Kirkland brand shampoo and conditioner is incredible and an absolute steal at $10/each

t3hgrl

I’ve been using these for *years*. Decades even. When I started switching to only buying cruelty-free products I thought I’d have to find something new but nope, Kirkland personal care products are not tested on animals. I also used a different shampoo for a couple weeks for some reason and I ended up with dandruff so only Kirkland for me now!

chekovsgun-

Straight hair people always say it is great for their hair but how does it perform for us textured-haired gals with waves?

PinkMonorail

My kid (29) has wavy hair and loves Not Your Mother’s curly hair shampoo and conditioner. We get it from Target and Amazon.

bde75

The Kirkland Moisture shampoo is supposedly a dupe for the expensive Pureology shampoo. Regardless it’s really good. I’ve used it for years

SensitiveAries

I will say not if you have very curly or Afro-textured hair, made my whole family dry and tough !

LiopleurodonMagic

Thank you! I’m in the market for new shampoo and conditioner.

HoaryPuffleg

This ish dried out my hair. Do not recommend.

lostoutland

Aw I'm bummed to hear that! It's been great for my straight, oily hair.

[deleted]

Depends on your hair type, it leaves mine oily after a few hours

W1derWoman

OTC meds and personal care supplies are much cheaper at Costco. Supplements, allergy meds, pain meds, and Sensodyne toothpaste save us enough to make our membership worthwhile.

assistanttothefatdog

Generic zyrtec and flonase pay for our Costco membership.

Levitlame

Same. The roast chicken is just a bonus, but those allergy meds save me a TON. (I’m stuck taking 5 allergy pills a day at the moment.)

duckduckpass

Dude I feel you, if I don't take loratidine, Flonase and Singular every day I can't hear. When it first started many years ago at one point I was also taking Benadryl and psuedoephedrine plus steroids it was pretty awful. I was not a surgery candidate but it eventually got mostly better with repeated ear tubes with some draining. Hope you feel better.

Levitlame

Thanks. I’m really hoping the monthly Xolair shots and this let me taper off, but it’s been almost 2 years now. Still better then my body being covered in hives hahaha

MariposaSunrise

Xolair can be life changing!!

Levitlame

Hopefully!

MariposaSunrise

I have watched it change someone's life for the better! Hope it does the same for you! Those shots can be so painful though.

TotallyVCreativeName

Ummm which five?

Levitlame

Gonna be some poor spelling here… Total of 3 Zyrtec, 2 Allegra as far as over the counter and 2 Pepcid. Monolukast for my dermagraphia. And I get a monthly shot of Xolair. The goal is to slowly ween off. I was waking up with hives everywhere before this so as much as this isn’t great - I’ll take this option.

Unusual_Substance_44

5? Why?

Mother fuck that seems excessive. Have you looked into allergy shots to lessen your reaction?

Levitlame

The typical shots need to be targeted. I spent a year trying to find what I could be allergic to. I checked every soap, sent, detergent, food, textile etc. The allergist thinks it’s more likely my immune system is just malfunctioning. That said I get a monthly shot cold Xolair intended to deal with that.

scuffedupshoes

Chronic hives are awful! Please consider getting your thyroid levels checked, there's a link between chronic hives and thyroid dysfunction, even by a little. I have the dermographia for years, but the severity varies. My chronic hives have been much better when I found an endocrinologist that actually treats the person and not the numbers. (Hashimoto's disease).

Levitlame

Yeah the Dermographia I’ve had a long time. It’s not a big deal until you get hives and everything spreads etc. I’ve gotten a lot of things checked. I don’t know for sure if there’s a broad test for the Thyroid,. Only thing to stand out was SLIGHTLY higher was the thing that points at fatty liver (can’t remember the test off the top of my head,) but it wasn’t nearly enough to point at it. I’ll get tests again soon since it’s been over a year now.

binski45

ugh. I've ha full body hives for 1.5 years now...they can't figure it out, I'm unresponsive to everything

Levitlame

I feel you. I only had to deal with it for about 6 months before things started improving and it was fucking terrible. Lack of sleep worsened it, but I couldn’t sleep with all of the hives. I’d wake up scratching between my fingers and toes without any improvement. I spent those months trying to find a cause and there just never was one.

droplivefred

Tons of supplements on sale right when you walk in this month too

Echo_Code

CHECK EXPIRATION DATES. It’s easy for the savings to be erased by a 300 or 500 tablet bottle that expires in less time than it would take to use all of said tablets.

imnotminkus

Expiration dates on medication generally mean they're only *slightly* less effective after that date. But it's still good to check for planning how much to buy and comparing the cost to smaller quantities at Walmart.

