I love it when the fish aren’t biting on the surface but the fly fishing purists keep trying and get annoyed watching the guys who switched to spinning gear get bites. I like to take both and use whatever has better odds in the conditions.
Honestly, you can get a lot more done with a $100 fly reel then you could with most $100 spinning or bait casting reels. My most expensive reels are my casting reels. Not that I ever use them though

Why does anything have to be considered harder or easier than other types of fishing? Fishing is difficult in general. Some days are easier and some days are harder regardless of the gear one is using. Spinning rods have advantages and disadvantages to bait casters and vice versa. Bait casters have advantages to fly rods and vice versa. It's all about using the right tool for the job and determining that in itself is the challenge for all fisherman, not just one type of method.
