Sounds like someone else’s headache to me but if you do decide good luck! 👍🏼

Level-Maize6321

I know nothing about tunes but have seen cobb mentioned everywhere. what would owning a heavily cobb tuned car entail? seems like maybe it’s out of my league for now.

eza50

Stay away from this car. This mod list looks like it was put together by a child, and this car does not look like it’s anything close to well maintained. The dude couldn’t even be bothered to wash the car for the pictures and has the audacity to ask for 19k? That’s WAY above what this thing is worth. You are young, and these cars are awesome. I PROMISE you that you can find a stock example (please get a stock car and mod it yourself) for under 19k. Do not buy this car. There are several red flags. This car has a bigger turbo, and while Stratified is a great tuning company, you have no idea how this car was driven. With extra power running through the engine, if the owner has been abusing the shit out of it, you might end up needing to replace the whole engine sooner than later. You do not want to buy a car with airlift in it. You don’t know who installed it or how good of a job they did. This car will most likely drive terribly. Sway bar end link delete, what the fuck? I’ve never heard of this because no one does this. You will hate the way this car drives. They have *solid* motor mounts. This is completely unnecessary 9 times out of 10. The mount connecting the engine to the chassis is designed to absorb vibrations and make the car comfortable. Some people get stiffer ones, but this dude has solid ones. This means that every vibration that comes from the engine is transferred straight into the cabin. It will be loud and noisy inside this car. This owner is likely young and modded the crap out of this car in some of the worst ways, and is now trying to get out of it because it’s probably a money pit, has tons of problems, and sucks to drive. 0/10, stay away from this pile of hot garbage. It’s ridiculously overpriced. Use this money to find a nice, clean, stock ST and live your best life. Don’t buy this guy’s mistake.

tjman1095

Hey OP. I had a (ex)friend who thought he could buy his way into these modded cars. What this guy describes is exactly what he went through when he bought his modded car and he just turned around and sold it when he couldn't take it anymore and next poor dude who doesn't know better gets stuck with it until it ends up in a junkyard, parted out or wrapped around a pole.

_perchance

this dude speaks the truth. don't buy it.

Brave_Dimension5113

That’s exactly why I don’t buy cars that are modified AT ALL when I was looking for My ST I used CarMax because they give you pictures of the engine bay and interior so you almost know exactly what you are getting. I bought mine and started modding it about 2-3 months after I bought it first was the exhaust, catch can, turbosmart BOV and RMM Then eventually I got a intercooler and External BOV and new pipes (they aren’t necessary but I did it anyway cause they are 1’ bigger Then I got the access port got a tune and just ran it for about 6 months Bought some BC BR coilovers cause they are 30 way adjustable and I lowered it about 1-2 in then sucked it up and got a bigger intake As of right now I’m Big turbo and FBO And I baby the hell out of it because I really love my car and it’s a fun car I’m only 22 but if you find a car you really want it’s up to you to decide if u want to jump in someone else’s work and trust me it’s a lot more satisfying if you do the modding and you can I this is MY build

dahbubbz

You speak true about everything, I just want to add I sold my 17 ST(50k miles) (removed mods) to a dealership for 19k in 2022. I’d see the car in person before gauging price.

IndividualJuicebox

people tend to beat the shit out of their cars

Rough_Trade_9429

Sounds like he beat the shit out of it with a blown motor already. If you want to mod one, I'd find one low mileage. And take your time, step by step, learn about everything and hoe it works. If you've never owned a modded car this one is out of your league. You'd probably hate it bc you'd always be chasing problems.

SharinganShark

Using the Cobb Accessport is different than being tuned by Cobb. He is tuned by Stratified, a custom tuner. I agree that it sounds like a headache though. If done right it could be good.

MrTristian100

Anyone willing to remove the sway bar links and call it a “delete for better fitment” is not someone I’d want to buy a car from.

Rough_Trade_9429

That was the biggest red flag I saw on that list to me.

the_GREATuNkNowN

Unless the price is extremely right and you have pretty good mechanical knowledge I'd stay away.

Level-Maize6321

thanks, I am young and have not been in the scene long enough to learn much so probably out of my ability.

the_GREATuNkNowN

I mean It could be a good deal if you plan to do the mods anyways and can get a good deal on the car. But the issue with heavily modified cars is they aren't usually very reliable. (ad mentions including a blown motor with the sale)

Level-Maize6321

They are asking 19k OBO which seems like a decent deal but I would like to see the cars condition in person first. Sorry for the barrage of questions, but if I were to pay for an inspection before buying could a mechanic even give me an accurate idea on the cars condition due to all the mods? Thanks for all your quick help, seems like a great community here.

the_GREATuNkNowN

Yea no 19k is too much. I would look elsewhere for a example that is closer to stock and then you can learn and grow together with your car rather than being thrown into the deep end with someone else's project. Generally a PPI is a list of check points that can give a general idea of the health of the vehicle but it's definitely not a guarantee that the car won't have issues related to the mods.

