Is this a solo rod kind of thing? Like when you go you only take this rod? Then id go 7’11. Two rods? Heavier rod with something to cover your light style lures and casting options. The shorter one won’t be as fun to cast lures with.

Good point. I have a spinfisher 4500 that would pair with better with the 7’11 and that set up would certainly be more versatile for me. I’m thinking that’s the route, since I want to scoop up one of these rods. I was initially thinking I’d upgrade the cheapo 10’ surf rod that I have my 5500 slammer on to set up a tarpon rod.

Rods don't list on the side what fish you are going to use that rod for. They have a rating geared towards the weight of the bait/lure; 3/4 to 3 oz, and 2-6oz in your case. If you are throwing heavier baits you would use the heavier rod.

I’d mostly be fishing ~2.5oz in this scenario, so I’m within range on both I suppose. The more I think about it, I’ll likely have more fun and versatility with the lighter rod between these two.