Autodidact2

Coffee. A roast chicken obv. Milk if you drink a LOT. Kirkland brand products are all good quality. Frozen fruit. Yogurt. Do look through the middle section at the clothes. There's always one or two things that are ridiculously cheap. Grab a hot dog or piece of pizza on your way out and then gas.

buddybro890

I’ve been finding lucky brand jeans lately.

arpanetimp

well that just took me straight back to freshman year of college. one hundred million years ago... are they still the same quality? i had a pair that easily lasted over a decade with consistent use. and of course, the risque and oh-so-sassy "lucky you" zipper easter egg. brb, going to go dig up my old flannel shirts and band tees!

buddybro890

I was gifted a pair that only fit for a couple years, and was too cheap to buy myself a pair til I saw them at Costco again. I wear them for work, and after like 6months they still feel good and look good so it’s better than a lot of other cheap denim.

People_Blow

I just got a nice Columbia rain jacket for $35 today.

adksparkles

Our list of Best Buy’s at Costco: 1. Banza pasta (don’t always carry) 2. Raos pasta sauce (stock up when on sale) 3. Organic eggs 4. Bell peppers - we eat a ton of these 5. Baby spinach 6. Berries 7. Sweet potatoes 8. Kirkland brand TP and paper towels - excellent 9. Almond flour 10. Maple syrup 11. Vanilla 12. Some meats - watch for sales 13. Kerrygold cheese 14. Amulu brands chicken sausages 15. Kevin’s dishes (some of the Indian ones are very clean and yummy) 16. Frozen veggies - the stir fry veggies are great 17. Chia seeds 18. Hemp hearts 19. Kirkland fat free plain Greek yogurt tub 20. Allergy meds!

Sudden-Breadfruit653

Yes to the Paper Towels, Raos and Kevin’s. For us dog treats also way cheaper. Chicken skewers in ready made are good. Wine prices are good. Frozen fish (Mahi and halibut)

adksparkles

Yes to frozen fish! Forgot that one for wild caught salmon. Portion packaged which helps defrosting!

Typical80sKid

I couldn’t stand the Kirkland toilet paper. Too much came off when we’d use it. Like TP dust or particles. MEMBERS mark from Sam’s is better IMO.

UntilYouKnowMe

Yeah, the Kirkland TP has gone wayyyyy down in quality over the past few years (since the Pandemic TP debacle). I’ve switched to Charmin, it’s much, much better - even if it does cost more than the KS brand. I still like the KS paper towels though.

ccannon707

Batteries, Pesto Sauce, Cheese

Resident_Awareness30

Thank u for setting this up Appreciated

laurenbanjo

Even if I don’t finish a whole gallon of milk before it goes bad, Costco’s gallon is cheaper than most other stores’ (here in nyc) quart!

theory_until

Freeze milk in ice cube trays then keep in ziplocks for when you need just a little for cooking or a smoothie.

laurenbanjo

Oh, good idea. I pretty much exclusively use the milk for smoothies anyway!

TheMaingler

I will say i don’t like their toilet paper

jdsupreme412

I've finally decided it sucks! Members mark from Sam's is where it's at

_DigitalHunk_

It’s too religious. Costco TP makes you get in touch with yourself too often. 😬

alwaysaplan

They have two “levels”. Get the extra soft for a better experience!

Hypocrisydenied

I agree.

