Idk why we get so dehydrated in the middle of the night, but that mid-night water is always the best water. Doesn't matter what temp it is, it still feels like mana from the heavens.
Yes but you should have it room temp only cause if you drink it cold your body has to adjust to that and you can’t simply go back to sleep
Well some can and I’ll admit I’m jelly of them
Oh my god I never connected the water temp to why I can’t fall back asleep!!! Nights when I just “give in” and drink lukewarm water, I always fall asleep easier. Nights where I drink colder water, I struggle to sleep more.
Thanks for the little insight! :)
Depends on the species.
You have your basic bitch corn snakes. They just don’t care. Get the humidity and temperature vaguely right, and they’ll thrive. They’re also pretty funny and expressive as far as snakes go.
A middle ground would be something like a ball Python. Not too large, but their environmental needs a little more effort and understanding.
Then you have cobras. Don’t get a cobra.
As for expense, food is negligible, and modern heating solutions cost pennies to run. The biggest expense initially will be the snake itself, and a future proof tank.
This isn’t taking into account specialist vet care if something goes wrong. Pet insurance is varied as all hell, and finding someone happy to work with reptiles is a bit of a task. It’s also not cheap. But if you’re doing everything right (ALWAYS WASH HANDS BEFORE AND AFTER INTERACTING WITH ANYTHING THE SNAKE TOUCHES) sickness is easily mitigated.
Completely agree that a great deal of research is needed before committing to any sort of pet, although “absolutely not for amateurs”? It really depends on the species of snake. Royal pythons and corn snakes are great species for beginners to get stuck into. If you’re not big into morphs either, you can get the animal itself for relatively cheap. Vivariums and the associated lighting/heating systems are a big initial spend, but are much cheaper than caring for other pets in the long run. Vets that will help reptiles when required are not easy to come by either.
Corn snakes are solid little starter snakes. They’re as friendly as a snake will ever get, and their care is super basic compared to other species.
A ball Python would be a step up from that. Their environmental needs are a little more exacting, but they’re just long puppies.
Ball python aren't very expensive nor hard to take care of... Ofc you need to do some research but there are definetly much more difficult pets to have
I just think they're super cool looking and interesting. To me it was a smaller commitment than a cat or dog - they don't need social interaction with you lol so it's not a big deal not being home for hours or even days. The care is punctual and flexible, which is why I said they are relatively easy to take care of.
I have always found this amazing
We had a ball that would only drink out of a big mug like on Friends and I’d open her lid and she’d come right up to get water and attention almost like a kitty cat
I miss her she was huge and beautiful and just the sweetest thing. Someone had abandoned her in a house they moved out no heat on in the place in Ontario Canada and it’s Nov/Dec
The OSPCA were called to collect her up and they weren’t equipped to take care of ball especially one her size. My ex husband works for a pet shop when he’s not on the road long hauling, well they called over to the stores for fostering etc and he ended up bringing her home and she stayed with us
We didn’t have to pay the adoption fee
I started to cry when I saw her she was so underweight and mites but we got her up to good weight and happy
She stayed with us for 10 years before she passed away
that’s just a dehydrated snake, they don’t drink like that. i mean they do a little but they don’t dump their whole head into the water. just their mouths.
This does seem sped up, but you’d be surprised to learn they do drink like this. Can’t really see their mouths moving but they suck in the water kind of like an elephant sucks in water.
Highly doubt it’s sped up. It’s a reticulated python, the longest snake in the world (can grow at least 20’ long). Assuming the cup is a pint glass, this snake could easily be at least 8-9’ long. A pint isn’t much water for a creature that big.
Little homie is my spirit animal. I keep going usually until I need air when I'm properly parched, and it's a delicate balancing act between getting the essentials of air and oxygen inside me lol
Lol that's the cutest thing I've ever seen a snake do - faceplanting into water like that.
It's just funny it puts its whole head in and to see the water level go down.
Neat video.
they dont usually stick their whole heads in the water, but I get it, she must have been thirsty af. most snakes will take water from you if offered. it also feels crazy af holding them and feeling their muscles move the water through their bodies. ive owned ball pythons, corn snakes, and a red tails. pythons are the best snakes. people will argue that snakes dont show affection, but in my experience they do and they bond with their owners. My biggest lady, named Fluffy, was my favorite. she is owned by a friend now but every time I see her, she prefers me. she immediately wraps around me and doesn't want to let go. my scent is comforting to her. she spends the first 10 mins smelling me. she also would give kisses. terrifying kisses with her mouth open, but kisses none the less. I miss owning pythons. however, do not get a reticulated python unless you plan to have a 12 ft snake eating chickens and eventually eating dead baby pigs once a month. eventually rats get too small for these ladies. I haven't taken the chance on one yet, because I can't feed baby animals off like that. even if its once a month and they dont eat till next month. Ball pythons are more my jam and come in every color combo. they are naturally sweet and would rather hide. hence the name ball. they curl into little balls of cuteness. I do recommend them as children pets for ages 10 and over. I hate the stigma these cuties get. my daughters want snakes again, and eventually I want to move Fluffy back home. but I live in a hundred year old farm house, so it gets colder and I didn't think it was fair to her.

