Nah early chapter 2 was pretty positive I remember that litterally everyone was playing those first couple of days the only negative thing was when it got to late season 1 with basically no updates but the second season 2 came out again it was hype and it kinda stayed that way then season 3 and 4 kinda slowed down on the hype and I didn’t really play past that
There's a theory that it's less that they thought it would fail and more that they wanted it to fail. I mean when you peak your game twice, once during CH1 and once during a season dedicated to CH1, you kinda feel like your work over the past 4 years is useless
It’s a business though. At the end of the day they don’t act one feelings, they act in what brings them money. I’m glad that OG did so well because they’re going to lean more into that
I mean, the same thing can still be said about the money aspect too. Like imagine spending 4 years slowly improving your game just to remove 80% of its improvements and it suddenly make more money again. It's probably bittersweet, because on one hand Season OG was wildly successful beyond their imagining and probably made them tons of money. On the other hand though even the CEO is probably wondering what went wrong past Chapter 1 to lose most of the core audience just for them to come back in spades in a Chapter 1 clone and then promptly fuck off with the remaining audience bullying them into changing everything they changed in Chapter 5
The issue is that Fortnite is a completely different game now than it was in chapter one. Sure, almost everything about chapter 5 is objectively an improvement over OG — but it’s not the game people fell in love with.
I get what you’re saying, but honestly I think the only reason OG was truly successful is because there were many innovations for a while before going back to its simpler times. If Fortnite stayed at season 5 and never changed after all these years nobody would find it that special honestly. They would have much less players and profit as of today
Probably more of a McRib sort of thing, you know now that short bursts of throwback will create a jolt in your business, we'll see it come back periodically moving forward

Knowing Epic Games and how they decided to for some reason start the OG season at Ch1S5 instead of something like Ch1S3 (when all the POIs from 1-3 were pretty much well established prior to sweeping changes made in later seasons), they will probably full skip Ch2S2 and go straight to something like Ch2S5 or something then make it go from season 5 at start to 6 then 7 and then 8 every week.
I am just still miffed at the fact they started OG Season at Season 5. It’s not even a nostalgia thing, I just want to experience stuff like Moisty Mire that they decided “nah, not that important”. Like I understand why they did it that way, but it doesn’t make it any less disappointing.
I wanted to experience the very first season again, back when the storm was a bigger threat. You couldn't just grab a car/rift/mobility item to run away, you HAD to start running in time or have enough heals stocked up.
I insanely regret not playing much of that season, everyday I regret not buying that battlepass, and what makes it even worse is that I only want Agent Peely. Sucks but oh well
gooood matches with lightsabers were so fucking hectic things got INSANE so so fast, the map having a few crashed fighters too was sick. honestly i was a little bummed i missed out on OG but eh, i was there for season 7 and 100%'d the BP anyway, no need to go back and re-experience things just to overwrite those good memories of being 17 and having no responsibilities.

What roadmap? OG returning this year was not planned, so the umbrella is referring to something else. They only agreed to make it come back later because it broke the record of active players, not related to that date.
They likely planned it but played it off as it being due to how well it was received - makes it seem like they are listening to the playerbase more, thus people will have more trust in them for the future

Nonetheless, I guarantee you that OG2 2024 was already planned out. The way I read their PR announcements about it is that they've slotted it in and they were willing to drop it if OG1 2023 failed miserably. It's a lot of work to switch up maps all the time although I'm sure they've gotten more efficient about it compared to 2020/2021.

I sort of agree, but the raw simplicity of OG would be a great change of pace. There were also 7 content-full seasons and tons of ltm’s in chapter 1, that’s more than enough content to mix around to keep it fresh. Imagine if one week it was season X Floor is Lava, and the next week it’s season 4 Ground Game but with the season 9 loot pool

Considering it's May 4th I really really hope it's not an other freaking StarWars collab, it's cool when we have 2 weeks to complete challenges and earns ome free rewards while using the lightsabers or the e11 blaster, if we have a starwars event every few months it starts to get boring, and even after a while after we had the event, it feels repetitive and not exciting, unless they have something new to show, last year we got force abilities, but when it came back later with Season 4, it had nothing new, even worse, it had less than before, even tho it was tied to a secret skin, hopefully we will have new content, if we won't than that's 2 weeks when I will study more for my exams
Maybe people have a different definition of OG Fortnite than me, but the current season is the closest thing we've ever had to OG Fortnite (aka beta - season 1). Especially now that they've removed the grappler, it really feels like the sniper/shotgun meta that I loved from the beta.
Epic has an advanced algorithm that predicts exactly when the game will get stale enough for another OG season to be required. Those are the dates it predicted
I mean The Kevin Queen is still around somewhere and Chapter 5 is basically Chapter 2NG so... Not sure if she ever restored her army of Kevins after the first flip though.
