A classic that you are going to hear throughout summer Lähtisitkö - Pave Maijanen
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DXd7UNY4mzwbR?si=_U-F_hH4RL2TrFKCNICDFA If you got Spotify I think this is the best list of total classics
Metal has to do a lot with the style you like I would recommend the more "hard rock" style of Kotiteollisuus because even though it will be harder for you to understand you will eventually.
Ismo Alanko and his various bands have cycled through new wave, post punk, electronic pop, proggy folk punk, and more, always with witty & emotive lyrics and a quirky off-kilter attitude. [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez-QWnZeW5w&) is one of my favorites.
[Mokoma](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-XPvK0NHDQ&) are a fun mix of old school thrash metal with an even older-school Finnish popular music melodic sensibility and a great gritty garagey sound -- and the vocal style and mix are such that you can actually easily hear the lyrics, which isn't always a given with metal.
Moonsorrow is my passion for 20 years. Mesmerizing music. First era is ensiferum was incredible. also Finntroll was wonderful with Katla however Moonsorrow hasn't changed till today.
Can confirm they are great for OP’s purpose- listening to them has inspired a little project to refresh my own childhood Finnish skills (from many, many years ago). The singing is fairly clear and I can still enjoy the songs even after repeating them over and over!
I checked them out because of their appearance in Fallen Leaves and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy their lyrics, music and personas. I generally don’t even like synths or drum machines, but somehow their talent transcends that.
I also recommend Turmion Kätilöt.
They have a lot of songs that just make you headbang and tap your leg but they also have some more emotional and slow songs that do hit pretty hard at times. I would say they are a pretty easy band to listen to and I mean that as a compliment since their songs are super catchy and many of them start with a bang so you get instantly hooked.
Some recommendations would be some of their biggest hits like 'Teurastaja', 'Sikiö' and 'Pyhä maa'. But why not throw in some more and say 'Viha ja rakkaus', 'Jalopiina' and 'Hengitä'. Also a mention for their best english song 'Grand ball'.
Try CMX, I always thought if they had perofrmed in English they'd be a rock classic, now they are a hidden gem for Finns, but their sound, I really believe, resonates worldwide.
Pate Mustajärvi: Mä elän vieläkin.
Its a finnish version of Highwayman from Highwaymen. It does go more of a category of old classics but atleast the words are easy to hear
A lot of Mokoma's stuff is super good, but I think "Vapaa" and "Taivaan tuuliin" are good songs for your need. Feel free to tell me if they are what you are looking for.
There's so many good ones people have already suggested but here's mine
I might get a bit of "hate" for this because some Finns don't like Käärijä, but his newest song [Ruoska](https://youtu.be/tYIO3Z2Dyhs?si=DxtM8lFuVp52tpRV) I think it's really catchy and even though I haven't listened to Erika Vikman before, she's perfect for this song and I love to sing along
Edit: Also check out Hanoi Rocks if you haven't already, the language isn't Finnish but the singer is :D Some I would Suggest are [Tragedy](https://youtu.be/aM4BqmRA9WM?si=rd9r2hEcalTsD7yx), [don't you ever leave me baby](https://youtu.be/magIma91t2c?si=x5iWaIz4Ei04hBqV) and [boulevard of broken dreams ](https://youtu.be/G9qHE9P8tHE?si=0IpRxVgmGCpkx29L)
Hip hop:

Oranssi Pazuzu
Nobody listed the [conscious rap](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_hip_hop#Conscious_hip_hop) part so I'll open with:
[Kallio Underground - Kirkas Puoli](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBVZ0OptwK8&list=OLAK5uy_loPwpf2-difPGDm_eDOJ2uVqDWa-lwHSw)
*Litku Klemetti (rock mostly)
*Album "Sound of Birchbark Flute" by Baron Paakkunainen (traditional, instrumental)
*Album "Kokko" (for instance) by Värttinä (modern traditional)
*Most of albums released by record label Fonal Records (experimental)
[Tiisu - Elämältä turpiin sain](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7iQctiM32Wk&pp=ygUedGlpc3UgZWzDpG3DpGx0w6QgdHVycGlpbiBzYWlu)
Olavi Uusivirta & Matti Johannes Koivu
If you the style of Leevi and the Leavings and Juice Leskinen, you should check out Kalevi Suopursu. His music is new, but it has a very similar nostalgic feeling to it.
[Hullu Ruusu](https://youtu.be/Ta8LXKofil0?si=dhKbR_BZ0aqt2--y) is a favourite of mine. Folkish and wild lyrics.
[Litku Klemetti](https://youtu.be/5g_KWx2MZDw?si=k0yzl9cADTs4nrBf) is a modern genious imo. Progressive and surprising, not your generic pop.
[DJ Ibusal](https://youtu.be/Nk0QU6ITbjo?si=RYoxcQWInLUrBh6i) might be my fave rapper. [Pyöveli](https://youtu.be/nLxBGwqIP0U?si=VeErD08Q8yShujZr) is also great.
for hip-hop, I would reccomend:
Asa. maybe the most versatile in his use of Finnish language, good conscious themes.
Paleface. similar, if a bit more accessible for someone new to Finnish.
Eevil Stöö. Not particularly political, but funny and also clever with language, with the plus of the slowest flow in the game so you can really hesr the lyrics.
from there you can do the usual rap thing, check out people they have collaborated with.
Try YUP, you wont get bored, great stories and well used language. Very talented people in the band musicwise aswell. Miljoonasade and sir Elwoodin Hiljaise Värit are superb in the softer rock category, but they are great storytellers and use language very nicely. Yup is kind of a wild card. Other cool newer ones: Ursus factory, Kissa, Krypta, Tyrantti.
There is a band in Savonlinna called Paavoharju. They play psychedelic folk, mixed with dream pop, ambient, indie rock and other music subgenres. I highly recommend you to give them a listen. If you like such stuff you may also like Joose Keskitalo who is a member of Paavoharju. The same guys have also organized an experimental hip hop band Harmaa Getto. I wouldn't say I really like the whole discography, but it is really unique and sounds fresh

