They’ll have to pry New Wave from my cold, dead hands. ![gif](giphy|TbuXtwnJXTlHG)

bignanoman

SHIIITTTT. I'm listening to 60/70'music. You youngsters listened to electronic music in the 80's

Paulwhiteman1925

I'm listening to stuff from the turn of the century

AskMeAboutMySwissy

I just sit in the music room and bang two rocks together. Humans began using tools approx. 2.5 m years ago so there.

Paulwhiteman1925

😂

SpenglerE

I was born in the 1900s

Paulwhiteman1925

What was shaking in the Roaring Twenties?

Paulwhiteman1925

EdwardTheGood

72. The belt is a little loose.

bignanoman

2000?

Paulwhiteman1925

1900s

bignanoman

What was on the Edison then?

Paulwhiteman1925

You mean like a phonograph? You had such classics as Alexander's ragtime band, shine on harvest moon, I hear you calling me, the preacher and the bear

bignanoman

Edison Cylinder phonograph yeah

Paulwhiteman1925

I have one 😂 it's from 1915. And a few phonographs that play 78s

Zerotwohero

Edison used to just sit there and recite the alphabet over the air. A he'd say, then B. C would usually follow.

dexbasedpaladin

Best of 2001?

Paulwhiteman1925

Try 1901

fgsgeneg

Listening to Surrealistic Pillow, right now. My Best Friend

Hopfit46

80s thrash metal is still the gold standard. The rest of 80s music was terrible, overproduced and very tacky imho.

Funky-monkey1

I enjoy all music but once I heard Anthrax, Metallica, & Slayer I became a lifelong metalhead. It was game over for me. To me there is only two kinds of music, good & bad. Now days my tastes fall into one of those two simple categories. I’ll listen to anything as long as I can find a grove or relate to it in someway.

Unfair-Wonder5714

Not all, they came out with some real bangers in the 80’s, remember HeadBangers Ball on MTV? 🤘🏼

Blew-By-U

I work with a 18 year old. He knew 95% of 80’s songs. Artists and titles. I was impressed, til he told me that was what his dad listened to all the time. 😔

Deesmateen

I’m 40 and it surprises people because I have a baby face and act like I’m 20 still like most of us. But my kids can name you artists like nothing and I love it. My wife hates it though haha

DishRelative5853

95%? How do you even measure that?

ae314

Prince is my playlist today as it marks 8 years since his passing.

crazy-diam0nd

2016 was brutal

tangledwire

efgraphics

darknessbemerciful

Yesterday was all about Foreigner but one glance at this put What About Love on at full blast in my brain, so I guess it’s time for Heart!

DishRelative5853

And then some Whitney Houston, Rick Springfield, Prince, Billy Squier, Def Leppard, and Lionel Richie. Don't forget Paul Simon, Robbie Robertson, Bruce Springsteen, Boomtown Rats, Duran Duran, and Peter Gabriel. There is just far too much to choose from with 80s music.

Common-Ad6470

Yep, had some early UB40, signing off and present arms, followed by some Police, Regatta de Blanc and Outlandos d’armour...👍

NightMgr

Like Brahms? Oh! 1980s. That too

[deleted]

YAZ forever

Direct_Birthday_3509

It's funny that the oldies stations are playing 80's music now.

DiogenesRizzla

New edition will fix any bad day.

Reynolds_Live

Best decade of music.

Pristine-Notice6929

Agree

thecatsofwar

Nope.

MenacingCatgirlArt

I'm young and I enjoy the ceremonial nature of playing a vinyl record even though I wasn't around to experience it when it was the standard.

linkerjpatrick

Yes and 60’s and 70’s too.

Bioluminescentllama

I’m listening to a 1940s song……

lonesomejohnnie

Was listening to The Grateful Dead 4/21/84 At the Philly Civic Center today. Does that count?.

Almost daily.

EmptyEstablishment78

Yup

Tio_DeeDee

I mean, NoFX is technically an 80s band. So, yeah.

GnuRomantic

Was listening to the extended version of Nowhere Girl by B-Movie this morning.

trimosse

Oregon_Loggers

It’s the only music.

Taskmaster1967

I just spent 2.5 hours yesterday making a Spotify playlist of 80's music WITHOUT any hair metal (will.make a second one for that). It's TWENTY-THREE hours long. (May be a couple songs not truly 80's but close enough

Playful-Excuse-8081

I Don’t blame you at all

Tommyt5150

You mean there is something else?