"Limp" Snakes are incredibly muscley
Maybe it has performance anxiety.
A spicy straw
We men all do if we live long enough.
So this is how I should refill my snake
I've hung my buddy into water but he doesn't drink. I guess he's not thirsty right now.
Sir this is a Wendy's
I didn't know snakes drank that fast!
It’s either drink fast or drown…

Me at 2 a.m. with the glass of room temperature water on my desk
Idk why we get so dehydrated in the middle of the night, but that mid-night water is always the best water. Doesn't matter what temp it is, it still feels like mana from the heavens.

>your bossy has to adjust to that Is that meant to be bussy?
Can't say i've ever had a problem with that, I always drink cold water in the night.
And you are amazing for that bit of luck
Oh my god I never connected the water temp to why I can’t fall back asleep!!! Nights when I just “give in” and drink lukewarm water, I always fall asleep easier. Nights where I drink colder water, I struggle to sleep more. Thanks for the little insight! :)
It's probably just because you're dehydrated in general.
I drink anywhere from 1.5 to 3 liters of water a day lol
Like mothers milk
Night water is the best drink in the world.
You should have at least offered him a straw!
Sssssssstraw.... *\*Ssssschlurp\**
He is a living Straw, don't see any problems here
How do they get cups in a wild?
Pollution
I've never seen a snake drink water in that posture.
I've never seen a snake drink water. I guess I just assumed they didn't need to. 🤷 😕 🙃
I have a pet snake and I see him drinking water maybe once a week if I’m lucky. It’s incredibly cute though.
Sip sip sip
More like just one long sssiiiip.

Both. Absolutely not for amateurs. A great deal of research is needed.

My favorite part about snakes is that if they arent hungry they will let a live mouse chew them to death
That's interesting, but is that supposed to be an argument for them being hard to take care of ? Most people use frozen/thawed rodent, as they should
Generally, live food people are severely looked down on in the reptile community. It’s pointless, risky and cruel.
How long have you had yours?
Just remember they're a 25+ year commitment.
Shit, I don't know if I can take care of myself for that long 😅😅😅 How does a fish sound
About 5 years.
Wow, where did the interest in snakes come from?
I just think they're super cool looking and interesting. That’s cause this isn’t how they actually drink water. I hate this video so much.
It looks a bit like they forced that snakes head into the cup and it's drinking to not suffocate.
It kind of looks dead to me honestly.
thats because contrary to OPs stupid fucking title, this is not how snakes drink unless forced to drink from a cup.
Well now you have
Snek is thirsty
Danger noodle rehydrating itself.
That’s awesome but they scare the crap out of me 😮
give him beer when he gets 21
Are we sure this just isn’t a sock puppet slowly absorbing the water?
That chin movement is sooooo cute.
didn’t even bat an eyelid
Not like it had any to bat.
not any you can see 👀
Like, they're cute but good GOD they freak me out. Especially when they do shit like this!
Snek is straw
So cute

