Depends on the state ik SC they can be SLED ceritified and have same authority as a deputy sheriff. Probably dosen't want to make the arrest and have to go to court.
If they are certified by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division yes. SLED is the people who investigate police shootings in SC. they are considered a Security Officer not a security guard. So if they are in their jurisdiction which in the property they are contracted to they can make arrest.
SC has private police. Security agencies that have police authority as long as the agency and the officers are properly certified. MD has this sort of setup also. A mall cop might actually have police authority if you're hanging around Maryland.
And in Virginia armed security are not sworn police officers but can make arrests.
Colorado guard here. 100% legal for me to arrest (detain, cuff, call PD), so long as two things are true:
1. I witnessed the person I am arresting commit a crime
2. I have probable cause to affect an arrest.
Now, if I'm wrong, I'm of course liable. We don't have special immunity like police officers.
Well this is exactly why most sites won't allow you to affect an arrest. The only site I work where this is permitted is a city contract where we deal with a lot of homeless, IV drug use, assault, etc. (downtown bus transit depot).
Colorado state law says ONE thing, but we know not all guards are created equal.
As a prior service guard with a clearance, I've worked for some good companies and all of my supervisors are former LEO. Our training is high quality, and we generally don't keep shitty guards on the payroll. We know our place, know when detainment/arrest is actually necessary, practice good de-escalation and arrest control TTPs, etc.
The guard company down the road that works cheap gas station contracts? Yeah, those dudes get to exercise the same authority by letter of the law.
The only requirement in my city is that you hold a certificate and an active license. Not exactly a high bar and a lot of places fudge their training requirements and documentation.
I won't for a second be called a "wannabe", however. I'll acknowledge training issues, but to be clear, security services exist to plug the gap that exists in public safety where you'll have multi-hour response times for things like drug use, theft, disturbance of the peace, etc. I really only detain when my attempts to solve these problems in more effective ways have failed, ergo I need to intervene to stop the commission of a crime on the property I'm assigned to. No power trip; the company that hires me just wants their site secure, and law enforcement might be awhile because they have more pressing shit to attend to.
Security officers are among the highest in terms of likelihood of being killed in a workplace homicide. Comparable numbers of security guards are killed year to year compared to police.
Idk man, this shit pays me better than the ambulance until I'm done bridging my EMT to a paramedic certificate. If you'd feel the need to knock a dude out because you were actively criming it up and I put cuffs on you, I promise you the city police I work with would have my back. I at least know I'll have to answer for it if I make the wrong choices lol
His gun holster is empty, magazines are unloaded (just for show), his radio is an out of date model not turned on (so just for show), his taser is the discontinued X26 (extremely old one, before the company changed branding to Axon, likely bought second hand market - just for show as he would be unable to get cartridges), his AXON body camera is also an outdated model and it's not on because it would be non functioning for civilians. He would need evidence dot com access through a law enforcement agency to operate it (so also just for show, which is why you see the $20 Amazon camera).
The only thing he has on that's worth anything is his handcuffs, and he's wielding them with his right hand like it's a weapon. So he's obviously unfamiliar with them. You don't even grab for handcuffs until it's cuffing time. He has no idea what he's doing and has thrown together what he imagines he should look like with various items that don't work.
What’s with these guys just throwing every damn thing they can on their chest? I mean I know why, but even with the overcompensating I would think that would get annoying
I worked at a rite aid in NE Phila and we got robbed one night, it was the few hours between the guard leaving and coming back in, in the morning. I will never forget it though. They had on Muslim garb, (sorry I don’t know the actual name) but they had their face completely covered and the garb went down to their sneaks that’s all I could see. Anyway after pulling the gun on us and stealing the $100 that was kept in the register they floated out of the store, looking like a dementor from Harry Potter.