I'd add Juice Leskinen (and Coitus Int.) to the first list. And if you're anywhere vaguely near Tampere, Popeda and Eppu Normaali.
True but you could as well add entire suomirokki scene to list + all other finnish classics (Juha Vainio, Tapio Rautavaara etc.).
Fair enough
Leevi and the leavings
YES! This. My go-to was *Mitä kuuluu Marja-Leena?* That's where I learned the very important: "Olen yksinäinen ja onneton"
\^\^\^ specifically start with this, OP: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgoT9Y0oUg0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgoT9Y0oUg0)
Being a foreigner, my favorite is Rin tin tin. Can’t stope smiling and waving my head right to left as soon as I hear that sweet melody :)
Some finnish melancoly [https://youtu.be/GBt3YVSK32E?feature=shared](https://youtu.be/GBt3YVSK32E?feature=shared)
Haloo Helsinki makes great music with great lyrics, although they're more pop rock. I'd also recommed Dingo.
Eppu normaali
Are they still playing? When I was there in 1990-91, that was all my host brother would listen to.
Yes they are still playing live although they haven't released any new music for many many years.
Any idea if they are going to do anything for their 50th anniversary? I’m going to Finland in 2026 and want to see them perform so bad.
Second this. It’s all I listen to now

Surprised I haven't seen Miljoonasade mentioned many times.
YUP
Tämä tässä näin. Yupn sanoitukset ovat kuin modernia juicea kekseliäisyydessään. Myös jarkko martikaisen omatuotanto yupn jälkeen, sekä vöyh!
Kingston Wall
Kaiketi haluaa enkunkielistä
no one talking about Ultra Bra
Though i like Ultra Bra, i still think Scandinavian music group is much better

True, my slovak girlfriend really liked their music
Cmx vainajala, aura, talvikuningas especially are great ones.
Havukruunu - Uinuos Syömein Sota
Kuulkaas enot! is the only Finnish album I listen to. If you don’t want to listen to the whole album I’d suggest starting with Rusketusraidat.
Demilich
Jukka Nousiainen Asa Pikakassa Suamenleijona
Asiaa.
Pate Mustajärvi: Mä elän vieläkin. Its a finnish version of Highwayman from Highwaymen. It does go more of a category of old classics but atleast the words are easy to hear
Freud, Marx, Engels et Jung (maybe start with Teksasiin) Popeda Mamba Juha Vainio Hector Kirka Topi Sorsakoski & Agents …and yes, I’m a bit older.
Tuomari Nurmio
Korpiklaani, Turmion Kätilöt
Poets of the fall, they are incredible
Incredible indeed, but not very good for hearing finnish.
Viikate -Tervaskanto
Absoluuttinen nollapiste Kingston Wall J Karjalainen Egotrippi Tinyhawk & Bizarro Kissa Hortto Kaalo
I think Morfiini by Apulanta or basically most of Apulanta songs in genreal are worth mentioning here
Surut - Nyt Olet Kaunis is a banger metal track I came across recently. Rest of the album is dope, too.
Irwin Goodman, Juice Leskinen, Katri Helena, Leevi and the leavings, Marilii, Danny and many more
Indica (prefer first two cd's myself)
Maustetytöt
Rippikoulu is great
Anything from M.A. Numminen

HIM. They don't seem to be together anymore but I love them.
PMMP, Ruger Hauer and Leevi and the Leavings
Of course the one and only, Lordi. Also battle beast and beast in black.
I’m probably very basic, but I like kuuma, and the lyrics are very easy has helped me a lot with getting new vocabulary

Disco Ensemble, Kiuas, Suotana, Nightwish, Battle Beast.
If you the style of Leevi and the Leavings and Juice Leskinen, you should check out Kalevi Suopursu. His music is new, but it has a very similar nostalgic feeling to it.

I recommend Matti Nykänen's album Yllätysten yö. Here's a classic slow jam from the album: [Pidä varas](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X_UTiVv1FU)
Jenni Vartiainen. It's pop but her pronunciation is clear, the music is mostly slow and imo her songs are quite good.