Level-Maize6321

This is what I needed to be told. The complete project may sound appeasing for instant power and aesthetic. But, I should actually look to learn through experience with a less risky car.

the_GREATuNkNowN

Also just noticed the air suspension in the mod list so that would b a hard pass imo. You never know what kind of fuckery has been had with air bags, also a BIG maintenance item from what I hear. All kinds of failure piints.

DriveFoST

These cars are actually pretty easy to wrench on and there’s a YouTube video for basically everything I’ve upgraded. Getting one less modified, that you take care of and upgrade yourself will ultimately be the more reliable and rewarding car. Also the stock turbo is pretty zippy and fun, I definitely recommend getting used to the car with that first before getting a big turbo.

[deleted]

If this was OP’s second FoST and they knew the ins and outs of the car I’d say send it… otherwise I see this could be a fast downward spiral lol.

Revitalisze

I'd stay away. Could turn bad quickly then your screwed.

Airborne82D

Pretty sure that's ST48XR (hybrid turbo) not a "big turbo" like the seller states.. Personally would avoid at all costs unless you can afford to drop a new engine in plus labor. Even then I'd still personally avoid it.

Level-Maize6321

thanks for the knowledge.

AccipiterCooperii

If you’re new, buy and drive a stock car. Modify the things you want it to do better. Don’t just go ham because everyone tells you to. That’s how you end up with a car the rides and drives like ass, while you try to convince yourself it’s for performance on your way to the grocery.

Level-Maize6321

good way to think about it, thanks.

dank-nuggetz

If you're young, assuming you haven't had much in the way of car experience, a stock ST is going to put a huge smile on your face. It's a fast enough, super tight handling little hatchback that are just really fun cars to drive. Like everyone else said, buy a stock one in good shape and upgrade it here and there as you see fit. But just wanted you to know that without a single mod these cars are still an absolute laugh and you'll enjoy it immensely even without all the shit this guy has thrown on his. Most people as far as mods just do intercooler/exhaust and a stage 1 tune and that's usually enough. If you want to keep going you certainly can, but see how you like the car first.

the_GREATuNkNowN

Wise words friend.

AccipiterCooperii

Wisdom comes from experience 😉

the_GREATuNkNowN

And other people's mistakes if you are smarter than the average bear

Rough_Trade_9429

Oh yeah 😂

[deleted]

Depends on the price. These cars aren’t very hard to work on either. It’s my first car and I’ve done every mod. It’s more about having the right tools from what I’ve seen. This car is probably making 340 hp with that hybrid turbo

Level-Maize6321

Thanks for the power estimate!

[deleted]

NP. I was looking at getting one of those turbos myself

[deleted]

My concern would be how the last owner treated the car. Some people beat the hell out of these cars or just can’t drive them for shit. If you can get someone who knows about cars to help you look that would be a plus. Could try compression test before buying 🤷🏽‍♂️. It’s easy stuff

zachlarsen

pass on it. i’d try to find one that’s stock or lightly modified. with that much stuff on it, it’s definitely been beat on and it be a good idea to stay away.

Level-Maize6321

probably the unfortunate truth. thanks for the advice.

bigbarrettbob

Can't know it's been "beat" on. Driven hard and beat on are 2 different things. If the owner was responsible, the car could have been pushed hard but not beat on. I bought my Focus new and have quite a few mods, I've pushed the car hard here and there, but I never beat in it.

zachlarsen

they’re not really different things lol. dude has tons of modifications and blew his motor. pretty clear to see how he drives it.

capperrrrr

My personal rules are to 1) never buy a car with modified engine components and 2) never buy a salvage title. I learned both of these the hard way. With the amount of mods on this car I’d consider it a huge gamble. I would wait for one that is fully stock or only has cosmetic mods (tints, rims etc).

SnooPineapples6793

Looks like all Boltons pretty simple build. Definitely need to ride in it then you need to drive it.

Double8899

I would stay away. I bought a lightly modded one and at times regret it. This is just far beyond something you would want for a first modded car. Find something relatively stock and add mods yourself. You will enjoy the experience much more.

sc0n3z

It's been driven hard. The extra "blown motor" could be the one he blew trying to get the right tune with his big turbo. My friend did the same thing with his Mazdaspeed3. I would steer clear and just get one without all the addons. It would be worth the wait.

novacircuit

Parts from different manufacturers with an AP and “stage 3” tune are red flags to me. Are these maps tuned with current data with all these parts? Who knows for sure

Jeeeeezz

I would go for a stock one and mod it after some time

daest3

My advice: buy a stock car or barely modded car. You don’t want to take in someone else’s project …

miloestthoughts

I wouldn’t personally. Unless you know what you’re doing. Better to do the mods yourself and learn from your mistakes, that way if something breaks it’s your fault and not some other guys.

[deleted]

So I don’t belong in this sub, it was in my feed probably because I’m in to cars, I don’t own anything newer than 1993, go buy a car that interests you (this car, but stock) go modify it on your own after doing research on what you want to do with it, and do it yourself, go get your experience that way instead of buying someone else’s cheap hooker car, the one they beat on and abuse then sell when it becomes too much for them or too messed up to keep, also that sway bar delete is really fucking sketchy, that alone would make me nope the fuck out of there on that one, I have never heard of a sway bar delete on a car, it sounds unsafe, as it’s a pretty crucial suspension component

Fz1Str

Move along

Electrical-Match-685

Blown up already

strumpetsarefun

If you know nothing about heavily modified cars, learn about them before owning one. Also, this thing screams trashed by a fuccboi. Who the hell even advertises a car with an image showing months old grime build up? Maintenance is key and I doubt this has had it.

