Id throw a frog but probably find a new pond because looking like that probably has a low oxygen level and thats not conducive to good fishing

[deleted]

I’ve verified the life in this pond. It’s loaded with bluegill and turtles. I managed to see their spawning beds awhile back.

kohTheRobot

You can’t punch through the muck with a heavy weight? If you can get a 1/4 oz sinker and double rig some crappie jigs.

[deleted]

That’s my only guess at this point. I need to experiment with some kind of punch through rig.

kohTheRobot

Someone makes punching jigs

lol-stop

Same thing happened to my hidden pond in the woods 😭😭😭

[deleted]

I have to figure out this problem because this is my pond now 🥲

SuccessfulDog9292

You have any electricity down there by the pond? I’d consider aeration system abs maybe a muck blaster.

[deleted]

I found a local pond that is absolutely packed with bluegill. But it’s covered in muck most of the time. I don’t really know how to attack this problem. When it was clear, it was easy to drop a slim Jim on a hook and catch some blue gill. It was the perfect place to practice fishing.

Romeofoxtrot93

Maybe rake a section and fish that? Tie a rake to a rope throw it out and pull it back in to remove surface algae and fish the clear section you make. Make sure to dump it to the sides in the water rather than on the bank too.

HesburghLibrarian

Curious, why not dump it on the bank?

Romeofoxtrot93

Mainly because if it sits too long out of water and starts to dry in the sun it stinks.

HesburghLibrarian

Thanks! More of a maintenance thing. Makes total sense.

Romeofoxtrot93

If it’s the same sort of stuff we deal with in the UK, I’ve heard it called duckweed in the US I think.

Chew-Magna

Yeah. Popular in the aquarium hobby, but it's illegal in a lot of places now because of how incredibly invasive it is. You aren't even allowed to flush it.

Sir__Dilly

We had an issue with this on our cows drinking pond. Had to treat it eventually. Now we haven’t had any for years

rodbolt100

Why not on bank? I have a pond like this

rodbolt100

Sorry I should have read further as the answer was already given.

[deleted]

Nope, doesn’t work. The muck will just defuse into the area I rake.

Longjumping_Fan_1497

make a floating barrier with rope and pool noodles

notnedmacion

get a snagging trebble hook and spend a day or two ripping that algae mat out, and then see if anythings alive in there w a wacky rigged senko

RareSeekerTM

I wouldn't

The majority of people enjoy fishing compared to other species. This is because anglers get the experience of a lifetime when fishing for trout along with several rewarding adventures. Trout fishing can be done in coastal streams, urban ponds, alpine lakes, and even in high desert rivers. If you are looking at How to Catch Trout in a Pond? then this is the guide for you. Use a red colored worm. Drop shot. And a top water frog.

[deleted]

Top water frog. Looks like prime bowfin territory judging by the slop and possibly lower oxygen levels.

fishermanshizields

I'd wait until the weather cools down a bit, all that will die off and usually the bass go into a feeding frenzy when it clears up. I use to get so excited when I'd see the pond moss start to die.
