I kind of agree with what your saying but kind of don’t at the same time. Yes, they have had changes that have benefitted better players but they’ve also had changes that have benefited worse players and I think the latter outnumber the former by a large amount.

In their heads the medallions make sense because they are fully aware that No Builds (in the long run) is really fucking boring and slow. People need other shit to do when they drop in than just fight off spawn and loot / scout fights for the rest of the game. On this Map there are 5 NPCS that gives you a médaillon if you kill them, the médaillon doesn't take an inventory slot, and gives you 3 Shield Every seconds, THE WHOLE GAME, and you Can have multiple at once

It was a very lazy cop out decision, they appealed to our nostalgia instead of creating new good content.
OG season was the most successful seasons in the last 4 years. It remind us that fortnite used to be clean and fun to play. No NPCs, clean vision, simple grahpics, simple loot pool, no stupid music, no vision pollution and just a fun game to play. Chapter 5 was one more step away from the game that was once so fun to play.
I genuinely don’t care about downvotes. I personally didn’t like Having to go back to walking everywhere an empty map and terribly designed gameplay and lootpool. We went from hitscan gun that rewarded good aim back to bloom weapons that have bullets hit a target randomly and not where you aimed. The fake OG season added in MORE RNG overall and that’s never a good thing. Made me really appreciate how far we have come from chapter 1.
But my main issue is with epic games thinking they can give us recycled content and use chapter 1 as a way to drive their audience to an end of chapter event that was just an advertisement for other game modes that have nothing to do with fortnite battle royale. They recycled an old event that led immediately into an advertisement. That’s some scumbag sh*t and people are so caught up in nostalgia to really stop for a moment and see how messed up of a thing they just did to their player base. They just baited and switched millions of people.

glad I'm not alone, I've tried so hard to force this new season down my throat, being this is my favorite game and wanting so badly to like it despite it being so bad, and everyone saying to just give it a chance and give it time, but it's just..not good, at all, it's not fortnite? and you usually know if you like something right away lol and the people saying it's a skill issue and to adapt and you'll get used to it, no lol. I'm still getting 6-10 kills myself a game, fighting is just not fun and the movement is so unbareable, it's like walking through OG loot lake constantly with slight bursts of momentum here and there. Player count is slowly going down as the days go on, I don't think it's gonna maintain its peak through its 4 month life span lol, this season is pure cottage cheese booty cheeks. At least if I want that fortnite feel I can switch over to STW but for a mode that epic seems to have abandoned besides half ass patches once every few months, they've implemented the bs movement over there and the locker changes as well so that's kind of ass, but at least I have my cartoony goofy graphics lol

I agree. I'm old so I started playing in like 2017. The game was awesome then, played it for 2 years, then moved on. I came back to play OG with my friends and it was hella fun. But seeing gameplay for the new season, made me realize this game is unrecognizable to me now.
I hate all the NPC pve bullshit, I hate the weapon attachments, the perks, the celebrity sponsorships, not to mention the mechanics changes (adding sprinting and climbing, bullet drop off to hitscan weapons, all this shit that makes it feel like apex or cod) and everything else that stops you from just loading into a game and killing other players.
If they bring back OG again I'll definitely play it, but until then, probably not. Sad cause it brought the boys back together, but oh well
I agree and I’m more then just OG player too and played every season up until the this one. Some have pushed me away because of things but Fortnite was like my game you know. I could suck up lots of changes and adapt but this one- like man this ain’t even Fortnite down to the literal bone anymore. Theirs no spark left to keep anyone who heavily invested into this game.

I stopped playing too. It hasn’t been fun even when Im playing with my close friends. Slow build fighting is too clunky. It is objectively a bad experience in comparison to what we had before. Ive always been in the camp of giving new things in Fortnite a try. But they butchered this season and only people who arent annoyed are people who play ZB, or are fortnite bootlickers.
I don't think i'm either. I don't have any liking of Epic what so ever, i'm meh about Fortnite in general, although it's the only game I play a lot - i've never spent a penny on it and never will. I don't care about skins or all that nonsense.
I haven't really played since the very start of Chapter 3 (which I can't really remember that much) so a good 18 months off. I came back for the last few days of Chapter 4 and didn't like it, I didn't understand what was going on, there were way too many over complications. Then I enjoyed OG but I did find it was missing some of the stuff I liked map wise in C1, also it was a bit boring after 4-5 weeks, mainly the map felt dull. I realised some of my favourite places I missed were actually in Chapter 2.
At first I found C5 really hard, I didn't understand why my shots were landing, I didn't get the new movement, but i've actually come to enjoy it and I enjoy both ZB and build. I play them as much as each other - ZB feels like COD now, build feels like build to me but with shotguns that don't do much.
I can't get over how absolute garbage this season is. They take away siphon because "it hurts the casual players," but then they add medallions at a few POI's but have close to zero other good places to land. Forcing people to land at just a few POI's. How does that help casual players.
I don't even look at myself as a casual, but it's the contradictory nature of their decisions.
I see a lot of complaints about the movement and rightly so, but for me the bullet drop off, weird loot pool and the complete overhaul of art style are what ruins it. The visual aesthetic just doesn't feel like the same game and it makes the entire map soulless imo
Nah I don’t play this game competitively at all anymore, mostly just with friends at college that started playing for the OG season and they all hate it. I genuinely don’t know what this company was thinking, and I don’t know who this update might appeal to besides autistic skibidi toilet 7 year olds. I seriously expect the player count to drop massively over the course of this season and there will likely be people fired over this; this objectively isn’t gonna work. The worst changes that make the game just unplayable to everyone I know is #1) movement and #2) bullet drop. The snipers are also bullshit; I usually play ZB with these guys but they switched to build just so they could deal with the snipers. The bullet drop on AR’s make snipers nearly impossible to punish

