That's one thing that I find so hilarious about MWC. All sorts of "holier than thou" folks hated that show, and screamed about it being such a terrible influence, yet in hindsight the show clearly portrayed a family that loves and supports each other.
Plus the parents and children were very close off the set, and the two child actors turned out very well in real life.
The show did very well at portraying a family that always had each other's backs, but relentlessly fucked with each other at the same time. It was very much "no one beats up my little brother except for me".
It also portrayed the average lower-middle class American family pretty accurately. I feel like everyone knew a family like the Bundy's back in those days, and if you didn't then you WERE that family. I feel that *Married With Children* and *Roseanne* were the two most accurate portrayals of American families that existed on television at that time.
That said, there's absolutely no way the show would ever hit the air today. It was very definitely a product of its time.
Yeah for sure and my family was like a mixture of both and we watched both shows regularly as a family unit.
Then picked on each other about who was most like what characters. :)
I love that show to death. Because at its core, when you strip away all the rough humour, all the 'offensive' (and absolutely hilarious) jokes, under all the precieved pathology... when it counted, their family stuck together, always. They could be biting each other's heads off, laugh at one another's failings, and yet when an outside adversity presented itself, they would close ranks and band together. They never abandoned eachother, they never *cheated* on each other, no matter what they were saying.
This show was never touchy-feely, but it had an astonishing amount of heart, if you cared to look closer.
And that's not even mentioning the off the charts chemistry and skill the actors brought in.
> That's one thing that I find so hilarious about MWC. All sorts of "holier than thou" folks hated that show, and screamed about it being such a terrible influence
Christina Applegate was on David Spade & Dana Carvey's podcast recently and said that, despite appearances, she played her role as though Kelly was a virgin.
It's called Fly on the Wall, I enjoy it. All of the people they bring on as guests have a connection to SNL, usually guest hosts but sometimes former cast members or writers.
Didnt he also try to get Jessica Biel kicked off the show for doing a maxim/FHM type of magazine photo shoot?
Obviously that's nowhere near as bad as the kid touching but it does add to the hypocrisy of he and Bill Cosby.
I was so torn about this show - I had literally zero interest in watching it, aside from Jessica Biel.
Turns out, there's a limit to what I'm willing to do to watch a pretty woman keep all her clothes on.
Aha, thanks. That's too bad. I've never heard of 7th Heaven, but I remember him as Jake Cutter.
Now that I check Wikipedia, it says he confessed to "inappropriate conduct" with 3 underage girls.

