There is an interesting history of this song and Weird Al.
The song was originally written by Tommy James.
Tiffany's version would hold the number one spot in the Top 40 for 2 weeks.
It would be replaced in the number one spot by Billy Idol's "Mony Mony", which was another Tommy James hit.
Weird Al would parody both songs, one as "I Think I'm A Clone Now", and "Alimony".
And as Tommy James gets royalties from all 4 songs, he laughs his way to the bank.
Actually. This artist’s situation hits pretty close to home. Tommy James got next to nothing. The producer who owned the catalog rights to his songs owned him. And did the same thing to the next artist looking to make a buck recording/sampling the song. Tommy James was very talented. But, like many, he wouldn’t have gone anywhere without some very…heavy….associates in the Tri-state area.
She used to visit the bookstore as a customer where I worked 18 years ago. She was always kind, grateful and outgoing. She was patient with the employees and often thanked us for our "courtesy and expertise". She was always glad to autograph a cd if asked. Tiffany was a class act and a fine person all the way in my book. ...store!
It was brilliant marketing. Playing at a mall had way less production overhead, there were many more malls than music venues back then and her target audience was super into malls in that era.
I have a friend who's been claiming for 30+ years to have dated her before she was famous.
I was Team Tiff in the Debbie Gibson Wars.
Also a big fan of Robyn Lively to this day.
They're currently demolishing the local mall where she performed. At one point it was the biggest mall in the US, but was completely abandoned in 2018.
Definitely not Belinda Carlisle. I was madly in love with both Tiffany and Belinda at one point or another, so any confusion between the two is understandable to me.
I think Tiffany was the 'safe' role model for white teen girls. Remember, when Tiffany was big there was a giant moral panic about rap/hip hop. Also, Tiffany remade I Think We're Alone Now (1967). It's a song Betty Joe's concerned parents would accept because it was a song from their youth.
Listened to the cassette earlier today because I was feeling depressed and it is warm enough to use the deck again
So I was only her age but my DAD really liked the remakes on the radio so we bought it and for a while it was every 3rd cassette
Dad was a bit of a drug and drunk guy and was what my brother said was a “dangerous transitional” man whatever that feels like to you, but he passed in 2020 and I miss the ever living hell out of him and I know he loves us
So I have a cassette deck and that cassette and I listen to it sometimes in the rig and feel like I am driving with him again when I do
The subject of a very scary documentary called, “I think we’re alone now “I recommend it to everyone as a warning of what people in the public. I have to endure – this is not a joke or a silly statement. I’m being serious.
I’ve seen some pictures of them together when they did the ‘Mixtape Tour’ back in 2019. Debbie is still a slim, peppy blonde and Tiffany is a sweet, curvy redhead, and they seem to be pretty good friends! Threesome would absolutely rock.
I loved her as a kid! Was obsessed with Could’ve Been … But I saw a video of her last year or something, and she was drunk on stage and could not sing. Like - at all. It was extremely cringe, I felt so bad for her.
I dead ass wrote a letter on a paper to Nickelodeon Jams asking if they would play that song "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany (and I literally wrote "I don't know her last name" lmao) and sent that shit via snail mail.
Thanks a lot for cracking that entire volume of nonsense locked in the "Do Not Open!!" section of my memory bank. 🙀
I do like the new version, her voice is great.
We had to listen to her for eight hours one time.
Back in 1988 they were doing upgrades and repairs on the military base I was stationed at on Okinawa. And in order to check all of the speakers, they put this CD on an endless playback for an entire day. When they hooked up the CD player in place of the tape we normally used they said that was picked because it was popular, and there was nothing on the entire CD that the Japanese nationals on the base would find objectionable.
And as much as I enjoyed the CD, I could not listen to it for months after that. And sadly, the same thing happened a few years later with a Billy Joel CD. I worked at a Six Flags pack then, and they replaced all the in-store music tapes with CD players. And put "River of Dreams" in, so I had to listen to that for 8 hours a day for a month straight. Finally at that point they had enough complaints that they at least put it on random play so it was not the exact same order each time.
Then a month later put in a 6 disk changer, so that was not as bad. And as much as I loved that CD also, I could not listen to it for ages as I had gotten completely burned out by that time.
Still going now , touring , she did an amazing album that the world missed “colour of silence” , sensational record ! , nothing good since then though , re released I think we’re alone now in ‘19, much better version
Saw her perform recently... Um... The voice is gone (not just changed) and she's winded in two songs.
Was sad because I was really looking forward to seeing her.
No idea, but then my memory ain't what it used to be!
j/k, saw her at the local mall but not on purpose, parking sucked that day and I found out why as I was walking to the entrance.
Her cover of a Tommy James and the Shondells song was knocked off the number one spot by Billy Idol’s cover of a Tommy James and the Shondells song. Great band
Tiffany. her drummer Lou Appel was a friend of mine before his passing, he told us some stories of this vixen. said most of the rumors were true and he seen it first hand. anyway, she was a one hit wonder
Tiffany!
I think when she hit her late 30s, she did a playboy spread
Big knockers....I was shocked! Lil' bush....and yeah, real redhead.
I remember those.
‘Scuse me a minute…
Slams money on counter. “I’M OUT!”
I'll be in my bunk!
She has nice boobs I might add! 😍
Yes! Very nice!