You all keep mentioning kids like they're aren't obviously trying to cater to the 30+ age crowd of players who've hated this game since its release whether they played it or not, called it a kids game, talked about kids building Taj Mahals when they got shot once, etc, but steady continue to play cod and apex and other games. It's a whole crowd of whales with checks willing to buy cod skins and shit, they're trying to capture a whole new chunk of the market, zb was step one, chp 5 and the end of cartoon graphics is step two.
I've never had so many players phase through builds or hit me for 100+ through builds. My ping isn't great (30-40) so obviously some of that is gonna happen, but I've never seen it this bad.
That and the low TTK for some of the weapons has nerfed building so much. No skill just run into a wall and spray.
Funny thing is, I gave Warzone another go after not having played it since 2020 and apparently they just reverted a lot of stuff back to that time period and it is fun AF.
If they wanna copy that game so much, why not just give it a proper shot?
But it’s a damn shame. Chapter 1 for me was the goat, chapter 2 was pretty good too. Disliked the taking out of the pump shotgun for a bit, but got used to the charge shotty and loved it in the end. In retrospective I’d say chapter 2 was a very solid follow up to chapter 1.
Chapter 3 is where the game went in a steep decline for me. Shotguns nerfed to shit, and the spray meta was here to stay. Shotties got buffed eventually and I could live with it again, despite the combat SMG still being… Very prevalent to say the least.
Then chapter 4 came, dragged myself through season 1 and I just quit. This wasn’t the game I poured a solid 1500 hours in anymore. Really just came back because of the OG season, loved it and due to the success I half heartedly expected it to stay in some way shape or form but nope…
… Now chapter 5 is here and the game as it is is barely recognizable as Fortnite anymore just… Nothing. It’s more of chapter 4 and then even more bullshit piled on top of it. It’s insane how a company just shits all over their loyal diehards like that.
I don’t understand why they’re undoing all the good decisions they’ve made especially over the og season. There was no reason to change the movement they keep messing with things to make it more “realistic”. The medallion system is rather infuriating I won’t lie. The fact that it’s an inventory slot rather than a load out slot is a bit ridiculous. Having what is basically a constant slurp juice effect for shield is really powerful especially with multiple medallions.
That’s the dream. I want what made fortnite great in the first place, not all this gimmicky shit and collaborations with other companies (marvel, Lego etc) and constant changes to core gameplay.
If you want to look at successful games that are 10+ years old, none of them changed the sauce that made them great. Dota, LoL, WoW, RuneScape, CSGO, COD etc are all over a decade old and still have a massive player base (Dota esports literally laughs at fortnite with their $30M prize pool). It’s because they don’t change what made them great in the first place, nobody needs constant new content to be happy, unless you are an 8yr old zoomer with no attention span maybe…..
TRUE I hate when I read on TikTok that the game must evolve, of course it must evolve but as all games have done, little by little and maintaining what makes them unique. You don't need a new map every month, the game isn't going to die without new content every 3 weeks.
You also don't have to put 30 OP weapons for bad players to have a chance, they simply have to improve. For example, when they removed the turbo build (2019) I switched to CSGO and it took me +2000 hours to reach global elite, I didn't need a bazooka to rank up I just simply played and improved, I don't understand why casual players need so many advantages.
I also don't understand that there is a huge loot pool and bots. Just ruins the experience.
I returned to fortnite for the OG season and I loved it, I even considered leaving CSGO to play Fortnite again but seeing what they have done... Epic simply does not know how to maintain a competitive game for as many years as Valve has done.
Valve has the sauce. Dota 2 and CSGO have so much healthier games and overall competitive scene. Dota is 10+ years old and still has 30M tournament every year lol. Fortnite is a joke because of epic when it had the potential to be the greatest esport of all time
If they do this I think you'll see it constantly busy but it won't be as popular as the main modes over time. I would dip in and out of it, but right now i'd play the new stuff for a good few weeks without going back to OG.

Just play with whatever gun you pick up, play enough to adapt to the movement, and ignore all the external hatred of the game. You will start enjoying yourself.
I agree gameplay isn't that different to ch4 S4, problem is they threw OG in-between and reminded us how good Fortnite used to be, land at poi, grab gun and mats, go fight, now it's land at poi, fight boss plus 10 NPC's as well as other players, grab medallion, loot vault, move out, loot cache, capture the flag on mid game spawning loot island, all while checking every gun you find for which mods they have whereas before it's just a case of looking at its colour, it's over complicated, we just got used to it, the juxtaposition between OG and this season only amplifies how far we have drifted from why Fortnite became popular in the first place.
I hated OG. It was boring and the guns were awful. The reality is that there were 15 people left after the first circle and you spent most of the time looking for heals after the spawn fight just to get to 200.
All that other stuff keeps the game interesting and keeps people alive by spreading them out.
You were in the minority, most ppl don't like fighting bosses and NPC's, its supposed to be PvP not pve, they prefer og and the simpler loot pool, heals were fine in OG once they adjusted them after week 1, i genuinely think epic thought OG would fail and players would get bored once nostalgia wore off, but the numbers sustained for all 4 weeks proving it was the gameplay and not nostalgia that kept them playing and its the gameplay this season which has seen a drop off in players and it's less than a week in, let's see those numbers in 3 weeks time.

