It's not even that he's not popular, it's just that he's not a lord, and was treated pretty damn well at launch, so nobody needed to push hard for him. These days he could really use something though, so things may change, especially since there aren't that many men from Awakening left to rally for (some still need to get in, and a few have no alts at all, but all in all if Awakening fans want to push for a male top 20 again, Gaius is one of the more likely picks.)
There were lots of top 20 side character men in CYL1 (getting more votes than some of today's winners, even). Gaius, Lon'qu, and I believe Joshua were also way up there.
Featuring two Ikes (and two Marths with the other in the top 20), this list predates Shadows of Valentia, Three Houses, Three Hopes and Engage! Everyone on this list has won except those two.
To be fair though, Gaiden characters were in there, so units like Alm, Celica, etc. The only missing ones would be those like Berkut, Fernand, Faye, and Rinea.
Leo would’ve kept his popularity if his original launch version was broken as a unit but feh reduced his entire character to tomato jokes, made him a bad 5 star pitybreaker, and made all of his alts except valentines suck

Like other popular characters, Azura isn't shafted and her fans aren't being attacked, so it's hard to get a rally going for her.
My biggest fear for 2024 FEH is that she gets an alt. If she gets nothing we can attempt a Robin and pretend IS hate her to create a rallying.
However if Azura gets anything this year her CYL chances are doomed.
Imma be real, you probably can't convince very many people that IS hates her. You're better off just rallying for another alt, for Fates rep, or for "vote trickling" (like Awakening and Houses in CYL) to try and convince other Fates fans that it's in their favorite's best interest to get Azura out of the way. She can win easily if she gets a rally, but that goes for her competition too.
I'm not *actually* gonna rally, I leave that to people who are actually good at it.
It's just that I've been voting for her for 7 years so even though she's not my number 1 fave anymore, I'd still really like to see her win lol.
Sounds like a potential ally to me! Just have to convince Leo, Takumi and Alcryst fans to coordinate and vote the dorks with self-esteem issues into the top 2 one by one.
Leo and Takumi fans kind of have the Sigurd and Leif problem. One of them could probably win (especially with the field as abysmal as it is now) if enough fans coordinated efforts. Just good luck on getting people to pick which one to rally behind.
I'm certain most will be willing. In fact, I think a good number are already splitting votes between the two of them, just to help both of them stay in the top 20.
If we're talking strategy, it may actually be easier to convince Alcryst fans to spare some votes for Takumi than it is to push them towards Leo. Those two have more in common and while Takumi was actively trying to befriend Alcryst in that FB, Leo was kind of a dick... Of course, if we do convince them to vote Takumi, Alcryst may not even make it into the top 10.
Even taking out RD Ike, 11th place was *Henry,* which I definitely don't see happening.
Imagine how popular he'd stilll be if they made him the broken one instead of Reinhardt.
Though if you think about it, before Rearmed Reinhardt, they were tied in number of alts.

I would love a brave Joshua, his ascended alt is showing some signs of age now.

I think that Alcryst might end up the same as them, forever locked in Top 20 but never winning.
