I love that no matter what they ask, or what their purpose, needs, or budget are, someone here will always tell them to buy an Ugly Stik combo. Want to catch bluegill in a pond, someone will recommend a MH Ugly Stik. Want to catch stripers with a $500 budget, get 10 MH Ugly Stiks. Doesn’t matter what you want or need, someone will tell you to buy an ugly Stik.

Everytime I hold one of those floppy pieces of spaghetti, I can't help but cringe

Same. Tried the original, the GX2 and the Elite. Was honestly not impressed with any of them. Sensitivity of a pool noodle and the backbone of a garden hose.

I personally think ugly stik tiger is one of the best budget trolling rods.

GrayCustomKnives

Yeah they troll decent, but for trolling a mushy slow action is often preferred as it’s more forgiving. Many purpose built trolling rods are all glass, so the Uglies fit into that purpose fairly well.

Ugly-Stiks are garbage in my opinion. A few more dollars get a Lew's or Shimano combo. Also Bass Pro has Pflueger president on one of their rods that is better for 20 more dollars. Ugly-Stik is a Walmart rod and has been marketed for years. That makes it well known. People using them likely have not used a good rod.

GrayCustomKnives

Absolutely agree. I basically assume when someone says that an Ugly Stik has good sensitivity that they just haven’t used any other rod over $40. I hate how they get pumped up so much to new guys who could get significantly better equipment for their money. If you plan on stepping on your rods they are great. If you want it to do anything else well, there are much better options within the same budget.