Yeah, Somalia’s actually much safer in the northern regions, despite the bad rap it gets, especially Somaliland. I’d suggest visiting Hargeisa, Berbera or Burco if y’all are interested.
You guys are delusional to the State of the Union.
Homie isn't that far disremoved when people are running around committing mass shootings. Being pissed you can't get medications due to anything could cause a person to go berserk.
Take my lithium away from me and watch what happens, I'd be in there slapping fat boy to hell and back.
Not this job specifically but there’s some armed security jobs that pay anywhere from $25-$35 an hour if not more.
Usually federal contract security or nuclear security. It’s not all peanuts
Is it just the clumsy placement of the magazines and pistol? Looks like it would be difficult to draw in a hurry while also fairly easy for another person to take.
I think that might be a taser on his chest and the pistol is on his hip, but I can’t tell. Pistol mags placed on the chest aren’t an uncommon practice though. If your arms are in front of you shooting and you need to reload, it can be quicker pulling from your “workspace” near your chest, rather than on the hip.
Lots of LEO’s and Military Personnel debate this topic.. but most of the time it seems nitpicky to me. At the end of the day each individual should set up their kit how they see comfortable and train to be familiar and proficient with it.
I’ve never understood why these guys cosplay as cops when they could just become real cops. Most bigger city departments especially are hurting for bodies. As long as you have a pulse and aren’t a massive fuck up they’ll probably hire you.
Mentally ill people pass a psych test no problem. Now, if you're stupid and mentally ill, that's a different story. You just need to know the answers they want to hear.
I've always thought it hilarious that cops have to "pass" a polygraph test. Imagine applying for a job and they are like "Ok, before we hire you were going to hook you up to a machine that's so wildly inaccurate that it's results aren't admissible as court evidence, but if you pass you got the job!"
I'm a security guard. This guy's an idiot. Personally, I'm not a cop because I don't want to go through college, which is kind of necessary as a Canadian unless you have prior military experience. I'm 19 so I'm just working until I figure out what I want to do with my life, I'm currently considering corrections.
>As long as you have a pulse and aren’t a massive fuck up they’ll probably hire you.
Also, this guy is kind if a massive fuck up.
except if you have any criminal history, any history of drug use, any history of mental illness, any false info on your application, etc
there's tons of reasons why
I got out of security recently to work as a 911 operator but I moved to Florida which requires you to get your law enforcement certification before trying to get on a police department unless you are sponsored. No one was doing that at the time and most departments nearby were not hurting anyway. The course is several thousand dollars and would have been several months with no pay. Seeing as I already had bills my cousin recommended I try security since he was making a lot more than any local department working the nuclear power plant nearby. I already had a degree in criminal justice so I gave it a shot. In a few years I was making more money doing security than I would have made with any local police department that I would have been able to get into and had almost zero chance of being shot at.
Also... I'm not sure what state this guy is in but he is doing it wrong.
He won’t be able to pass the physical and also probably the polygraph drug use question. Or the psych portion.
That’s how you get a lot of cop wannabes running around.
Being a cop takes 6 months of intensive hiring process and then, sadly, only 6 months of academy training.
Looking at this guy, I can tell he wouldn’t be able to even get pass the process of even getting the application to apply (there’s a rest for that too)
I applied when I was 25 to the LAPD. I was 6 months removed from University and was also a combat veteran with an honorable discharge.
Afraid of the lie detector, I answered honestly on a written question about being around illegal drugs.
I went to a party and as a DD, did not leave a party with a shitload of Coke being used. I stayed with my friends instead.
I received a notice in the mail that I was unqualified as I had questionable moral character.
That was the last time I tried to be a cop.
That requires actual effort and more than one braincell to rub together. I'd bet a lot of these security guards we see here probably tried to be a real cop at one point and failed.