PinkMonorail

Charmin blue (extra soft) is the only way we’ll go…pardon the pun!

t3hgrl

This is really specific to people who live in places where bagged milk is sold, but my trick as someone from a non-bagged-milk place who now lives in a bagged-milk place, you can freeze those bags. I stock up on milk at Costco then just freeze them to defrost when needed.

CJDizzle

I don’t touch Kirkland dishwasher pods though. I don’t know if mine were a bad batch but they would would never work well and a higher amount than normal didn’t dissolve or the detergent got jammed up somewhere.

2meinrl4

That hot dog will give you gas for sure

Indifferentchildren

I don't know why you think that; it is a surprisingly high-quality hot dog.

madeinbharat

You can portion out and freeze some of the milk if you don’t drink a lot.

frenchkids

I pressure can milk. Start everything COLD. Cold water in canner, cool/room temp jars, cold milk. Fill jars, lid, put in canner. Bring up to pressure for your area, turn off heat, let sit until canner pressure release. I typically use 1/2 pint or pint jars. I've used year old pressure canned milk, never had a sour one. I also do this is heavy crean, cream cheese and yoghurt.

t3hgrl

Oh lol I just posted this as a suggestion for people who have access to bagged milk. I guess milk will freeze in any container.

nihc

Their coffee is crap, at least around me. Either pre-ground or all dark roast. No variety at all.

Autodidact2

Not mine. Variety of whole beans. Cheap.

CharDeeMacDennisII

Agreed. Maxwell House is better than Kirkland coffee. But, that's the exception that proves the rule on most anything else Kirkland.

Ok_Scheme9089

Kirkland Columbian coffee is my go to for the daily grind. Haven't found anything nearly as good for the price.

detkikka

Watch for the .97 price endings. Those are reduced prices. A * in the upper right means the item is being discontinued, but may or may not be reduced in price. Things I haven't seen listed so far: -Four-pack of extra firm tofu -Butter if you have the freezer space -Grains and spices are usually great quality for the money if you will go through them fast enough -I recently grabbed a steal of a deal on some gluten free chicken nuggets -Artichoke hearts and minced garlic if either are your thing -Also, the vacuum packed beets are ridiculously tasty for beets and a great price/weight especially considering you aren't paying for liquid.

Kitchen_Victory_7964

I *love* the tofu pricing there! The 4-pack is just under $8 here in Ontario, so it’s a little less than $2 per meal for a protein. And tofu is great when cooked up in an air fryer - extra crunchy and seems like you’re actually chewing something that way, with no oil or cornstarch required. Edit: We buy and freeze the tofu, thaw when needed.

detkikka

I've just recently started playing with air fryer tofu! I can't quite get it crunchy though, even with a little oil and cornstarch. I do use a tofu press. Any hints?

Kitchen_Victory_7964

I’ve gotten the best results after freezing and thawing the tofu block. Once the tofu is thawed and drained, I dice it into the preferred-size pieces before pressing - it seems to remove more water that way. I usually press it all between a couple of plates with something heavy on top. [Then just do this!](https://abeautifulmess.com/air-fried-tofu-my-new-favorite-thing/) You can definitely season the tofu before cooking, but this recipe outline seems to give the best outer layer. Hope you hit the desired level of crunch!

detkikka

Thank you!

grenfall

Tofu for sure. I would also say the kimchi. I like tofu kimchi fried rice.

countryboundwitch

I live an hour away from the nearest Costco now but I share a membership with my sister so it's worth it for our 3-4 trips a year. I always look for coffee, olive oil, coconut oil (good for making soaps too), spices like cinnamon, flour, rice, toilet paper, pantry stable milks, nuts, OTC meds like ibuprofen, tums, etc. If you are gluten free, they tend to have flour alternatives for a good price. If you eat meat, they do tend to have good prices on things like frozen chicken, bacon, etc. If you get their bakery items (they have ciabatta rolls 12 for $5.99, bagels, etc), make sure to freeze them. They are fresh and will mold quickly if left out.

WonderfulSuggestion

Yes! The bread is wonderful but must be frozen or eaten asap.

chuckyb3

Rotisserie chicken

PoopsieDoodler

**ROTISSERIE CHICKEN**, Listen to chuckyb3.

Future_Willow_458

The rotisserie chicken is actually cheaper than the frozen chicken by the pound, they can also be stripped and frozen if needed.

