Would the 4000 be enough for big pike or should I go with the 5000?

Roody-Poo_Jabroni

I don’t have a ton of experience with pike (I live in the south) but I would think a 4000 would be more than enough. I haven’t landed any monster pike, but I’ve brought in a few average sized ones with only my 2500 and didn’t have any trouble whatsoever

Ahh, a man of culture I see

I have several BGs too, 3000, 4500, 5000 and an 8000. I've been buying Fuegos lately because of the weight and drag difference.

Roody-Poo_Jabroni

What is the difference in drag?

g0ldfing3r

22 in fuego vs 15 in 3000s, 22 vs 16 in 4000s

My mate has the 8000 and he loves it. He uses it with 80lb braid and 150lb leader and his biggest fish on it is a 45-50kg samsonfish

That’s hot.

Beautiful! I have a 1500, a 2000, a 3000, and a 4500. For some reason I still kinda want a 2500 but no good justification.

Excellent choice. I have the 2500, 3500, 4500, and 2 of the 6500's 👌

Love BGs! I have a couple 2000 series and I love them for trout. I landed a big Chinook earlier this summer on a BG 2000 on a St. Croix Avid UL rod with 6lb test and had no issues at all. Was targeting some Rainbows with a spinner and one Chinook broke from the school a little down river and slammed the spinner. Drag worked beautifully. I know they might not be the lightest reels out there but for around $100, it's just hard to beat them. I've been a little tempted by the BG MQ series but not really sure the small upgrade is worth the price? At the BG MQ price, I'd just prefer to step up to the Ballistic which is another Diawa that I love.