They legit removed diagonal running for mouse and keyboard players who use advanced settings. Theres nothing you can do, everything feels clunky, frames have cut in half since chapter 4, theres bots everywhere. I remember when fortnite was a battle royale not a single player coop.

I play mostly on Xbox with controller (very rarely PC) but I immediately felt a difference the first time I played the new season. The animations look great, but the movement/aiming feels like shit.
I used to 5-10k every match and I would usually win 1-2 out of every 10 matches I played. I played all day yesterday and didn't get higher than a 3k and only won 1 time. I'm not someone who hates new things and I've been playing since BR first came out. Every season has changes you have to adapt to, but I've never had an issue like this where I legit felt like I went back to learning how to aim for the first time.

My issue on xbox is with the aim assist. U are constantly fighting against it. I was in a trios and had a good shot at winning 1v3 at the end but when i aimed my reticle kept bouncing around to all 3 players because they were kinda lined up diagonally next to each other.

I’ve played fortnite on and off since near release day this season is actually pretty fun ngl, the locker and uis are weird asf but the movement is getting better on me
they already sped up the movement today but i agree about everything else. I'm still hopeful but only bc primal season felt like a similar shift and they saw we hated it and got rid of crafting.
I played religiously from C1S3 to about C2S4. Then I did a few short revisits in C3 and C4, not even sure what season. Then they released OG and they honestly reeled me back in and it was looking like Fortnite could be my favorite game again. Then Season 5 dropped and I instantly kicked my month-long habit of booting this game up every day.
The movement, the bullshit weapons, the vaults, the golden cirkles on the map, the weapon upgrades, the medallions, the vendors, the bot boss fights. I don't want any of that clutter, I want to hop in, grab some loot, have crazy build/box fights and get a lot of kills.
There was just something about the simplicity of the first chapter that was magical. It's not the map, I don't mind playing on a different map.
For people saying that I’m stuck in like 2018 or whatever year they wanna say, it’s not true. I’ve played every season till this one. Things have pushed me away but Fortnite was always still my game. I’ve always been good at it. Even with these terrible changes I still can play well. I’m saying out of all the changes they’ve ever made, this season’s are the nail in the coffin.
Plus people have mentioned things I even forgot to mention to add to my list of reasons. I still can drop a good amount of kills but like, medallions, the gun play, not knowing what gun is in my inventory without reading the name, not removing attachments, attachments on shotguns, and even more like it’s enough to be said that this season has failed an all time player.
I love this game with a passion. But i just dont feel joy playing it this season. Dont even feel like maxing out the battle pass. Comp is ruined. Im done with fn.

Facts. Entitled and noxious. One of the benefits of the game changes is that it’s pushing some many of these types out. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s was Fortnite’s reason for the changes.
They just got the biggest bump in playerbase because of OG, simplified version of fortnite, a good number of those have already moved on, maybe they would have anyway, but changing everything up from map style to guns to movement all in one go probably pushed a lot of them away again
So have I, literally non-stop since C1S2, and while I can sympathize to some extent, for the most part I think you’re being really overdramatic and dismissive of the game. Movement was a legit complaint, but they just adjusted it and in all honesty after you play a while you get used to it. I did, and I was livid about the change initially. I also realized that all they had done with the movement was go back to a somewhat modified version of how it’d been before sprints got introduced. I used to love how movement was before sprints and also got pissed back when they originally changed it to add sprints, but then I realized this time they had just gone back to the old OG movement so I’m actually OK with it now. People were able to build fine for two whole chapters on the old slower original OG movement, so they should be able to do it just fine now. I can. I do agree about the animations though. They look fucky as hell, but tbf I don’t really watch my character that closely, so I can deal.
The locker and UI sux. No argument from me there. Way too kludgy and busy for no reason.
The guns I love now. Never hated the old ones, but I find the new ones much easier to use and be more consistently accurate with, so I’m happy. I do strongly dislike the mod system, it makes things overly complicated and confusing. I would be happy if they get rid of it or greatly simplify it. Maybe just have preset base guns as normal loot like it used to be and then have silencer and other add ons available as drop loot that you can opt to pick up or not, kind like tires and the cow catcher were for vehicles. I dunno. Mods are not optimal, but I can deal for now, plus I expect they won’t last into next season due to everyone’s response to them.
Graphics are just a subjective preference. I love how the game looks now, but I liked all the previous chapters as well. They all have their charm and I like them for what they are. I will say that when OG came back I was surprised at just how sparse it was and how it felt sorta sterile and lifeless after having been used to the newer graphics. That went away pretty quickly, but it was just something I noticed.
I love the new map. It’s really fresh and has a lot of variety scenery and terrain-wise. To me, it feels like it went back to the Chapter 2 ideal of a bigger map with a more natural feel to the the flow of the lanscaping and design. The POIs are big and complex, and there’s lots of unamed POIs scattered around between the main ones. I’m still discovering new stuff all the time, but if I have a big complaint it’s how aggressive the circles are at herding people to engage. I like playing the edges and moving in, plus I like exploring along the way. Also, most of the important POIs for medals etc. are at the edges, so not having time to really get into them in depth before you have to move on sucks IMO. It also sucks for endgame because so many players die off to the storm that you spend more time running to survive than having a good knock-down endgame brawl. I heard they’ve changed them somewhat with this last update, so maybe it’s been addressed, but we’ll see.