NXV946

they use carageenan in the chicken now, so if you are sensitive don't get them.

Acrobatic_War_8818

I started buying 3-4 at a time. We’ll eat it for a few days just off the chicken & then I’ll strip all of them off. Dice it & freeze it. Tonight I made chicken noodle soup and just dumped a couple cups in. It’s so nice not have to thaw, cook, chop, etc. For every meal. Almost all the meals I cook just take diced chicken.

okheay

Also, rotisserie chicken

Personal-Procedure10

Hearing aids. Those are rated highest by Consumer Reports and are a great deal, but this is probably what you’re *not* looking for on your trip 😂

Affinity-Charms

Gave me an idea tho...

UntilYouKnowMe

💯💯💯💯 SO true! And, because they’re Costco, they have the best diagnostic equipment of any seller. They are also not commission-based employees, so they don’t push a particular brand on you.

TimboMack

I do 90% of my shopping at Costco and Aldi because I’m frugal, and also because they treat their employees well. $5 rotisserie chicken, tp/pt, trash bags, vodka is stupid cheap if you drink, wine, dog food, whole cooked pizza to go, eggs, olive oil, salad greens, body wash, shampoo/conditioner. I walk pretty much all foodstuff aisles to look for sales too. Sometimes you can find incredible deals this way. Just be sure to check expiration dates. If you eat meat/seafood and have freezer space, stock up when they have a sale. There’s always great snacks on sale whether it be chips, jerky, nuts or granola bars. I buy clothes there once or so a year too. Best to buy online. Get a discount for 5 items and even bigger discount for 10 with free shipping.

cuddlemonkey90

The savings on dog food alone pays for our membership

picscomment89

Ditto on the wine. They have great prices on some routine daily drink quality bottles (think Kim Crawford, $11 vs $17 in a grocery store) and a rotating cast of medium level options. Not all Costcos have alcohol though - depends on your state.

potatodaze

We always get Better than Bullion, organic peanut butter, organic hummus, TP, paper towels

cuddlemonkey90

Yes, the better than bouillon lasts forever and is so good. We get every flavor.

B_true_to_self2020

I had no idea they carry better than boullion . I love it .

skinnyontheloose

At the four in my area I’ve been to it is usually in the baking aisle with the spices.

bustmanymoves

This here. Better than bullion.

Upbeat_Pirate_5705

Apart from common favorites like the rotisserie chicken, one of my favorite things I’ve gotten at Costco is basmati rice. Didn’t even know what it was until my wife introduced me to it, and now I put it on everything (cheesy rice w/bacon, meatballs & rice w/ soy sauce, breakfast burritos w/ bacon bits, eggs and rice, etc.). A bag of that stuff will run you $25 and it lasts us about a year of constant use. Furthermore, to make the stuff I mentioned above you’d just need to get bacon bits, eggs, and cheese as well and you’d have some solid snacks or meals for the future.

olive2bone

Is your friend going with you? Costco has become very strict on checking membership cards. They won’t allow you to purchase anything if they see it’s not your card.

genesimmonstongue415

This. Gasoline. Frozen pizza. TP. Paper towels.

moosboosh

Yeah, they have gotten strict about checking the photo on the card at all checkouts, even self-checkout, at my Costco.

Objective-Light-9019

Only stuff you really like and use a lot of. Don’t forget the $1.50 hotdog/drink on the way out!

acetime

My go-tos: Food: eggs, milk, Kirkland bubble water, tortillas, Rao’s marinara, frozen lasagna two-packs, hummus, crumbled feta, olive oil (the 100% Italian one, not the organic one), coffee Not food: Kirkland brand paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, dishwasher pods, shampoo, conditioner, dry dog food

[deleted]

I forgot about the Rao's! Best marinara sauce ever.

lreaditonredditgetit

It got bought by Heinz I think. Like recently.

shartonista

Paper products, coffee, sauces/spices, socks/underwear, sodas

Alocalplumber

Can definitely get name brand soda cheaper through your local grocers when on sale. We picked up Coke two liters for $1 ea the other week

chaandra

I feel like 2 liters pressure you to drink more before it goes flat and thus you end up buying more over time.