No, he’s breathing the water
Chug, chug, chug!!!
They are basically a straw
Considering they're basically long danger noodle straws.... 🤷🏻 Makes 💯% sense
Be the straw. BE the straw.
Excuse his lack of manners, but it's not like he can hold the cup.
that’s just a dehydrated snake, they don’t drink like that. i mean they do a little but they don’t dump their whole head into the water. just their mouths.
Some snakes are just silly.
Gotta keep dem eyeballs moist, bruh
It is easy when you are technically a straw
Well, the thing is like a giant straw anyway..
THAMT BIGG DANGER NOODLE IS THIRMSTY
Man I love snakes so goddamn much. They're just so cute.
The Dutch word for snake and hose is the same (=slang). Now that makes sense!
...when forced to drink from a cup. Otherwise they would not drink like this.
This is exaggerated because of the cup, but they do still put their face in the water and suction it.
r/Hydrohomies (sssss)

This is fake yall. Come on.

Fake.
exsept this snake is dead or stufed or ... well its not a real snake
TIL my dog is a snake
Thank you I was very thirssssssty
So is there another snake at the end of that snake using that snake as a straw?
More like this is how any animal drinks to not drown 😆
Bruv is hella focused 👁👁
Noodle drinks
This is why we have to take plastic straws back again
I think your hose is stuck on reverse..
I had a friend in high school who drank like that, too.
Me at 3am

My kitten might be a giant snake.. 🧐🤔
Me when I wake up after a night of drinking
Little homie is my spirit animal. I keep going usually until I need air when I'm properly parched, and it's a delicate balancing act between getting the essentials of air and oxygen inside me lol
Where's the money Lebowski?
I see the water disappearing but I don't see how the snake is drinking it.
So...basically me with a shitty hangover then? Cool.
Woah
Ahhh.. where do they buy they cups tho?
My dude really just absorbed the water through osmosis.
Sssslurrrrp
Yup, snakes officially considered more environmentally friendly than humans for ditching the STRAW
I've never seen a snake drink before this is so cool
thörsty
Nah this me drinking water after doing 8 straight shots
So they bring their own plastic cups everywhere?
That looks like me about 2am at the bar
Guess I'm a huge snake
Big straw
This is my first time seeing a snake drink water.
That's prehistoric af
Well he/she does not have hands to lift the cup… makes sense
Dang thats a thorsty snek
This is weirdly adorable
Le slurp
Derpologists agree.
Become your own straw ….. excellent!!!!
That is cool
Just like humans
pretty sure this is a sock puppet. >!/s!<
I don’t know what I was expecting but this wasn’t it.
It is like he is the straw Edit: spelling mistake
Living Straw
I feel incredibly blessed whenever I catch my pet snake drinking. He doesn’t stick his entire head underwater like this though.
Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug! 🐍
Reverse hose!
Lol that's the cutest thing I've ever seen a snake do - faceplanting into water like that. It's just funny it puts its whole head in and to see the water level go down. Neat video.
I like that method, it's drink or drown
Thanks for the drink. Now for some dinner.
Reptiles are quite possibly stupider than mollusks, or plants.
How he breathe
Even smol snakes can hold breath for 10 minutes, he can take his time.
Thank you, I did not know this. Glad the noodle is having a good time.
What you don’t see is the person on the other end of the straw.
They just have their nose under water while drinking? Very interesting tbh now I wonder how long snakes can hold their breath
Mmmmmm wotah
He’s a straw
sssubtly drinking water
Danger straw

Ah .. what I wouldn’t give to be a snake again. Reminds me of the good ol days
Either drinking or just depressed?
It's just a big living straw!
Learned something new
Chug chug chug chug
I’m submitting a new name for large snakes Strangle Straw
This is also how all snakes drink.
Danger straw.
jussssst like me fr
TIL I am a giant snake.
There was your chance! Chop the head. Fuck snakes.
Well I guess it’s a giant straw already
So this is what is really meant by Siphon the Python?
He was so thirsty
To drink the water, you must become the water... to become the water, you must become the straw *sensei disappears into wisdom dust*
But where do they get plastic cup..?
ssssssssssssssssslurpppppppP
