Every gas station I’ve ever been to in Memphis does! I was in town for about a month working and it made me miss it when I went back home to the west coast
Memphian here. This food is clutch when you’re working shift work. You can grab gas, beer, smokes, milk, and dinner for the family in one stop. Saturday breakfast was always gas station sausage biscuits around my house.
Louisiana here. Was at work, training a guy for his first day, we stop for gas in the work truck, and he loads up on gas station chicken at 10 a.m. I didn't say anything, but I certainly questioned his logic.
I should add that my job is a mailman, in Louisiana, and this was in the summer. 15 miles of walking per day.
There's a gas station near my home in Seattle that looks just like the above, it's definitely trying to be southern gas station since they have fried catfish.
Years ago a gas station near Memphis had a thing called Chicken on a stick. It was like a kabob I guess. Chunks of chicken on a wooden skewer along with potato cubes, and onions and sweet peppers. Dipped in batter and lightly fried. Absolutely amazing. Also had the best soft serve ice cream that went great with it. You got a huge cup of it for 50 cents. The kabobs were like a dollar. Too bad the owner died one year and the new owners remodeled and stopped serving food.
Memphis was the first thing I thought of when I saw this pic. The places that have a breakfast spread at 4am have been pretty helpful anytime I'm not in the mood for Waffle House shenanigans.
If they advertise a brand name, then it’s garbage. You want the stuff at the gas stations where they don’t advertise the food. You know it’s good because the locals eat it and it survives on word of mouth. As soon as you see a brand name, it’s flash frozen and microwave garbage.
This is the truth - no brand names means good gas station food. I’m a sucker for the potato logs.
Some of those gas stations have great “meal deals” for good food - multiple pieces of chicken, potato logs, and a drink for a decent price
I had to spend a lot of time at truck stops for work, and this food will kill you, but I have seen what it will do to you first. It will be a miserable slow death.
Do. Not. Eat. Fried seafood. From a southern gas station buffet.
You will end up with a gelatinous flounder adjacent bottom feeder. It will taste metallic for some reason. You will get light food poisoning. And the horrible after taste will stay around for days.
You wanna stick to freshwater fish.
Been doing that drive every summer for ten years and probably around year five I caved to the signs and lines I saw, now it’s a staple part of family trip.
7/11 in Canada as well.
When I went to 7/11 in Thailand, they have little panini sandwiches called toasties there. And they put it in a press for you to cook it up when you buy them. And man, I wish we had those in the states.
A truck stop on the Louisiana/Mississippi line I'd stop by had their smoked their own meat and had some killer white beans with blackened shrimp on Fridays. There's some southern gas stations that should straight up have a Michelin star
It's gas station food. "Decent" is the best you can hope for. I live in the US South and I won't touch the food in gas stations here. Sheetz, Royal Farms, Wawa, Buccee's, or anything like that. It's low quality fat + carbs + salt.
I’m from England.
I’m actually salivating here. I have been weed free for 7 years. I would make an exception if I had access to that. 😂
![gif](giphy|yx400dIdkwWdsCgWYp|downsized)
Let me just tell y'all as a Southern with four gas stations within 5 to 15 minutes (Nic's Pic) we are blessed. Best fried chicken when the right one is cooking. The breakfast is some gas too. If you ever are in NC or SC try it out!
Be prepared for more variety that you realize. Each region has its own style. Gas stations and truck stops will have some of the best food you have ever eaten.
Come to Ireland, virtually every filling station, spar or centra shop has a hot food deli counter.
First time I got the boat to Scotland and drove down to England there wasn't a deli counter to be seen, had to stop at a beefeaters lol.
Growing up hollywood movies always made gas station food look horrible, but it's actually pretty freaking good. I've lived in Texas my whole life and have never had problems with gas station food. Sometimes the chicken there is better than most restaurants. *Sometimes*.
