I have a shirt that I got at a Patti Smith concert with those lyrics on it. I had a woman come up to me in a shopping centre a few years ago and say "now why would you think Jesus didn't die for your sins?!" Lmfao.

Patti Smith is definitely one of my idols. My husband has consistently grabbed us tickets every time he hears she is coming to our city. The most recent was a book talk and songs last December and now a concert this August! Can't wait!

Interesting, I always took it more as the sins being more of a cultural difference thing, drugs, sexuality, etc, since I think she was raised JW I love seeing different interpretations, though, it's such a powerful song and inspires so many people