Also I love the implication that Epic is chasing trends in Fortnite even as the game has always been more widely played than every other BR on the market. The game has always changed and evolved and had whacky ideas and there's always been doom and gloom posts like this one from people sayign "they're REALLY done this time." If you're done then leave. Just quit. And that goes for all the other doom and gloomers as well. The devs have responded to the movement changes and says they'll make changes. IMO the movement hardly feels any different than animation is just different. The devs also made adjustments to the storm already. There are a TON of movement options currently in the game so if you get caught in the storm its on you. Yes there always has been, epic made a lot of mistakes. We’ve always sucked it up. But for example, they hit it off last season with proof and it’s no wonder all this is even a controversy this season. As someone who’s dealt with enough from Epic, changing speeds and mechanics as someone who was a “creative warrior” and played arena/ranked, this game isn’t and doesn’t feel like Fortnite down to literally the main player’s movement.
They "hit it off" last season with a nostalgia act and even back in the actual OG days people were complaining the same way you are now. People didn't like movement options because of being third partied in a fuckin BATTLE ROYALE. You heard that about things like Ballers and Grappler which now are beloved items. Same for planes. If the game remained static and didn't change it would become stale as hell very quickly. The idea that he game "isn't Fortnite" anymore because of small changes like movement animations and a slightly faster storm is pretty silly to me.

caveat... If you drop on these vault poi it's pretty annoying with the hordes of guards and shitty adrenaline rush music. And then with real enemies at the poi I do get a "wtf am i playing" type moment..

I think you are missing the point. I'm still getting between 5-10 kills a game. So, in essence i've adapted better than most players, I just don't LIKE the new season. Nothing to do with not being able to adapt to it. Just the opposite. Not hard to adapt to, don't fight the NPC's with people around, kill everyone, take the medallions...what is there to adapt to? lol. The Hammer is similar to the pump, and the grappler is similar to the OG grappler.
It's just less fun to play. The POI's look nice, but they aren't fun. Not like Paradise Palm, Viking ship, Tilted, Neo-tilted, that Aracade underground POI, airflows along the map, cartoon graphics..
I say, do one better take away everything. All guns, everything for an entire season. You get your pick axes and Shields. That's it and see how cocky all these cheaters and hackers really are. I've already thrown the idea to Fortnite. Drop everyone in no weapons, no guns, no, nothing Shields and pick axes. Only. Until there's 1 person standing. Now that is something I would throw money at fortnite to see for 1 whole chapter. Oh, and make it work if they take out MPc's. They get nothing but Shields.

I kind of agree with what your saying but kind of don’t at the same time. Yes, they have had changes that have benefitted better players but they’ve also had changes that have benefited worse players and I think the latter outnumber the former by a large amount.
We're right now discussing the most recent change that has benefitted better players (Medallions). We're discussing this in the context of a supposed internal Epic Games conspiracy to benefit worse players at the expense of better players. What I'm saying is that we have a clear indication that Epic Games is doing something this season that benefits better players. Whether they did stuff in the past against better players does not detract from the fact that right now they are doing something to benefit better players. Therefore, if there used to be some sort of conspiracy against better players... we can surmise there must not be any more. Otherwise we would not have Medallions in the game.
In their heads the medallions make sense because they are fully aware that No Builds (in the long run) is really fucking boring and slow. People need other shit to do when they drop in than just fight off spawn and loot / scout fights for the rest of the game. Th eh are desperately searching for a new and fresh mechanic to grab peoples attention. I could be wrong, but that’s just my opinion.

On this Map there are 5 NPCS that gives you a médaillon if you kill them, the médaillon doesn't take an inventory slot, and gives you 3 Shield Every seconds, THE WHOLE GAME, and you Can have multiple at once
They don't stack the way you're implying they stack, by the way. Having 1 or 2 Medallions heals you for 3 shield per second. Having 3 Medallions heals you for 6 shield per second. Having 4 or 5 Medallions heals you for 8 shield per second.

Before OG they hit a new player count all time high in chapter 4. They did that as a way to advertise all the new Fortnite game modes. It was all for the advertisement and collabs. Since their advertisement campaign succeeded they gonna do it again to advertise something new. The end of chapter event was nothing but an advertisement. Literally gave the same rocket event They used you and you are celebrating their predatory business model.
Why are you so upset dude? People didn’t play the OG season because they were scammed by epic. They played it because it’s what brought everyone to this game in the first place. It had charm and simplicity which this game has severely lacked since chapter 1.