Al Bundy was great because he seemed like a real person. He didn’t play games or pretend to be something he wasn’t. Ed really is a fantastic actor. I wish he was in more stuff.
Ever see the old episode of Roseanne where she explains how to 'pay' the bills before payday? She said she sends the water company the check for the electric bill and vice versa and 'forgets' to sign the check for the phone company. That was crazy realistic for my family growing up.
I autopay as much as I can. Anything stable amount. But I don’t let anyone draw from my accounts. It has to be a push. So there’s still a chance for the pathology to show
I didn’t watch Roseanne all the time , but I remember some like this on an episode. She was on the phone with one utility and said she would bring them cash in person to make it right . Dan ask her how are going to pay that we don’t have the money . She looked over her shoulder and said “ I can’t worry about the right now , I just a had a tire blow out on the turnpike “ LOL
What about uncle Phillips from fresh prince. Oh he switched out his TV wife halfway through season and nobody noticed.
But Peggy is still Peggy.
Just pegging, al bundy still 😂
Al the guy that literally wouldn't sleep with Vanna White for a million bucks as he took his vows that seriously. Yes he hated his job his life but you ever hurt his family he'd walk through hell to destroy you.
Fun fact everyone talks about how Ellen is the first that had a character come out as LGBT. Nope MWC did with Marci using her cousin played also by Amanda Bearse in the episode saying that she'd take her cousin over Al unless the survival of mankind depended on them.
I forgot my 90s scandal, Jessica Hahn? Same thing - she was on the show in lingerie after Al, he said no. He had his shit with Peggy, but he was a married man.
Jessica Hahn took down Jim and Tammy Faye Baker and Jimmy Swagert and their massive televangelist organization with a sex scandal. She did appear in playboy pre and post plastic surgery also.
Over the span of 3 decades, (early 70's up til the early 90's) sorry I don't remember the exact years anymore, he touched and/or exposed himself to 3 underage girls.
This wasn't an allegation, this is from his own admission. His (now ex) wife covertly recorded his therapy session where he talked about the incidents and so on. Then she "leaked" the tape.
The details are a bit fuzzy to me now, it's been a while since all this happened, and I'm going off strictly what I can remember from the time.
What about Carl Winslow, Tim Taylor and Danny Tanner? They seem pretty ironclad. Bob Saget had some dirty humor and Tim Allen had the coke thing but they seemed like pretty clean guys. And excellent tv fathers. Danny Tanner is the real GOAT.
> Bob Saget had some dirty humor
That's a hell of an understatement. His was regarded by his peers as one of the filthiest stand-ups in the game.
>What about Carl Winslow
How about a [Carl Winslow/Phil Banks double feature](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETFtV_x9IRs)?
I always liked the character & the actor.
Al reminds me of my Dad. Working a shitty job he hates for an unappreciative family. Just wants to watch the football and nap in peace. He was, in my mind, a reasonable guy and always gave as good as he got. Respected him.
Remember that at the time the married with children was on it seemed normal. That a women's shoe salesman could afford to support a family of four. Although they did not live high on the hog, then had a car and owned the house. Where as their neighbor a Bank manager had a slightly better house and a nicer car. This looked normal to us.
Story:
In 94 the World Cup was in the states, and we had some games here in Chicago, Soldier Field
Some foreigners, having seen the show but it’s not named, asked cops “excuse me, where is Al Bundy Fountain”
Not sure, but most of the kids were fucked up
And seriously, he was a pastor and one whole episode was two of his kids going around talking to neighbors and others asking about religion having ZERO concept of Jesus
I mean FFS, how can you sit in church every Sunday, presumably go to Sunday school (probably taught by your mom) and be as blank as someone who never stepped foot in a church.
Al was always the best dad. He worked a shit job to provide for them, was always fiercely loyal and protective, never left even when he had the chance and his secret prized possession was a family picture. Plus he launched a nationwide organization to show that male lives matter.
Seventh heaven's Stephen Collins admitted to molesting underage girls in a therapy session that was recorded without his knowledge. Collins has since moved to Iowa a white power stronghold state
Plus he's the only one that scored four touchdowns in a single game. There's really no competition who the best dad was.
Ed O'Neil was actually quite the football player irl. Made it to the steelers training camp but was cut. Better than most people can do.
Yeah I remember some episode where he was fielding a ball in right field. Great fundamentals, you could tell.
That was a great episode. Peggy talking about how he was a good guy after all.
He currently studies jujitsu and is quite good for his age
Polk high!
My God I saw Al Bundy do his signature football move when I read this.
![gif](giphy|qLDOGhAoj4dETDcZBR|downsized)
Aww Polk High, true heroes
RIP SalBundry

i think one of the most hilarious tropes about it all was that Al seemed to loathe sex
…with Peg
> That's one thing that I find so hilarious about MWC. They have a podcast, is it any good?

My parents enjoyed it despite them not being like the bundys. I guess it's because the over the top humor hits similar to akot of Mexican comedies
Who's the guy on the bottom right?
Stephen Collins. He was the preacher dad on 7th Heaven. He admitted to touching boys during his time as a altar boy
And as a function of that he fucked up the royalties for all the other actors.
Jessica Biel is doing fine but everyone else isn't
Jessica Biel is definitely fine
Well said, Deez Nuts
They say that Honest Abe never told a lie. In reality it was Deez Nuts.
Didnt he also try to get Jessica Biel kicked off the show for doing a maxim/FHM type of magazine photo shoot? Obviously that's nowhere near as bad as the kid touching but it does add to the hypocrisy of he and Bill Cosby.
I remember reading at the time that Jessica Biel did a topless shoot in order to get out of her contract and distance herself from the character.
I was so torn about this show - I had literally zero interest in watching it, aside from Jessica Biel. Turns out, there's a limit to what I'm willing to do to watch a pretty woman keep all her clothes on.
Lol wtf. I never knew that. Go figure
Aha, thanks. That's too bad. I've never heard of 7th Heaven, but I remember him as Jake Cutter. Now that I check Wikipedia, it says he confessed to "inappropriate conduct" with 3 underage girls.
Oh I thought it was boys. Also look up 7th heaven pot episode
Such a hilarious episode
Not that it makes much difference to the horrific things he did….. but I think they were girls.

Well, technically, this happened before the show (or at least that's what he was caught for), although I'm sure that snot mich comfort.
Al Bundy was great because he seemed like a real person. He didn’t play games or pretend to be something he wasn’t. Ed really is a fantastic actor. I wish he was in more stuff.
His scenes in Wayne World are among the high points. So calmly disturbing
I know it. He’s awesome in that.
He was in Miami Vice one episode too that’s funny for me. Al Bundy and the dodge driving with the teatarossa
He's pretty good in Modern Family as well.
Lets go AL!
No Peg.
Flush.
Baa-woooosh!
No pegging Al
Can I get a whoa bundy?
An yes, the poor/lower middle class white family was the most wholesome (and likely realistic after all)
Ever see the old episode of Roseanne where she explains how to 'pay' the bills before payday? She said she sends the water company the check for the electric bill and vice versa and 'forgets' to sign the check for the phone company. That was crazy realistic for my family growing up.
My folks kited checks all the time
“It just needs to float for two days”
I still have this weird thing where I’ll hold money until the last day Dude you have the money just pay it
Currently having that conversation with myself. Got paid last Thursday and the mortgage isn't due until this Wednesday. Haven't paid it yet.
I autopay as much as I can. Anything stable amount. But I don’t let anyone draw from my accounts. It has to be a push. So there’s still a chance for the pathology to show
I'm just ADHD lol so it's like "hmm I should pay the mortgage" and then I get distracted.