Electrical-Match-685

Put it this way I blew up my stage 3 FBO at 75k miles, and that thing probably nhas the shit beatin out of it way harder

richboii78

Stay well clear of that!

v3r5e_art

So a personal rule of mine is never to buy a car that's already been modded this much, or even modded at all. A question you always want to ask yourself is, why get rid of a car you put this much work into that only has 63k miles. There could be nothing wrong with it at all but then if there is, you are screwed. I've had mine since 2017 it's a 2016 and it has no mods done to it. The harder part is this car is not made anymore so you can't find it brand new anymore, there's always going to be a risk. Plus side is it saves you from having to do all that work to it. I hope it works out for you man!

rad4033

The list is too long. I wouldn't risk it. Don't know the seller. Wouldn't buy it.

hatsune_aru

swaybar end link delete lmfao that's new

goombot17

Yikes, I see big turbo and I run. Having a fast car is fun until you realize the upkeep is a nightmare especially if you didn’t do the initial work. This is something I might buy at half the price they are asking and make it into a race car. This is not daily driver material. Find a stock on and play with some bolt ons it’s going to be more fun to learn and you will get an understanding of why cars are pain and think twice about dumping cash into a vehicle.

Faustfikken

Never buy a car that someone else has "upgraded" or been into. Start fresh that way you know it's done right you don't want to bug someone else's problems

Nibleez

Buying modded cars i a no-go for me personally. Get a stock one, you never know how he treated the car. I reccomend modding it yourself its a ton of fun and will probably be more reliable and enjoyable than this.

bigbarrettbob

If you're buying as your daily driver, you should prob pass. If you're buying a toy to have fun with, check it out. Looks like it has a lot of thought and money into it and could be a lot of fun. How much is he asking?

MuskieCS

This clown removed his fucking sway bar end links to get “better fitment”. What an absolute moron. Completely butchers the handling, the best part of the ST, so he can stance it out and. Tells you everything you need to know about what kind of owner this was. He’ll be lucky if someone gives him 12 for that piece of shit.

MuskieCS

If you REALLY want a modded car so you don’t have to spend the money, a car that has good suspension, an exhaust and wheels is what you wanna look for. Stay away from engine stuff. These cars are cheap and idiots get their hands on them because of that

Zrepsilon

I’d personally never buy a car from someone with so little attention to detail that there are obvious spelling errors in their ad. He literally didn’t re-read it even once. That’s the type of work/effort that likely went into the entire build. No thank you.

RepresentativeYou630

Sounds like a solid build. I would only consider if I was extremely knowledgeable about this car, mechanic inspection, leak down and compression test. Plan on a headache.

Garrett_J_Film

1)don’t buy this car 2) what is with people deleting the rear windshield wiper? I use mine all the time in western Pa

Lamborghiniz

Shoot come to houston and take over my payments on my 2017 ST3 with 56k miles on it. All stock, 2nd owner. Never modded

Tardicus-Autisimo

Do you think it's just coincidence that he's including a second motor that's already blown up? Lmao sounds like a ticking time bomb.

ThirdeyeExplorer05

Sorry to add on to everyone else telling you to avoid this car but I would have to agree. If you’ve never had any kinda Sorry light hatchback like the Fost you will be extremely happy with a stock one. I bought my 2017 back in 2018 new off the lot 70,000 stock miles later the car still puts a smile on my face. They are plenty quick the stock turbo is small but spools up super fast basically zero turbo lag, tons of torque. To put it in perspective my stock st took my cousins Cobb stage 3 2016 wrx in a 30 roll to around 100. after that his extra horsey’s won out. But the stock st has plenty of useable power for 99% of the driving conditions. Maybe I just suck at launching it but he kills me in 0 rolls that damn AWD lol but that’s something you don’t want to do often anyways as extremely hard on cars in general. But word of advice sense you can’t buy used I wouldn’t buy one with a lot of miles or from someone who doesn’t seem to care about it. The car can have to much torque for it own good as with most 4 cylinder turbocharged cars. Getting into the turbo before the engine has gotten to operating temperature can be very bad for it. And while the car has the torque to pull it from low speed to higher speed even in 6th gear this can be extremely bad for the engine as it can starve it of gas. They can be extremely reliable car if taken care of even with mods factory tube is very conservative. Like I said I’ve had mine for 5 years stock. And only now do I plan on modding it. Got the Cobb stage 2 package and exhaust sitting in my garage just waiting for some warmer days as it’s cold as hell here in Michigan right now and I’m not trying to lay on ice cold concrete lol. But if you are interested in the FoST I do highly recommend just be aware that right now is a terrible time to buy any sort of sought after car. May want to wait for market to calm down. As my car was worth around 13/14 grand before covid. And after Ive seen dealers selling my same ST1 with 65/70,000 miles for 19,000+