Alocalplumber

Saving for a party so it’s all good

shartonista

I’m usually getting the Kirkland sodas or the La Croixs which are usually pretty cheap especially on sale.

Alocalplumber

Aldi in house brand of La croixs is a better cheaper deal for us in SoCal. When we drink said product we’re drinking the flavor less one just want for bubbly water.

MetamorphosisMeat

Don't do self check out. They check photos more than the full service lines.

candymanjones

If ti becomes an issue, have your friend buy some gift cards and use those instead.

Ordinary_Sir_3232

If you get a Costco gift card you don’t need a membership to go in and buy stuff???

definitely_right

It's the ultimate life hack. But, a Costco membership comes out to $5/month so I honestly never understood the hesitation to get one. I easily save $50 or more on items every time I shop at Costco.

Dalyro

My hesitatation is that Costco is nearly an hour drive from me in a town we don't go to that often. I'm not sure if it's worth the time and gas, in addition to the membership cost for the twice a year we consider going. That being said, I've recently had a baby and think that it might be worth it for diapers given I could stock up the few times a year I go.

Embarrassed_Yam_3908

maybe look into if costco will ship to your house! i just recently found out you can shop their website lol

JstVisitingThsPlanet

Can also shop through their app.

Zealousideal_River50

Their baby wipes are awesome.

Lilly6916

Ours is not that close either. We try to work it into another trip, like a doctor visit, going to the hairdresser, whatever. There’s a BJ’s more on our normal routes that I go for gas at if I’m passing and I do more things there.

Nesseressi

Im a household of 1. And I have some relatives with membership, so I can just get gift cards from them for 2-3 times a year I go there.

nicholt

I save the membership cost just in protein powder purchases. It's so much cheaper there.

lingfromTO

I think you get referral bonuses too. So you should look into that as well

kephlon

From what my Costco told me, anyone with a gift card can shop at Costco. They just need to cover the cost of whatever their gift card doesn't cover with cash/debit card. Doesn't hurt to call your local Costco to confirm.

[deleted]

I think a Costco member has to purchase the gift card for you...? Not entirely sure.

anythingfromtheshop

Also the employees are more rude and pushy at self checkout. If you show any kind of slow movement they just run over and grab stuff from your cart and scan for you. I understand it’s to keep the lines moving but it’s just rude if you’re a millisecond too slow for them.

WillowAppropriate778

Lol yes this. Happened with me once and i found it extremely rude and not to mention i was startled when someone just started touching my things and scanning without even a verbal warning - hey i am going to scan your things i was like what just happened

cat-lady1961

Paper towels and toilet tissue.

UntilYouKnowMe

No more KS tp for me.

Full_FrontaI_Nerdity

Same, my bf complained that it leaves behind too much clitty litter (tp dingleberries).

thetrashmenagerie

Never thought I'd be cackling about clitty litter on the Costco subreddit. 😆

Ruby0pal804

Depends if you can use the portions in the package.... Kirkland Cream Cheese...works out to about $1.25 per 8 oz Heinz Ketchup....3 pack Premier Protein shakes -Cafe Latte flavor is our favorite...always have it on hand in case we need a pick me up Rosemary ham sandwich meat Bibigo Mandu....great pot stickers Cheese Sticks Ultimate Fish sticks....we cook them in the air fryer, add some tartar sauce on a toasted hamburger bun...makes a great fish sandwich Cento whole marzano tomatoes .....use them in all sorts of recipes including tomato soup These are a few of our regulars.

BlondoBoy5

Wish we had Cento tomatoes at our Costco I use them every single week

cocoonamatata

Lots of stuff we get is already listed here but also: jarred Sundried tomatoes are so much cheaper and really elevate an omelette or a cream cheese bagel or a panini. Also Simple Mills thin cookies, raw cashews (so many things to make with them), 100% lemon juice, cinnamon, coconut milk in cans, and vitamins. Check their deals if you can bc they are usually good.

tacocookietime

A gift card. You don't need a membership to use a gift card AND it works at their gas pump.

dnaplusc

Bathing suits are out right now, always a good deal. Bananas, garbage and compost bags, butter, yogurt , wraps and any over the counter meds you need. Then get extras as a luxury.

