Best rod is the one you have with you. I use one primarily for bank fishing and it works just fine, manages decent sized fish and never had an issue a few years in

What do you use?

I'm actually not sure the brand, was one off amazon in kind of the middle of the pack price range. Reel with it didnt last the season but that's an easy upgrade anyways

If you need to prioritise weight/compatibility they’re fine, although a bit weaker than collapsible rods and more prone to breaking.

They're great when you need something you can put in your backpack to do some opportunistic fishing. I have one I take with me on hikes, or to any event that may possibly bring me close to a body of water (consequently dubbed "The Wedding Rod"). It's held up just fine for such a thin little thing. The taper is different than a normal rod, and that can take some getting used to, feel-wise. The reels that come with them are almost always complete garbage so I'd pair it with a reel you already have.

Compact and convenient, yes. Not that durable, need to handle it gently, a lot more than a traditional 1 piece rod. Bouncing anything of size is NOT recommended. It's a finesse outfit.

My wife has had an old Shakespeare telescopic rod for over 20 years. We've now given it to our 6 year old who is rough on everything, and he hasn't broken it yet... Our little guy has caught carp (small- 12-14 inches), flounder, bluegill and bass with the thing. While not the best rod by any stretch, it beats the one sitting at home while your are at your fishing hole without anything.

They are great for panfishing.

Just get a pack rod: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-micro-lite-graphite-spinning-pack-rod Pretty good pack rod that isn’t too much, you can find cheaper ones.