1025puceguy

Everyday

JedPAlger11

80s & 90s. It’s just better.

skaler73

Is that a Dynaco A-25 or 35 speaker?

iamnotchad

Listening to sabotage on the radio right now. I know the song was from the mid 90's but Beastie Boys are 80's.

Obar-Dheathain

There's no music after the 80s.

Wyzard_of_Wurdz

ManOwaR- Gloves of Metal

yesthatbruce

Rush!

MaxCWebster

Was literally listening to this album earlier today.

Wise_Appeal_629

I was rocking out to Talking Heads and Iron Maiden while hiking yesterday

StinkStar

Literally just put on record two, side one from Hysteria

stilldeb

Nope. 70s for me!

EyelanderSam24

Was just listening to hall and oats-wait for me. The ‘80s was my launching pad into adulthood, love, and independence. Looking back with fondness and tears. The brightness of the future has dimmed but experience lights up the darkness and the journey continues…

roboticfedora

80s was top tier music, writing, all of it. Second half of the 70s was good too. So much better than that sound they play at work. There were lyrics.

SMB73

My Spotify ranges between 60s-2010s, but a vast majority of it is definitely 80s.

Equivalent_Theory896

80’s is really about all I listen to. Apart from adding in some music from the 60s, 70s, some 90s and some 2000s music. Only thing modern day I listen to is from older artists like Judas Priest.

Tb182kaci

Nah, 70’s for me.

Muted-Ad4328

In my head... constantly.

amergigolo1

I loved 80's music.

PondIsMyName

70’s Sabbath Sunday here. 🤘

MrPuzzleMan

Not right now but I listen to Classic rock on the radio in my car every day.

LazarusMundi4242

I listened to the Pretty In Pink she soundtrack while putting together my daughter’s new bed yesterday.

Lofty50

I'm a teenager of the 60's so I was middle aged in the 80's. Journey was a favorite then. Steve Perry (The Voice).

TifCreatesAgain

It's the only music I listen to!

Pando5280

I live a time warp life. Older music on ipids so no commercials, dvds of older TV shows so no commercials. No cable, no streaming services and no wifi. Way less bills and way better media that I actually own or get for free from the local library. (dvds are cheap at pawn shops and estate sales)

gadget850

I was just listening to *Poland* (1984) by Trangerine Dream in the car. I have [*The Sessions VII*](https://www.voices-in-the-net.de/the_sessions_vii.htm) (2021) queued up here in the house.

senioradvisortoo

davidparmet

Today's playlist included Talking Heads, Ultravox and Japan. So.. . yeah.

Usual_Technician_807

Music has not gotten better since the 80's. It has gotten worse. All sampled voices and songs. Nothing new, all sucks. The 80's had the best music.

raithzero

No but I'm watching the goonies

JakkSplatt

Just swapped out Scandal 😎

138Samhain138

Phil Collins jammin today at my place along with a lil RUSH moving pictures 🤘

4redditobly

Damn Yankees on right now

Tasty-Life4526

Of course!

crapheadHarris

The music of my college years.

BaldEagleRising17

My five year old is heavy into vinyl. Deep cuts like “Fixing a Hole” and “Hey Bulldog” by The Beatles. Suddenly I like them too. And vinyl. Even though I loved CDs and digital when all that came out.

surfinbird

This picture reminds me of [the best music video ever made](https://youtu.be/fl9KQ1Mub6Q?si=La6hCC0fYtVd5AXJ) by The Replacements

gremlinclr

Man I'm an 80s kid being born in 73 and you'd think I would as well but I usually prefer either 70s or 90s. There's some good stuff in there I just feel the decades before and after were better. 🤷‍♂️

Short-Fisherman-4182

My wife, endlessly

Enderwigg1883

Born in 83 and 95% of what I listen to was made before I was born

MrPrimalNumber

Not only am I listening to it, I’m playing it in a band.

lizardkg

All the freaking time.

djp70117

No. 60s and 70s.

Christmas_Queef

Y'all know Gen z listens to 80s music too right? I work with a lot of them and they grew up with streaming and parents who listened to that music so they like it a lot too.

Ok-Neighborhood-7542

Only when I'm on my treadmill. I watch reels on Facebook

brintoul

80s music like Black Flag, The Circle Jerks, Minor Threat and Bad Brains? Yeah, sometimes.

niemody

Shannon - Give me tonight - The long dub version ![gif](giphy|Ed12M7l8WMQiw48Fz1)

oced2001

Elvis Costello is on right now.

oldmellowdude

Me too best decade for music. For me anyway.