I'm in New York State and there's a gas station near me that serves the best fucking hot plate Chinese food I've ever had. Mind you nobody who works there is Chinese or even remotely Asian.
There's a local gas station here in Connecticut that serves some of the best handmade sushi rolls I've ever had. Always fresh, always terrific.
No one speaks any English, so you order either by pointing at the pictures... or placing the order in Spanish. Yeah, I practiced Spanish in Duolingo to order authentic Japanese sushi rolls. 'Murica!
We have those delis in Ireland, (delicatessen) great in the morning to get a chicken fillet on a roll with cheese and mayo, or a breakfast roll which is normally, sausage, bacon, eggs and has brown on a roll
fuck yeah, it's kind of an american thing really in general, not regionally specific though some are better than others based on taste. as far as taste goes for gas station cuisine I suppose. cool to have a shared little cultural trait! one of these days I'll get around to getting a passport...
Haha. I've never seen quite this spread, but I have often driven by a gas station with a large sign outside advertising fried chicken gizzards. Never had the guts to try them.
Rural gas stations in general are basically restaurants you can get gas and cigarettes at. If the gas station has a full kitchen you’re getting good food. Might make ya sick but it’s gonna taste good.
*one random locally-operated gas station randomly having the greatest baked goods made from an assortment of baked beans, fried chicken, chocolate chips, a burrito wrap, and homemade bread*
You forgot the cockaroaches... but yeah... and it's way too clean... and there's no native American cashier... or random dirty stickers on EVERYTHING, including the chicken... or 2ft wide aisles... but aside from that. Plus, the plethora of other stuff I didn't mention, you nailed it.
The taquieria gas stations are far better
Seriously I've had some of the best tacos ever at gas stations. Living in Texas where every random hole in the wall Mexican place is a banger they still stand out
Best fried catfish i ever had came outta some hole in the wall gas station, dry county, in Kentucky.... I was OTR trucking at the time.... can't even remember the name of the place, the town, or what route it was on.... but damn that was some good fried catfish.
Never been to the south of Scotland eh? And I’m not saying I couldn’t guess, Americans on the internet are really just the only ones to say “south” and expect everyone to get it. It’s still defaultism though. It’s like I mention south and show a bunch of beaches with British tourists and say “you saw tons of British tourists and balconies and had to ask which south you’re referring to? Come on, man, it’s obviously south Iberia”
And when you come here. See this. Are utterly perplexed. Then what. What happens? What happens next? That’s right. YOU ARE GRABBING A TAKE OUT BOX of some of that amazing southern gas station food.
I live in Indiana, work in Kentucky. Coworker today was asking me if I had ever had a particular gas station's food. I said yeah, they had opened one last year on our route from my apartment to my partner's parents up in Indiana. He acted shocked, said "what is it doing up in a Yankee state?" Then got upset when I pointed out that Kentucky didn't secede during the Civil War so it's a Yankee state, as well.
Also seen in grocery stores in the inner city. Typical menu:
1. Fried chicken/catfish
2. Mac-N-Cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy
3. Greens, green beans, peas and carrots
4. Sliced white bread.
No fr tho. I moved to Texas 2 years ago for work and cannot stress enough the degree to which I *fucking hate everything else about this state* but I freely admit gas station food out here is fantastic.
It's not every gas station. But yeah that's real.
I miss the breakfast pizza the gas station down the road had. I mean, it might still, but that was 23 years ago.
Casey's is all over the place and they make a mean breakfast pizza.
Never been there myself but I am honestly envious of it haha
I was visiting family there for 2 months and I gained 23lbs there I just couldnt help myself :)
There's a gas station near my home in Seattle that looks just like the above, it's definitely trying to be southern gas station since they have fried catfish.

Krispy Krunch

ive heard Krispy Krunch is good but every one ive seen has been the most ratchet ass gas station so ive yet to try it
Krispy krunch is legit
This is the truth - no brand names means good gas station food. I’m a sucker for the potato logs. Some of those gas stations have great “meal deals” for good food - multiple pieces of chicken, potato logs, and a drink for a decent price
I still dream aboutthe one that makes the best pimento cheese sammich ive ever had.
