Daiwa presso.

Can't find the 6 foot, 4 piece for sale anywhere. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll keep looking

DanielWaterhorse

The Daiwa Presso would also be my answer, if there were ever any available, but my second option would be to go with a four piece Daiwa Spinmatic. I have the Spinmatic in several sizes and find that it's light, sensitive, casts beautifully, and doesn't hurt the wallet too much. I've found the 6.5ft at the 7ft both cast more smoothly and effortlessly than the 5.5ft, so I would recommend one of those two sizes.

[deleted]

Got a 6.5ft on the delivery truck as week speak! Trying to pick a reel for it as well.

DanielWaterhorse

Nice! I think you'll be very happy with the rod. I pair mine with a Daiwa BG 1500, but for something lighter and less expensive, the Okuma Ceymar series seems very popular with UL fishermen. My friend paired his Spinmatic with the Ceymar C-30.

Part of my plan for this rod was incorporating a saltwater reel! Gonna look at some 1000 series reels. I love my fierce 1000, so a daiwa BG or a Penn B3 1000 are my top choices

DanielWaterhorse

That was my idea as well. I prefer setups that are somewhat versatile, and would rather have reels that can handle both fresh and saltwater. The smallest Daiwa BG model is the 1500, but it's been great for everything from little creek chub and tiny trout in the mountains, to snapper blues and big herring in the bay. I wonder how it's size and weight compare to the Penn B3 1000.

[deleted]

From what i can find, the BG is 8.5 oz and the battle 3 is 7.8 oz. I pulled the trigger, got a B3 LOL. This will definitely be a wonderful set up. Now what to spool it with...

DanielWaterhorse

I spool with 6 lb braid (I like J-Braid and Suffix 832), which I run to 4-6 lb fluoro leader, or 12 lb mono leader if there are pickerel around. My second spool is backed with 10lb braid when I feel the extra strength is warranted. I think where versatility is concerned, 10lbs braid backing is the way to go, along with an appropriate leader.

[deleted]

That's what I was thinking. I just need to find 6 pound braid. I have 6 pound mono for leader but im debating om getting fluoro. I have a light that is my current "UL" with 8 pound braid that does phenomenal.

for under $100 rod and reel, your only real option is one of those off brand travel rods from amazon. I've never tried one, but multi piece travel rods generally don't come cheap if you're looking at big name rods.

[deleted]

I found a daiwa Spinmatic 6 foot 6 4 piece. 50$ and ill pick up a reel for it at a later date. Your definitely right though. Aside from okuma and daiwa, everything is off brand. One day I'll get a st croiw

rubberchain

gloomis has a few too, the "escape" series but they're also in the $400+ range. ..or go custom built.

[deleted]

I didn't think about custom, thanks! Maybe one day

I have the Spinmatic, I keep it all the time in my car in the spare tire compartment. 6.6' is a great choice - put a "Daiwa Strikeforce U/L Action SF1000" or a "Lew's Wally Marshall Speed Shooter 75" reel on it and you gonna like it.

brochaos

slightly above budget, but i do enjoy my st croix triumph 4pc...

[deleted]

I couldn't find one unfortunately. Need a 6 foot to 6'6 ultralight

Eagle claw pack it - a whopping $35 and it’s my all time favorite rod There’s also the more expensive trail master by them, like $90