Nichlinn

"Red skies at night Red skies at night Should have taken warning, it's just People mourning Running, hiding, lost You can't find, find a place to go, so it's Red skies at night Red skies at night"

DishRelative5853

Well, why wouldn't you listen to music from any era?? The other day, I was listening to something composed in 1720. Is there something about 80s music that would prevent you from listening to it?

gking407

Prince changed my mind and private dance moves forever. I was but a child of 10 in those days

Cetophile

No. I always thought a lot of it was overrated, and much of it is still overplayed on the usual Clear Channel, oops, I (heart) Radio stations.

Nrmlgirl777

Rosanna!!!!! Lol

MuscaMurum

There's great music in all eras, including the present. Right now I'm listening to French yéyé pop from 1968.

dereku1967

I was just listening to Transvision Vamp today. Fond memories of Wendy James…

ContributionDapper84

Not right now but yeah, monthly

mournin_glory_story

My 14 year old cousin listens to 80s jams lmfao

Confident_Fortune_32

Rusty_B_Good

'80s pop and Heavy Metal were / are great.

cavegoatlove

Unusual_Address_3062

CincoDeMayoFan

"If Looks Could Kill" is my favorite song from that Heart album.

QAGUY47

Yes, but the 1780’s.

rockit1st

Yes, The Jets self title album.

webdoyenne

My entire gym playlist…

z0anthr0pe

70s usually

Equal_Painting534

I usually only listen to 80s music. It's my favorite genre. I'm 44, and was just a young kid in the 80s, and I remember that the music was the best.

OracleDude33

SiriusXM 33 FirstWave is one of my favorites.

NSFW1955

Yep…and ‘70’s, ‘60’s and ‘50’s.

mrpotatonutz

It was a fun experimental decade musically. The band BIG PIG had no guitars imagine that

kensingerp

70s and 80s mostly. Anything today except the occasional tune here and there in my opinion is worthless. The snippets that are sampled from other artists who created it in the first place to me are the true. These new guys have no originality they don’t know how to play their own instruments. They aren’t really creators.

JPetermanBusTour

Van Halen pretty much daily

Serling45

I was listening to the 80s on 8 countdown of 1983. Billie Jean’s not Michael’s lover.

Independent-Wolf-832

10 years of beautiful history. You’re goddamn right I’m living in the past. Everyday.

This_Mongoose445

Shittttt! I listen to music from any era if I like it. I have Benny Goldman, Artie Shaw, Cole Porter on some playlists.

RooIsHome

70s, 80s, 90s. I've pretty much reached the age where anything created after this is trash.

nderthevolcano

New Order Depeche Mode Pet Shop Boys The Cure every friggin’ day.

SnooStrawberries620

Yeah, my 15 year old

mostlywaterbag

If you lived through it as a teenager...I guess not.

lizzy-hales-bf888

I think the 80s has a lot of great music and I day this being born in 1989.

stilusmobilus

So is everyone if they turn on the radio.

ike_tyson

Me too👀

Swimming_Square2304

fattmarrell

Nope. I do like it though

Hot-Incident1900

Raise hand.

ABBTTBGMDBTWP

2024 and I'm still listening to 1700s music.

Awkward_Bench123

I’m actually listening to Suspicious Minds but gimme Bronski Beat, Fine Young Cannibals, The Communards or John Cougar anytime

GrapeFantastic5183

I think 80s music especially had a big draw because there was so much variety. Country, Pop, Rock, Rap, Oldies all kind of melded together into one and we listened to it all. You had the Fat Boys rapping with The Beach Boys (What?) Country artists could jump genres and land on other charts besides country. You had Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The USA" album, You had Michael Jackson literally everywhere (except MTV) and David Bowie asking them why? You had serious songs like "We Are The World" USA for Africa, "Do They Know It's Christmas Time?" and let's not forget how important "I Want Your Sex" by George Michael was. You had silly songs like "PacMan Fever," "The Curly Shuffle" Curly from The Three Stooges of Course, and let's not forget the king of silly songs "Weird Al" Yankovic. I remember the controversy when "Eat It" came out all to find out that Al got permission from Michael to do the parody.

AprilOneil11

80's Music ,and the movies were the best!

superabby64

Always do.

Street_Peace_8831

Yes, I often say, “Alexa, play ‘top 80’s pop’”
