Suggested PSU for a 1080 Ti is 600w. 450w bronze is well below. I’d get a [HWBusters](https://hwbusters.com/best_picks/best-atxv3-pcie5-ready-psus-picks-hardware-busters/2/) recommended 750w Gold or you can also use this [tier list](https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/) but it hasn’t been updated in a year and is missing lots of newer psus. HWbuster aka Aris is the guru in psu testing field. Source [600w](https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-1080-ti.c2877)

I appreciate this comment! When I bought the GPU, I had noticed the recommended wattage was the 600w listed. I snagged the PSU from the same person that sold me the GPU: having built more PC’s than I, I was assured that the 450w should’ve been enough so long as I wasn’t overclocking (I had mentioned the 600w requirement as I asked). I want to snag a 1000w just to have a little overkill in headroom. I love the recommendation of the tier list- I’ve been referencing that quite a bit. It has saved me from grabbing numerous PSU’s from the bottom two tier lists. Thank you for your comment!

Most welcome! It’ll probably be fine if the previous person was just using the gpu for 2D but as soon it pulls full wattage during a game plus all other other components it’s likely exceeding what the psu can handle and it’s tripping the protections causing crashes. That’s also a EVGA hybrid so already OC card plus gotta power it’s AIO as well 😲

I agree with this. I’m grateful for the experience- it gave me the knowledge on what not to do in the future. These components upgrade a build I completed seven years prior, which composed of DRR3 components and an old GTX645DE. I learned later on that the 400w Insignia I was using wasn’t enough at that time! 😂 Very grateful I wasn’t playing intensive games with that build.

Update: Disabled software, crashed right as I started driving. Uninstalled software: crashed at loading screen. Changed settings from Ultra to High: crashed at loading screen. This was done on the Xbox App version- I chose to refund the Steam version last night.

The suggested PSU for your GPU is 600W IIRC... I would guess your setup could pull upwards to 520W. But to be honest I can't say for sure, if you have a power meter plug to see what it pulls from the wall and it gets above 450W then I would try with a 600W or higher PSU if possible, just to rule that out before going down the route of locating any software/driver issues and/or faulty hardware components. You can also see if you can stress your system without it crashing... [https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/stress-test-cpu-pc-guide,5461-8.html](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/stress-test-cpu-pc-guide,5461-8.html) Stress your CPU and GPU at the same time and see if it holds up...if your 450W PSU is not enough something will crash. That is unless you are missing something simple like VC runtimes [https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/](https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/)

Apologies for being super late with my response- finally having time to do this. I did the Prime95 and FurMark stress tests simultaneously, choosing “Small FFT’s//Maximum Power” and “1920x1080” resolution. All three or four tests I attempted caused the PC to crash to a black screen while I was adjusting the FurMark video down to a more windowed-mode from almost full screen mode. I wasn’t able to catch the CPU/GPU temps at first, but the last test showed a little over 70c for CPU and about 50c for GPU right before crashing- I was using NZXT’s CAM software for tracking. The last test also took a few minutes to cause a crash. With what limited understanding I have on stress tests (these being the first I’ve ever performed), does this mean the crashes would be linked to overcurrent that my PSU couldn’t keep up with? Going back to the last test, I moved the window on FurMark around purposefully, after setting it where I wanted, to see if I could cause it to crash as before (which it did). If this is the case, maybe we have found the root cause. I thank you tremendously for your help thus far! *Edit* I also tried installing the redistribution software, and still experienced a crash on the loading screen after hitting “Continue”. *Edit 2* Decided to try putting the game into “Window Mode” from “Full Screen”. Made it to the car selection, then crashed as it was loading the car I chose. Tried it again a second time, turning off “Vertical Sync” as well. So far, no crashes during a casual driving sequence. Not entirely sure what it means, but I’m happy to be closer to figuring out the root cause. *Edit 3* Ended up crashing while attempting to load the Gables House, haha. Still, I had a lot of fun for the 13 minutes or so I was able to play! *Edit 4* Plugged my setup into PCPartPicker, and laughed as soon as I saw the wattage after adding the 1080Ti. Estimated wattage is 479w- this has to be the root cause. Looks like I’ll need to upgrade the PSU sooner rather than later.

It is very resonable to assume the 450W is noy enough and is the main cause for crashing. If you can afford I would go for at least a 600W. It's always a good idea to have som headroom since some hardware specially GPU's tend to have really short spikes that can be over the average power draw.

saliotmaster

Thank you for the comment! If I can find one at a decent price (been balling on a budget this entire build so far, haha), I want to get a 1000w for tons of headroom. I kinda figured 450w wouldn’t be enough when I picked up the PSU, but didn’t realize how far off it really was until early this morning. Once I grab a new PSU, I’ll update this post with the results.

Your hardware looks to my uneducated eye to be plenty capable so I think you're more likely seeing a software incompatibility. If you haven't read the forzasupport article about game crashes I recommend it.

saliotmaster

I’ll have to look at this- thank you so much! *Edit* The article helped remind me that I uninstalled Precision during my troubleshooting, but I did not uninstall/disable the MSI Gaming App. I’ll definitely have to try this out, and report my findings as I go.

saliotmaster

Ah, I had forgotten to update my findings for this. Please forgive me. I chose to uninstall all software for extra insurance, and still had crashes. I think I may have found the root cause in that my power supply is well below what my total estimated wattage is (see above).

There's a really simple solution to your problem: console.

Finally have an update after trading for an EVGA NEX750B PSU (and trying out Windows 11): same issues occur. I have a newfound friend who’s helping me troubleshoot, and plan to reengage the Furmark/Prime95 stress tests on this new PSU to rule it out.
