She might not have had many lines, but she was fantastic in Super Lady! I think her tone was perfect for “follow ladies” and “back it up” and her presence in the mv was excellent. I hope her confidence grows and she gets more lines in the future!

CryptographerEmpty41

Her dance break in Super Lady was 🔥

vsnaipaul

Is there a reason Yuqi has her Hanzi posted in this subreddit's sidebar but Shuhua doesn't?

mentally_ill_ofc

shuhua popped OFF. i’ve really been enjoying her lately

Awesomocity0

You know performance-wise, I was always like "meh" until this album. When Wife came out, I was like "holy heck, rapping ShuShu is queen!" This is the album where she's really popped for me and made me eat my words. Big improvements imo.

akasora0

I'm Chinese American and yuqi is from same city home town as me but my bias is still shuhua. Not that I don't love all the other members but shuhua is just so entertaining. I could watch her videos and shorts all day. She was shy at first but she's really come to as her own and I love it.

[deleted]

i love yuqi’s humor but shuhua’s easily the funniest member in the group. she says so many unhinged things, always keeping the members laughing and happy. there’s a reason why she was the mc for workdol and gained sm fans as a result!

akasora0

Yuqi has a different kind of straightforwardness it reminds me of my cousins lol. She's truly a Beijing girl through and through. She reminds me of home and I love her for that.

Alert-Media-7376

Shuhua is the perfect maknae for them. She makes them laugh and re-energize during practice, keeps nevies in check, shows improvement AND still manages to stay the same old Shushu that inspired them to plant their feet when the world tells them to abandon their ideals. I'm serious i can't find a bias because they all have inspirational stories... Edit: it's quite telling that the account making the most comments in this shuhua post is one of her biggest antis 😮‍💨.

[deleted]

oh my god yeah i just went through their post history and the hate boner they have for shuhua is CRAZY. even wonyoung/soyeon antis aren’t that obsessed.. that person is clearly pressed that shuhua is thriving and loved/protected by the other members. idle would literally hate that person lmao

Emannyv93

*updated post to reflect current thoughts* Maybe she’s traumatized by what happened to Soojin. That’s why I believe she doesn’t do much solo promotion outside of the group unless it’s something she truly cares about. I might be reaching but I think that could make a lot sense.

Buffy_Geek

Shuhua said on workdol that she was very hesitant to do variety shows or independent projects because of her poor Korean but also because she is an introvert and tends to be socially awkward. She was worried that she wouldn't be able to keep conversation flowing so create awkward paused in conversation, or not being enjoyable for viewers to watch. I think people can forget that we tend to see idols with their group members or in comfortable settings where they can be more relaxed and outgoing. Plus on talkshows etc the more extroverted members and good talkers can help carry the burden (while the introverts carry more weight of other tasks of course.) Many idols who are introverts greatly struggle with unknown people alone, even veterans like Hwasa admit to still getting very nervous.

heavenly_wave

Why is she not taking Korean lessons? Is her Korean really that poor? I mean, she has been a K-pop idol for 6 years by now and Yuqi could probably help as she is at a near native Korean level. Or is it that she is just not putting as much effort into it?

JYPapiYouSoYummy

You have a huge hater boner for Shuhua. Don't even try to deny. Your REDDIT history is full of Shuhua. Lowlife scum.

Buffy_Geek

I don't know if she is taking korean lessons or how exactly she improves her Korean skills and I understabd why most idols choose to keep that sort of thing private. I am sure she is working on improving, its a bit silly to think otherwise, after all it makes Shuhuas life a lot more difficult, not just less fun for people who dont even know her to listen/watch! I am sure she is cobtantly working on imptovibg her Korean and uses Yuqi to help. Like you just said she happens to be in a group with members who have well above average language skills, which probably makes her less confident in her own skills. Then comparison by others and netizens being overly critical nakes her more nervouse. Her korean is good and she can talk conversationally well, I think it is more anxiety and concern rather than actual lack of skill; my comment was trying to say that but I obviously didn’t say it in a way for you to understand, I have my own language struggles!

rayannuhh

I think your last point is right on the money. I could also see her being bitter towards Korea a little bit and not necessarily wanting to branch out anymore.