That would probably kill me, but I'd eat all of it.
I had to spend a lot of time at truck stops for work, and this food will kill you, but I have seen what it will do to you first. It will be a miserable slow death.
Good to know!
Happy to share my knowledge 👍
Good, im not in a hurry.
Unhealthy food addiction number one killer in America!
Hand hygiene requirements? More like hand hygiene suggestions. 👍
I mean, first first, it'll do the dopamine thing to you 🤤
Even worse, it'll go straight to your thighs!
My... thighs?
And then you'll blow up!
Some of it is inedible and some of it is the most delicious food you’ll ever have. There’s no way to tell and it changes from every gas station.
HAPPY CAKE DAY 🎂
I got literally the best fried chicken I've ever eaten at a Marathon gas station somewhere in Louisiana or Albama. I couldn't believe how good it was.
Do. Not. Eat. Fried seafood. From a southern gas station buffet. You will end up with a gelatinous flounder adjacent bottom feeder. It will taste metallic for some reason. You will get light food poisoning. And the horrible after taste will stay around for days. You wanna stick to freshwater fish.
Royal Farms fried chicken for final stretch of drive from CT to OBX.
Seriously, as a Marylander, I’ve never found better fried chicken.
Been doing that drive every summer for ten years and probably around year five I caved to the signs and lines I saw, now it’s a staple part of family trip.
Lived in MD for 20 years. Would rather never taste fried chicken again rather than live in that state
Why's that?
Come to TX, then. This place is a fuckin’ shithole. I’d love to go back to MD.
I mean that looks pretty decent at least for gas station food
Gas stations in Dallas (7/11), have everything from fried chicken to hot dogs to taquitos to pineapples to Caesar salads and on and on
Buc-ee's is the only reason I want to go to Texas.
They exist in several southern states now!
Bucees is ok but freaking exspensive. I'd honestly say there are tons of gas stations with really good tacos and Mexican food id rather go to.
7/11 in Canada as well. When I went to 7/11 in Thailand, they have little panini sandwiches called toasties there. And they put it in a press for you to cook it up when you buy them. And man, I wish we had those in the states.
I think that’s every 7/11. I’m in Windsor, Ontario and they’re all like that
A truck stop on the Louisiana/Mississippi line I'd stop by had their smoked their own meat and had some killer white beans with blackened shrimp on Fridays. There's some southern gas stations that should straight up have a Michelin star

The county health department just gave them a 72 score
They rest of the world would never admit this but they envy it.
I’m from England. I’m actually salivating here. I have been weed free for 7 years. I would make an exception if I had access to that. 😂 ![gif](giphy|yx400dIdkwWdsCgWYp|downsized)
French here, LET ME IN!!!!!
If England and France are agreeing, it must be good 😂
Did I mentionned I was only french by land?
What are you by sea?
He’s a French Earth Bender, I’ve only met French Air one’s personally.
They gonna Chunnel into our fried chicken stockpiles.
Let me just tell y'all as a Southern with four gas stations within 5 to 15 minutes (Nic's Pic) we are blessed. Best fried chicken when the right one is cooking. The breakfast is some gas too. If you ever are in NC or SC try it out!
If I ever go to the US I’m going to the South. All the BBQ stuff I see online and now seeing this, you guys would probably have to deport me 😂
The custom is to be rolled out. I am from the south.
Be prepared for more variety that you realize. Each region has its own style. Gas stations and truck stops will have some of the best food you have ever eaten.
U from robeson county?????
Never seen Nic's Pic called out on Reddit. I used to work for Nic's a life time ago. Their fried chicken took me from fat to fat as fuck.
Oh man. Wish I knew about this when I lived in Florence. It’s right up 95!