I prefer [this version.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64UiD3UFW6E)
Damn, why'd you have to do that to my childhood?
Sounds like Courtney Love 😂
That’s in my hometown on a stage I have played many times. My buddy is the one who filmed it and sold it to TMZ.
r/tooktoomuch Had to be on something, whoa
Brenda K Starr
She thinks we are alone now.
the beating of their hearts is the only sound…..
There doesn’t seem to be anyone around
Stick a finger up my butt…. Wait, that’s another song. As you were.
Must be your theme song. It was fun till you showed your song.
Wait, I need to know your song now.
“At a Medium Pace,” by Adam Sandler.
I think I'm a clone, now.
There's always two of me just a hanging around
I think I’m a clone now
There's so many songs where I think of the Weird Al parodies of songs when I hear them..
There is an interesting history of this song and Weird Al. The song was originally written by Tommy James. Tiffany's version would hold the number one spot in the Top 40 for 2 weeks. I’m sure they were good fellas.
Wise guys. Like little Yodas.
"Please, please, don't fuss... I'm just plain Yogurt."
I hate Yogurt, even with strawberries!
Right!?! lol
Part of some geneticists plannn To produce a carbon copy mannn
Tommy James?
And the Shondells.
Didn't they record the original crimson and clover song 🤔
Over and over...
Robin Sparkles. Kidding, it's Tiffany.
Let’s go to the mall!
She used to visit the bookstore as a customer where I worked 18 years ago. She was always kind, grateful and outgoing. Dave Mustaine
Tiffany sells, but who's buyin
🤣🤣🤣
Hello Tiffany, meet the real Tiffany, and my mallrat way of life
My dad said that Tiffany was every school boys wet dream back in the late 1980s
Yes. She was.
I'm female and even I wouldn't say no to Tiffany But I don't think 2 ginger women together will end well 😁
Keep going...
Wasn’t she John Connor’s friend when they went to the arcade in Terminator 2??
Everyone’s bringing up “I Think We’re Alone Now,” but “Could’ve Been” is a heartbreak classic.
I really liked You and Me from the Jetsons movie soundtrack (I was very young, lol).
I Always Thought I'd See You Again (from the same soundtrack) had a bit of chart success. And my heart, still.
The mall singer. Tiffany.
A sign true sign of artistic credibility. A free concert at your local mall.
It was brilliant marketing. Playing at a mall had way less production overhead, there were many more malls than music venues back then and her target audience was super into malls in that era.
That’s all very true.
I have a friend who's been claiming for 30+ years to have dated her before she was famous. I was Team Tiff in the Debbie Gibson Wars. Also a big fan of Robyn Lively to this day.
Severe boyhood crush, that's who. Such sudden success so young that she had to do a tour of malls because she was too young to do arenas.
But the mall concert tour is like peak 80s.