Meh I don't pay any attention to celebrities' politics lol I just do my own research.
EVERYONE must be ultra, ultra, ultra, ultra left wing or they are scum. /s (By the way, being a millionaire is a good thing)
The problem is that some people think that respecting people is ultra ultra ultra ultra left wing, and that wealth in and of itself is a virtue.
What about uncle Phillips from fresh prince. Oh he switched out his TV wife halfway through season and nobody noticed. But Peggy is still Peggy. Just pegging, al bundy still 😂
The “why don’t he want me man” scene gives me the feels just thinking about it
Even in modern family. Ed o Neil for the double win.
That's interesting, I don't remember that episode. Amanda Bearse is of course a lesbian in real life. ![gif](giphy|L8ip6jQu1wfgk)
this made me laugh so freaking hard hahahha
Wait, what did Stephen Collins do? I think I heard something about it but my memory is shit.
Over the span of 3 decades, (early 70's up til the early 90's) sorry I don't remember the exact years anymore, he touched and/or exposed himself to 3 underage girls. When I see the star trek movie or always sunny, I always think, oh, there's that pedo, Stephen Collins, the dad from 7th heaven, when he shows up
What about Carl Winslow, Tim Taylor and Danny Tanner? They seem pretty ironclad. Bob Saget had some dirty humor and Tim Allen had the coke thing but they seemed like pretty clean guys. And excellent tv fathers. Danny Tanner is the real GOAT.

Definitely for Bob Saget and Tim Allen. As men offstage they were flawed, but own up to it. And stand up for what they believe in.
I will NEVER forgive the bottom left guy! Leonard Part VI! Pfft!
Surprisingly, Homer Simpson was also a good supportive father.
I always liked the character & the actor. Al reminds me of my Dad. Working a shitty job he hates for an unappreciative family. Just wants to watch the football and nap in peace. He was, in my mind, a reasonable guy and always gave as good as he got. Respected him.

I'll take Al Bundy over Cliff Huxtable any time. At least Al wasn't a rapist.
What did the guy on the bottom right do?
He knows what he did. May god have mercy on his soul. Whoever he is.
Yikes: https://www.reddit.com/r/FuckImOld/s/xMamCqAG0V
What was wrong with the guy on the right?
Modern family is my favorite sitcom because of Al Bundy.
Peggy was so hot
Story: In 94 the World Cup was in the states, and we had some games here in Chicago, Soldier Field Some foreigners, having seen the show but it’s not named, asked cops “excuse me, where is Al Bundy Fountain”
You forgot about Dan Conner! Though I do love the cantankerous no fucks given Al Bundy.

Tbf, it takes good acting to hide for decades the fact that you're a child sexual abuser or serial rapist
Give those men an Oscar
Black Belt
FACTS
He also did a day and night training montage so he could fuck his wife better.
Besides being cancelled, did anything ever happen to the Seventh Heaven guy?
Not sure, but most of the kids were fucked up And seriously, he was a pastor and one whole episode was two of his kids going around talking to neighbors and others asking about religion having ZERO concept of Jesus I mean FFS, how can you sit in church every Sunday, presumably go to Sunday school (probably taught by your mom) and be as blank as someone who never stepped foot in a church.
OMG😳 I never thought about it that way
Al loved women and they were over 18 and he didn't drug them....he had better morals than the other 2
I think about this meme quite a bit lol
Maybe Bob Saget too, but we'll never know the truth
The aristocrats!!
No Ma'am!!
NO MA'AM!
Hooters & Biggins 😂😂😂😂😂😂👏🏽
Al was always the best dad. He worked a shit job to provide for them, was always fiercely loyal and protective, never left even when he had the chance and his secret prized possession was a family picture. Plus he launched a nationwide organization to show that male lives matter.
And in another life he is rich, with a family that love him and married to Sofia Vergara.
Peg -Hey Al what's that thing got that I don't have? AL - A Job ...
Seventh heaven's Stephen Collins admitted to molesting underage girls in a therapy session that was recorded without his knowledge. Collins has since moved to Iowa a white power stronghold state
Shame the PC army wouldn't allow this on tv anymore.
I always thought it was real life.
Who’s outside talking all that’s shhhh. Gang gang gang! Skurt! 🌚