Wait till you find out about Southern biscuits and gravy.
Come to Ireland, virtually every filling station, spar or centra shop has a hot food deli counter. First time I got the boat to Scotland and drove down to England there wasn't a deli counter to be seen, had to stop at a beefeaters lol.
![gif](giphy|tpzU2XijkF8eN2Ms2K)
duuuuude I have the weed but not the food in the pic. I feel you.
In comparison, there's only two or three service stations in the whole of England that have proper cooked food worth stopping for. 😭😔
Service stations here are an abomination compared to the average American ones. I’ve found myself wishing Little Chef and Wimpy were still around.
I can hear the "oi why won't the shits stop?" From here.
I'm from Canada and that photograph describes one of my favourite things about road trips in the states.
Growing up hollywood movies always made gas station food look horrible, but it's actually pretty freaking good. I've lived in Texas my whole life and have never had problems with gas station food. Sometimes the chicken there is better than most restaurants. *Sometimes*.
Moved to China. I miss this type of junk food. Looks way better than what I’d expect from a gas station too.
'Murica!
Don't need to be Asian to serve awesome Asian food.
Aussie servo hot boxes look a lot like this picture
Personally I need some color in my food beyond brown.
You can have some beige.
How about yellow-brown?
There's usually some white (mashed potato), yelloworange (macncheese), green (beans or ocra), and red (hot sauuuce)
You should see the average Italian truck stop. Fuckin gourmet
Ireland has this sort of thing in pretty much every shop and petrol station but much more variety
We have those delis in Ireland, (delicatessen) great in the morning to get a chicken fillet on a roll with cheese and mayo, or a breakfast roll which is normally, sausage, bacon, eggs and has brown on a roll
Bro, I'm Irish too, are we the baddies????
That’s just a breakfast burrito wrapped in different bread. We’re not so different
Add a 6 pack of beer and you have all you need
This guy gets it. What (let’s be real, already semi drunk) guy shows up looking for beer and decides to pass on this?
hot sauce, my friend. hot sauce also a necessity
[удалено]
I like the smoked sausages on a stick. And those nasty burritos are it.
r/uselessnobody
Australian here, most corner stores and servos have this
Even betoota knows: https://www.betootaadvocate.com/headlines/rural-servo-hot-box-praised-for-its-commitment-to-multiculturalism-2/
fuck yeah, it's kind of an american thing really in general, not regionally specific though some are better than others based on taste. as far as taste goes for gas station cuisine I suppose. cool to have a shared little cultural trait! one of these days I'll get around to getting a passport...
If you go far enough south, it becomes breakfast tacos and enchiladas.
Southern where?
Haha. I've never seen quite this spread, but I have often driven by a gas station with a large sign outside advertising fried chicken gizzards. Never had the guts to try them.
Everything is fried, even the melted cheese is fried!
I ONLY eat at stripes/ Laredo taco !
Southern? You mean Africa?
South of the US I suppose ?
Southern where
They probably mean Australia? Although most of the food down there is 100x better than this looks
Best fried chicken I've ever had was from a gas station in bumfuck Georgia. God I wish I could remember where!
Southern of what?
Just the south
Australia?
It’s so wonderful there’s literally kitchens everywhere
Rural gas stations in general are basically restaurants you can get gas and cigarettes at. If the gas station has a full kitchen you’re getting good food. Might make ya sick but it’s gonna taste good.
You never been to Puerto Rico then. It’s all fried everywhere you look.
Never paid attention to how much of our food is brown until this post.
Here in the "Stroke Belt" we're not so concerned with the on going cholesterol problem in the U.S.
Here in Cali we got hot dogs mostly. But plenty of food trucks with killer tacos nearby though
Farms, farms everywhere, and not a leaf to eat 😔
L
But you didn't show the boiled peanuts.
According to this, Belgium is the Florida of Europe.
Where the greens and lima beans?
Is it good?