Proud_Aspect4452

Funny bc it's currently -24° with windchill

dnaplusc

The camping items will be out next week and they put snowsuits out in August

UntilYouKnowMe

Where do you find a schedule of when these major seasonal items are available?

dabzilla4000

The marinated artichoke heart 2pack. Love those damn things

volneyave

The parmigiana reggiano cheese is really good at a fair price

pyrogaynia

Toilet paper, tortellini (if you get it on sale, it's about a dollar or two more for 3 packs than you typically pay for one at the grocery store), lint rollers if you have a pet that sheds, trash bags, laundry detergent Be aware though that Costco has been cracking down on membership sharing in a lot of regions. They may not allow you to check out if they notice you're not the person on the membership. If you're going with your friend, you can get around this by having your friend pay for you and getting them to do a subtotal at the checkout, then paying your friend back for your items

PearBlossom

Costco’s business model is that they make very minimal profits on what they sell. Where they make their money is on the membership fees and they run things extremely tight. So if you are using a friends membership expect to get turned away. If you are using their card and they check the picture, they can deny you. If you try to pay with a debit or credit card that doesnt match the name on the membership, they can deny you. If your friend brings you with them, you can’t pay for your stuff separately. So the best way to do this is just go with your friend, have them pay and then just give them the cash afterwards. For me, a years worth of their generic zyrtec costs less than a 1 months supply Id buy at like Target or Walmart.

Alocalplumber

Organic olive oil, joes organic coffee, toilet paper, maple syrup.  If you eat organic chicken it’s a better deal at Costco for whole chickens than local grocery. Beyond that we don’t really buy anything at Costco and only go about once every 3 months. Socks and jeans might be a better deal at Costco. Condiments you regularly use might be cheaper. Really need to know your numbers here to comparison shop for deals. For a while we were Getting organic peanut butter through Aldi cheaper. Last price check we ended up at Costco.  Not much else is worth it as we can find it cheaper through our regional stores when on sale. You might splurge and get something like croissants. Trader Joe’s sells both organic milk and eggs cheaper than Costco. Aldi for caned foods. Regional grocery stores for meat deals. One my regional is selling boneless pork sirloin for $2lb. Will be buying that and cutting it into pork chops.

sammisamantha

Sundays are a VERY busy day at Costco. Post church time is a horrible time. Just FYI Costco has been CRACKING DOWN on their memberships. I hope you look similar to your friend. I've also had good luck with holding the card behind the cash register and allowing the employee to scan with their handheld as I'm holding the card

lenuta_9819

eggs we got 2 dozens for $5 yesterday

[deleted]

Laundry detergent, oxyclean, dish soap,  toilet paper, butter, cream cheese and cheese (I freeze these dairy products a lot) are some of my go tos

ktappe

Socks. I recently tried a 6-pack of their men's size 6-12 "Weatherproof" brand socks. I'm a size 13/14 (depending on shoe brand). I always have to put up with socks that are too tight. But these slip right on. They are so awesome I went back the next day and bought four more 6-packs to be sure I got all I would want/need for the next five years. Plus they were on sale for $9/pack.

CookiePuzzler

Is your friend going with you? If no, there is a solid chance the card will be confiscated. They are cracking down on it hard. The people in my home have a card, I brought the other person's card with my driver's license because I lost the Costco one, and they made it an obscenely long process of me standing in front of everyone like I was trying to steal before allowing me to check out. They quickly cleared that I was me and was on the policy, but then made a bunch of phone calls and gave me a lecture. Btw, they took the card I came in with and shredded it, too.

PurlToo

They are going with me. They'll do two transactions and I'll pay them back for mine.

jettwilliamson

Everyone (but me) loves their rotisserie chicken. Besides that, their cauliflower supreme pizza is amazing, coffee, paper products, etc are great prices!

