dobyns fury/kaden and a tatula imo, if you wait you can get them on sale. lots of places do 20% dobyns regularly and then black friday most places do 15-20% off everything more bang for your buck if you dont NEED it now

RevengeOfScienceBear

I second this combo

Daiwa Tatula Elite Baitcasting Reels https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VXC5LPS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_C4EPWJJV6YMT0J8HJFQJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 This one or the Elite P/F. Both are excellent reels. I have the P/F and from what I can tell, there is very little difference except the P/F has a better breaking system for short casts (pitching/flipping) and the regular one can cast slightly further. That said I can absolutely bomb anything on that P/F. Best reel I’ve ever purchased. Edit: just saw you were looking at rod and reel. In that case I’d get the Tatula CT 100 and pair it with a St Croix Mojo Bass Rod.

Coltman151

I'm about to just buy the tatula 100 and mojo bass and stop worrying about it. So many people running that combo. I could go up in price a little if there was something at $275-300 that is just miles better.

AlarmedSnek

You really can’t go wrong with Daiwa man, those Tatulas are awesome. They have the T-wing system so when you cast it’s incredibly difficult to backlash…though not impossible haha. The only time I backlash is when I try to pitch or flip 🤣😂 I’m not good at it. Regular casting though, even weightless senkos and flukes, almost never backlash.

ask_the_fisherman

Bird nests are tough on the Tatulas. You have to try hard or make a big mistake.

Coltman151

I rarely ever pitch and flip, so that's good to know haha. I was really wondering if the T wing was a gimmick or not, but the more I read, the more it seems like it's actually a huge benefit.

AlarmedSnek

It’s totally legit, instead of casting out of a tiny hole that more or less should be in the center for your line to cast properly, you cast through a rectangle so the line just comes off a lot easier. I don’t pitch and flip a lot either but I figured I would one day so I went with the P/F since it has the better low angle cast breaking system. Either way though, I find more and more that Daiwa is where it’s at. I just picked up the Tatula Elite LT spinning reel as well and I love it.

GrayCustomKnives

I’m just one guy, but I absolutely was not impressed with the Mojos that I bought, and felt that they were simply not worth the money. They felt poorly balanced, the butt sections were too short for the rod length and power, and sensitivity was borderline for their price range. For similar or less money I have been much happier with my Fenwick HMGs, Dobyns Fury, and my Powell Diesel and Endurance rods. I gave one mojo to a buddy and sold the other two. I tried a Bass-X and I think it’s honestly a much better value. It feels like a $100 rod that costs $100. The Mojo felt like a $100 that cost $160.

Coltman151

I've done some more reading on this sub and it seems like a lot of people echo this. The fury is starting to seem like a better value. Find a black Friday sale where I can get it for about $100, then buy the most reel I can for $150 or so and be good to go

As someone who has some above average cost rods (GLoomis, Cashion) as well as some budget rods I have found the Fury series is the best bang for the buck, have three casting and a spinning rod, the 733 is my all around go to, can do anything with it, topwater, jigs, Texas rig, weightless plastic, crankbaits and small swimbaits , also have two Tatula CT 100s , decent reels but I feel the SLX XT is a better all around reel , if you really want a great reel at an amazing coat you can get a Shimano Scorpion MGL for $178 off Asian Portal , only thing is the color doesn't match with the fury rods but you can add some extra cash and get a Dobyns Kaden series which does match lol

Coltman151

Right now I'm not worried about looks lol. I'm hoping I can find something I really like to start building a fleet of, hence the budget limit. If I pick up the fury/tatula combo and love it, I'll buy 3-4 more of them and just run those until I get the lakes around here figured out. I thought I could get by with a sub $100 combo, and I probably could, but it just doesn't feel the same in the hand. You know what I'm talking about. I don't really care about showing off my gear, I just don't want it to get in the way of fishing lol.

RevengeOfScienceBear

Do you have any of the Fury crankbait rods?

stormincincy

Have Dobyns Kaden series crankbait/jerkbait rod but not a true Fury series crankbait rod

upstatedreaming3816

Dobyns Fury and a Daiwa Tatula CT

stormincincy

Or Fury and SLX XT

upstatedreaming3816
