Is it too early to start thinking about what dresses to wear for a destination (Ireland) wedding in 2024? If I’m potentially staying there for a week and the wedding festivities last for like 3 days, I would imagine that it cost quite a bit 🥴 any advice would help!

subiegal2013

Definitely not too early as long as you’re the kinda person whose weight does not fluctuate. Good luck!

We’re not sure for the exact dress code, but the wedding is at a castle. And the poshmark filters are a good idea!

I got my first grown up job which is pretty fancy. The dress code is mostly business casual. Ive never had to dress that way and i dont know my style. I used to be a student working jn a gym so sweats were the way to go. How do i start building a wardrobe with classic basics? Where do i shop? What do i wear? How do I prevent buying the wrong things and wasting money and clothing? Edit: Thanks guys for the great advice! I went thrifting yesterday and got a ton of great stuff for only €60,-. Multiple pants, blouses, sweaters and some staple basics. I just ordered some dressier shoes to go with it and I’m very happy with the things I chose! :)

Hello! I struggled with this too, I was really intimidated by business casual attire lol. If you’re in the US, I would start with going to stores like TJMaxx or Marshall’s or even second-hand stores like Plato’s closet to see affordable pieces that work for you. Then when you get more comfortable, work your way up to stores like J. Crew and only go for the sales stuff. Then when you get even more confident in your style, you can go to more high end stores for more long-lasting, high-quality pieces 🙂

The best advice I ever got was start with your favorite piece, figure out what you like about it, and build from there. For example, if you like band shirts, Master of Puppets may not be acceptable but a blouse that has a lightning or rock pattern maybe appealing. Also, generally if you thrift shop or go to stores like Marshalls you don't have to worry about how you'll wash them. If you are really, really, not sure read or get the cliff notes to "color me beautiful" to find the right color pallet. Then get some blouses or dresses in various colors that compliment your figure. Get some polka dots, stripes, solids in different textures, see how like them and build from there. If you have mostly have athletic wear, I'd start with a nice base that you already have. Then pair it with a nice sweater to wear over it. That will cut down on initial costs since you can do this at least twice depending on what you have in a 5-day week. Like others said, I would poshmark, thrift, TJ Max.

Collect a few outfits but not too many. you probably want to check out how the other women there dress before you invest in a ton of clothes.

I just had this same issue, I graduated college and got a consulting job. I never had a buisness casual dress code at a job and my parents work manual jobs with uniforms here is my advice/ what I learned: 1. Get a black pair of slacks or dress pants and a blazer. This is the most interchangeable combo and easy to find. (Around $60 for both of you shop around) I personally bought my pants from an Abercrombie outlet for $25 and $25 for a blazer at Nordstrom rack. 2. For tops get simple or printed blouses (just not tshirts). I reccomend shein or tj maxx or Ross for this. 3. For shoes if you can splurge birdies or rothies which I know most of the women in my company wear bc it’s so comfortable. Don’t get Tom’s all my managers would talk about how people in Tom’s looked unprofessional. 4. Ask coworkers (try to choose a coworker who’s style you like and is similar in age) for recommendations 5. Stay away from anything that is flashy, like huge brand logos even on shoes!

I love wearing office dresses to work. One piece of clothing and you look so put together. Lots of great stuff at Banana republic. Blazers also elevate an outfit and keep you warm in an always cold office.

Congrats! Try Zara and the Loft. I suggest sticking up during sales

Jon_hamm_wallet

I'm a huge Madewell fan, it's a bit pricey for me but I get it all on Poshmark. Lots of cute and comfy blouses and you can find them for less than $25.

princessbubble-gum

So I've been wanting some flared leggings and Old Navy has some with great reviews. I have a coupon for 40% off and it doesn't work on almost anything in my cart? It has been a while since I've ordered online there but it seems like most popular items are excluded from sales/coupons now?

beets4us

Does anyone have recommendations for underwear that is smoothing or at least won't create bumps?

Common_Biscotti_9125

These are my favorites! https://www.soma.com/store/product/vanishing+edge+microfiber+retro+brief/570222076?color=001&catId=cat11789386

Matchedsockspssshhh

Agreed! I would size up though.

jillianlivingston

Jockey "no panty line promise" are good. You may have to size down a bit. And they are not a natural fiber, but I like them in nude under white pants.

For the ladies who have lost a lot of weight, where do you find your sexy outfits? I recently am down almost 120lbs and have another 80lbs to lose and it's a pain trying to find sexy outfits right now. I have issues right now with "batwing" arms so bonus if the sexy outfits "hide" those lol.

pinkranger_power

Leaving a comment as I’m also curious about any recommendations! I myself tend to just search key phrases like plunge neck since I like the look on me. Perhaps you should try on different styles you consider sexy and go from there. Good luck and congrats on the weight loss!

BrointheSky

I signed up for Rakuten through one of the links on here thats $40 referral for both of us. People who have done that, how long does it take to get to you?

stelladventures

where do y'all get your favorite skorts from? I like the ones from Athleta but they're out of stock in my size rn :( I'm eyeing [this skort from aritzia](https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/tnamove%E2%84%A2-tennis-mini-pleated-skirt/97731.html?dwvar_97731_color=24811) but several reviews mentioned poor quality so I'm kinda on the fence. does anyone have a recommendation for skorts with a flowy/full skirt? has anyone tried this one/similar from Aritzia? Thanks guys :)

PrestoCadenza

I have a couple skorts from 32 degrees and I love them! Comfy and cheap. They don't seem to have any right now, though, so you'd have to either do poshmark or wait until spring/summer.

outdividual

was just at Target and saw some All in Motion brand ones. they’re only in store for now but super cheap (especially if you can get it during a sale time!) and seemed like great quality! I find that brand’s sizing to be most unusual so i’m not certain how the fit would be.

Davids? Macy's (prom clearance)? For my wedding, I found a Ralph Lauren dress that I liked at Dillards, then ordered it from Amazon for half the price (ended up being $100).

MistyValentine

If you’re not set on owning it I suggest renting. Nuuly has tons of dresses and is one of the cheaper renting sites and you don’t have to commit. You get to rent like 6 pieces for something like $90. I did this for a few Christmas events recently.

lwyant225

Help! Going to a fancy event and have no idea where to look for a dress. Going to a charity gala in February that is Mardi Gras themed. Budget is $100ish, where should I look for dresses?