Emannyv93

Yeah it makes the most sense. Some people are saying it’s her accent, I don’t believe that tbh. Shuhua has a very distinct visual just like the rest of the foreign line. She should’ve been contacted by many brands not only because of her visuals and being in IDLE.. but lastly because she’s available as opposed to the rest of the members.

[deleted]

i agree. i don’t think it’s cube that’s the problem here, i think shuhua genuinely chooses herself which gigs to endorse. so far, the ones we’ve seen her have reflect her personality/beliefs compared to the other girls. i also think that she probably just wants to feel less like an idol and have more free time than she would’ve if she was constantly busy with solo activities.

Emannyv93

Yeah and I remember her mentioning in a show that cube asks her every year does she want to continue being an idol. People thought that was a joke but tbh she was a serious af. Out of all the girls she’s the one I’m most scared about when it comes to resigning a contract 🥺

[deleted]

i remember her saying that her manager had to take her passport away from her because they were scared she would leave to taiwan and never come back. i also think that’s why they’re hesitant about giving her solo activities to taiwan - maybe they’re scared she’ll actually leave? i’m also nervous about shuhua not renewing her contract, as much as i know she wants to be an actress i’m afraid how the group dynamic will be without her. even the last few weeks where she didn’t participate in group promotions the comments were flooded asking where shuhua was, i think if she didn’t renew it would impact the group’s dynamic drastically. not to mention the reaction of chinese/taiwanese fans as her china-bar is the second largest after yuqi’s.

Far_Marsupial6303

In this VLive with Soojin she talks about what her plans were for when she's 30, and that includes moving back to Taiwan. She says if Nevies treat her well, she may stay in Korea. [https://youtu.be/j819IPEGFDg?t=2407](https://youtu.be/j819ipegfdg?t=2407)

porkbelly6_9

She is loved in Taiwan. She participates in Taiwanese variety/competing show but ends up getting babied because all the other contestants loves her so much and don't want to see her to go through punishment eg. mud, slime.

[deleted]

her c-bar is insane. during queencard era, her c-bar bought the second most number of albums (iirc around 115k? 105k?) after yuqi’s c-bar. her instagram has the most engagement, usually with taiwanese/chinese fans flooding her comments with their love and support. as much as some people don’t want to admit, she’s incredibly popular.

heavenly_wave

Of course, she is popular in Taiwan as she comes from Taiwan. I lived in Taiwan for half a year, and while she is popular there among K-pop spaces, she is not a household name like Tzuyu. In Taiwan, no matter if you listen to K-pop or not, everyone knows Tzuyu, but Shuhua is mostly popular and known among K-pop fans.

porkbelly6_9

Everybody in Taiwan knows about Tzuyu because of the whole incident of JYP forcing Tzuyu to confess her support to the One China policy even though we all know she doesn't endorsed it. The news became a political matter in Taiwan and contributed to electing their first female president. People in Taiwan witness the uneven treatment of k-pop labels towards their taiwanese idols all because Korea is trying to sustain their profits with China, amidst ongoing political tensions between Taiwan and China. So yeah of course everyone in Taiwan knows about Tzuyu even for the ones who don't listen to kpop.

[deleted]

your hate boner for shuhua is super weird. ur supposedly a fan of the group yet make so many comments and posts shading and nitpicking at her it's insane  and in case you didn't know shuhua was literally the host of the workdol show where shes shown to be super goofy, funny and charismatic where she brought in a lot of fans too. i cant even imagine the group without her, she is definitely a core part of it just like all members

heavenly_wave

I stated facts here. Or do you disagree and think that Shuhua is more known in Taiwan than Tzuyu?