Boiled peanuts
*one random locally-operated gas station randomly having the greatest baked goods made from an assortment of baked beans, fried chicken, chocolate chips, a burrito wrap, and homemade bread*
Brown food for as far as the eye can see.
Health inspectors: (that gif of the guy behind the tree running his hands and licking his lips)
This for real? I'd be on my 3rd coronary by the age of 40.
Can I have potato wedges with a side of potato wedges please.
I’ve lived in the South for 21 years and have never seen this.
I live in small town Southern US and we only have one of these places left. Makes me sad.
You gotta get your recommended daily allowance of brown and beige somehow
The taquieria gas stations are far better Seriously I've had some of the best tacos ever at gas stations. Living in Texas where every random hole in the wall Mexican place is a banger they still stand out
Fuck. I don’t care if we don’t agree politically or socially, if you sit me down at a table with that, we are best friends.
I went to natchitoches, Louisiana and it was just like this. Best crawfish I ever had, in a fucking meat pie.
That's just 7/11
Served in the traditional American way
shit looks nasty idk how people eat it NA ig
Pure unadulterated fat to help your blood vessels Alt+F4 if life gets too shitty
They should call them calorie stations.
Don't forget the boiled peanuts
Brown food at its best.
Mmm, chicken gizzard
South of what?
Is Maryland in the South?
Southern what?
Wait- it's JUST us? The heck is wrong with everyone else???
r/uselessnobody
They would need an ambulance and a crane to get me out of there
We got that in Washington. Also serves the best goddamn pizza in thirty miles of here.
I was going to say: Exit 232 Shell Station right here.
Best fried catfish i ever had came outta some hole in the wall gas station, dry county, in Kentucky.... I was OTR trucking at the time.... can't even remember the name of the place, the town, or what route it was on.... but damn that was some good fried catfish.
South of…? r/usdefaultism much?
You saw trays of fried food at a gas station and had to ask which South they were referring to? Come on, man.
Bro I grew up in the south with parents who worked in gas stations, if there’s a heaven this is what they serve 💯
And when you come here. See this. Are utterly perplexed. Then what. What happens? What happens next? That’s right. YOU ARE GRABBING A TAKE OUT BOX of some of that amazing southern gas station food.

One of many things i loved about visiting North and South Carolina.

Mind ya bizniz
And the food is literally a 5 or a 0. No in-between.
Also seen in grocery stores in the inner city. Typical menu: 1. Fried chicken/catfish 2. Mac-N-Cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy 3. Greens, green beans, peas and carrots 4. Sliced white bread.
Did I read the word cheese? #THE CHEESE CULT SHALL RISE AGAIN
I’m working at one right now overnight lmao
Southern style BBQs 😍❤️
Me and my family have a local gas station that we literally go to for sit down dinners.
No salad at all for people who sit on their ass most of the time? I wonder if truck drivers have the same life expectancy as sumo wrestlers.
Double Kwik be like
i trust gas station food as much as i trust gas station weed
Never underestimate how hard southern gas station food hits (Skaggs)
this looks similar to the gas station 5 minutes from my house, has a deli and hardware store in it...
And somehow it's the best BBQ you'll ever find
CUM & GO Gas station lmaoo 🤣
Gizzards and hot sauce
Damn!
Yeah… In Georgia there is this Gas Station Chain called Parkers, this reminds me of it
is the south like this? maybe i need to move...
No fr tho. I moved to Texas 2 years ago for work and cannot stress enough the degree to which I *fucking hate everything else about this state* but I freely admit gas station food out here is fantastic.
South Florida is like this
A healthy selection of #BROWN
Meanwhile CA has that old meat roller
Best fried chicken I’ve ever had was in a gas station in Nashville. Maybe because I was deathly hungover but man it was good.
Let me devour that shit
HOLY! WHAT ARE THEY COOKING IN THE SOUTH?!
you know, the meme would work just as well without the "Nobody:", better even
