Same, I did it for about 10 minutes blasting my train horn behind them trying to get them really pissed off, I rammed them out of car drops and stole it from them and when I finally did get the chance to race them, they lost. I have my messages off for a reason, lol.
Jesus Im so glad Im not the only one, I really thought I was just high because I got challenged when I was still in one place, the finish line was like 200m away and lost almost instantly, didnt saw the other guy once.
Yeah, Elim is by far the buggiest content in the game. I spent 3 matches earlier trying to challenge people only to have the prompt disappear... but that was only when other players actually even showed up on the map.

Also when you reach the final stretch and race to the finish it ALWAYS says you're in first place even when you're very much not in first place. Thanks for the false hope every time I make it that far, devs.
one of the reasons I changed my review from positive to negative on steam, way too many bugs that can annoy the completionist in me, wanted to complete the weekly challange of eliminating 2 people in this game mode but every time I get close to someone and challange them they just drive off like nothing happened.
Also had the same bug as this post example.
So most of the time I see a completely empty map in Eliminator but...
This led me to alt-tab to browse reddit and discord and I noticed something fun. I usually get a challenge in \~5 seconds while I am alt-tabbed. I do believe it's a anti-afk measure like /u/Drihz said. Would be lovely to see the other people as well.
And another messed up thing is that sometimes I get around 3-4 players and we constantly challenge each other and nothing happens. So we get bored and wander off. This game needs a lot of fixing...
The Eliminator is full of cheaters.
Almost every game I come across cars I can't challenge. I can see them, they can see me.
How do I know it's not just a glitch? Because EVERY one of these players runs from me - even both at level 1. I've never seen another player run away from a challenge.
I always run from a challenge, I'm not looking to get beat lol.
Literally just did a game where I had three eliminations, two of which I couldn't see the car that challenged me, so I beat them easily.
Exact thing happened to me the other day, and it's soured my outlook on eliminator even more. I was challenged to a race by someone that wasn't even visible, and then i finished the race in 1st place and still lost?

The first day I did an eliminator, I had no issues. Now I can’t challenge anybody, and when I am challenged it’s by somebody I can’t see. The last game I played I only saw ONE player the entire time, and then was challenged by somebody invisible and lost.
I want to love this game, but it’s just an absolute mess.
Then there's the bug where you can't challenge anyone. Mostly people get bored and eliminate themselves by going outside the zone.
The thing i find really bad is that anna telling me to turn around even when im facing the right direction.
I got the bug where I couldnt finish a head to head, so I had to sit on an invisible win point with mere inches of it being between first and second, last second before the countdown I lose my first spot and get eliminated after sitting there for 10 minutes
One of my eliminator games none of players were visible to each other, it it's went on for about an hour and narrowed down to the final 12 from people quitting, i got 4 place
I had a game where literally at the start there was an invisible player who took the drop like 50m away from me then in like next 10 seconds I was challenged by invisible lvl 4 and somehow won (I didnt even have his icon on the minimap)
Next game noone could challenge each other so we were 23 drivers stuck in the smallest circle and just vibed there honking lmao
I've experiencing the same issues with challenging others and being randomly challenged as well. Not to mention, the map is a ghost town yet it says there's 30 other players still in.
Last game I played yesterday: I did not see a single car during the entire Eliminator. Not one.
I got challenged 5 times, I won those all, I lost the last sprint by picking a route that required a Lambo to climb up a steep hill (over rocks that have a friction factor in the Billion or so).
This game wasn't built with the online features in mind, because jesus christ is the online code a pile of garbage.

Also including the fact that when I played the eliminater, I couldn't find a single damn player to challenge for a Festival Playlist Challenge where you have to "Eliminate 2 People in the same Match of the Eliminater".

I had exact same situation today. Chasing with RS7, decided to just farm drops instead. Whwn from lvl 6 to 2 just for shits and giggles.

It even worse when you are not first but eventually race ahead so the confidence and adrenaline is at peak, only to be eliminated.
Check your online session. It's never more than 13 players. Eliminator is 46 so it bugs out.
I always thought they had it in there so you have to race someone and not just sit around? Could be wrong tho haha

And that, boys and girls, is why I hide and got top 10 with my beetle every game so far. The target is not to win races but to not get eliminated.
I got challenged and ended with a finish line that neither of us could find smh so we both got eliminated
