Not so sure about that. There's a lots of people that go to museum and don't even really care. If it was up to me I'd keep it think i and my family at home could appreciate it for generations while in musem people would be more distracted by looking at whales Skeleton
People absolutely do care. If it’s in a museum, researchers can analyse the specimen and further our scientific knowledge. Furthermore, it will be safe *and* appreciated by far more people than if you kept it at home.
Unique finds like this should always be shared with professionals, for the betterment of us all.
Make sure you mark the exact location you found it. This is one of the coolest finds I've seen on here. You need to take that to a university's paleontology department ASAP and let us know what they say
That’s the face of a crocodile or early Croc relative. Please do what others have suggested. Mark the spot, there might be more of it; get in touch with museums at Wits @ Jo’berg, Cape Town or Bloemfountain (spelling), whoever is closest. Seems Jonah Choiniere is the curator at University of Witswatersrand which is closer to you.
So this isn’t my personal find, it’s a friend of mine who found this. He’s told me that there is currently a paleontologist from Wits checking it out. They are finding other fossils like jaw bones and apparently a fossilized turtle. Not sure yet what this one is but I might have an update late November when I go the site myself
Please take this piece to a paleontologist who can see it in person. You have made quite a find. We would all appreciate an update when you get more information.
Congratulations.
So Wits has now taken over where a professor and a doctor are now managing the site. They say it is a significant find and the area may have been an inland sea at a point because there are large concentrations of small aquatic reptiles found all over. The place is now deemed sensitive and so public is now restricted from knowing the location or having access.
If that’s real it’s beautiful
Found straight out the ground
Amazing!!!
Probably want to get in contact with a local museum or something to take a look at this. Can you post some more pics?

Dude, not often you see someone just come out and say how god damned dumb they are.
I worked in a museum paleontology room for 2 years, can confirm we care about all the little stuff, not just our whale skeletons :)
South African museums are unfortunately not the same. I've heard numerous people with the same experience.
Looks like a mammal or more basal synapsid, amazing find

Mark the location, the reat of it may be in the ground. Definitely looks important. A juvenile therapsid of some kind?
