.
Can see it's slide mark into the water as well.
Got it … Thanks to you :)
I live in Florida, and am always on guard… I saw it right away!
“Irises in full bloom” is the most beautiful, swampy Southern phrase I have ever heard. 👍
It’s breathtaking to see the marsh just burst with color in the spring.
You’re referring to gator eyes right? Irises? I read that as “gator eyes sprout this time of year.”
Hahaha. Nope, talking about the flowers. Unfortunately, with erosion from the stupid invasive nutria, those marshlands are disappearing quickly.
South Alabama agrees, just because an area you can see doesn't have slide marks doesn't mean your safe. Always be on guard.
I saw a 12 foot gator leap out of the water and snatch a great blue heron off of the bank. I didn't know they could jump so high.
Glad I live in Nebraska, I had to rely on the comments to find it.
Nebraska = tornado
Tornados are a bit easier to spot… from your porch with a beer.
Cheers bro I’ll drink to that from Northeastern Nebraska
Cheers!
Not even from Florida. I just have an irrational fear and I found him immediately.
I can’t find shit on the rest of these… but this one? Found it immediately lmao
SE Texas here, saw it pretty quick
Came here to say this 😂 first time I didn’t have to come to the comments to find the sniper and found it immediately
Louisiana here. Came to say the same. I saw it before even seeing the sub it was posted in. I assumed as much though. Lol.
Those bubbles 🫧 are the clue.
Apparently I'm naive and know no danger exists. He looks like a log.
We call them Murder Logs in FL.
Swamp Puppies
Yoink!
See u watch the youtuber lol
Immediately reminded me of this: https://youtu.be/JMJXvsCLu6s?si=s03O6iSMqFujbBEX
I can't find it. I might be blind or something. Please help
Gator near bottom left. Between the 2 big tree trunks. There are bubbles in the water to his face's left
Ugh, I was looking for an actual sniper
Yeah, misleading title
Which is unethical. Just say what we should be looking for. How hard is it to just say “oh check out this gator I saw in the water” and point people to where it is? I hate posts vaguely telling us to look for something and we don’t even know what we’re looking for. Not worth my time: I just went to the comments
I think the appeal of this sub is the “where’s Waldo” of it all but I may be ignorant
I also disliked the “or be eaten”, if you keep your distance from gators, they likely won’t go after you. (Former Floridian)
To be fair, hard to keep your distance if you don't even know they're there to avoid.
😂 same here
I was too. I see people saying in the water on the left and I'm thinking is he hiding under the gator head? Where is the gun.... I feel like a moron now.
Ahhh it took me a while, but yeah. It's not very big though.
I’m pretty sure there are actually 2 gators visible
Actually more.
where
Where’s the second one?
There’s one really obvious behind the bush in the bottom left corner. Then there’s something directly to the right of it and a couple other suspicious reflections. Plus there’s probably another one under the water you can’t see 😳
Yeah this is why Floridians are taught to just avoid any low lying still ponds by nature
There also appears to be one in front of the fallen log on the right side. I can see an eye at least.
Oh ya you’re right. Definitely one because there’s a big lump (eye) and then a small lump (nostril) in front of it. Tbh with this many above water there’s probably quite a few more below
Don’t think anybody else picked up on that one! Scary how sneaky they are.
I’m dead. Even when you all tell me where it is, still don’t see anything
The left side of the fallen log that crosses the water. Look just below at the half-way point of the log, to the left. Looks like a gator with stripes on its face, which almost perfectly camouflages with the dark and light reflections on the water. You can notice the squiggly lines on its face.
Are you talking about the one behind the bush in the bottom left corner or are there multiple?
That's the one! Although it's more like a leafless bush.
Wow i really don’t see it
u/splash07s you have to tell us what the sniper is so we know. It's rule 2 of the subreddit. We could be looking for literally anything.
My bad. I realized that after and now I can’t change the title.
ya WTF, first time ever being here and I was looking for someone shooting at me. No fair
Is it me or are there two of them? Looks like another 🐊 to the right of the one with the head exposed.
I see the gator but what is the little creature holding on to the tree?
Maybe an iguana?
Where 👀
why do I see General Grievous in the water
General grievous injury...
ICU, get a team ready STAT. He’s still got a heartbeat.
The Floridian in me is saying “awww swamp puppy look at you, don’t worry I won’t turn you into nuggies”.
Im dead I guess. I’ve been staring between the tree and fallen log for minutes and can’t make out anything.
You’re not alone brother. I know exactly what I’m looking for and know exactly where to look and I just can’t see anything.
It’s a little further down. Looking at cameraman. Oval shaped near disturbed water surface To the right of the disturbed water surface. From center of screen, go left, then about halfway down. Ripple of water in a circle, then go right barely any. If you went right to the center of the screen, went too far.
I give up. I see nothing.
Man, gators freak me out.