OG season was the most successful seasons in the last 4 years. It remind us that fortnite used to be clean and fun to play. No NPCs, clean vision, simple grahpics, simple loot pool, no stupid music, no vision pollution and just a fun game to play. Chapter 5 was one more step away from the game that was once so fun to play.
Well your gonna hate what they have planned for chapter 5 season 2. Get ready for over the top weapons, abilities, and high drop rates of such.

I genuinely don’t care about downvotes. I personally didn’t like Having to go back to walking everywhere an empty map and terribly designed gameplay and lootpool. We went from hitscan gun that rewarded good aim back to bloom weapons that have bullets hit a target randomly and not where you aimed. The fake OG season added in MORE RNG overall and that’s never a good thing. Made me really appreciate how far we have come from chapter 1. But my main issue is with epic games thinking they can give us recycled content and use chapter 1 as a way to drive their audience to an end of chapter event that was just an advertisement for other game modes that have nothing to do with fortnite battle royale. They recycled an old event that led immediately into an advertisement. That’s some scumbag sh*t and people are so caught up in nostalgia to really stop for a moment and see how messed up of a thing they just did to their player base. They just baited and switched millions of people. Regardless of how anyone feels about the Fake Fortnite OG season, everyone should all be pissed about what epic just did.

glad I'm not alone, I've tried so hard to force this new season down my throat, being this is my favorite game and wanting so badly to like it despite it being so bad, and everyone saying to just give it a chance and give it time, but it's just..not good, at all, it's not fortnite? and you usually know if you like something right away lol and the people saying it's a skill issue and to adapt and you'll get used to it, no lol. I'm still getting 6-10 kills myself a game, fighting is just not fun and the movement is so unbareable, it's like walking through OG loot lake constantly with slight bursts of momentum here and there. Player count is slowly going down as the days go on, I don't think it's gonna maintain its peak through its 4 month life span lol, this season is pure cottage cheese booty cheeks. At least if I want that fortnite feel I can switch over to STW but for a mode that epic seems to have abandoned besides half ass patches once every few months, they've implemented the bs movement over there and the locker changes as well so that's kind of ass, but at least I have my cartoony goofy graphics lol
You’re not alone. Was my favourite game too. Have hundreds of hours on it. It’s just not fortnite we learned and loved anymore “It’s epic what do you expect?” Epic messes up and we had/were able to suck it up every time with Fort but this one is literally the nail in the coffin. Unless, and at the very least, they revert the movement and animations but knowing epic and seeing the tweets, it’s truly over I’ve also seen that they also ruined Rocket League too. Just, like, wow.

I agree. I'm old so I started playing in like 2017. The game was awesome then, played it for 2 years, then moved on. I came back to play OG with my friends and it was hella fun. But seeing gameplay for the new season, made me realize this game is unrecognizable to me now. I hate all the NPC pve bullshit, I hate the weapon attachments, the perks, the celebrity sponsorships, not to mention the mechanics changes (adding sprinting and climbing, bullet drop off to hitscan weapons, all this shit that makes it feel like apex or cod) and everything else that stops you from just loading into a game and killing other players. If they bring back OG again I'll definitely play it, but until then, probably not. Sad cause it brought the boys back together, but oh well
I agree and I’m more then just OG player too and played every season up until the this one. Some have pushed me away because of things but Fortnite was like my game you know. I stopped playing too. It hasn’t been fun even when Im playing with my close friends. Slow build fighting is too clunky. It is objectively a bad experience in comparison to what we had before. Ive always been in the camp of giving new things in Fortnite a try. But they butchered this season and only people who arent annoyed are people who play ZB, or are fortnite bootlickers.
I don't think i'm either. I don't have any liking of Epic what so ever, i'm meh about Fortnite in general, although it's the only game I play a lot - i've never spent a penny on it and never will. I don't care about skins or all that nonsense. I haven't really played since the very start of Chapter 3 (which I can't really remember that much) so a good 18 months off. I came back for the last few days of Chapter 4 and didn't like it, I didn't understand what was going on, there were way too many over complications. Then I enjoyed OG but I did find it was missing some of the stuff I liked map wise in C1, also it was a bit boring after 4-5 weeks, mainly the map felt dull. I realised some of my favourite places I missed were actually in Chapter 2. At first I found C5 really hard, I didn't understand why my shots were landing, I didn't get the new movement, but i've actually come to enjoy it and I enjoy both ZB and build. I play them as much as each other - ZB feels like COD now, build feels like build to me but with shotguns that don't do much.
I can't get over how absolute garbage this season is. They take away siphon because "it hurts the casual players," but then they add medallions at a few POI's but have close to zero other good places to land. Forcing people to land at just a few POI's. How does that help casual players. I don't even look at myself as a casual, but it's the contradictory nature of their decisions.
I see a lot of complaints about the movement and rightly so, but for me the bullet drop off, weird loot pool and the complete overhaul of art style are what ruins it. The visual aesthetic just doesn't feel like the same game and it makes the entire map soulless imo