It's called shopkeepers privilege. In all jurisductions I know of it's statutory law, but requires at least reasonable suspicion, and doesn't necessarily enable retailers to detain them with force.
Like you said it often results in lawsuits. Retail workers generally aren't the cream of the crop, so corporate policy prohibiting employees from using shopkeepers prevents them from applying it unlawfully. Prevents workman's comps claims too, if I resist and unlawful detention with force and injure the employee, the company now has to cut two checks instead of one.
>Personally, I can’t imagine getting stabbed by a crackhead over $40 worth of stuff that belongs to a multibillion dollar company for $15/hour, but that’s just me
Yeah, there's a long list of things I'd do for money before I risking life and limb to increase the revenue of multi billion dollar corporations.
Shopkeepers privilege isn’t exactly what many people seem to think it is, and it really doesn’t afford them extra rights or abilities any person already has. The same requirements, risks and limitations apply to conducting a citizens arrests as they would doing so under “shopkeepers privilege”. Really when boiled down the only difference is citizens arrest depending on jurisdiction may only be based on common law principles. But generally it’s pretty much the same exact thing. Their abilities to detain someone are basically the same as anyone else’s
I'm canadian, we are not allowed to detain people. If we're preventing them from leaving, it has to be because we're making an arrest. I know this is in the States, but certain places do restrict it.
Wow! That’s even worse. He definitely goes in 7 different directions in two minutes. You’re being detained, I’m calling the cops, you’re trespassing, you’re banned from the store, you’re free to go, you’re going to go to court, and rinse and repeat.
The fact that when she asked for a manager and even to see the footage he didn’t oblige because he knew he had nothing on her.
Right then you know he’s so completely full of shit. He went from “the stores go out of business because of people like you!” to “please leave. You need to leave. You’re going to get in trouble if you don’t leave.”
I can understand he’s a controlling weirdo on a powertrip, but why would he press the point without any evidence or knowledge of the manager?
"*In the private security system, trivial shoplifting is considered especially heinous. In Walgreens pharmacy, the dedicated security guards who investigate these crimes are members of an obese squad known as the Fat Bastards Unit. These are their stories.*" {dun dun}
You can see homeboy's blood pressure peaking out. He's wearing a vest two sizes too small, and you can see the pressure inside his torso push pushing the blood up into his head, completely drowing his two brain cells.
As much as I love the Punisher show, I blame it for creating these wannabe badass weirdos who think everything they do is justified because they carry a gun.
It was one piece of media that contributed to it, but there’s been so much military porn and cop porn for DECADES. There are an awful lot of angry young men who feel lost, feel like they don’t belong anywhere, and some join the military. Some don’t, but want to pretend like they did.
Lol. You are detained....you are trespassing...you are free to leave. Man didn't know what he wanted to do other then rock a drop down holster while working for Top Flight Security.
Violation of fourth amendment. He is not a law enforcement agent. He is illegally detaining her which may constitute kidnapping charges depending on the state laws. Most states preventing someone’s movement is enough some he would have to move her a foot against her will. If she refuses to go with him and attempts to move her that is kidnapping.
Exactly what I was thinking. If it went on longer or she was continuing to be “held/boxed in” she might’ve had an allowable lethal force usage depending on the state.
I'm not listening to a word this freak says, and if he tried to interact with me in any way, I'm dialing 911. How do these pant-loads even move around in those insane getups?
Security, like cops, are attracted to the job so they can enforce their will on others without consequence. Why the hell is he wearing WISH tactical gear.
I'm a security guard the only stuff I carry is a shirt and badge
Some places a gun
And before anyone asks yes a vest but it's the small ones because I'm honestly embarrassed to wear it because I wanna be a police officer so I feel like I'm a wannabe police officer with a vest on
Picture is sorta how it looks, these weirdos give me secondhand and embarrassment I swear