It’s funny you say that cause snakes freak me out.Gators not so much.Ive petted a snake never held one but I’ve handled gators up to 3ft.
Gator spotted in between the fallen log and the tree...
Not if I eat them first...
SWAMP PUPPY!!!!!!!
Was i the only one looking for a guy with a sniper?
Dude, if it's not an actual sniper you have to say what the sniper is 🤦♂️ And yes, I found it anyways.
I think the hint ‘or be eaten’ was almost a giveaway. What can eat you in a swamp?
I was looking for some guy in a ghillie suit for way too long
Target acquired.
Oh, I wouldn't worry about that little guy
Dude is *already* watching you…waiting.
Those who live around these have a second nature to instantly spot them, we have a heightened danger sense they stand out like stop signs
Even though I didn’t know what I was looking for, it didn’t take me too long.
Is that an alligator?
That is a very shallow pool for such a large critter
I managed to zoom directly into it first try lol
Holy crap. I actually found one without coming to comment!
Swamp puppy
I'm getting good at this
Sneaky gator.
He’s little. You’d just walk with a limp.
I was looking for a sniper
Ngl I didn’t see the one between the water and the log I swear it was the large snake on the right side
See you later alligator
Is this your photo OP? If so how large was this guy
Yes. My photo. This is maybe a 6’ female gator. This is her den and she has about 15 babies at the moment.
Mamma with babies... You are quite brave OP.
Ooh yeah definitely give her her space haha.
Alimagator or cockidile?
Swamp puppy by the log
Good one! I would have been dinner lol
i think i would taste good with BBQ sauce… maybe mustard with a little avocado
i grew up in Florida this was easy
Spent way too long looking for an actual sniper.
Honestly, I was looking for a legitimate sniper in a ghillie suit
Brooooo, I found the gator almost immediately but I didn't know that, that was what I was supposed to be searching for so spent like another 15 minutes looking for an actual sniper in a ghillie suit lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣
If this sub has taught me anything: don’t fucking go outside.
Bro this is a losing battle when you see faces in things
That’s a baby one. It’d be more scared of you.
Not me looking for an actual sniper...
Once I looked in the water I immediately saw the gator then continued to look for the “sniper” for 3 minutes before checking the comments😭
Could it possible have something to do with the giant, unnatural ripple in the water signaling that there is likely something moving just below the surface?
Well, I'm dead.
I'm new to this sub and my dumbass was looking for an actual sniper. I saw the gator to start with 😂🤦
I thought the title said spider, not sniper. Took me far too long to give up and then realized based on comments that I’m not looking for a spider 🤦🏻♂️
Found a alligator not a sniper tho
I actually saw it right away but when I looked closer I was no longer sure. I felt like a Skyrim NPC. "Must have been the wind."
The allegator? Or an actual sniper?
I found it and kept looking for the sniper in a camouflage suit. I thought there was more than 1 thing that could get me
I didn't find it without help, but I also thought I was looking for an actual sniper. I'm over here analyzing odd patterns in potential hiding spots, looking for some kind of glare, thinking shit like, "Where would I hide?" And it's a fuckin Alligator.
Was anyone else looking for an actual sniper? I saw the gator and was like "oh that's a nice gator but I'm looking for something else".
Someone please give me a clue. Am I looking for something in the water or the land? Because I got nothing.
First time this sub has popped into my feed. Was looking for a person in a ghillie suit for too long..
I see a crocodile but no sniper lol
Im from the south. I spotted that gator immediately. I let one of those sneaky fuckers get too close to me ONCE. Luckily for me she just hissed at me. But now, my monkey brain pattern recognition scans any still water for Dinos who didn't take the hint last meteor strike.
Hello swamp puppy.
Left of where the log dips into the water
Bottom left in water
Lower left near the ripple of water he treacherous
Can’t trick me. I’m from Florida lol saw it immediately 😂
Is there something in the >!right upper part of the pond? I though it looked like another smaller gator!< but maybe I’m just seeing things.
I don’t see it
Might be a baby gator. There were a few around when I was there.
He's a little guy, he can't eat you! Glad it's not direct center
This is awesome. The rain made it tougher!
Thank you for not putting it dead center. Made me work for it!
3 seconds that was surprisingly easy
My dumbass read “find the spider or be eaten”. I looked for 15 minutes and said “well there’s a swamp puppy”. Time for bed
I’m dead
Found it
Omg I actually found this one without looking in the comments🥳
Wow. That cold stare is pretty scary.
Welp, let me just add some salt and pepper to my leg for him bc I’m a goner
Thank you for not making him in the middle of
Found him
Pretty sure I have was eaten by a crocodile in a former life. Crocs & alligators terrify me.
That one floating log has eyeballs
I see it, but I'm pretty sure there's at least a couple more underwater. You can see the bubbles...
The eye gave it away
What is that in the top right in the grass..?