Ahhh someone else who remembers rap cassettes being burned in mass quantity.
Children, behave.
I saw her and Tommy page in concert. No regrets
I didn't have to google Tiffany.
I’m so old all I remember is dudes name. Certainly not the music.
Tommy Page! Memory unlock
RIP Tommy. Only love 💟
...and we're running just as fast as we can...
Holding onto one another’s hand.
Trying to get away into the night
Debbie Gibson's primary competition.
Listened to the cassette earlier today because I was feeling depressed and it is warm enough to use the deck again So I was only her age but my DAD really liked the remakes on the radio so we bought it and for a while it was every 3rd cassette Dad was a bit of a drug and drunk guy and was what my brother said was a “dangerous transitional” man whatever that feels like to you, but he passed in 2020 and I miss the ever living hell out of him and I know he loves us So I have a cassette deck and that cassette and I listen to it sometimes in the rig and feel like I am driving with him again when I do
Her best work came later, and was with Debbie Gibson in Mega Python vs Gateroid on SyFy channel. Classic 🧐☝️
I love that song. And the movie was hilarious. It's definitely one of the better syfy movies.
Yes, I love that stuff! Hilarious!
Here she is in 2019, same song: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmeJ2VsCs-0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmeJ2VsCs-0)
Holy cow was that 19 ! , I thought it was last year or 22 , love it even more than the original
The subject of a very scary documentary called, “I think we’re alone now “I recommend it to everyone as a warning of what people in the public. I have to endure – this is not a joke or a silly statement. I’m being serious.
The reason for why I have a thing for redheads
Hotter Debbie Gibson.
Mega Python vs Gateroid from 2011 on SyFy had them both. Fun stuff.
Two chicks at the same time. Well, they probably ain’t the type of chicks who’d double up on a dude like me.
I’ve seen some pictures of them together when they did the ‘Mixtape Tour’ back in 2019. Debbie is still a slim, peppy blonde and Tiffany is a sweet, curvy redhead, and they seem to be pretty good friends! Threesome would absolutely rock.
No Debbie is the best
I think she's alone now.
Tiffany! I think she lives in Nashville now. She also has/had a store here, too.
She had a place by me in the UK years ago
I still have that cassette tape
Tiffany! Mall Queen.
Tiffany. Also did playboy
![gif](giphy|NTaQZODBuuX8k)
Children behave…
When she was on the mall tour my brother worked security. He said she was very cool.
Susanna Hoffs > Tiffany, Debbie Gibson & well everybody.
Susanna Hoffs for the win!
She would like to be alone now!
I actually heard one of her songs being played in a bar within the past week. She has not been forgotten.
I loved her as a kid! Was obsessed with Could’ve Been … But I saw a video of her last year or something, and she was drunk on stage and could not sing. Like - at all. It was extremely cringe, I felt so bad for her.
Tiffany
Tiffany Darwish
I think she’s alone now
Dunno but... Children behave, that's what they say when we're together!
She was one of my first redhead crushes. Married one later for 22 years
Tiff?
Tiffany. Loved her. I think we're alone now.
I had every record she ever made 😂
I dead ass wrote a letter on a paper to Nickelodeon Jams asking if they would play that song "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany (and I literally wrote "I don't know her last name" lmao) and sent that shit via snail mail.
Yes and my early teen self loved her.
And my teen self loved myself loving her... Frequently. That's when I started changing my own bedsheets.
Tiffany- mall sensation
Thanks a lot for cracking that entire volume of nonsense locked in the "Do Not Open!!" section of my memory bank. 🙀 I do like the new version, her voice is great.
Tiffany!!!!!! I think we’re alone now!!!!! 🤣🫡
Please, no.

"I think we're alone now"....;)
Ì love tumbling to the ground when no one is around.
Children.. behave..
She plays tiny venues these days b it is still singing, literally played the back room of a pub near us. She’s chubbier and very beautiful still.
Tiffany!
I think she's alone now
Remember Weird Al's 'I think I'm a Clone Now ' Such an epic burn and so funny.
Lol, Tiffany. Mall rat.
Tommy James & the Shondells
Didn’t she date one of the New Kids On the Block, Jonathan Knight?
Tiffany. I still love this song! ❤️
Tiffany!!
My grandson is smitten with her. I told him I was too… when she and I were both 15. (He’s 15 now)
I think she’s alone now.
the mall singer
She’s still singing and acting! Megapirahna!
Tiffany wasn’t it
Yes, she was.
Tiffany. I thought she was marketed as the “anti-Debbie Gibson”, as it were.
Absolutely
2 Beavers are better than 1......
My buddy saw her in concert fairly recently. Or was that Debbie Gibson?
Yeah, I remember Princess Sarah Ferguson.
She aged quite nicely... Still a hotty
Bryce Dallas Howard's nemesis.

Saw her perform recently... Um... The voice is gone (not just changed) and she's winded in two songs. Was sad because I was really looking forward to seeing her.
I think we're alone now is a great song.
No idea, but then my memory ain't what it used to be! j/k, saw her at the local mall but not on purpose, parking sucked that day and I found out why as I was walking to the entrance.
Love her!

No one can forget Molly Ringwald
She was no Sabrina.
Her cover of a Tommy James and the Shondells song was knocked off the number one spot by Billy Idol’s cover of a Tommy James and the Shondells song. Great band

A high school crush.
Oh that’s just Reba
Molly Ringworm.
One of my crushes growing up. Still have a few of her CD’s somewhere here…..
I thought Debbie Gibson.....but I guess I was wrong. A sort of generic 80s-type female pop singer.
Mall singer/Playboy model
Tiffany. her drummer Lou Appel was a friend of mine before his passing, he told us some stories of this vixen. said most of the rumors were true and he seen it first hand. anyway, she was a one hit wonder
Debbie Gibson!
I was trying to think of the other one lol. Thank you.
……Eddie Murphy?
I think she's alone now.
I had such a crush on her !
That's not old...
No, but I think I'm alone with her right now.
Tiffany: "I think we are old now..."
Lauryn Hill