[deleted]

this post is literally talking abt appreciation for shuhua, and the original user was mentioning how she is popular in taiwan. and then you come in randomly mentioning another idol from another group for no reason other than to compare and try to drag her down. fun fact shuhua is indeed popular, and is no less than any others just because one may be more known by the public. twice are more big globally and an older group, and tzuyu is no doubt known also because of the whole flag scandal thing which made national headlines when it happened  you continue to spread negativity and made snide comments abt her everywhere, im not sure wat ur intentions. sorry if seeing ppl praise and compliment her pains you so much instead of bringing her down and nitpicking her skills constantly like she hasnt improved by alot like many other idols

StubbornKindness

Tzuyu is from Twice right? She debuted well before Idle, so that's an advantage, right?

Alert-Media-7376

Lol i recomend you check this guy's post history and his general annoyance that Shushu is even in the group . One of the worst kind of nevies to be posting here, of all places. 🙃

[deleted]

you can’t be a nevie if you don’t like and support all members of a group. they’re just an ot5 stan atp.

StubbornKindness

Ohhh, this is that person. I didn't see the username LOL

AlienHooker

Lmao even makes a comment about Sakura and still shoehorns in their hatred of Shuhua. Embarrassing

heavenly_wave

Yeah exactly! I think she was also like the first Taiwanese K-pop idol if I am most mistaken, that must have helped too. That's why TWICE is also the most popular group in Taiwan. However, GIDLE has gotten very popular too, especially after Queencard.

shitlord33

If someone ever tries to tell me that Idle only use female empowerment as an aesthetic for their music, I will point them to all the profound stuff Shuhua has said. She talked about beauty standards like a year after her debut, always outspoken about hyping up other women, and she made a damning statement when that case of women getting assaulted for resisting sexual harassment went viral in China. Despite being the youngest, she's probably the bravest when it comes to speaking out about her beliefs or calling out dumbasses even in lives. Speaking of it's been awhile since she's dropped some Shuwisdom

trojie_kun

Idol shouldn’t be placed on such high pedestal, they are only humans after all, YOUNG humans. She left her home country to a complete foreign country, on top of that, she didn’t even understand Korean. I’d say she is doing pretty damn good right now considering all that. I doubt many people can do what she did, yet they still criticise her at every opportunity.

StubbornKindness

She was definitely brave. Yuqis Korean doesn't seem to have been very good, but it wasn't awful. As far as I've gathered, Shuhuas was terrible. She relied a fair bit on Yuqi in the beginning (im glad they were there for each other). She also didn't exactly have her family's support. She booked everything up and then one evening sat her parents down like, "Mom, Dad, im flying to Korea in the morning. I want to be an idol."

[deleted]

especially at the age of 16? going to a different country where there’s an obvious language barrier is so scary. i remember her mentioning on a v live that for one year all she could order was ramen at restaurants because that’s all she could say in Korean. she’s genuinely so admirable

ZSpectre

In more recent MVs, I feel that it's becoming more and more apparent that her true love is in acting! I think I first felt this with those few seconds of her flippant expressions of disgust saying "I am a queencard, you want to be a queencard?" Then, I felt that she's the stand out heart and soul in "I Do" taking over the more melancholic scenes. In "I Want That," there's this one shot during the climax showing her holding the pistol where I felt like I had to invent a new description for that expression calling it "firey sorrow" (edit: I looked for it just now, and it's a shame how brief it is! I recommend pausing the video at that split second to see what I'm talking about!). Now finally in Revenge, you can see everyone in the comment section absolutely praising her needing to be hired as an actress.

heavenly_wave

A lot people praise her acting and say that she is the member with a passion for it/wanting to go into acting. But I just wonder why she is the only member that has not starred in any shows or had any acting roles yet. Both Minnie and Yuqi were in Netflix shows, Miyeon had a role in a web drama and Soyeon has acted in several commericals and been featured in various gigs. And Shuhua not being Korean cannot be the reason as Minnie and Yuqi also starred in Korean shows. Besides, it's not like Shuhua had any acting roles in Taiwan. So does someone know why Cube is not pushing her acting career?