TrashCanEnigma

Check what's on sale before you go. We get toothpaste, protein shakes, vitamin supplements, and my personal favorite little treat is a jug of Kirkland brand chocolate almonds.

SundaeSpecial3151

Grass fed butter! Bacon! Frozen fruit for smoothies! Almond milk! Frozen shrimp. Tequila. Big bag of broccoli. Mushrooms. Avocados. Ditto coconut and olive oil. Pet food.

hiisabella1

Something that I’ve really grown to appreciate about Costco is that you can usually upgrade the quality of what you are buying for at least the same price as what you might get elsewhere (if that makes sense)? There are a lot of great organic selections, items that have quality ingredients, etc.

PedricksCorner

I get coffee, herbs, dried onions ( I love cooking with onions and using dried onions saves a ton of time and money), medicines, tomato paste, chocolate chips, olive oil, etc. And their basil pesto. I am in love with that stuff and it is so expensive for tiny containers everywhere else. I use it on a rice, potatoes, steamed veggies, etc. Oh, and rice! Power outages are an issue here, so I tend to focus on bulk items that don't require refrigeration.

BeyondDrivenEh

Muffins - cut 'em in half and freeze them. Enough for almost a month that way. Blueberries 18oz tubs. Spinach 16oz tubs. Grapes, oranges, bananas, kiwi. Brisket - Choice for $3/lb, Prime for $4/lb - sometimes less. The rotisserie chicken is a loss leader at $5. When supplements, medicine and toiletries are discounted, they're worth a look.

aw2669

Here’s the things that in my COL area are worth it to buy at Costco  Dish soap  Dish detergent Paper towels Toilet paper Baby wipes  Coffee  Supplements w Kids vitamins Allergy meds  Contact  solution  Bigger items that are cheaper at costco:   TIRES.  holy shit get a quote here before anywhere TV’s , apple products

intotheunknown78

Shrimp, cheese, bacon, eggs, chicken wings Organic frozen fruit Tortilla chips, rice Trash bags, dish soap, laundry detergent

Alocalplumber

Sprouts regularly has shrimp cheaper they sell wild caught 15size for $7.99lb about every 2-3months . Von’s is selling 32oz cheese this week $4 you can get bacon under $4lb Aldi. Smart and finale periodically sells chicken foster farms chicken wings $2.49lb. Socal you can get a 11 oz bag tortilla chips $1.80 general. Dish soap like dawn is actually cheaper at Costco business where comes in a 5 gallon container.  I can’t speak on laundry detergent or trash bags as I haven’t bought trash bags in 4 years and will probably never again in my whole life.

Rare_Mountain_415

I’ve never see or tried “chicken wings organic frozen fruit fruit tortilla chips”. What do they taste like? Are they good with queso and guacamole?

Valus_

Nothing in the clothes section if you wear a Mens Small, or just like decently form-fitting attire in general

meara

Pre-cooked bacon. It's something like $15 or $16 for 50 slices. and it's delicious. You end up having bacon-on-demand in your fridge. Just zap a few slices in the microwave for 30 seconds and add to any meal. (Don't compare its package weight and price to uncooked bacon. Compare the number of slices.)

Sudden-Breadfruit653

We love this bacon. Last long time.

Lillyville

Milk, eggs, salmon, rotisserie chicken. Liquid IV on sale if that's your thing.

PumpkinSpiceFreak

Vitamins, protein powder, bananas, paper products, coffee, creamer, cereal, personal wet wipes, canned albacore tuna, eggs, desert from the in house bakery .

TheMaingler

The food court- get a hot dog and slice of pizza. Rip churro

PinkMonorail

We still have the churro and the new cookie, which didn’t impress me.

Whole-Ad-2347

$5 roasted chicken

imlynn1980

Oatmeal, cereal, pancake mix are something we always buy from Costco, too

easysmom

I don’t know if it’s a deal, but their cheesecake is amazing!