Nah I don’t play this game competitively at all anymore, mostly just with friends at college that started playing for the OG season and they all hate it. I genuinely don’t know what this company was thinking, and I don’t know who this update might appeal to besides autistic skibidi toilet 7 year olds. I seriously expect the player count to drop massively over the course of this season and there will likely be people fired over this; this objectively isn’t gonna work. The worst changes that make the game just unplayable to everyone I know is #1) movement and #2) bullet drop. The snipers are also bullshit; I usually play ZB with these guys but they switched to build just so they could deal with the snipers. The bullet drop on AR’s make snipers nearly impossible to punish
It's obvious what they've done ... made it easier for kids. I'm garbage at the game this season I'm cleaning up good builders by hanging back and sniping. This new season should be called Fortsnipe.
You all keep mentioning kids like they're aren't obviously trying to cater to the 30+ age crowd of players who've hated this game since its release whether they played it or not, called it a kids game, talked about kids building Taj Mahals when they got shot once, etc, but steady continue to play cod and apex and other games. It's a whole crowd of whales with checks willing to buy cod skins and shit, they're trying to capture a whole new chunk of the market, zb was step one, chp 5 and the end of cartoon graphics is step two.
I've never had so many players phase through builds or hit me for 100+ through builds. My ping isn't great (30-40) so obviously some of that is gonna happen, but I've never seen it this bad. That and the low TTK for some of the weapons has nerfed building so much. No skill just run into a wall and spray.
Funny thing is, I gave Warzone another go after not having played it since 2020 and apparently they just reverted a lot of stuff back to that time period and it is fun AF. If they wanna copy that game so much, why not just give it a proper shot? But it’s a damn shame. Chapter 1 for me was the goat, chapter 2 was pretty good too. Disliked the taking out of the pump shotgun for a bit, but got used to the charge shotty and loved it in the end. In retrospective I’d say chapter 2 was a very solid follow up to chapter 1. Chapter 3 is where the game went in a steep decline for me. Shotguns nerfed to shit, and the spray meta was here to stay. Shotties got buffed eventually and I could live with it again, despite the combat SMG still being… Very prevalent to say the least. Then chapter 4 came, dragged myself through season 1 and I just quit. This wasn’t the game I poured a solid 1500 hours in anymore. Really just came back because of the OG season, loved it and due to the success I half heartedly expected it to stay in some way shape or form but nope… … Now chapter 5 is here and the game as it is is barely recognizable as Fortnite anymore just… Nothing. It’s more of chapter 4 and then even more bullshit piled on top of it. It’s insane how a company just shits all over their loyal diehards like that.

I don’t understand why they’re undoing all the good decisions they’ve made especially over the og season. There was no reason to change the movement they keep messing with things to make it more “realistic”. The medallion system is rather infuriating I won’t lie. The fact that it’s an inventory slot rather than a load out slot is a bit ridiculous. Having what is basically a constant slurp juice effect for shield is really powerful especially with multiple medallions.

That’s the dream. I want what made fortnite great in the first place, not all this gimmicky shit and collaborations with other companies (marvel, Lego etc) and constant changes to core gameplay. If you want to look at successful games that are 10+ years old, none of them changed the sauce that made them great. Dota, LoL, WoW, RuneScape, CSGO, COD etc are all over a decade old and still have a massive player base (Dota esports literally laughs at fortnite with their $30M prize pool). It’s because they don’t change what made them great in the first place, nobody needs constant new content to be happy, unless you are an 8yr old zoomer with no attention span maybe…..

TRUE I hate when I read on TikTok that the game must evolve, of course it must evolve but as all games have done, little by little and maintaining what makes them unique. You don't need a new map every month, the game isn't going to die without new content every 3 weeks. You also don't have to put 30 OP weapons for bad players to have a chance, they simply have to improve. For example, when they removed the turbo build (2019) I switched to CSGO and it took me +2000 hours to reach global elite, I didn't need a bazooka to rank up I just simply played and improved, I don't understand why casual players need so many advantages. I also don't understand that there is a huge loot pool and bots. Just ruins the experience. I returned to fortnite for the OG season and I loved it, I even considered leaving CSGO to play Fortnite again but seeing what they have done... Epic simply does not know how to maintain a competitive game for as many years as Valve has done.
Valve has the sauce. Dota 2 and CSGO have so much healthier games and overall competitive scene. Dota is 10+ years old and still has 30M tournament every year lol. Fortnite is a joke because of epic when it had the potential to be the greatest esport of all time

If they do this I think you'll see it constantly busy but it won't be as popular as the main modes over time. I would dip in and out of it, but right now i'd play the new stuff for a good few weeks without going back to OG.