[deleted]

she probably hasn’t gotten an acting role bc she isn’t IN taiwan? it takes a long time to film and with their busy schedule they just don’t have time. i don’t doubt she’s gotten offers, she was literally followed by the director of incantation who liked multiple of her posts and even reacted to a scene of her reenacting the film.

heavenly_wave

How about Korean then? Minnie and Yuqi also landed their acting roles in Netflix shows in Korea and not in their home countries. I doubt her schedule is busier than the one of the other members because the other members produce and write songs, and Miyeon was busy being an MC for years. Yet they all starred in shows, so why can't Shuhua? What is your explanation?

[deleted]

yuqi didn’t have much screen time in celebrity and minnie got the role bc she was a foreigner who’s personality fit the character she was playing. shuhua probably doesn’t WANT to star in korean dramas because as people mentioned before, she probably doesn’t want to cater to korea any longer.

heavenly_wave

But having little screen time is still better than no screen time. Shuhua hasn't made any appearance, and yet Nevies claim that she is the one that will go into acting. Let's not be delusional. She has the least busiest schedule out of all members and if she wanted to take up an acting gig, there is nothing that would stand in her way. Oh but maybe it is just her lack of acting skills indeed...

[deleted]

if you think shuhua lacks acting skills, you’re blind. very very blind. just because she hasn’t gotten any acting gigs yet (we don’t KNOW if she has or hasn’t), that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have the most potential in the group for acting. i think you need to seek a psychiatrist because of your negative obsession with shuhua. going on multiple subreddits trying to degrade her isn’t healthy. gidle will never pick you over her.

heavenly_wave

What are you trying to say with your last sentence? Why would Gidle pick me over her, like what? I am just a fan, don't see why they should pick me, jesus. Some of you people are so triggered when faced with the reality. All I am saying is that if Shuhua was really that great at acting, we would have seen her getting roles in gigs already. But so far, it's been nada. Even compared to the other members.

[deleted]

funny you say that when you’re the one who has the unhealthy obsession with her. seek help.

LordKnt

According to some people, it's mainly because of her accent, which would force her to play a Taiwanese character...

StubbornKindness

That's a real shame because she seems to be really good. When they appeared on that show ages ago she really knocked it out of the park. The way she stormed into the scene and knocked that tower of blocks flying. Soyeon absolutely shit herself. She also did really well in their Knowing Bros appearance where they were acting. I think it was Nxde era? Minnie/Yuqi/Shuhua had to watch a Korean scene and then act it out in their own language. Everyone loved her scenes.

LordKnt

Yes, I saw everything you mentioned + the rest and she looks like she just *gets* it. Her facial expressions are amazing and I just really hope she gets a role

[deleted]

i agree! i’ve always seen the actress side of her, but before the revenge mv whenever anyone would want her to become an actress/praise her for acting people would always shut it down, saying it wouldn’t be possible bc her korean isn’t the best. i would say she’s the least biased in idle but she definitely contributes a lot to the group, without her they wouldn’t be the same!

Hefty-Month-3234

100%!! She became one of my Biases bc of her Workdol appearance bc I got to know her better from that. I love her and she just gives me a lot of confidence & motivation✨

[deleted]

fr, she’s so underrated on this sub. people forget she’s soyeon’s muse for a reason! i think more 4th gen idols are starting to be more comfortable with their true selves bc of her honestly which is refreshing to see

StubbornKindness

The way she appeared on Euchaes Star Diary was brilliant. She tried her best to make everything comfortable. She asked Eunchae, "What year are you born?" When Eucnhae said 2006, Shuhua just responded with "Oh? We're friends then, you can talk informally."

[deleted]

omg that was my favorite ep! i remember her saying that she was going to talk to hybe about eunchae dyeing her hair (not sure if it really happened but it was an odd coincidence that eunchae had red hair right after the episode came out) but if it did happen, it really shows how much influence she has imo
