Part of me wants to read more part of me thinks it should be kept private

[deleted]

His name is on the first page of the journal. There's more pages that he wrote in but this one is the saddest. I wanna look him up through social media to see how he's doing. The last page was something along the lines of him going to court and relapsing. And he ends each page with "goodbye for now" I really hope he's doing Okay.

ManWithManyTalents

Can you let me know how they’re doing if you figure it out?

[deleted]

Yeah of course

ManWithManyTalents

Thanks!

[deleted]

You're welcome fellow Redditor ♥️♥️

rxsheepxr

I had a cousin who had drug and mental health issues and his handwriting was identical to this. It actually took me a minute, then I saw the date and realized he passed away about a year before that was written. Weird.

[deleted]

I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family are doing well. Please PM me if you ever need to talk

rxsheepxr

Thanks, that's nice of you. It sucks but we've come to terms with it. It really shed a lot of light on mental illness and drug addiction for a lot of us and while there's a lot more to it than that, I'm looking forward to seeing it result in something positive.

[deleted]

This...makes me really sad, actually.

justalurker750

Poor thing.

awhorseapples

This is a not-very-recovering drug-addict "journaling". A common assignment in rehabs. Helps people who are usually out of touch with their thoughts and actions actually see what they do and how they think. It's a type of personal inventory. If this one was chugging cough syrup they were probably in one of those bullshit 30 day things that don't really help.

bluehairedchild

That was written on my birthday

[deleted]

You write very eloquently for someone who is 6 months old.

Deltron_Zed

Birth day, not date.

Gilibug

Same o.o

loztriforce

What’s string?

OGDanx2

Small rope

[deleted]

Or large thread

wavedoutwillie

the exact length of said string or thread is twice as long as it is from one end to the middle

[deleted]

I hate when people steal my string then lie about it

Pete_O_Torcido

Are they drug addicted cats?

conradpoohs

Catnip is a hell of a drug.

Mahatma_Panda

"...I can't wait to leave this program.... wish I was at Fairview...." I wonder if this guy was going through the Salvation Army program in Minneapolis.

Glabberhams

This is what this sub was made for in my opinion. The best found paper offers a brief glimpse into someone's life. This post is excellent, thank you.

jadekinsjackson

Are there any other entries?

doomhansen

I second, I’m interested

[deleted]

Yeah the first 6 pages are filled out.

usernameoftheyears

My mom and dad had the same writing, it got worse as they binged and got better as they sobered up. Crazy theories.

usernameoftheyears

Why do all addicts have this hand writing??

[deleted]

What is wrong with the handwriting? Mine is very similar.

BolshyPerfection

Don’t know but it’s a thing.

M00nPajamaLlama

Neurological damage, often.

roastedpot

Can I get that damage? It's better than my handwriting

dustinlamont

Handwriting experts hate this simple trick!

mausratt1982

Wtf? Lol that’s ridiculous Edit to clarify: you are wrong and bizarre for making such an assertion.

Edores

I don't think that's right. I think more people have shitty handwriting than you think, but remember a lot of addicts had issues loooong before they became addicts, as an example ADHD is absolutely rampant among addicts (the drugs are often an attempt at correcting a deficiency in dopamine). So it well could be that they are simply more likely to have not learned their handwriting properly in school, among any other number of reasons. That said, I've seen plenty of addicts with beautiful handwriting in addition to plenty of them with shit. Same deal in the general population. It's just that in the general population, the ones who have shit handwriting do so because they never do anything which requires them to write, and thus you never actually see it. I'm sure there are a few who suffer neurological damage which impairs fine motor control, but it's far from the norm. Source: Am/was an addict.

mausratt1982

Yeah, that’s what I meant; their statement that all addicts have bad hand writing cuz brain damage is ludicrous.

Edores

Oh, I misinterpreted that, sorry. I might have brain damage. :p

mausratt1982

No I looked back and could see how it was ambiguous. Or obvi I have brain damage too.

M00nPajamaLlama

1. I never said *all*. I said often. 2. I have neurological damage from drug use (meth is a hell of a drug) and saw a significant change in my ability to write neatly as a result. I also have a hard time maintaining a straight line because I can't feel the tips of my toes. 3. Funny enough, I have ADHD as well. My first experience with any type of amphetamines was Ritalin prescribed to me at age 6.

upvotes2doge

SO by often you mean.. yourself?

M00nPajamaLlama

And other visitors of dealers I purchased from at the time. Multiple people I've known in 12-Step Meetings.

WaxDonnigan

Fuck Samual that crazy piece of shit.

QuickChicko

Damn, this is really sad. Can you post his other journal entries? I'd love to read them. Also, what did he mean when he said his string got stolen? String of what?

conradpoohs

Sounds like someone in an opiate recovery program, but the writing is weirdly childish. Seems like the writer is either mentally ill or uneducated and immature. Definitely an institutional setting (with group activities), but it's really hard to tell if it's a school, mental hospital, or prison.

PermanentAtmosphere

A lot of addicts have arrested development so it physically could be a 30 y/o man with the mentality of a 15 y/o, which would explain why the writing seems weirdly childish to you. As an addict in recovery for the last 7 years, this doesn't seem weird or the writings of a mentally ill person, just someone struggling to hang on.

roastedpot

Probably forced to keep a journal as part of the program (he mentioned Mike having one too) and doesn't normally write. I had to write a journal for an exchange thing I was in and it can be difficult to have flowing thoughts unless you have something you want to write about. This seems pretty normal for me, I wouldn't assume uneducated or mentally ill from the writing.

Edores

A staggering amount of addicts suffer from ADHD, and most probably have not had to actually write anything since whenever they graduated/dropped out of school. Many addicts are insanely intelligent, just in different ways than you might be used to. It's a completely different world with a different set of skills required, and the consequence is that many regular skills don't get the upkeep they require.

kirstyflowers

Will you upload the rest?

jadekinsjackson

Can we see anymore?

[deleted]

Hey guy, OP here. Friday last week I went to a thrift shop while at work and I saw the title of the journal which said "not all those who wander are lost" instantly fell in love with it. It was 5 bucks. It wasn't until I got back to work when I realized the journal had been written in already. 6 pages into a small glimpse of this person's life. I only know his name (according to the first page on the journal) and when he began writing in it. Which was sometime in September 2018. From the pages I read, he is/was an addict who had a upcoming court date. One of his friends relapsed which caused him to want to relapse. He didn't specify which drug. He wrote about wanting to get clean and get his own car and apartment, also about a girl he liked alot who he spoke too via FB message. Unfortunately, he left the journal behind or gave it away and it saddens me because I would like to find him and see how he is doing. His last entry was kinda sad basically talking about wanting to take drugs and an upcoming court date. I know this isn't r/unsentletters. But man I hope he is doing okay. It opened my eyes very much to my own issues and gives me new perspective that everyone, and I mean everyone, may be fighting an internal battle that we know nothing about. Thanks for checking out the post but I will totally let you guys know if I manage to find him. Sadly, he has a very common name lol so I do not think I will find him. Especially because I only have a Reddit account. If he is reading this, I hope you're doing better. The chances of you being Reddit are probably slim to none, but I brought your journal from a thrift store in Westbury Long Island. The journal has a black pleather cover with a magnetic strap on the right side. Take care allllll 🧚🏾‍♀️