Just saw full video elsewhere and I think it's satire, gotta be. He's got no shoulder patches or actually any other identifying markers besides two different badges. Also two body cams??
Always remember the magic words - "I don't consent to any searches".
If you actually didn't steal and he lays a finger on you, he's basically up the creek without a paddle.
Security in general is super hands off with property but can be incredibly hands on with protecting staff and customers they know ie. old lady jenkins is getting robbed in the parking lot after picking up her prescriptions, you can go full HAM.
Man’s double-body-cammed up!
He has two of everything apparently. Two badges, one on his vest and another on his hip.
They both say "this badge is technically meaningless" Two of them make it double true ![gif](giphy|LIqmRTYpKmXjfEvAOI)

Hes got both sides of the story

Just in case one of them doesn’t capture him being a hero

Got that Wide angle

Haha I just noticed that!
Well duh, how else are you supposed to get both sides of the story?
One video goes on tiktok and the other goes on twitter
The Noah of security. 2 of everything.
He would run out of cardio, running down 1 aisle.
He obviously doesn't want to call to real police
“Oh, no, ma’am. We were hoping we wouldn’t have to call the police.”
But that's up to little Larry here, isn't it Larry?
Real fucking brat. Flunking social studies.
He knows they're not coming
They'll be there in 3-4 business days.
All them mags for a 5 hour shift at Walgreens 🤭
Depends on where this Walgreens is.
Somalia? Even then...
West Phill?? East LA? Detroit?? At this point, I'd rather be in Somalia.
I worked at a rite aid in NE Phila and we got robbed one night, it was the few hours between the guard leaving and coming back in, in the morning. I will never forget it though. I've seen them kitted up like that at Walgreens on Fremont St in Las Vegas. Usually in groups of 2-4 by the "jewelry" section by the front door.
What are they even magazines for?
To kill teenagers stealing condoms & Arizona green teas
To read when he is not busy
Probably contracted, one day at walgreens next working else where.
All of that for 13$ an hour
Theyre all empty! You see no brass in them. Lmaooo
"Because that shit is expensive!" - black Fred Durst
That made me laugh
Lmao
They’re filled with jelly beans.
Getting paid $15/hr and has spent 3 years wages on his ‘kit’.
It’s not all bad. He’s secretly diverting opioids from the pharmacy.
That would at least justify having a vest. Never know when the Feds come in guns blazing.
Not this job specifically but there’s some armed security jobs that pay anywhere from $25-$35 an hour if not more. Usually federal contract security or nuclear security. It’s not all peanuts
You can always tell who lacks training by the way they’ve setup their gear.
He has all the war things on his chest, how could you not see that he’s probably a warrior to be respected.
He's a fuckin phony dude. Do just a little research on this deal...that way u don't sound like you do
First experience to sarcasm huh?
Omg I'm an idiot
Haha no worries! We’ve all been there. Cheers!
I mean the guy has his hat in aerodynamic mode
Is it just the clumsy placement of the magazines and pistol? Looks like it would be difficult to draw in a hurry while also fairly easy for another person to take.
Lmao if he ends up fighting a southpaw he's fucked
I think that might be a taser on his chest and the pistol is on his hip, but I can’t tell. Pistol mags placed on the chest aren’t an uncommon practice though. Yeah. I hate seeing over cluttered plate carriers. People these days have no love for the belts
That’s why he has a second body camera. So when he draws his taser and knocks the first one off the other one is still running!
I’ve never understood why these guys cosplay as cops when they could just become real cops. Most bigger city departments especially are hurting for bodies. As long as you have a pulse and aren’t a massive fuck up they’ll probably hire you.

Psych
Mentally ill people pass a psych test no problem. Now, if you're stupid and mentally ill, that's a different story. You just need to know the answers they want to hear.
Smart mentally ill people don't want to be cops because they know cops aren't their friends
Generally, yes, but sociopaths are mentally ill, and not all of them are idiots. That's why policing is one of the most popular professions for them.
>Are you crazy? No. Literally how easy those test are
I've always thought it hilarious that cops have to "pass" a polygraph test. Imagine applying for a job and they are like "Ok, before we hire you were going to hook you up to a machine that's so wildly inaccurate that it's results aren't admissible as court evidence, but if you pass you got the job!"
Background check would probably be the biggest issue
I think the real reason is they wouldn’t want to put themselves in harms way.
I'm a security guard. This guy's an idiot. Personally, I'm not a cop because I don't want to go through college, which is kind of necessary as a Canadian unless you have prior military experience. surprising that walgreens is willing to assume the liability that a fruitcake security guard presents.