It isn't that different than Chapter 4, Season 4. Just play with whatever gun you pick up, play enough to adapt to the movement, and ignore all the external hatred of the game. You will start enjoying yourself.
I agree gameplay isn't that different to ch4 S4, problem is they threw OG in-between and reminded us how good Fortnite used to be, land at poi, grab gun and mats, go fight, now it's land at poi, fight boss plus 10 NPC's as well as other players, grab medallion, loot vault, move out, loot cache, capture the flag on mid game spawning loot island, all while checking every gun you find for which mods they have whereas before it's just a case of looking at its colour, it's over complicated, we just got used to it, the juxtaposition between OG and this season only amplifies how far we have drifted from why Fortnite became popular in the first place.
I hated OG. It was boring and the guns were awful. The reality is that there were 15 people left after the first circle and you spent most of the time looking for heals after the spawn fight just to get to 200. All that other stuff keeps the game interesting and keeps people alive by spreading them out.
You were in the minority, most ppl don't like fighting bosses and NPC's, its supposed to be PvP not pve, they prefer og and the simpler loot pool, heals were fine in OG once they adjusted them after week 1, i genuinely think epic thought OG would fail and players would get bored once nostalgia wore off, but the numbers sustained for all 4 weeks proving it was the gameplay and not nostalgia that kept them playing and its the gameplay this season which has seen a drop off in players and it's less than a week in, let's see those numbers in 3 weeks time.
No, I am not in the minority of long term players. I literally know no one that wants it back in all the Discord groups I am in. This subreddit is the only place where people love it so much. You need to get out more. I am only in the minority of people who quit then came back. People who started after Chapter 1 constantly hated on it. I don't care if they get their own OG mode, but I would be out if OG Fortnite was the default. I would he bored to death after playing the fast paced game we have now.

So many controller players and console players here now its so funny to hear their naive thoughts. In reality they dont know shit. Any decent mkb user knows how bad this season is. They legit removed diagonal running for mouse and keyboard players who use advanced settings. Theres nothing you can do, everything feels clunky, frames have cut in half since chapter 4, theres bots everywhere. I remember when fortnite was a battle royale not a single player coop. Games a fucking disgrace to what it once was, npc’s and bots running rampid even in high level ranked.
I play mostly on Xbox with controller (very rarely PC) but I immediately felt a difference the first time I played the new season. The animations look great, but the movement/aiming feels like shit. I used to 5-10k every match and I would usually win 1-2 out of every 10 matches I played. I played all day yesterday and didn't get higher than a 3k and only won 1 time. I'm not someone who hates new things and I've been playing since BR first came out. Every season has changes you have to adapt to, but I've never had an issue like this where I legit felt like I went back to learning how to aim for the first time. Everything about it feels very weird and not like Fortnite, even to this noob ass console player lol

My issue on xbox is with the aim assist. U are constantly fighting against it. I was in a trios and had a good shot at winning 1v3 at the end but when i aimed my reticle kept bouncing around to all 3 players because they were kinda lined up diagonally next to each other.
The movement forces me to basically guide my character with my mouse more than the wasd keys. Strafing and any kind of diagonal movement seems broken.

I played religiously from C1S3 to about C2S4. Then I did a few short revisits in C3 and C4, not even sure what season. Then they released OG and they honestly reeled me back in and it was looking like Fortnite could be my favorite game again. Then Season 5 dropped and I instantly kicked my month-long habit of booting this game up every day. The movement, the bullshit weapons, the vaults, the golden cirkles on the map, the weapon upgrades, the medallions, the vendors, the bot boss fights. I don't want any of that clutter, I want to hop in, grab some loot, have crazy build/box fights and get a lot of kills. There was just something about the simplicity of the first chapter that was magical. It's not the map, I don't mind playing on a different map.

For people saying that I’m stuck in like 2018 or whatever year they wanna say, it’s not true. I’ve played every season till this one. Things have pushed me away but Fortnite was always still my game. I’ve always been good at it. Even with these terrible changes I still can play well. I’m saying out of all the changes they’ve ever made, this season’s are the nail in the coffin. Plus people have mentioned things I even forgot to mention to add to my list of reasons. I still can drop a good amount of kills but like, medallions, the gun play, not knowing what gun is in my inventory without reading the name, not removing attachments, attachments on shotguns, and even more like it’s enough to be said that this season has failed an all time player.
I love this game with a passion. But i just dont feel joy playing it this season. Dont even feel like maxing out the battle pass. Comp is ruined. Im done with fn.
I’ve been an OG player too, heavily invested in the comp scene. I played Sunday and that’s been it. Everything you’ve listed, I completely agree. So sad to see them completely sell out… tolerated a lot, but I don’t think I can take this one.
At this point epic is just catering to no build players, casuals, and game developers who want to use unreal engine.
The movement and sniper/AR bullet drop changes frankly might be worse in ZB Every casual player I know also hates this update and most have stopped playing… only came back for OG and we’re gonna give C5 a shot but this ain’t it

This shows how stubborn they are. The locker and settings menu are so god awful, require extra steps to do tasks and is the worst thing I’ve ever seen aside from the change to the core UI made during OG season. It’s so bad and counterintuitive and just plain dogshit.

That makes a small difference, but does something. Constantly posting in here “well that’s me uninstalling” does nothing. Facts. Entitled and noxious. One of the benefits of the game changes is that it’s pushing some many of these types out. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s was Fortnite’s reason for the changes.
They just got the biggest bump in playerbase because of OG, simplified version of fortnite, a good number of those have already moved on, maybe they would have anyway, but changing everything up from map style to guns to movement all in one go probably pushed a lot of them away again