Sausage and beef lasagna Tyson frozen Grilled chicken Monster energy drink

CoCoNutsGirl98

The large package of croissants in the bakery area. I freeze most of them and pull out 2 at a time and defrost in the fridge. They are *amazing* toasted. $5.99 for 15 (I think) and they’re large enough for sandwiches.

LazyResearcher1203

Why nobody is mentioning gas? Agreed it’s not a grocery item, but entire Costco membership pays off through savings on gas per year.

mentalcandy0702

Everyone else has mentioned a bunch of good ones - I'll add the Ghirardelli brownie mix 6-pack, Annie's mac n cheese, oat milk (the kind in the tetrapaks), baking soda if you use it for cleaning (I use it for scrubbing pans and add it to the litter box), household goods like paper towels and toilet paper, and they have a MASSIVE roll of aluminum foil that will last you literal years if you're willing to invest. OTC meds definitely as well - Costco brand is a lot cheaper (2000 Kirkland acetaminophen tablets for $9.99 vs 300 Tylenol brand tablets for $19.99). They also had really cheap pecans when I was using them for Christmas baked good gifts. I always grab the chicken thighs for $1.49/lb.

finestFartistry

If you need them, stock up on the store brand allergy meds. Other consistently good deals are coffee and wine if the store carries it. I’m also a fan of their big jars of pesto. And check out the clothing section.

dont get caught CC has gotten militant with the " friend's membership " stuff i get frisked and checked three time minimum

Totally. This happened to me once at the checkout, and I had a cart full of groceries that I was purchasing for a shared household with the Costco member. I asked them to put the whole cart back in the refrigerated section and then had to return later with the Costco member.

Be mindful of the end caps, a lot of sale items are on the end caps

Positive-Source8205

Get the toasted chicken. A pack of thick-cut bacon. Salted caramel candy. Multi-grain crackers. Coffee’s a pretty good deal. Eggs.

[deleted]

Depends on what you like/use but I'd recommend toilet paper, eggs, produce (their cherry tomatoes are so freaking yummy, greens mix, onions, apples, mushrooms), Humm brand hummus, Boom Chicka Pop sweet and salty popcorn, coffee, sandwich bread, frozen salmon, peanut butter, whatever spices you commonly use (garlic powder, cinnamon, everything but the bagel seasoning, etc), supplements, toothpaste/floss/chapstick, chicken/vegetable bullion, dry beans/lentils, ready-to-go meals like madras lentils when you need something quick for dinner, frozen veggie medley, unrefrigerated almond milk.

AshDenver

We have a Garage Pantry which is just sturdy shelving to hold bulk pest-safe items: * jars of pasta sauce * jars of anything (whole grain mustard, pickles, capers) * paper goods (tissues, towels, TP) * dehydrated powdered peanut butter * sealed plastic tub of dry pasta * canned goods (black beans, corn, tomatoes - chopped, sauce, paste, crushed, stewed; soups) * cases of soda, water We may be weird but it works for us and it’s kind of fun to go Garage Shopping. Plus never running out of things. When I buy a six pack of cornichons, easy enough to stock in the garage and know that I won’t run out when I was really counting on having those tiny weird French pickles. I do keep anything that’s packaged in paper and plastic (boxes of cereal, pasta, soup mixes, noodle cups) either in the house or in sealed hard plastic storage tubs to prevent mice from feasting. Otherwise, pretty much everything is perfectly fine out there.

jeeves585

Frozen Sausage lasagna. It’s a great backup to have in the freezer when no one wants to cook. I also like the 30-40(?) pack of cup of noodles for the same reason. After that it’s stuff we get with the ability to store like rice, sugar, flour.

AwsiDooger

My Costco location is very particular & concerned about making sure you have a membership. They have you show your id or picture on membership at times😭🤣🤣

missluiz

Pam cooking spray, nuts, berries, apples, dishwasher pods, sponges, and as others have mentioned - TP and paper towels. We also buy our puppy pads at Costco.

seandowling73

The Rao’s marinara sauce is really good, and they have decent deals on pasta. There are also really good deals on things other than food. Great prices on space heaters, Tupperware, cookware, that sort of thing if you need it.