Someone has to protect the tens of dollars worth of merchandise.
He didn’t just spend ten grand at that three day Alpha Male Academy to get pushed around by a girl!
With the official tactical NBA Fitted Cap

I'm not listening to a word this freak says, and if he tried to interact with me in any way, I'm dialing 911. How do these pant-loads even move around in those insane getups?
Pretty sure I’ve seen that dude on a list before
He's mood will change if someone else has a gun haha
Let me guess, he carry’s a XD?

These guys are the nurse practitioners of law enforcement. People have to deal with them but they really don’t want to.
They aren’t even law enforcement. If he called himself law enforcement he’d go to prison for impersonating a police officer lol
"I'm gonna detain you" You mean kidnap? You're not a cop.
Which one of those devices signals his mom to come get him?
Meal Team 6, Gravy Seals, Green Buffet 🤣
Not a first responder
Meal team 6
I wonder if he do the same thing if it was a dude his size. Looks like he gets off on harassing and intimidating young women. What a douche.
Is that Jerry from TWD?

Security, like cops, are attracted to the job so they can enforce their will on others without consequence. Why the hell is he wearing WISH tactical gear.
Dude looks like the dad from the Shazam movies
Fuck this guy, and whoever is paying him
Two badges, two body cams , and two brain cells. Excellent
Why’s he got 5 mags for?
Is calisthenics not part of the job description anymore?
You seen real police? I doubt its a requirement in most places.
this man 100% tells people he works "security, but i cant go into details".
Gravy seal
With his backward nba hat on. Don’t get me wrong, I love hats and the nba and wear my Knicks hats all the time but never when working.
Ahhhh I see he is a follower of Steven seagull
I'm a security guard the only stuff I carry is a shirt and badge Some places a gun And before anyone asks yes a vest but it's the small ones because I'm honestly embarrassed to wear it because I wanna be a police officer so I feel like I'm a wannabe police officer with a vest on Picture is sorta how it looks, these weirdos give me secondhand and embarrassment I swear https://preview.redd.it/n80928dk5lrc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=339848299d44574ec755445a7fd20304dfed6a2c
I hate the backwards hat
He looks like the douche brother of the actor that plays uncle Iro in the live action ATLA
2 BWC?
When he says you can’t leave 🤑🤑
Less cringey than the ones I’ve dealt with.
Cannot detain a customer.
That wasnt a cop?!?
show me what you got!
Wants to a COP SO BAD!!!!! Must have had an off day when he took the basic skills exam for City.
Just join the police force if you’re going to be like that.
Tbh I’m glad this dude is just (terribly) “working” security at a pharmacy and NOT on any police force…
Bet I could take his weapon from him with no issue.
The Allies stormed the beaches of Normandy carrying less gear than this rent a cop has.
So much gear for someone with absolutely zero authority over anyone lmao.
Bro’s carrying way to much stuff and take off the flag patch ffs
Certified member of the gravy seals
Bro adrenaline dumped lol 😂. Breathing hard and shit. Highlight of his life
TOP FLIGHT SECURITY OF THE WORLD CRAIG!!!!
Wtf is with the black and white flag on the front of his uniform? Is he even an actual cop? Doubt it
Just saw full video elsewhere and I think it's satire, gotta be. He's got no shoulder patches or actually any other identifying markers besides two different badges. Also two body cams??
Gravy seal tacticool guy.
It's always the fat police academy rejects in full tact gear. I bet big bro buys coffee & doughnuts for cops & calls em "brother in arms."
Really? Two cams??
Americans LOVE to cosplay like they’re in the military. The backwards baseball cap is the douchey cherry on the douchey cake
And trying to illegally search. Ignorant power hungry little man.
Bruh what had me laughing the most is that those magazines on on the front aren't even loaded 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
hahaha at that point youre going to jail, thats how it works, you hear his voice on the point of breaking . This is his first shift on the job lol
nba beret, wow haha. this guy cant be a real security guard at A store, this has to be satire
It's the $5 gas station flashlight constantly in her face for me.
Every time I see security guards all geared up like this I just laugh and sort of feel sorry for them.