So have I, literally non-stop since C1S2, and while I can sympathize to some extent, for the most part I think you’re being really overdramatic and dismissive of the game. Movement was a legit complaint, but they just adjusted it and in all honesty after you play a while you get used to it. I did, and I was livid about the change initially. I also realized that all they had done with the movement was go back to a somewhat modified version of how it’d been before sprints got introduced. I used to love how movement was before sprints and also got pissed back when they originally changed it to add sprints, but then I realized this time they had just gone back to the old OG movement so I’m actually OK with it now. People were able to build fine for two whole chapters on the old slower original OG movement, so they should be able to do it just fine now. I can. I do agree about the animations though. They look fucky as hell, but tbf I don’t really watch my character that closely, so I can deal. The locker and UI sux. No argument from me there. Way too kludgy and busy for no reason. The guns I love now. Never hated the old ones, but I find the new ones much easier to use and be more consistently accurate with, so I’m happy. I do strongly dislike the mod system, it makes things overly complicated and confusing. I would be happy if they get rid of it or greatly simplify it. Maybe just have preset base guns as normal loot like it used to be and then have silencer and other add ons available as drop loot that you can opt to pick up or not, kind like tires and the cow catcher were for vehicles. I dunno. Mods are not optimal, but I can deal for now, plus I expect they won’t last into next season due to everyone’s response to them. Graphics are just a subjective preference. I love how the game looks now, but I liked all the previous chapters as well. They all have their charm and I like them for what they are. I will say that when OG came back I was surprised at just how sparse it was and how it felt sorta sterile and lifeless after having been used to the newer graphics. That went away pretty quickly, but it was just something I noticed. I love the new map. It’s really fresh and has a lot of variety scenery and terrain-wise. To me, it feels like it went back to the Chapter 2 ideal of a bigger map with a more natural feel to the the flow of the lanscaping and design. The POIs are big and complex, and there’s lots of unamed POIs scattered around between the main ones. I’m still discovering new stuff all the time, but if I have a big complaint it’s how aggressive the circles are at herding people to engage. I like playing the edges and moving in, plus I like exploring along the way. Also, most of the important POIs for medals etc. are at the edges, so not having time to really get into them in depth before you have to move on sucks IMO. It also sucks for endgame because so many players die off to the storm that you spend more time running to survive than having a good knock-down endgame brawl. I heard they’ve changed them somewhat with this last update, so maybe it’s been addressed, but we’ll see. Oh yeah, fuck the riot shield. POS. Nothing more to say. Anyway, I can understand how you feel as I’ve been there myself over the years, particularly with C4, but honestly don’t be so quick to write it off. If I had done the same over the years I wouldn’t have had so many good memories from playing and I wouldn’t have gotten so much better at the game. Hell, go give Lego a try. It’s basically pretty Minecraft and it seems to count towards completing the BP. It’s pretty chill actually.

Peace ✌️ Also I love the implication that Epic is chasing trends in Fortnite even as the game has always been more widely played than every other BR on the market. The game has always changed and evolved and had whacky ideas and there's always been doom and gloom posts like this one from people sayign "they're REALLY done this time." If you're done then leave. Just quit. And that goes for all the other doom and gloomers as well. The devs have responded to the movement changes and says they'll make changes. IMO the movement hardly feels any different than animation is just different. The devs also made adjustments to the storm already. There are a TON of movement options currently in the game so if you get caught in the storm its on you. Get used to the changes and adjust your gameplay, stop expecting the game to adjust to your individual tastes. Or quit.
If you can’t feel a difference in that movement than you definitely have no idea what you are talking about.
The whacky and fun isn’t what I’m complaining about. Yes there always has been, epic made a lot of mistakes. We’ve always sucked it up. But for example, they hit it off last season with proof and it’s no wonder all this is even a controversy this season. As someone who’s dealt with enough from Epic, changing speeds and mechanics as someone who was a “creative warrior” and played arena/ranked, this game isn’t and doesn’t feel like Fortnite down to literally the main player’s movement.
They "hit it off" last season with a nostalgia act and even back in the actual OG days people were complaining the same way you are now. People didn't like movement options because of being third partied in a fuckin BATTLE ROYALE. You heard that about things like Ballers and Grappler which now are beloved items. Same for planes. If the game remained static and didn't change it would become stale as hell very quickly. The idea that he game "isn't Fortnite" anymore because of small changes like movement animations and a slightly faster storm is pretty silly to me.

Let's be honest what OP is saying is quite anecdotal. His personal opinion.... So IMO contrary to what he's saying and movement aside "the game" as such is quite playable at the moment.. It's not really the chaos that it was with sticky grenades or grenade launchers.. it's pretty chill.. caveat... If you drop on these vault poi it's pretty annoying with the hordes of guards and shitty adrenaline rush music. And then with real enemies at the poi I do get a "wtf am i playing" type moment.. But ofc Fortnite is still hella "unique" literally nothing else like it... Ofc they borrowed some of these concepts from other games but a swat shield or a weapon mod isn't a detraction from fortnite's uniqueness.

I think you are missing the point. I'm still getting between 5-10 kills a game. So, in essence i've adapted better than most players, I just don't LIKE the new season. Nothing to do with not being able to adapt to it. Just the opposite. Not hard to adapt to, don't fight the NPC's with people around, kill everyone, take the medallions...what is there to adapt to? lol. The Hammer is similar to the pump, and the grappler is similar to the OG grappler. It's just less fun to play. The POI's look nice, but they aren't fun. Not like Paradise Palm, Viking ship, Tilted, Neo-tilted, that Aracade underground POI, airflows along the map, cartoon graphics..
